A Compassion-Driven Approach to Responsibility in Innovation Organizations

Mapping the relationship between innovation, categories of knowledge and institutional context in an organisation

Organisations are social entities formed by individuals with knowledge in an institutional context. Innovation is a social and economic phenomenon (Schumpeter, 1935a) that positively impacts organisations and economic growth. This paper maps the relationship between innovation, categories of knowledge, and institutional context in an organisation. It reviews innovative organisations as opportunity takers in an institutional context and understands innovations as the output of a multidirectional process where articulated and unarticulated knowledge is exchanged by individuals in the organisation. Innovation becomes a decision-making (selection and variation) process based on an individual's knowledge. That process has velocity and direction due to its relationship with the institutional context and the categories of knowledge. The paper concludes by presenting a conceptual model to explain the relationship between the concepts studied. It integrates innovation theories, knowledge economy literature, and sociological perspectives.

An Evolutionary Analysis of Higher-Order Interaction Collaborative Innovation Networks in China’s New Energy Vehicle Industry

As a manifestation of technological innovation achievements, patents reflect the frontier of technological development in the field. The aim of this research is to investigate the spatial evolution of patent collaboration networks and cooperation activities in the Chinese new energy vehicle (NEV) industry. We hypothesize that the higher-order collaboration networks will exhibit the formation of triangle groups centered around core nodes and the emergence of key edges indicating their importance. Key organizations and partners will play a significant role in shaping the future direction of cooperative innovation. The research utilizes data on collaboration patents in the NEV industry in China and constructs higher-order interaction collaboration innovation networks. The spatial evolution of networks and patent cooperation activities are examined using simplex methods. The results indicate that the generalized degree distribution of nodes and edges follows a power-law distribution. Two-dimensional simplex networks gradually form triangle clusters centered on core nodes and key edges. Large companies and research institutes prefer high-depth collaboration, while universities prefer high-breadth collaboration. Furthermore, the development of the new energy vehicle industry has gradually shifted from the eastern region to the central region. In the two-dimensional simplex network, Beijing and Jiangsu play a crucial role as key bridges in fostering stable and deep collaborations. The findings of this study shed light on the spatial evolution of patent collaboration networks and cooperation activities in the Chinese NEV industry. The identification of key organizations and partners, as well as the central positions of certain regions, provides valuable insights for innovation organizations in navigating innovation development and selecting collaboration partners.

Stratejik İnsan Kaynakları Yönetiminin Yenilikçilik Üzerindeki Etkisinde Toplam Kalite Yönetiminin Aracı Rolü

This study aims to analyze the impact of human resources management on the innovativeness of employees and the role of total quality management practices as mediator in this relationship. Innovativeness is an important issue for all organizations as one of the critical success factors in surviving and, achieving and maintaining a competitive advantage. In order to build an innovative organization structure, intellectual capital and therefore human resources management attract a lot of attention in the literature. And choosing the right person, shaping an environment for developing skills and abilities, and promoting innovative efforts with an ideal career management become a serious issue. On the other hand, total quality management stands out as a phenomenon that has the potential to reinforce the effect of human resources management on innovation. These relationships were tested by empirical study. For this purpose, a questionnaire was formed from the scales developed in the literature and field study was applied to employees in an enterprise operating in the aviation sector. As a result of the field study, a data set of 252 people was obtained. Firstly, the construct validity was tested by applying validity and reliability tests. And then the hypotheses were tested through structural equality modeling. As a result of the analyses, we found that strategic human resources management has significant and positive effect on total quality management practices and innovation. Total quality management practices have a significant and positive effect on innovation. The mediating role of total quality management in this relationship has been partially confirmed.

Black Power Education in Melbourne: Koori Kollij in Historical Context

ABSTRACT Koori Kollij was an Aboriginal Community Controlled educational programme in inner city Melbourne that used Black Power praxis to empower Koori students. 284 Koori students graduated as Aboriginal Health Workers with a uniquely holistic understanding of health between 1982 and 1990, they went on to establish scores of innovative health organisations. Activists taught community organisation, communications, the politics of health and Black Studies, and Koori Kollij was at the dynamic heart of the pan-Aboriginal movement for community survival, land rights and self-determination. This article uses the collections of the Aboriginal History Archive and interviews with former teachers and students to highlight the importance of Black Power in the development of the philosophies informing the Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Movement. It contextualises Koori Kollij in its urban time and place, highlights the role of music, and engages theoretical insights regarding sovereignty and resistance to genocide.

Defining the prerequisites for effective innovative activity of Ukrainian organizations in the context of acquiring competence on the European market

The object of research is the innovative activity of organizations. Papers that consider the assessment of the benefits of Ukraine's accession to the European Union (EU) ignore innovation activity in the context of acquiring competence for the integration of organizations into the European space. This predetermined the study to assess the state and prerequisites for effective innovation activity of Ukrainian organizations. An uneven concentration of innovative organizations by types of economic activity has been determined, which is explained by imperfect mechanisms for regulating regional development. The negative dynamics of the science intensity of the gross domestic product (GDP) of Ukraine (by 0.32 %), its lowest level among the EU countries (0.99 %) were noted. This makes it impossible to compete with supplier countries of new technologies and products with a high degree of added value. A reduction in the cost of fundamental research and the number of innovative organizations (by 72.09 %), a decrease in the number of employees engaged in scientific research was identified. The smallest amounts of funding for employee training in accordance with EU requirements have been determined, which reduces the competitiveness of the economy. A distinctive feature of the study is its standpoint of the influence of indicators on the formation of conditions for the acquisition of competence by organizations in the European market. This means the technological renewal of production, intensification of research into the latest areas of science, achievement of intellectual leadership, reorientation of finance to investment in human capital. The results are useful for executives who, on the way to joining the European space, seek to successfully overcome the barriers of the world's largest market owing to organizational competence

INNOVATIVE AND INVESTMENT COMPONENT OF ENTERPRISE DEVELOPMENT MANAGEMENT IN CONDITIONS OF TRANSPARENCY AND CONVERGENCE

In today’s conditions, the rapid pace of technological development and changes in consumer requirements leave enterprises with the requirements of constant innovative activity. Carrying out innovations allows enterprises to maintain competitive advantages, attract new customers, and develop in domestic and foreign markets. The article aims to study the features of the innovation-investment component of enterprise development management in modern conditions of transparency and convergence. It was noted that innovation and investment processes as drivers of enterprise development are complex, multi-stage, and essential for achieving success in dynamic market conditions. It was found that transparency as a component of business policy guarantees that interested parties have access to relevant information about the company’s activities and results, which builds trust and reliability. At the same time, convergence involves the integration of different technologies and approaches, which can lead to synergies and new growth opportunities. By considering these factors in their management approach, businesses can improve decision-making, attract investment, and drive sustainable development. The advantages and risks associated with the enterprise’s organization of innovation and investment processes in conditions of transparency and convergence are determined. An analysis of the organizational conditions for constructing the innovation-investment subsystem of enterprise development management (elements, principles, connection with transparency, and convergence) was carried out. An analysis of the relationship between the elements of the innovation-investment subsystem of enterprise development management in modern conditions has been carried out. The considered perspectives demonstrate the importance and potential of innovation and investment processes at Ukrainian enterprises based on a transparent model of behavior in the modern business environment, in particular, considering the post-war recovery of the economy, which must be taken into account in the context of convergence both regionally and internationally.

Research on the Regional Cooperation Innovation Network of Universities in the Guangdong–Hong Kong–Macao Great Bay Area

As typical innovation organizations, the structure and efficiency of cooperation among universities’ innovation behaviors are important influencing factors for regional innovation sustainable development. In 2019, the Chinese government promulgated the “Outline of the Development Plan of The Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao Great Bay Area”, which directly promotes a sustainable cooperation network of universities in the Great Bay Area. This study used UCINET to visualize the cooperation network of universities in Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao based on the cooperation data generated by 35 universities in the Guangdong–Hong Kong–Macao Great Bay Area, jointly establishing 37 professional alliances that developed 888 cooperation ties from 2017 to 2022. The results show that the current cooperative network density of universities in the Great Bay Area is high (density = 0.746), but the cohesion trend is not significant (network centralization = 26.92%); a clear circle structure has been formed. The network exhibits a narrow shape at both ends and widens in the middle; the higher the hierarchical position of universities in the region, the more likely they are to enter the core cooperation network and establish more cooperation relationships. Universities in the marginal circles find it especially difficult to initiate cooperative relationships due to their disadvantageous position in terms of limited resources and a lack of administrative intervention. The current cooperation situation still has room for expansion.

Training and development is a field related to organizational activities aimed at improving individual and group performance in an organizational environment. As a joint role commonly known as human resource development (HRM), namely developing human resources to remain competitive. Training focuses on taking actions to develop employees for their current jobs and development that prepares employees to take on future roles and responsibilities. It makes the analysis that the goal of training and development is for innovative learning organizations to ensure that employees, through added value, are able to do their job effectively, get results, gain competitive advantage and seek personal growth. Measurable performance due to good training and development will increase organizational growth. This process is called transferring information and knowledge to the employer. This enables employers to put this information and knowledge into practice with the aim of increasing organizational efficiency and growth, and the quality of human resource management should be considered alongside educational policies and systems so important to human capital development.

Novartis Oncology Spain: Agile innovation and the RWE cell

Healthcare and life science companies are transforming their business models from product development toward precision medicine. Vasant Narasimhan was appointed in 2018 as the new CEO of Novartis—a global pharma company. He champions a multi-faceted strategic intent: 1) transform the company from “selling pills” to investing heavily in discovering of new treatments that combine life sciences and digital technologies. In Spain, José Marcilla, the Director General of Novartis Oncology, pioneered an organizational transformation by developing (1) a cell-based innovation organization and process and (2) a new startup accelerator. This case explores both initiatives and their far-reaching consequences. The “Spanish experiment” helped to develop of digital services that reach the patient in a highly regulated environment. This duo of cases—Novartis Oncology Spain: Agile Innovation and The RWE (real wold evidence) Cell—gives students the opportunity to examine the motivations behind the transformation at Novartis, explore the implementation of its strategic intent, and ask what is the appropriate pace for such a dramatic change. The case is taught as a single class for decision-making regarding which cells and startups are suitable to be continued given the innovation horizons. By walking with students through these innovation horizons, the case enables decisions to be made about whether this pioneering Spanish program should be continued or not.

A history of digital environmental journalism at the BBC and the Guardian

Environmental and climate journalism is complex, data-heavy, and amenable to visualisation. The environmental beat was therefore well placed to take advantage of the affordances of emerging digital platforms for news from the late 1990s. This article presents a history of digital environmental journalism at two international and digitally innovative media organisations (the BBC and the Guardian), taking an affordances approach. It argues that the beat can be understood as having four distinct but overlapping phases: an initial phase in which journalists availed of the limitless carrying capacity of digital media; a second phase which maximised the use of blogs and user comments; a third, experimental phase involving digital video and online campaigns; and a fourth, mature phase in which both organisations became more strategic in their digital offerings.

Organizational Training in Startups: The Incubators Perspective in Turbulent Times

The flourishing of younger and innovative organizations (start-ups) has never stopped. To grow, start-ups need capital and access to the market, and are often incubated by business incubators (hubs), which offer several services, both educational and practical, essential to enable the transformation of business ideas into concrete business projects. Disruptive times certainly affect the way start-ups are trained and empowered, mixing in-house and remote learning; nevertheless, incubators still deliver their valuable training to new organizations. This contribution intends to explore this change addressing the incubators (trainers) perspective,and to provide a practical contribution to the management literature on training process shifts across startup. A qualitative case study analysis was used in this research. It involves a combination of both secondary data and semi-structured interviews with the Incubatore SEI – a business hub based in the Campania Region – CEO and founder. This study focuses on distinct skill areas that influence startup empowerment processes: (1) individual knowledge, (2) organizational knowledge, (3) observable skills, (4) problem-solving skills, (5) attitudes and beliefs. This study emphasizes the need of change inventive training procedures amid crises, as well as the relevance of highly innovative hubs in delivering their training to startup. Furthermore, research reveals intriguing insights for the growth of incubators as well as intriguing perspectives for the future of the startup ecosystem through continuous empowerment.

Innovation as a catalyst for Moonj artisans: a case of Rekhaakriti

Learning outcomes The readers will gain practical insights on the key attributes of a women entrepreneur, the role of innovative product design and usage, the core challenges and opportunities and the strategies to overcome entrepreneurial hurdles in the Moonj handicraft business. Case overview/synopsis The case is about “Rekhaakriti”, a handicraft artisan-oriented firm, which deals in the business of selling handicrafts items like traditional wooden toys, Moonj baskets, rice bowls and vermilion boxes, in both business-to-business (B2B) and business-to-consumer (B2C) markets. Incorporated as a non-governmental organization (NGO) in the year 2014, “Rekhaakriti” was founded with the purpose of preserving, promoting and advancing the Moonj handicraft. Throughout its formative years, the organization experienced several organizational and operational challenges and got almost on the edge of collapse. The dilemma that surrounded Rekha Sinha, a key founding member of “Rekhaakriti”, was whether to carry or dissolve the organization. But, after much contemplation, she decided to convert the organization to a sole proprietorship firm in the year 2017. However, the restructuring decision was also proving to become less effective in attaining the objectives for which the firm got established. This led the owner, Rekha Sinha, to further dug deep to identify obstacles (both internal and external) that impede her firm’s expansion and growth. This case narrates Rekha Sinha's intricate entrepreneurial path in building an innovative handicraft organization and explains how she overcame the overall organizational and operational obstacles. The case provides the context for students to assume the role of protagonist and explore creative strategies for overcoming market obstacles through upskilling, design intervention and product innovation. The Impact of Industry 4.0 on Innovative Organisations, A Thematic Review using the PRISMA Statement 2020

The fast growth of technologies during the Industry 4.0 era resulted in new or evolved organisations forming. Throughout the Fourth Industrial Revolution, the interaction between technology and humans evolved. Furthermore, the skills and capacities of individuals and organisations are changing due to the abundance of technology. This study investigated the impact of industry 4.0 on innovative organisations and used thematic analysis to identify the major themes. VOS viewer content analysis and critical terms of occurrences analysis were used to identify the major themes. In addition, the PRISMA statement 2020 is applied for the methodological part. The results indicate three significant themes business models, innovative organisations, and digital transformation. The findings show that changes in the global economy and market needs are forcing businesses to adopt technical breakthroughs made possible by digital transformation. it is considered that adequate resources, experienced and capable workers, and well-organized, adequately adaptable, and creative procedures are required for innovative organisations. In addition, HRM practises in the digital era must incorporate teleworking, promote employee engagement in achieving the aim of digital transformation, and incentivise a proper leadership style. Also, technological advancement drives businesses to innovate in their everyday production, supply, value chains, and numerous operations, allowing them to adapt quickly to client requests.
 

The effects of knowledge sharing on innovative behaviours of academicians; mediating effect of innovative organization culture and quality of work life

PurposeCurrent article aims to investigate the positive link between knowledge sharing (KS), innovative culture (IC), quality of work life (QWL) and innovative behaviours (IB) at higher education institutions in Iraq's Kurdistan Region.Design/methodology/approachThe study's data was gathered from academic staff at various universities in Iraq's Kurdistan Region. A total of 212 data were collected via survey questionnaire and analysed using structural equation modelling.FindingsIt was discovered that KS has direct and significant positive effects on IC, QWL and IB; IC had direct positive effects on IB; QWL had no considerable influence on IB and IC had a significant mediation and moderation roles between KS and IB. As a result, it is advised that universities in the region are strongly support IC to increase IB among academicians.Research limitations/implicationsFirstly, the data has been collected during the crises time that the lecturers were not receiving regular salary. This might change their quality work life perception. Secondly, data has been collected only from Sulaymaniyah city; other parts of the Iraq could have different perceptions. Lastly, sample size might be another limitation of the study.Practical implicationsIt is recommended that universities in the region should strongly support IC to increase IB among academicians, in terms of providing flexible working schedule and conditions, fair opportunities for promotion, and share decision making responsibilities.Social implicationsKS and IC has significant impacts on IB among the academicians. Accordingly, university administrative should improve policies increase KS behaviours and provide IC that academicians feel more comfortable culture to be innovative. Therefore, current paper recommends, tolerance to failure, openness to new ideas and participation to the decisions to improve IB among the academicians.Originality/valueThe paper is important that investigate KS and IC at the higher education institutions in Kurdistan region. Further, QWL perception has been investigated respectively. However, it has been observed that lecturers do not have quality of life perception at the investigated period of time.

Happiness at workplace on innovative work behaviour and organisation citizenship behaviour through moderating effect of innovative behaviour

The current study primarily aims to investigate the happiness at workplace (HAW)-innovative work behaviour (IWB) correlation through the mediating effect of organisation citizenship behaviour (OCB) and moderating effect of organisational innovative culture (OIC). Notably, 383 questionnaires were collected from lecturers employed in three local universities in Malaysia and subsequently evaluated using structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM). Based on the study outcomes, HAW positively and significantly affected employees' IWB through the mediating and moderating effects of OCB and OIC, respectively. University directors should establish effective HAW approaches that elevate workers' organisational satisfaction, involvement, and commitment and develop a creative culture that acknowledges and complements innovation. This study, which pioneered the examination of the moderating effect of OIC, (i) filled the literature gap on the HAW-IWB link in emerging nations and (ii) expanded the ‘broaden and build’ and ‘social exchange’ theories with concrete proof of the HAW impact on OCB.

Exploring Factors Influencing the HQDMI in the Yellow River Basin: A Grounded Theory Approach

The research on high-quality development of the manufacturing industry (HQDMI) in the Yellow River Basin is in the exploratory stage, and little literature has systematically analyzed its influencing factors. Based on the grounded theory, this paper makes an exploratory analysis of the influencing factors of the HQDMI in the Yellow River Basin. This study finds that the influencing factors of the HQDMI mainly include six aspects: innovation capability, organization construction, industry resources, institutional environment, industry collaboration, and market demand. By using the HQDMI’s endogenous and exogenous factors as the core, the realization mode of the HQDMI in the Yellow River basin is put forward, and the influencing factors and action model of the HQDMI in the Yellow River Basin are constructed. The findings have significant reference value for promoting the HQDMI in the Yellow River Basin and are helpful for improving the HQDMI research.
