The rise of the phenomenon of bus companies competing with each other and competing gaverise to various strategies to win their competitive advantage. For this reason, this study aimsto investigate and analyze a number of factors that cause competitiveness such as quality ofservice, technology and information systems and knowledge management on the competitiveadvantages of bus companies. The population and research sample are all bus companiesbetween cities and provinces in the island of Java, with the unit of analysis of bus companymanagers being observed in 2022 in August - December using physical and virtualquestionnaire media. Primary data analysis techniques were carried out by using statisticaldescriptive tests, testing the quality of research data instruments and other feasibility, testingthe research hypothesis, and multiple linear regression tests with SEM PLS path analysis.Findings indicate that there is a positive and significant influence on competitive advantagethrough the variables of this study, namely service quality, information technology andsystems, and knowledge management applied by bus companies. Theoretical contribution onthe theoretical aspects of detection and measurement which proves a number of variablescapable of influencing the competitive advantage of service companies. Practice/policycontribution, for company managers this research is relevant which has information andreferences in an effort to increase competitive advantage through the variables observed inthis research.Keywords: Competitive Advantage, Service Quality, Information Technology, Knowledge Management

In addition to technology and information systems, human resources also play an important role in the success of a company. Therefore, many companies develop information technology and systems to carry out effective human resource management. This study uses the Rapid Application Development (RAD) method, a human resource system developed with an application programming language based on Visual Basic. NET. This application aims to assist companies in managing their employees by recording applicant and employee information, employee submissions, employee attendance, and reports to manage their employees. Extent of artificial intelligence into accounting and auditing work - an analytical attempt of job and duties

Whereas information technology and systems (IT/IS) are anticipated to render rewards for the accounting and auditing profession, there are increasing fears that IT/IS may be able to automate most or even all of the duties. Little was discussed in literature in this regard although overwhelming questions are continually being raised in various forums without enough answers and clarifications: which of the duties/tasks can be automated, and accordingly whether it is majority since this may force the discipline to reshape itself. An open-ended questionnaire to members of association of accountants in Jordan was administered. The study arrives at a number of observations and concluding remarks; the chance of intrusion of IT/IS into accounting practice is nearly two thirds of the set of various tasks and duties that can be assigned to accountants/auditors. This result is reached through effort of breakdown of tasks and duties of accounting/auditing. Future research thereafter is discussed.

Green IS - information system framework to support environmental sustainability of firms

With increasing awareness of sustainability issues, businesses are being scrutinised to reduce their ecological footprints and resource intensity. Information technology and systems (IT/IS) being the backbone to support information needs of firms, cannot shy away from the responsibility of supporting firms with sustainability choices, much of which has remained confined to short-term strategies like reducing energy usage and carbon footprint of IT landscape. By leveraging process-oriented view of organisational functions, we explore how green IS can partner with the business processes (green or red) to encapsulate inherent and desired environmental considerations and bring other IS elements like technologies, systems and users together to interact. This, we postulate, not only introduces elements like uncertainty, complexity and dynamism, that characterises green IS (as a field of study) and differentiates it from traditional IS, but also challenges green IS to deal with a new and evolving information space.

Hybrid Virtual- and Field Work-based Service Learning with Green Information Technology and Systems Projects

Traditional engineering service learning (SL) projects can be classified as: 1) collaborations with a community group or non-profit organization to provide specific engineering around a community need, or 2) an internship-like experience with industry to address work requested by a client. The limitation of both traditional SL approaches is that they do not prepare students to implement unprescribed projects. In contrast, here students chose both the project and the partner for a self-directed engineering SL experience. This paper presents the findings of this novel pedagogical exercise in which students acted as change agents for industry by implementing unsolicited energy conservation measures (ECMs) focused on green information technology and systems (IT/S), in order to improve organizations’ environmental and economic performance. The hybrid SL projects had both ‘virtual’ and ‘real’ (field-work) SL components. For the virtual component, student teams developed and published on-line, open-source ECM calculators. For the field-work component, the teams self-selected industry clients and performed IT/S energy audits. Applicable ECMs were then selected and tailored, forming the basis of recommendations to the organizations. Results demonstrate the effectiveness of such hybrid engineering SL projects.

Engineering Service Learning with Green Information Technology and Systems Projects

It is well established that university engineering students are capable of concrete contributions to sustainable development while improving their academic skills by undertaking service learning (SL) projects tailored for the content of the course. These SL projects can normally be classified as: 1) collaborations with a community group or non-profit organization to provide specific engineering design or construction around a community need, or 2) an internship-like experience with industry in which students provide solicited work for a client. The limitation of both of these approaches is that they do not prepare students to implement projects that are not prescribed. This paper presents the findings for a novel pedagogical exercise in which students were assigned SL projects in which they were to act as change agents for industry by implementing unsolicited energy conservation measures (ECMs) to improve the environmental performance of an organization. These ECMs focused on green information technology and systems (IT/S) SL projects, which were integrated into a 4 year mechanical engineering elective in engineering for sustainable development. The projects were broken into two components – a virtual and a real SL project. For the virtual component, the students used Appropedia.org, an appropriate technology wiki, to coordinate the five member teams and to develop and publish ECMs utilizing green IT/S. The ECMs created by students were constructed from templates, which had been developed by a multi-disciplinary team made up of representatives from economics, engineering, environmental studies, and management information systems. The ECMs were then open sourced and made available for any organization to use to economically and environmentally justify improvements in IT/S. For the second component, the student teams self-selected industry clients and obtained permission to perform IT/S energy audits of the organizations. After performing the audits, the teams selected among the ECMs developed by the class to make recommendations to the organizations. Preliminary results are presented and discussed and conclusions are drawn on the effectiveness of such hybridization projects to SL in engineering.

Aligning IT/IS with Business Strategy Re-Visited

This paper explores the co-relational process activities of information technology and systems (IT/IS) and business strategy alignment. The notion of “process” as being strategy and strategic alignment has been observed but not examined. Organizations are both complex and adaptive, and these attributes create significant challenges for managers when assessing strategic requirements. A need exists to further understand alignment as a process and embrace this concept when aligning business IT/IS with the strategic goals of the organisation. This highlights an important distinction of “process” that recasts the nature of congruence and reassesses the appropriateness and usefulness of current practice. The authors propose the use of principles underpinning complex adaptive systems as a way to re-orientate IT/IS alignment in a meaningful and more appropriate manner. The context for the study is the UK Health Service, and informed by a case analysis of 26 senior members from a Scottish Health Board.

Editorial Statement: Information Technology and Systems (ITS) Department

This paper introduces the Information and Technology Systems (ITS) Department of CAIS. The department focuses on articles in design science. The goal of design-science research is the development and evaluation of technologies that extend the boundaries of human and organizational information-processing capabilities. Research must demonstrate the utility of such technologies to address problems or tasks not previously thought to be amenable to IT support. The article presents the objectives, concepts, and publication procedures for the ITS Department.

Integration technology: The reinvention of the linkage between information systems and computer science

The Computer Science (CS) and Information Systems (IS) fields are facing considerable challenges. At the same time, the Information Technology and Systems (ITS) community, which lies at the intersection of CS and IS, is uniquely positioned to address and solve important problems that are outside of the traditional domains of either CS or IS. An important development is the increasing criticality of Integration Technologies (IT) and the need for Integration Specialists (IS) 1. Examples are given of aspplications-driven integration technology-intensive research needed by business to support globalization, increased productivity, and rapid adaptation.

Information management: The Henley-IBM study contract

This paper is intended for general managers and those concerned with teaching information management. It gives the principal findings of a study to investigate why managers do, or do not, adopt modern Information Technology and Systems (IT/IS). The study was sponsored by IBM (UK) Ltd, and was conducted from 1986 to 1988 in the UK at Henley - The Management College. The findings are presented in four main areas: individual attitudes to IT/IS; group attitudes to IT/IS; the impact of IT/IS on management education; and the future of information management. Conclusions are drawn, relevant to general management.
