We discuss the Eguchi-Hanson instanton in depth. Initially we describe its relevance to quantum gravity and how it fits into the classification of gravitational instantons. We then construct Green's functions in the instanton background. We apply the ideas discussed to scattering theory and describe some examples. We conclude with some speculations and a discussion of the meaning of more complex members of a family of instantons of which this is the first.
