Personnel Detection in Dark Aquatic Environments Based on Infrared Thermal Imaging Technology and an Improved YOLOv5s Model.

This study presents a novel method for the nighttime detection of waterborne individuals using an enhanced YOLOv5s algorithm tailored for infrared thermal imaging. To address the unique challenges of nighttime water rescue operations, we have constructed a specialized dataset comprising 5736 thermal images collected from diverse aquatic environments. This dataset was further expanded through synthetic image generation using CycleGAN and a newly developed color gamut transformation technique, which significantly improves the data variance and model training effectiveness. Furthermore, we integrated the Convolutional Block Attention Module (CBAM) at the end of the last encoder's feedforward network. This integration maximizes the utilization of channel and spatial information to capture more intricate details in the feature maps. To decrease the computational demands of the network while maintaining model accuracy, Ghost convolution was employed, thereby boosting the inference speed as much as possible. Additionally, we applied hyperparameter evolution to refine the training parameters. The improved algorithm achieved an average detection accuracy of 85.49% on our proprietary dataset, significantly outperforming its predecessor, with a prediction speed of 23.51 FPS. The experimental outcomes demonstrate the proposed solution's high recognition capabilities and robustness, fulfilling the demands of intelligent lifesaving missions.

Clinical Retrospective Analysis of Cold and Heat Diagnosis of Traditional Chinese Medicine by Application of Infrared Thermal Imaging Technology

Objective: Exploring the application of infrared thermal imaging technology in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) diagnosis of cold and heat by comparing the cold and heat of TCM clinical dialectics with the cold and heat objectively measured by infrared thermal imaging technology. Methods: First, there were 77 patients from the Prevention and Treatment Center of Guangdong Hospital of TCM selected to analyze their clinical information retrospectively. Then, transforming the temperature index measured by infrared thermal imaging technology into the cold and heat deviation index, which can reflect the cold and heat of traditional Chinese medicine. Finally, a Correlation analysis was made between patients' cold and heat deviation index, and clinical symptoms, the type of cold and heat syndrome diagnosed by doctors. Results: The cold and heat deviation index of the outer, upper outer, and lower outer parts of the patients was significantly lower than that of the inner, upper inner, and lower inner parts of the patients and the difference in the mean values of the three groups was 0.06, 0.07 and 0.03, respectively. In all parts of the subjects, the coincidence rate of clinical dialectics of cold and cold and heat deviation index less than 0 (belonging to cold) was 70.17%. In patients with fatigue symptoms, the cold and heat deviation index of the lower inner part, the upper inner part, and the inner part was significantly higher than that of the lower outer part, the upper outer part, and the outer part. Conclusions: The pattern of human torso region division combined with the cold and heat deviation index can be used to reflect the quantitative understanding of cold and heat in the TCM clinic. Quantifying the variation of cold and heat according to the trend of torso regional temperature deviation can explain the pathogenesis of some elementary symptoms closely related to cold and heat. As a quantitative index of TCM cold and heat, the offset index can be proof for visualization, objectification, and quantification, combined with doctors' judgment, which can an effective auxiliary diagnostic means of TCM to a certain extent.

Infrared Thermal Imaging of Patients With Acute Upper Respiratory Tract Infection: Mixed Methods Analysis.

BackgroundUpper respiratory tract infection is a common disease of the respiratory system. Its incidence is very high, and it can even cause pandemics. Infrared thermal imaging (IRTI) can provide an objective and quantifiable reference for the visual diagnosis of people with acute respiratory tract infection, and it can function as an effective indicator of clinical diagnosis.ObjectiveThe aims of this study are to observe and analyze the infrared expression location and characteristics of patients with acute upper respiratory tract infection through IRTI technology and to clearly express the quantification of temperature, analyze the role of IRTI in acute upper respiratory tract diagnostic research, and understand the impact of IRTI in qualitative and quantitative research.MethodsFrom December 2018 to February 2019, 154 patients with acute upper respiratory tract infection were randomly selected from the emergency department of the First Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou Medical University. Among these patients, 73 were men and 81 were women. The subjects were divided into two groups according to the presence of fever, namely, fever and nonfever groups. Qualitative and quantitative analyses of the infrared thermal images were performed to compare the results before and after application of the technology.ResultsUsing the method described in this paper, through the analysis of experimental data, we elucidated the role of IRTI in the diagnosis of acute upper respiratory tract infection, and we found that qualitative and quantitative IRTI analyses play important roles. Through the combination of theory and experimental data, the IRTI analysis showed good results in identifying acute upper respiratory tract infection.ConclusionsIRTI technology plays an important role in identifying the infrared expression location and characteristics of patients with acute upper respiratory tract infection as well as in the quantification of clear expression of body temperature, and it provides an objective and quantifiable reference basis for elucidating the pathogenesis of these patients.

Preliminary Study on Application of Infrared Thermal Imaging Technology in Combustion Control of Coal-fired Boilers

The principle of infrared thermal imaging is briefly described. According to the actual situation of the boiler and the investment cost, the location and quantity of the infrared cameras are analyzed, it is reasonable to set up an infrared camera on both sides of the end of the boiler grate for combustion monitoring. In addition, the thermal image of coal combustion in the boiler furnace monitored by the infrared cameras are analyzed and researched. It is concluded that the infrared thermal imaging technology can be applied to the combustion monitoring of coal-fired boilers, which is beneficial to saving coal, energy saving and environmental protection.

A Defect Detection Method for the Surface of Metal Materials Based on an Adaptive Ultrasound Pulse Excitation Device and Infrared Thermal Imaging Technology

Ultrasonic excitation has been widely used in the detection of microcracks on metal surfaces, but there are problems such as poor excitation effect of ultrasonic pulse, long time to reach the best excitation, and difficult to find microcracks. In this paper, an adaptive ultrasonic pulse excitation device and infrared thermal imaging technology have been combined, as well as their control method, to solve the problem. The adaptive ultrasonic pulse excitation device adds intelligent modules to realize automatic adjustment of detection parameters, which can quickly obtain reliable excitation; the multidegree-of-freedom base realizes the three-dimensional direction change of the ultrasonic gun to adapt to different excitation occasions. When the appropriate ultrasonic excitation makes microcracks in the resonance state, the microcracks can be frictionated, which produce heat rise with the temperature. Then, the microcrack defect can be detected by the infrared thermal instrument through the different surface temperatures with imaging recognition method. Our detection experiments of the titanium alloy plates and the aluminum alloy profiles of marine engineering show that the method can get reliable detection parameters in a short time and measure the crack length effectively. It can be used in many aspects such as crack detection in mechanical structures or complex equipment operating conditions and industrial production processes.

Investigation and Research on Building Diseases in Yueliangdi Village, Yinggebao Township, Mulei Based on GIS and Infrared Thermal Imaging Technology

In this paper, the representative buildings built in different periods of the village are observed and their types and conditions are recorded according to the phenomenon that the defects and diseases of the local historical settlements are increasingly serious due to blind transformation and excessive commerce in the protection work of moon village in Mulei County, Xinjiang. Then, the main building diseases of moon village are studied based on the theory of architectural pathology and GIS platform The coupling relationship with local microclimate, and the degree of disease of the village houses are classified into three categories: light, medium and severe diseases. Based on the analysis of the change of macro climate and local microclimate conditions in the South and north of the East Tianshan Mountains, it is concluded that the main reason for the defect is the damp disease. The infrared thermal imaging technology is introduced to analyze the damp disease in the settlement, and the preliminary judgment method of the damp disease is obtained, which should be paid attention to in the future protection work.

Evaluation of infrared thermography combined with drug-loaded superparamagnetic nanoparticles for the diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer

Breast cancer (BC) is a common malignant tumor that threatens both the physical and mental health of women worldwide, the incidence of BC is increasing each year. Early detection and prompt diagnosis are key for prevention of BC and will promote reductions in morbidity and mortality. As such, we present here an integrated diagnostic and treatment strategy for BC that is based on infrared thermal imaging (IRTI) combined with superparamagnetic iron tetroxide (Fe3O4) nanoparticles. In this work, a doxorubicin (DOX) anticancer drug platform was generated using polyethylene-coated paramagnetic nano-iron tetroxide particles, and IRTI technology was used to implement an integrated approach to diagnosis and treatment. The therapeutic efficacy of the DOX anticancer drug system utilizing nano-iron tetroxide superparamagnetic particles was examined. DOX anticancer drug composite nanomaterials based on superparamagnetic Fe3O4 nanoparticles (PEG-Fe3O4@DOX). The size distribution of NPs was 14.5 ± 0.53 nm, and the drug encapsulation rate (80.1%) and drug loading rate (35.3%) were higher PEG-Fe3O4@DOX. The results showed that the acidic medium was beneficial to the release of DOX PEG-Fe3O4@DOX. It is beneficial to release DOX from NPs PEG-Fe3O4@DOX NPs can accurately reach the cancerous site for release and achieve the purpose of precise treatment.

Real-Time Monitoring of the Thermal Effect for the Redox Flow Battery by an Infrared Thermal Imaging Technology

In this study, a new monitoring method was developed, titled infrared thermal imaging technology, which can effectively evaluate the thermal effect of the charge-discharge test in the vanadium/iodine redox flow battery (V/I RFB). The results show that the all-vanadium redox flow battery (all-V RFB) has a greater molar reaction Gibbs free energy change than that of the V/I RFB, representing a large thermal effect of the all-V RFB than the V/I RFB. The charge-discharge parameters, flow rate and current density, are important factors for inducing the thermal effect, because of the concentration polarization and the ohmic resistor. The new membrane (HS-SO3H) shows a high ion exchange capacity and a good ions crossover inhibitory for the V/I RFB system, and has a high coulomb efficiency that reaches 96%. The voltage efficiency was enhanced from 61% to 86% using the C-TiO2-Pd composite electrode as a cathode with the serpentine-type flow field for the V/I RFB. By adopting the high-resolution images of an infrared thermal imaging technology with the function of the temperature profile data, it is useful to evaluate the key components’ performance of the V/I RFB, and is a favorable candidate in the developing of the redox flow battery system.

Non-Destructive Characterization of Railway Materials and Components with Infrared Thermography Technique.

Infrared (IR) thermography technology is one of the leading non-destructive evaluation (NDE) techniques based on infrared detection. Infrared thermography, in particular, has the advantage of not only being used in non-contact mode but also provides full images, real-time inspection, and relatively fast results. These advantages make it possible to perform thermal imaging analysis of railway materials and/or components, such as brake disc simulation, monitoring of abnormal heat generation, and monitoring of temperature changes, during mechanical tests. This study introduces the current state of research on railway materials and/or components using IR thermography technology. An attempt was made to characterize the deterioration of electrical equipment of diesel electric locomotives using infrared thermal imaging techniques. In addition, surface temperature monitoring was performed during tensile testing of railway steels using a high-speed infrared camera. Damage evolution due to the hot spot generation of railway brake discs was successfully monitored using high-speed IR cameras. In this paper, IR thermal imaging technology, used as a non-destructive evaluation analysis in the railway field, was introduced, and the results of recent research are presented.

Tensile Fracture Behavior and Characterization of Ceramic Matrix Composites.

Tensile fracture behavior of ceramic matrix composites (CMCs) was investigated using characterization tools. First, a high-speed infrared camera was used to monitor the surface temperature of the CMC specimen during mechanical testing. An infrared camera is a tool used to detect infrared (IR) radiation emitted from a specimen as a function of temperature, and it was used to analyze the temperature monitoring of specimen surface and fracture behavior during the tensile test. After the test, the microstructural analysis using SEM was performed. SEM analysis was performed to investigate the fracture mode and fracture mechanism of CMC materials. In this paper, it was found that the results of the surface temperature monitoring obtained from IR thermal imaging technology and the failure mode analysis obtained through SEM were in a good agreement. These techniques were useful tools to explain the mechanical behavior of ceramic matrix composites. The detailed experiments and testing results will be provided.

The Detection Research to Night License Plate Based on Infrared Thermal Imaging Technology

To extract the license plate information in night scene and improve the vehicle safety management competence, the research extracts the license plate message of night driving vehicles based on the infrared image technology. The license plate number is located by using the log operator edge detection, and characters are segmented and analyzed for realizing the function that vehicle license plate information acquirement. The result of the research indicates that infrared thermal imaging technology is able to pick up the plate information at night, which provides the reference for night plate information detection.

Assessment of Asphalt Concrete Pavement Quality by Using Infrared Thermal Imaging Technology

Manholes cause uneven pavements, which affect the quality of pavement services, leading to public criticism in Taiwan. Many manholes are buried beneath pavements to ensure evenness and enhance the usability of pavements for pedestrians. The presence of manholes affects the quality of the asphalt concrete underneath the pavement because then conducting excavations using road construction equipment becomes difficult, ultimately leading to early deterioration of the pavement surfaces. Temperatures can also differ considerably between the manhole and non-manhole locations on asphalt concrete pavement. This study used infrared thermal imaging technology and an analysis of variances statistical method to investigate the differences in temperature changes at manhole locations. This technology can obtain accurate and detailed information on surface temperatures. The results reveal that the asphalt concrete in manhole and non-manhole areas will exhibit temperature differences of approximately 24-58℃, thus allowing for more accurate positioning of manholes during construction. In addition, this infrared thermal imaging technology can be used to determine pavement construction quality base on temperature uniformity of the asphalt concrete. Thus, infrared thermal imaging technology provides an optimal and cost-effective solution for constructing and maintaining pavements.

Clinical Trial on the Characteristics of Zheng Classification of Pulmonary Diseases Based on Infrared Thermal Imaging Technology

Zheng classification study based on infrared thermal imaging technology has not been reported before. To detect the relative temperature of viscera and bowels of different syndromes patients with pulmonary disease and to summarize the characteristics of different Zheng classifications, the infrared thermal imaging technology was used in the clinical trial. The results showed that the infrared thermal images characteristics of different Zheng classifications of pulmonary disease were distinctly different. The influence on viscera and bowels was deeper in phlegm-heat obstructing lung syndrome group than in cold-phlegm obstructing lung syndrome group. It is helpful to diagnose Zheng classification and to improve the diagnosis rate by analyzing the infrared thermal images of patients. The application of infrared thermal imaging technology provided objective measures for medical diagnosis and treatment in the field of Zheng studies and provided a new methodology for Zheng classification.

Infrared measurement and simulation of mag-nesium alloy welding temperature field

The welding temperature field of magnesium alloy AZ31 welded by TIG was measured with the uncooled infrared (IR) thermal imaging technology. The variables in the mathematic mode of welding temperature fields were revised by IR temperature data. Based on the results of simulation, the loss of temperature fields caused by arc interfered was compensated, and a whole temperature field was achieved, which provided a precise and powerful foundation for the investigation of microstructure of the joints.
