Top IT Challenges in ARL Libraries

The practice of information technology (IT) in academic libraries is changing rapidly, not only with new and evolving developments in the technologies themselves but also with the organization and management of IT at both the library and institution levels. This study presents the results of an online survey of Association of Research Libraries (ARL) academic library members to identify the biggest challenges they perceive in the area of information technology organization and management. This article compares their responses with challenges reported in earlier studies to identify new and changing trends as well as ongoing challenges that remain.

Recipes for institutional adoption of a teacher-driven learning analytics tool

The changing landscape of higher education is putting increasing strain on educators, leading to a diminishing ability to provide pedagogical and pastoral support to ballooning and diversifying cohorts. Learning analytics promises solutions to these challenges for educators, including by personalising learning support and experiences, streamlining data capture and analyses, and providing teachers with new, efficient teaching approaches. However, reports of these impacts, or widespread adoption of learning analytics, or even examples of cross-institutional collaboration are sparse. We argue that this may be because of a lack of educator-driven learning analytics tools that meet their felt needs, and present case studies from three Australian universities that have collaborated to implement such a tool. This tool, the Student Relationship Engagement System (SRES), empowers educators to collect, collate, analyse, and use student engagement and success data that they consider meaningful for their particular contexts. Developed by unfunded educators and widely adopted through collegiate recommendations, the SRES enables personalisation and targeting of student learning and support using relevant data, fostering positive student-teacher relationships and enhancing student engagement. Using the three case studies as a backdrop, we present a revised learning analytics adoption framework focussing on strategy, structure, support, and impact, and use this framework to systematically evaluate the implementation of the SRES at the three institutions to derive ‘recipes’ for adopting an educator-focussed learning analytics platform. We also discuss three core themes emerging from the case studies, around the needs of academics, the role of academic and educational developers, and flexible and agile information technology practices.

Sustainable IT practices in Nigerian banking: Environmental perspectives review

This review paper aims to critically analyze sustainable information technology (IT) practices in the Nigerian banking sector, focusing on environmental perspectives. The primary objective is to identify and evaluate the extent to which Nigerian banks have integrated sustainable IT practices and the impact of these practices on environmental sustainability. The methodology involves a comprehensive review of existing literature, including academic journals, industry reports, and case studies, to gather insights into the current state of sustainable IT in Nigerian banking. Key findings reveal that while some Nigerian banks have begun to adopt green IT initiatives, such as paperless operations, energy-efficient data centers, and electronic banking services, the overall adoption rate is relatively low compared to global standards. The study identifies barriers to adoption, including lack of awareness, limited regulatory frameworks, and inadequate infrastructure. Despite these challenges, the paper highlights the potential benefits of sustainable IT practices, such as reduced carbon footprint, operational cost savings, and enhanced corporate reputation. The paper concludes that for Nigerian banks to fully embrace sustainable IT practices, there needs to be a concerted effort involving policy formulation, awareness campaigns, and investment in green technologies. It recommends that stakeholders, including government, regulatory bodies, and the banks themselves, collaborate to create an enabling environment for sustainable IT. This review contributes to the understanding of sustainable IT in the Nigerian banking sector and provides a foundation for future research and policy development in this area.

Incorporating health IT into primary care transformation.

To understand the role of health information technology (IT) vendors and health IT functionality in supporting advanced primary care. We synthesized multiple rounds of surveys and interviews (2017-2022) from a mixed-methods evaluation of Comprehensive Primary Care Plus (CPC+), a multipayer model developed by CMS. CPC+ was the first federal advanced primary care reform effort that formalized health IT vendors' roles in supporting health IT implementation and specified detailed health IT requirements for practices. We conducted content analysis to identify cross-cutting themes related to health IT for both practices and vendors, comparing similarities and differences across participants and (when possible) over time. Vendors and practices reported advances in registries and dashboards for improved information management within the practice as well as strengthened relationships between vendors and practices that supported health IT implementation. However, CPC+ practices noted several gaps or challenges using existing functionalities, and both vendors and practices reported broader challenges for more transformative health IT change, particularly the lack of interoperable health information exchange needed to support care management and care coordination. Key factors constraining vendors' investment in further advances included long product development schedules, making it difficult to respond to rapidly evolving model requirements. Vendors also shared that CPC+ practices represented a small fraction of their client base, so investing in developing new functionality was not strategic unless it was more broadly relevant outside CPC+. Continued collaboration among health IT vendors, practices, policy makers, and payers could support continued technological improvements, particularly related to information exchange and communication. Aligning requirements more closely with other federal and private models could also help mitigate the risk for vendors.

Information Ethics Among College Students – Selected Countries Analysis

ABSTRACT Information ethics (IE) influences how people use and produce information and affects information services, information technology (IT), and professional practices. Lack of IE severely affects individuals, teams, organizations, or the community. This research bridges a gap in understanding IE perceptions and IE-declared behavior among different sociodemographic profiles in the global communicative space. We devised an extended version of the IT ethics survey to measure attitudes toward IE issues. We surveyed a sample of 1,648 college students in seven countries. We identified four clusters, uncovering groups of people with very high (Legalists), high (Moralists), fair (Pragmatists), and low (Anarchists) perceptions of the IE issues. Clusters allow the exploration of patterns in IE perceptions that would remain hidden at an individual level of analysis and can help to predict IE-related behavior. The findings imply that teachers should adapt IE curricula, and managers should customize the policies and interventions to these groups. Furthermore, managers should consider group behavior and account for factors that affect it in the corporate world, such as lower computer knowledge. International managers should be aware that certain groups behave more unethically with IT and are overrepresented in certain countries.

Set against the backdrop of Nigeria's dynamic economic landscape, the study aims to unravel the complexities and potential of IT and data analytics in reshaping the country's business environment. The research adopts a review approach to study traverse various domains, including the historical evolution of IT, the transformative role of data analytics in decision-making, governance hurdles in the IT sector, and compliance issues within Nigerian IT practices. The findings reveal a significant IT and data analytics evolution, marked by increased adoption and integration into business operations. However, challenges such as infrastructural inadequacies, skill gaps, and regulatory complexities emerge as significant barriers. The study concludes that for Nigerian enterprises to fully leverage IT innovations, a robust governance framework, strategic alignment of IT practices, and investment in technology and skills development are imperative. Recommendations include fostering a culture of innovation, adaptability, and compliance to navigate the digital landscape effectively. The study serves as a comprehensive guide for businesses, policymakers, and stakeholders in the Nigerian IT sector, offering insights for leveraging IT innovations for sustainable growth and development.

Capstone Projects and their Transition into the Software Development Industry: A 10 Year Systematic Review of Literature

This study sought to examine the existing software engineering and Information Technology practices covered in final-year capstone projects in higher institutions of learning around the world, and the possibility of commercializing products developed from these projects. The researchers undertook a Systematic Literature Review methodology. The researchers used Artificial Intelligence (A.I.) tools, including Litmaps and Connected Papers for literature identification, while Quillbot and Scholarly A.I. were used for summary writing. Manual full paper review, data extraction and synthesis, and quantitative analyses were done on the final dataset using Microsoft Word, Excel, and Rayyan.ai. Eighty-eight papers from ACM Library, IEEE, Science Direct, EBSCOHost, Emerald Insight, Taylor & Francis, and Google Scholar were reviewed. Most papers were from Western countries, with only a few from Africa. Findings indicate a remarkable movement from traditional software engineering practices such as Waterfall to modern agile methods such as Scrum and Kaban. There was an increased use of Generative A.I. and Machine learning platforms such as GitHub and Arduino in projects profiled. Common scripting languages used by students were Java and Python. Most projects were undertaken in groups, with no prospective client. Most capstone courses were purely academic endeavours, and only a few were ever commercialized and transformed into industry products. One limitation of the review is that it includes grey literature from conferences and student theses. The study provides insights into State-of-the-Art approaches that can be adopted by higher institutions of learning to improve capstone courses.

The development of technology and information is an inevitable update in entering the 4.0 era. Hardware is always needed in various technologies, whether computers or other technologies. Hardware can work according to its function if the computer has set the Instruction set including input, process, output, storage, and troubleshooting. Troubleshooting is one way to manage information security with the aim of ensuring the suitability of IT (Information Technology) practices by optimizing IT security policies and standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) in the use of hardware in the Tri Ratna Vocational lab. In order for the implementation of IT security policies and standard operating procedures (SOPs) to be optimized, interviews and analysis of any deficiencies and problems that often occur. Then the research team provides solutions or proposals to optimize the application of IT Security Policy, SOP and Daily Activity. Because with the application of IT Security Policy, SOP (Standard Operating Procedure) and daily activity that is precise, clear and firm, then every device available in the computer lab will be able to run according to its use and function optimally and the protection carried out against hardware can run optimally.

Assessing and validating the specialized competency framework for pharmacists in sales and marketing (SCF-PSM): a cross-sectional analysis in Lebanon

ObjectivesCompetencies refer to the knowledge, skills, attitudes, and behaviors individuals develop through education, training, and experience. These competencies can be formulated into a framework to support practitioner development for effective and sustained performance. In the absence of a national framework for pharmacy education and practice in Lebanon, the Order of Pharmacists of Lebanon (OPL, the official association of pharmacists in Lebanon) pioneered the development of a pharmacy competency framework in 2017. This study aimed to validate and assess the specialized competency framework for pharmacists in sales and marketing (SCF-PSM) after updating the framework previously published by the OPL. The secondary objective was to assess, in a pilot survey, the personal characteristics associated with these competencies.MethodsAfter validating the content of the specialized competency framework, a survey involving Lebanese pharmacists was performed through a 15-min online questionnaire distributed over social media platforms, groups of pharmacists, and individual pharmacists’ contact numbers.Key findingsPharmaceutical knowledge, communication, emergency response, and operation management during emergencies were satisfactory (more than 80/100). Other activities during emergencies, such as patient care and population health interventions and evaluation, research, and dissemination of research outcomes, received a moderate score (75–78/100), similar to legal practice (78/100), teamwork (76/100), and management skills (75/100). The lowest reported confidence was related to professional communication skills (other than communication per se), mainly negotiation, data processing skills, information technology, self-management, and ethical practice (< 75/100). This study reported deficiencies between what is acquired during undergraduate, postgraduate, and continuing education on the one hand and the competency framework suggested by the OPL on the other hand, showing a mismatch between the competencies of working pharmacists acquired during education and the market needs.ConclusionsThis study validated a competency framework for pharmacists in sales and marketing and explored the current gaps in self-reported competencies. It also identified areas necessitating reinforcement to optimize professional practice and underscored the need for improvement in undergraduate, postgraduate, and continuing professional education.

UTILISATION OF HEALTH INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY AMONG DIETITIANS IN THE WORKPLACE: A QUALITATIVE STUDY

Dietitians play an important role in advocating lifestyle changes, such as dietary modifications and physical activity, to effectively prevent chronic diseases and avoid complications. The use of information technologies (IT) helps dietitians to engage with their patients. This paper explores the use health information technology among dietitians in the workplace. Four focus group sessions involving fifteen dietitians from hospitals and universities were conducted using an online platform. Participants were recruited using purposive and snowball sampling. A semi-structured questionnaire was used to facilitate the interview to understand better dietitians' health IT practices. Interviews were videotaped, verbatim transcribed, and emerging themes and subthemes were thematically analysed. Inductive and deductive content analysis were used. Four themes emerged from the data: 1. utility of health IT tools, 2. factors that influence the use of health IT, 3. frequency of use, and 4. perceived barriers to adoption of health IT. Participants used health IT through health-related mobile applications, web-based platforms, and social media applications. Participants cited self-motivation, advertisement, training, peers, patients, content, ease of use, developers, quality, and functionality as factors in their use of health IT. Some barriers to utilising health IT included not disease-specific tools, inappropriate for all age groups, inaccurate information, inconvenient, required a paid version, and being overloaded with information. This study demonstrates how dietitians make use of health information technology in their practice. Support is required to overcome information technology barriers to be applied successfully in practice. It is important for dietitians to stay current with technological advancements. Dietitians will be able to stay relevant and continue to support evidence-based practice if they do so now and in the future.

Optimizing organizational performance in manufacturing: The role of IT capability, green supply chain integration, and green innovation

The purpose of this research is to investigate the complex association that exists between information technology capabilities (ITCs), green supply chain integration (GSCI), and green innovation (GI) on organizational performance in the manufacturing industry. By analyzing data from a sample of manufacturing organizations (n = 620), this study pursues to understand how ITC influences the implementation and efficacy of green initiatives throughout the supply chain and how this, in turn, affects organizational performance. The findings suggest that ITC boosts GSCI and overall organizational performance and that green process innovation and green product innovation mediate the relationship between different dimensions of GSCI and performance. The study findings have important implications for academics and practitioners who want to learn how to combine information technology and green practices to improve organizational performance.

Information Technology Practices and Job Performance of Secretaries in Tertiary Institutions in Lagos State, Nigeria

Information plays a vital role in the life of every individual and a country at large. The life sustainer of every organization can be traced to information technology practices. Secretaries are not left out in the practice of information technological. However, a situation whereby the indicators of information and technology management is not practiced, there is every tendency that the level of job performance working in such organizations will be questioned. In this regard, this study deems it fit to investigate how Information Technology Practices (ITP) will influence Job Performance (JP) of secretaries in higher institutions of learning in Lagos state. Descriptive research design was adopted. Population consists of 1189 secretaries in higher institution of learning in Lagos state. Multistage sampling technique was adopted, afterwards, 226 secretaries served as the sample size for this study. The reliability coefficient for each of the variable ranged from 0.70 to 0.95. Data collected was analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. Findings revealed that ITP was found to significantly influence JP (Adj. R2 = 0.102; p = 0.000). The study concluded that in terms of achieving maximum job performance, only ITP will bring about this. The study recommended that taking decisions by secretaries should be engineered by IT related factors, should actually avail themselves of making use of state of the art IT facilities during the course of their jobs and also secretaries in higher institution of learning in Lagos state should be compensated handsomely if they carry out extra jobs within the institution. An Introduction to Education Informatization for Educational Equity: An Example of Online Education Platform

Education informatization is based on modern information technology, and the main feature is the wide application of information technology in education, which organically combines modern information technology with subject teaching, so that various teaching resources can be shared and students can interact, interact and develop together. With the deep integration of information technology and education practice, the in-depth use of information technology makes China's education more fair and just, and education informatization is an important way to improve education equity, improve teaching quality and promote education modernization. TRANSFORMING SERVICE OPERATIONS WITH AI: A CASE FOR BUSINESS VALUE

Artificial Intelligence (AI) has rapidly become a critical technology for businesses seeking to improve efficiency and profitability. One area where AI is proving particularly impactful is in service operations management, where it is used to create AI-powered service operations (AIServiceOps) that deliver highvalue services to customers. AIServiceOps involve the use of AI to automate and optimize various business processes, such as customer service, sales, marketing, and supply chain management. The rapid development of Artificial Intelligence has prompted many changes in the field of Information Technology (IT) Service Operations. IT Service Operations are driven by AI, i.e., AIServiceOps. AI has empowered new vitality and addressed many challenges in IT Service Operations. However, there is a literature gap on the Business Value Impact of Artificial intelligence (AI) Powered IT Service Operations. It can help IT build optimized business resilience by creating value in complex and ever-changing environments as product organizations move faster than IT can handle. So, this research paper examines how AIServiceOps creates business value and sustainability, basically how AIServiceOps makes the IT staff liberation from a low-level, repetitive workout and traditional IT practices for a continuously optimized process. One of the research objectives is to compare Traditional IT Service Operations with AIServiceOPs. This paper provides the basis for how enterprises can evaluate AIServiceOps and consider it a digital transformation tool. The paper presents a case study of a company that implemented AI-powered service operations (AIServiceOps) and analyzes the resulting business outcomes. The study shows that AIServiceOps can significantly improve service delivery, reduce response times, and increase customer satisfaction. Furthermore, it demonstrates how AIServiceOps can deliver substantial cost savings, such as reducing labor costs and minimizing downtime.

The Analysis of Information and Communication Technology, Supply Chain Management, Competitive Advantage, and SMEs Performanc

This study analyzed the performance of SMEs influenced by information communication technology, supply chain management, and competitive advantage. The researcher selected the bakpia-producing SMEs in Sleman Regency as the population in this study. This research analyzed the data collected from the questionnaires using SEM (Structural Equation Modeling) analysis method using the SmartPLS v.3.2.7 software. The results of this study show that not all hypotheses are accepted. The first hypothesis is accepted where supply chain management positively affects competitive advantage. Supply chain management also affects SME performance positively; thus, the second hypothesis is accepted. Meanwhile, the third hypothesis is accepted, where information communication technology positively affects supply chain management. Two hypotheses are not accepted. The first is the fourth hypothesis: information and communication technology do not affect competitive advantage. The second is the fifth hypothesis: competitive advantage does not affect SME performance. The research team suggests bakpia-producing SMEs to improve information and communication technology and supply chain management practices.

Health Information Technologies in a Resource-Limited Setting: Knowledge, Attitude, and Practice of Health Professionals.

The use of health information technology significantly enhances patient outcomes. As a result, policymakers from developing countries have placed strong emphasis on formulating eHealth policies and initiatives. However, there have not been many successful deployments to show for. The role of individual factors in the successful implementation of these technologies is indispensable. Therefore, this study assesses healthcare professionals' knowledge, attitudes, and practice of health information technology. An institution-based cross-sectional study was conducted at the University of Gondar Comprehensive Specialized Hospital from November 15 to December 29, 2020. A structured, self-administered questionnaire was used to collect data. Student's t-test was used to learn if there were any significant differences in practice habits between participants with and without previous information technology-related training. In addition, first-order partial correlation was conducted to identify the relationship of knowledge and attitude with practice. A total of 347 health professionals responded to the questionnaire, yielding an 87.2% response rate. Most health professionals are not aware of how to use health information technologies. Notably, practice levels were low and needed prompt action from responsible authorities. Previous training did not work very well to improve the practice levels of health professionals. However, the positive attitude of these professionals encourages policymakers and implementers to engage closely.

The Relation Among Business Process Orientation Practices in Influencing Organizational Performance

Organizations always look for ways to improve their performance to survive in the business environment. One way to improve organizational performance is to improve business process orientation (BPO). Several studies identified practices that can be implemented and significantly impact an organization’s BPO maturity. These practices are called Critical Practices (CPs) strategic view, process definition and documentation, process measurement and management, organizational process structure, people management, process organizational culture, market orientation, supplier view, and information technology. However, most studies treat CPs independently, and the relationship between CPs and between CPs with organizational performance has not been addressed. This study tests and confirms the relationship between CPs, BPO, and organizational performance. Based on the literature, a structural model of the relationship between CPs and organizational performance is developed. An online questionnaire is designed to collect data from various organizations in Indonesia. The survey results are analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) to investigate the relationship between variables. Most hypothesized relationships between CPs are confirmed except the relationship between supplier practices (SU) and culture (CT), which are not supported. Not all practices affect organizational performance directly, but they must be mediated by other practices to have a significant effect. The results suggest that to improve organizational performance, an organization needs to improve the practice of strategic view (SV), performance measurement (PM), customer (CU), process definition (PD), and information technology (IT).

Information and Communication Technology and Its Reflections on Human Resources Management Practices

The study dealt with two variables of great importance to organizations represented by Information Technology and Communications expressed in their scope (hardware and equipment, software, communications and users) and human resource management practices represented by (human resource planning, employment, training and development, Compensation and incentives and performance evaluation), accordingly the study aimed to determine the repercussions or impact of Technology Information and Communication on human resource management practices in the Mosul Municipality Directorate in Nineveh governorate, The questionnaire was used as a tool for data collection distributed to a sample of (100) person who representing the managers in the field of research organization under study, and several statistical methods were used in the analysis of this data, Statistician Program (SPSS, Ver.26).The study reached several conclusions that confirmed as well as the existence of interrelationships and influence between information and communication Technology and human resource management practices at The level of their whole and partial scope.
