The results demonstrate significant direct impacts, with FSI positively influencing EF and PC, and ISS exerting a positive influence on EF. Furthermore, the study unveils meaningful indirect effects, indicating that the influence of FSI and ISS on PC is partially mediated by their impact on EF. These findings collectively underscore the strategic significance of well-implemented strategies and sophisticated information systems in shaping external factors and enhancing organizational performance capabilities. Optimization Path for Management Decision-Making of Chinese Public Hospitals Under the Background of Big Data

This study examines how Big Data might improve Chinese public hospital management. A comprehensive study examines how data diversity, storage efficiency, analytics tools, and information system complexity affect decision-making. A carefully selected quantitative dataset from Chinese public hospitals is used in the study. Analyses use structured medical records, semi-structured billing data, and unstructured patient comments. The sample size of 115 was chosen for statistical robustness and multiple regression analysis best practices, which recommend 10-20 observations per predictor variable for estimate. Multiple linear regression analysis highlights amazing correlations and stresses data diversity, storage efficiency, analytics tools, and information system sophistication in decision efficiency. The study helps healthcare executives and regulators understand the complex relationship between regression coefficients and modified R-squared value. Also evaluated are Chinese public hospitals' strengths and weaknesses. Strengths include data integration, analytics, and advanced information systems. Thus, the study found a significant relationship between sophisticated strategic information systems and strategic performances and hence recommends its relevance in achieving strategic performances within the context of the Malaysian Islamic banking industry.

Based on above, this devotion program is empowerment,strengthening understanding and technical capability of accounting process related preparing financial statement easily.and accurate. The developing information systems appication that will be used in SMEs (Small and Medium Enterprises) to obtain report of sale, report of inventory based database Access application effectively and relevance.The model of this devotion was descriptive qualitatif which measure target quantity, efficient system quality, and timeliness of preparing finanacial statement.Based on quesionare feedback from participant we got 74% of participant stated that application implementationwas easily. Relationship between information systems sophistication and performance measurement

PurposeStudies in performance measurement systems (PMS) seem to receive little attention in the information system (IS) literature. The purpose of this paper, therefore, is to contribute to the stream of research in the fields of performance measurement and ISs.Design/methodology/approachThe paper examines how IS sophistication is linked to PMSs by investigating the use of performance measures in the Malaysian financial services industry. Data were collected from 140 financial institutions through self‐administered questionnaire survey of top‐level executives. A component‐based structural equation modelling, partial least squares, was used to test the research model.FindingsThe results indicate that IS sophistication is a determinant of performance measures. The results also indicate that different dimensions of IS sophistication affect different dimensions of performance measures usage.Originality/valueThe paper significantly extends prior research on performance measures by establishing IS sophistication links to the different types of performance measures. Further, the findings clarify the distinct and important roles of each IS dimension's influence on performance measures.

Operational Risk Measurement in Banking Institutions and Investment Firms: New European Evidences

The banking/investment sector must deal with a new variable, Operational Risk, for explaining various recent crises and bankruptcies. Operational Risk, which can be defined briefly as the risk generated by possible failures of a entity's Information Systems (IS), must be measured, covered, mitigated and managed by applying a series of methodologies, each of which assumes that the IS of the bank operates at a certain Stage of Sophistication. The present study proposes a scheme of evolution that details the stages of enhancement in the sophistication of their IS that banking entities may implement, so as to be capable of capturing, mitigating and managing Operational Risk. Using econometric methods, we create a proxy variable to capture the IS Sophistication of each entity. Then, the factor of entity size has been analyzed, and the country effect is explored. Additionally, the importance of intangible assets is weighted, among others entity aspects. The entity size has been revealed as the variable with most influence on the plans formulated in this respect by European entities, against other variables also considered in the present study, such as the country effect or the importance of intangible assets. The work shows how IS decisions referring to Operational Risk management are very influenced by size. It could introduce competition differences in the European banking system.

IS Success Factors and IS Organizational Impact

This research investigated the possible ownership type effect on the information systems (IS) success factors and IS impact on organizational performance in Kuwaiti organizations. Four IS success factors—IS strategy and resources, end user support, IS sophistication and IS organizational level & user involvement—and three IS organizational impact factors—improving work efficiency, improving decision making, and improving work effectiveness—were identified. Ownership type was found to affect the profiles of the IS success factors and IS organizational impact. Public organizations tend to commit less IS resources; their managers get less involved in IS strategy formulation, and their users get less involved in systems development. Yet, they tend to rate their IS organizational impact higher. This “IS expectation-performance gap” is further explained in the article, along with research implications, limitations, and future research.

Marketing and Marketing Information System Sophistication In Retail Banking

Deregulation, greater competition and information technology has led to the restrcturing of the retail banking industries in virtually all developed economies. This has led to a greater emphasis on marketing activities and the use of information technology to support these activities. In light of this development this paper seeks to analyse the extent of the growth of marketing and the sophistication of marketing information systems (MkIS) in the context of Aurstralasia and Europe. In particular empirical evidence is drawn from 67 postal questionnaires within the retail banking industries in Australia, New Zealand, UK and Ireland. The results indicate that although the use of marketing in these counties would seem to be growing, the application of information technology to support marketing is still at a low level of sophistication.

The degree of awareness of the strategic potential of IT was also positively correlated with success.

The evolution of information systems in small firms

This paper presents the findings of a longitudinal study over an eight year period of information system sophistication and evolution in eighteen small firms. The focus is on changes that have occurred with respect to hardware, end user computing, and computer utilization. The paper identifies three areas of concern for small firm computing: inadequate hardware and software, lack of internal technical expertise, and insufficient attention by management to IS. Implications for managers and directions for future research are discussed.

Potential identifiability and preventability of adverse events using information systems.

To evaluate the potential ability of computerized information systems (ISs) to identify and prevent adverse events in medical patients. Clinical descriptions of all 133 adverse events identified through chart review for a cohort of 3,138 medical patients were evaluated by two reviewers. For each adverse event, three hierarchical levels of IS sophistication were considered: Level 1--demographics, results for all diagnostic tests, and current medications would be available on-line; Level 2--all orders would be entered on-line by physicians; and Level 3--additional clinical data, such as automated problem lists, would be available on-line. Potential for event identification and potential for event prevention were scored by each reviewer according to two distinct sets of event monitors. Of all the adverse events, 53% were judged identifiable using Level 1 information, 58% were judged identifiable using Level 2 information, and 89% were judged identifiable using Level 3 information. The highest-yield event monitors for identifying adverse events were "panic" laboratory results, unexpected transfer to an intensive care unit, and hospital-incurred trauma. With information from Levels 1, 2, and 3, 5%, 13%, and 23% of the adverse events, respectively, were judged preventable. For preventing these adverse events, guided-dose algorithms, drug-laboratory checks, and drug-patient characteristic checks held the most potential.

An Empirical Reassessment of the Measure of Information System Sophistication

For over a decade, Richard Nolan's stage model on the assimilation of information system IS technology has received a significant amount of attention from both academicians and practitioners. The existing empirical studies addressing aspects of the stage model have shown mixed results. This might be due to the inability of the existing questionnaires in capturing the essence of the stage model. To provide added perspective, this study adapted Nolan's stage benchmarks to develop and test a questionnaire which seems to better capture the essence of the stage model than the existing ones. One hundred and twenty-three companies participated in the study. The results indicated that the instrument possesses reliability and validity in measuring the stages of IS sophistication. The DP-expenditure benchmark was confirmed to have no discriminating power between IS growth stages. It was found that 1 DP expenditures of most firms grow less than the rate of sales growth regardless of the stage of IS growth, 2 the higher the ratio of EDP/MIS budget to sales, the higher the growth of DP expenditure, 3 a company with a higher applications-portfolio stage tends to have a higher DPplanning-and-control or user-awareness stage, and vice versa, 4 a company with a higher technology stage or a higher DP-organization stage does not necessarily have a higher applications-portfolio, DP-planning-and-control, or userawareness stage, and 5 the composite average of the five benchmarks excluding the DP-expenditure one appears to represent the overall status of an organization's IS sophistication and may be used by prospective researchers as a relative measure to compare stages of IS growth between two or more organizations

Benchmarking human resource information systems in Canada and Hong Kong

As local and regional economies become more competitive and interdependent, organizations can benefit from benchmarking their use of information technology (IT) on a global basis. A recent study compared the degree and sophistication of information systems (IS) in a fast developing economy, Hongkong, with that in a more developed one, Canada. Research of nine human resource management (HRM) activities found that while Canada had established a lead over the newly industrialized Asian economy in routine applications, this was narrowing. However, Hong Kong still significantly trailed its North American counterpart in IS sophistication. Management vision and support, skilled developers and a business-driven approach were critical for successful computer-based human resource information systems (CHRIS). Regulatory requirements as well as organizational and cultural factors accounted for many of the differences in IT applications between Canada and Hong Kong. The results provide a basis for management to review their own CHRIS and help to identify directions for further research on this topic.

Information system sophistication and financial performance of small engineering firms

This study investigated the relationship between information system (IS) sophistication and financial performance in small firms. The major research proposition was that information system sophistication is one cause of small firm success. Data were collected from 289 engineering firms by mail questionnaire, including 120 with at least one computer. Non-parametric statistical tests suggested that firms with more sophisticated information systems performed no better than firms with no or less sophisticated information systems. Furthermore, among only the firms with computers, some negative rather than positive correlations were found between one IS variable and two measures of financial performance. Therefore, rather than support the major proposition that IS was a success factor for small firms, the data provided evidence to the contrary.

An information system profile of U.S. companies

The information system (IS) characteristics of U.S. companies were surveyed to produce an overall IS profile. This profile was examined for statistical differences as a function of size of company and stage of IS sophistication. In general, most firms surveyed are in the so-called integration or data administration stage. There were apparently no significant differences found in EDP/MIS expenditures, computing hardware expenditures, and MIS-supported activities, due to the organization's stage of IS sophistication. The size of company is found to have no significant effect on the stage of IS sophistication. Most companies have formal IS planning and control systems and some form of distributed data processing (DDP). The majority of the companies use software for conventional programming and database management purposes with very little emphsis on their use in decision modeling and statistical analysis. Quite surprisingly, IS is still being used primarily for operational and management controls rather than for strategic planning.

Organizational Size and Information System Sophistication

Abstract:The issue of organizational size versus administrative innovation has long been of interest to economists and policy makers. The literature in this area suggests that there should be a relationship between organizational size and administrative innovation. Empirical studies of information system use have found that in the context of medical information systems, there seems to be a relationship between size and computer use. A recent paper by Gremillion in JMIS reported empirical evidence that the two variables are independent, contrary to the results predicted by established theory. This paper presents the results of a study intended to provide confirmatory evidence of this lack of relationship when some of the constraints of Gremillion’s study are relaxed. The results suggest a significant relationship between organizational size and information system sophistication, although this relationship may be muddied by technical and organizational factors.
