Rate equations for normal moments describing k-photon absorption are introduced and their solutions for strong coherent and chaotic input radiation are found in the form of power series with respect to the initial mean photon number; the terms which are of lower power in the initial mean photon number are neglected. These solutions enable us to describe the evolution of photon statistics up to the quasi-steady state of k-photon absorption. Particularly, the behaviour of the field in the steady state of k-photon absorption is treated. Some aspects of light fluctuation filtering and generation of sub-poissonian radiation in multiphoton absorption processes are discussed.
