Neo-Industrial Economy and Institutional Mechanisms for Ensuring Its Sustainable Development in the Context of the Fourth Industrial Revolution

Sustainable innovative development of the neo-industrial economy affects the level of well-being of the society. This makes it possible to balance the accumulation of assets, support the education and healthcare systems, and pursue an effective environmental policy. The Fourth Industrial Revolution can significantly change the structure of the economy, increasing the role of service industries, information, data processing and transmission, which are equated with strategic resources. End-to-end technologies have begun to have a significant impact on the development of industrial technologies, increasing the efficiency of production processes and coordinating the activities of space-separated companies through global networks. In the production sector, there is a constant increase in labor productivity. Non-industrial technologies are becoming the dominant factor in the sustainable innovative development of the economy in accordance with the previously existing market principles and rules. The complexity of the sustainable development of the neo-industrial economy in terms of digital transformation presupposes the active use of institutional mechanisms.

Empowering BRICS economies: The crucial role of green finance, information and communication technology and innovation in sustainable development

AbstractThis study delves into the crucial role of green finance, information and communication technology (ICT), technological innovation, and renewable energy in the Brazil, Russia, India, and China (BRICS) countries from 2000 to 2021. The findings highlight the importance of green finance in reducing the ecological footprint and promoting eco‐friendly initiatives, sustainable practices, environmental technology innovation, and heightened environmental awareness. This means 1% increase in green related finance has reduced ecological footprint by 0.72% in BRICS economies. Additionally, technological innovation and the consumption of renewable energy play a significant role in enhancing environmental sustainability. Conversely, the study reveals that ICT has a considerable impact on the ecological footprint, but the interaction effect with green finance helps to mitigate its negative effects and improve the environmental quality. Meanwhile, non‐renewable energy, gross domestic product (GDP) per capita, and urbanization have an adverse effect on the environment. To strengthen green finance in BRICS countries, governments can establish comprehensive policy frameworks that prioritize sustainability and create a conducive climate for incentivizing investment in environmentally friendly endeavors.

Uplifting local ecological knowledge as part of adaptation pathways to wildfire risk reduction: A case study in Montseny, Catalonia (Spain).

Living with wildfires in an era of climate change requires adaptation and weaving together many forms of knowledge. Empirical evidence of knowledge co-production in wildfire management is lacking in Mediterranean European areas. We explored how local ecological knowledge can be leveraged to reduce wildfire risk through an adaptation pathways process in the Montseny massif and wider Tordera River watershed of Catalonia, Spain: an area stewarded through forestry and agriculture, tourism, nature conservation, and fire management. We combined different methods (e.g., a timeline and Three Horizons framework) throughout three workshops with agents of change to co-create adaptation pathways to reduce wildfire risk, integrating a historical perspective of the landscape while envisioning desirable futures. Our results showed that local ecological knowledge and other soft adaptation strategies contribute to innovative sustainable development initiatives that can also mitigate wildfire risk. The adaptation pathways approach holds much potential to inform local policies and support wildfire-based community initiatives in diverse contexts.

A systematic literature review on social innovation for sustainable development in China

How does green finance promote renewable energy technology innovation? A quasi-natural experiment perspective

The importance of green finance policies, particularly in the realm of innovation in renewable energy technologies, should not be overlooked while assessing the advancement of renewable energy development in China. The objective of this study is to investigate the impact of green finance reform initiatives on the promotion of renewable energy technology innovation (RETI) within cities of China. To accomplish this objective, this study employs the 2017 Green Finance Reform and Innovation Pilot Zones (GFRIPZ) policy as a quasi-natural experiment. A difference-in-differences (DID) model is employed to construct the study framework. The research findings highlight that the implementation of pilot zones has resulted in a substantial and favorable influence on RETI. Moreover, the observable effectiveness of this phenomenon in fostering RETI is predominantly observed in the eastern region of China, small-scale cities, and locations characterized by stringent environmental restrictions. Additionally, our findings demonstrate that this particular policy has an indirect impact on promoting RETI. This is achieved through the improvement of the allocation of financial resources dedicated to green initiatives. These insights offer valuable guidance for policymakers aiming to promote sustainable energy innovation and green development.

THE ROLE OF COMMUNICATION AND CREATIVITY IN THE IMPLEMENTATION OF SUSTAINABILITY AND SUSTAINABLE INNOVATIONS

Sustainable development becomes a strategic goal of modern business organizations and an aspiration to ensure long-term economic growth through the creation of innovative products and services, saving resources and their sustainable use, nurturing the environment, and contributing to the creation of public welfare. It should be noted that communication and creativity constitutes a significant part of the innovation generation and implementation process. Promotion of idea generation, the interpretation of the need for innovation, the provision of opportunities for expressing new ideas, the development of relationships both within the team itself and with stakeholders are important in each phase of communication. The article presents the research, the purpose of which is to determine how creative communication solutions condition the involvement of the organization’s stakeholders, developing sustainability and creating sustainable innovations in Lithuanian business organizations. The applied research method is qualitative content analysis of the web pages of the largest Lithuanian business organizations, seeking to collect data on the essential organization of sustainable innovation development activities, challenges and features of stakeholder involvement. The data required for the research was collected by reviewing the publicly available information of 100 websites of Lithuanian business organizations in order to determine the essential communicated sustainability topics. Documents related to sustainable activities of organizations were also investigated (sustainability performance reports, corporate social responsibility reports, etc.). The results of the study show that Lithuanian business organizations consider the development of a sustainable activity strategy an important priority in the near term. However, although they understand the need for sustainable activities, developing sustainable innovations by involving stakeholders in these activities is difficult due to the lack of such practices and various organizational factors.

Transformative social marketing and social innovation for sustainable development through participatory design with economically marginalized users

Purpose The study is positioned at the crossroads of transformative social marketing and social innovation literature through the lens of participatory design (PD). This exploratory study aims to explore how social enterprises in India engage economically marginalized people in transformative social marketing and innovation for sustainable development through PD. Design/methodology/approach The study includes a case study with a matched pairs analysis approach. The data analysis reports three themes depicting the role of PD in different stages of the social innovation process (codiscovery, codesign and scaling-up), the challenges faced in the process and the outcomes of the PD process. Findings The authors propose that social enterprises can act as sustainable development catalysts for more inclusive sustainable development through their proactive and creative uses of PD. Still, PD also has limitations for addressing the challenges stemming from marginalized contexts, which requires effective social marketing strategies to overcome. Originality/value The study contributes to the emerging dialogue on PD with marginalized users and widens the scope of studies on transformative social marketing and innovation. The findings also provide practical insights for PD practitioners on how designers can learn from diverse PD practices in the context of economically marginalized people.

DIRECTIONS FOR IMPROVING THE TRAINING OF SPECIALISTS IN THE CONTEXT OF THE NEED TO PROVIDE REQUESTS FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE FINANCIAL SECTOR AND THE CHALLENGES OF FORMATION "INDUSTRY 5.0"

The article substantiates the need to transform educational trajectories in the training of accounting and finance specialists, which is due to changes in the functioning of the financial sector and the expansion of the professional sphere and opportunities in the modern business environment. It has been proven that the challenges of "Industry 5.0" determine the need to adapt both the system of financial support and accounting support for sustainable innovative development, and the process of training specialists in the field of accounting and finance in accordance with the requirements of the labor market. It is noted that the objective is the need to implement an interdisciplinary approach in order to form integrated thinking and competencies of accounting and financial specialists who are able to form, audit and interpret the indicators of integrated reporting for making balanced management decisions.

Supporting a systems approach to scaling for all; insights from using the Scaling Scan tool

CONTEXTApproaches to scaling are persistently linear and focus on a single innovation, an innovator to control the scaling process, and a purpose driven by donor accountability. Alternative approaches that better reflect the complexity involved in sustainable development draw on systems thinking theory, but are hardly used. The Scaling Scan tool facilitates the integration of a systems approach to scaling to a broad public. OBJECTIVEThis study draws from almost six years of experience using and adapting the Scaling Scan tool to deepen the theoretical and empirical understanding of what a systems approach to scaling is and what challenges project teams and organizations face to embrace this. METHODSThis study uses data retrieved between 2017 and 2023 from 54 workshops where the Scaling Scan was used to scale innovations for sustainable development. Data were complemented with a literature study and SWOT analysis to understand the use, users, and user adaptations of the Scaling Scan tool. RESULTS AND DISCUSSIONThe Scaling Scans' focus on context, unintended consequences and the facilitation of collective understanding and collective action are important components of a systems approach to scaling. Multiple adaptations to the tools have been made by users to facilitate even more collective understanding. However, the early focus on “the” innovation to scale and the intrinsic assumption that this innovation addresses a key root cause or leverage point in the system risks to perpetuate a linear approach to scaling. The scoring of the scaling ingredients show a tendency to focus on familiar disciplines (mostly technical), limiting progression beyond a “bigger pilot” and engage with what or who is required for innovations to contribute to large scale change, such as market and public support. Transitioning from a linear to a systems approach to scaling is challenging because business models of research organizations depend on high adoption of “their” innovations. We find that, there are far-reaching implications of embracing a systems approach to scaling which not everyone may want or can accept. SIGNIFICANCEWe can no longer assume that complex systemic problems such as hunger and poverty will be solved by having more of an innovation. Yet this is still the dominant approach for research for development organizations to contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals. The experience with the Scaling Scan contributes to a deeper understanding of the role of tools to facilitate the integration of systems thinking in innovation and scaling initiatives aimed at sustainable development.

Harmonization of Higher Education for Sustainable Development: Southern Africa Development Community Experiences

The world-over, higher education remains a key determinant for scientific and technological development. Hence, Southern Africa Development Community (SADC)’s higher education institutions are considered crucial social organizations in spreading knowledge, and innovation for sustainable development. This study called for inclusion of the qualitative content analysis in an attempt to explore higher education collaboration or partnerships within SADC. Using the AJOL, Scopus, DHTE, DOAJ, Web of Science, and Google Scholar, 60 articles were purposively selected for this review. These available literature sources are accessible on issues around higher education harmonization for sustainable development in SADC for scrutiny. From the content analysis, harmonization was conceptualized as the collaboration, integration or partnership within regional higher education institutions. The rationale for these collaborations or partnerships was to enhance adherence to the agreed-upon higher education conditions and instruments. These created the framework of standards, to facilitate credit transfer and evaluation within SADC’s higher education institutions. From this content analysis, it can be concluded that the harmonization of higher education systems for sustainable development is seen as a spontaneous process subtle to various intricacies, as it permits individual institutions to enjoy the fruits of regional integration. It is in this context, that the researchers recommend the enunciation of SADC’s higher education harmonization for sustainable development guiding procedures vis-a-vis internationalisation. Therefore, this discussion adds voice to the existing argument on the need for higher education institutions in SADC member states to move towards an integrated higher education system. The main role in the creation and develop-ment of lateral clusters should belong to the formation and development of unions of uni-versities and industrial organizations for the development and creation of new and im-provement of existing products. The lateral cluster of higher education is an integration mechanism that ensures the intensive de-velopment and social partnership of its con-stituent organizations and universities, as well as the competitiveness of the country as a whole, the development of industries and the strengthening of ties between organizations and the state. The priority vector for further improvement of cluster policy is the development and formalization of strategies for the development of lateral clusters and their effectiveness. A methodology for determining the effective sustainable innovative development of the cluster economy and the country is proposed.

Social Innovation for Sustainable Development

This study assesses the overall effects of the Menanti Laburan Tourism Park Programme from 2019 to 2023, with a particular focus on its financial, social, and environmental aspects. The study examines the program's contributions through the use of result mapping, financial assessments, and stakeholder analysis. An in-depth analysis is conducted on financial trends, sources of revenue, and the Social Return on Investment (SROI). The program's outreach is assessed by identifying stakeholder groups and evaluating their respective impacts. The Social Return on Investment (SROI) consistently rises from 1.06 to 4.01, indicating significant returns generated by the programme. Eighteen stakeholders, comprising local communities, companies, and governmental organisations, encounter diverse effects. The Padang Panjang Village Community is the main recipient, with a significant impact of 30.29%. A variety of revenue streams, such as ticket sales and partnerships, support the park's economic viability. The achieved Social Return on Investment (SROI), which is 4.01 and exceeds the intended objective, demonstrates the effectiveness.The Menanti Laburan Tourism Park demonstrates both financial viability and operates as an educational centre. The triple-loop learning paradigm emphasises its dedication to flexibility and long-term viability. This study offers a comprehensive comprehension of the program's triumph, providing significant discernments for community advancement and sustainable tourism methodologies.

SUSTAINABLE MARKETING INNOVATION AS MANIFESTATION OF SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY IN BUSINESS

The article is devoted to the current topic of development and implementation of sustainable marketing innovations based on the concept of socially responsible marketing to ensure business competitiveness. The work provides definitions of «marketing innovation» by various authors (P. Drucker, S. Jobs, J. Notter, L. Duncan, V. Govindarajan, M. Porter), highlighting the diverse nature of innovation, covering everything from the introduction of new products and services to cultural and organizational change. Marketing innovation has been proven to play a key role in driving sustainable business development by shaping consumer behavior, improving brand reputation, promoting stakeholder engagement, and creating a positive impact on the environment and society. During the innovation process, it is important to consider the concept of VUCA (Variability, Uncertainty, Complexity and Ambiguity). It is stated that sustainable marketing innovations go beyond traditional marketing practices, integrating environmental and social responsibility into the core of business strategies.

Targeting in management of sustainable innovative development for industrial enterprises

The problem of reindustrialisation of the country and its transition to the sixth technological mode is of particular relevance for the Russian economy at present. At the same time, for the effective management of reindustrialisation, it is necessary, first of all, to develop a system of target setting for sustainable innovative development of industrial enterprises and production sectors. The aim of the paper is to consider and use a new methodological approach to the formation of such a system of target indicators. It is shown that there is no direct possibility of using for this purpose the theory of endogenous economic growth, the theory of long waves and the concept of technological patterns, the theory of sustainable development of economic systems. The paper presents ways and means of solving three problems arising in the process of effective management of sustainable innovation development of industrial production at the level of industries and enterprises: taking into account the impact on the activation of innovation activity of incoming open “tangible” innovations (patents, licences, software products) and closed innovations in the form of R&D costs; identifying the predominant impact on the resource efficiency of enterprises and industries of certain types of technological innovation-process and product innovations; determining for each type of technological innovation (process and product innovations); determining the impact of the innovation activity of incoming enterprises and industries on the resource efficiency of enterprises and industries.

УПРАВЛІННЯ СТАЛИМ ІННОВАЦІЙНИМ РОЗВИТКОМ У СФЕРІ НАДРОКОРИСТУВАННЯ

The article explores the main theoretical aspects of managing sustainable innovative development in the field of waste use. The role of the sphere of drug abuse in national security and in the economic potential of the country has been determined. Features of state regulation in this area were considered. The need is justified and the main directions for improving management in the field of waste use are defined. The essence of the concept of “nadrum” has been studied and the main users of nadrum in Ukraine have been identified. The essence of the concept of “overuse” and the specificity of its application was studied. The main stakeholders in the field of drug abuse have been identified and the need for coordination of their interests has been determined in order to build effective management mechanisms in this area. The essence of development is considered and key aspects that have an impact on the economy are identified, such as: extraction of natural resources; environmental protection; green economy; innovation and technology; investment; international cooperation; use of European standards; transparency and public participation and others. The place of innovation in the development of the sphere of drug abuse has been determined. The essence of sustainable development and its specifics in the field of drug abuse were considered. It is determined that innovation is the basis of sustainable development in the field of drug abuse. Innovations in the field of waste use allow to optimize the use of inks, reducing the costs of their research and development. Features of the sphere of misuse as an object of management were considered. It was noted that in order to be effective, management of sustainable innovative development in the field of waste use must be a systemic and holistic process. The specifics of management of sustainable innovative development in the field of drug use are identified and the main stages of implementation of this process are considered. It is justified the need to introduce the principles of sustainable innovative development in the sphere of non-exploitation to improve the effectiveness of its functioning.

PREREQUISITES AND KEY MEASURES FOR THE IMPLEMENTATION OF SUSTAINABLE ENERGY INNOVATIONS IN CHINA

The article is devoted to the study of prerequisites, directions and measures to ensure China's energy transition. The purpose of the article is to study China's experience in ensuring the energy transition and identify key directions and policy initiatives for the implementation and development of sustainable energy innovations. It has been established that China is the world's largest energy consumer and in recent years has been characterized by continuous economic growth and acceleration of industrialization, development of the energy industry. The energy structure was analyzed and the dominance of coal production and consumption was determined – the first place in the world. The activity of green energy development has been revealed, but the share of clean energy sources in total energy consumption is still low. It was determined that the implementation of the principle of sustainable development and energy innovation is a priority for the further development of the Chinese economy. The key directions for ensuring the energy transition have been identified: diversified energy supply; green and low-carbon development; technological transformation and development. The dynamics of China's energy imports from 2013 to 2022 are analyzed. It was established that China ranked 17th in the Energy Transition Index in 2023, and for the first time entered the TOP-20 countries according to this ranking, which indicates the growing potential of China's energy transition. It analyzed the reasons for reducing energy consumption by 10,000 yuan of GDP from 2013 to 2022. In particular, it is notable that individual companies have reduced energy consumption and environmental pollution, promoting energy conservation, emission reduction and circular economy. It found that, along with the problem of high industrial emissions, China has become a leader in the adoption of clean energy technologies with investments in clean energy technologies exceeding US$650 billion per year. Key political initiatives contributing to the reduction of carbon dioxide emissions and the introduction of energy innovations are analyzed.

Development of eco-marketing in the conditions of sustainable innovative development of organic agricultural production in Ukraine under the influence of the permaculture concept

By embracing a holistic approach to agriculture and land use and influencing environmental marketing practices, permaculture has been found to provide a more comprehensive and interconnected understanding of sustainable development. It is noted that ecological practices, which are the basis of organic food production, create an attractive climate for investment, taking into account the annual growth of global demand for organic products. The ways of eco-marketing development in the conditions of sustainable innovative development of organic agricultural production of Ukraine, which are considered a priority for the further development of the agro-industrial complex, under the influence of the concept of permaculture for the promotion of organic production products created by environmentally friendly means and technologies at all stages of the life cycle, have been determined. Innovative approaches for the sustainable development of modern organic agricultural production with the possibility of using permaculture design are analyzed. Also, to support the sustainable development of organic export-oriented production in Ukraine, manufacturers are actively introducing leading Ukrainian startups into their activities. It is noted that organic certification should contribute to the development of internal and external organic markets, taking into account the best practices of international experience. It has been studied how the vision of modern eco-marketing affects the promotion of products of organic productions that have organic certification in Ukraine. It is shown how the ranking of organic brands is formed by marketing experts in several stages and companies are evaluated according to the volume of production and sales in the domestic market, as well as according to the presence of brands in retail chains. A description of the TOP-10 organic brands of Ukraine in 2023 is given. A SWOT analysis and an analysis of driving forces for the development of eco-marketing in the conditions of sustainable innovative development of organic agricultural production under the influence of the concept of permaculture were carried out. The main directions of the development of eco-marketing in the conditions of sustainable innovative development of organic agricultural production of Ukraine are determined. The research is aligned with and contributes to global sustainable development goals, including those related to responsible consumption and production, climate action and global partnerships, emphasizing the interconnectedness of environmental and social aspects of organic agriculture.

РАСЧЕТНО-АНАЛИТИЧЕСКИЕ МЕТОДЫ ОЦЕНКИ ЭКОНОМИЧЕСКОЙ ЭФФЕКТИВНОСТИ ИННОВАЦИОННОЙ ДЕЯТЕЛЬНОСТИ В КОНТЕКСТЕ ТРИАДЫ «ОБРАЗОВАНИЕ – НАУКА – ПРОИЗВОДСТВО»

The article is devoted to the research, critical rethinking and comparative characterization of the socio-economic advantages and disadvantages of calculation and analytical methods for assessing the effectiveness of innovation activities in the context of the triad “education – science – production”. The article examines the scientific, theoretical and practical-applied attributes of the “Market to Book ratio” method; algorithm for assessing goodwill using the criterion of business activity of companies; functional cost analysis; parametric assessments of technologically correlated projects (“Scorecard Methods”; methods of “Scandia Business Navigator” and company business browsers, etc.). In the process of the study, conclusions were drawn about the conceptual inconsistency and inconsistency of the proposed solutions, and the author’s calculation and analytical tools for assessing the effectiveness of innovative activities of enterprises were proposed, containing coefficients of socio-economic significance and efficiency that reproduce the priorities of sustainable innovative development.
