Cooperatives as a form of microfinance institutions are known as pillars or cornerstones of the economy. However, not much has been heard of the actions of cooperatives that are capable of becoming cooperatives on a national, international scale or using digital financial services. The existence of digitalization of cooperatives has a goal orientation for convenience, speed of service, comfort, and security when making transactions with cooperatives. In addition, efforts to digitize cooperatives are expected to accelerate the growth of cooperatives. With digitalization, cooperatives are able to expand their business scale to remote areas. Based on the situation analysis of Candra Sedana's KSP partners, various problems and limitations have been found which can be identified as follows: partners' lack of knowledge about the concept of digital transformation regarding cooperative financial information systems that are connected to the banking system and QRIS adoption and partners' lack of knowledge about the concept of change management. The solutions offered related to partner problem solving are as follows: Providing counseling regarding the concept of 'change management', Providing counseling regarding the concept of digital transformation regarding literacy regarding cooperative financial information systems that are connected to banking and the QRIS concept of optimal utilization, as well as implementing assistance and direct practice regarding the adoption of information systems and QRIS development.

Analysis of the Relationship Between E-Commerce Business and Technology-Based Accounting Information Systems with Company Audit Needs

This study explores the relationship between E-commerce business operations, Technology-Based Accounting Information Systems (AIS) adoption, and corporate audit needs through a quantitative analysis approach. Drawing on data collected from 234 participants representing E-commerce firms and audit professionals, the study employs Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) with Partial Least Squares (PLS) to analyze the relationships among key variables. The findings reveal significant positive associations between E-commerce characteristics and Technology-Based AIS adoption, as well as between Technology-Based AIS adoption and corporate audit needs. Furthermore, mediation analysis demonstrates that Technology-Based AIS adoption partially mediates the relationship between E-commerce characteristics and corporate audit needs. Additionally, moderation analysis indicates that firm size and industry type moderate these relationships, with larger firms and those in technology-intensive industries exhibiting stronger associations. These findings underscore the importance of technological innovation and organizational context in shaping audit readiness and effectiveness within E-commerce environments.

The impact and adoption of emerging technologies on accounting: perceptions of Canadian companies

Purpose This study aims to focus on the five most relevant and discursive emerging technologies in accounting (cloud computing, big data and data analytics, blockchain, artificial intelligence (AI) and robotics process automation [RPA]). It investigates the adoption and use of these technologies based on data collected from accounting professionals in a technology-developed country – Canada, through a survey. Design/methodology/approach The study investigates the adoption and use of emerging technologies based on data collected from accounting professionals in a technology-developed country – Canada, through a survey. This study considers the said nature and characteristics of emerging technologies and proposes a model using the factors that have been found to be significant and most commonly investigated by existing prior technology-organization-environment (TOE)-related technology adoption studies. This survey applies the TOE framework and examines the influence of significant and most commonly known factors on Canadian firms’ intention to adopt the said emerging technologies. Findings Study results indicate that Canadian accounting professionals’ self-assessed knowledge (about these emerging technologies) is more theoretical than operational. Cloud computing is highly used by Canadian firms, while the use of other technologies, particularly blockchain and RPA, is reportedly low. However, firms’ intention about the future adoption of these technologies seems positive. Study results reveal that only the relative advantage and top management commitment are found to be significant considerations influencing the adoption intention. Research limitations/implications Study findings confirm some results presented in earlier studies but provide additional insights from a new perspective, that of accounting professionals in Canada. The first limitation relates to the respondents. Although accounting professionals provided valuable insights, their responses are personal views and do not necessarily represent the views of other professionals within the same firm or the official position of their accounting departments or firms. Therefore, the exclusion of diverse viewpoints from the same firm might have negatively impacted the results of this study. Second, this study sample is limited to Canada-based firms, which means that the study reflects only the situation in that country. Third, considering the research method and the limit on the number of questions the authors could ask, respondents were only asked to rate the impact of these five technologies on the accounting field and to clarify which technologies are used. Practical implications This study’s findings confirm that the organizational intention to adopt new technology is not primarily based on the characteristics of the technology. In the case of emerging technology adoption, the decision also depends upon other factors related to the internal organization. Furthermore, although this study found no support for the effect of environmental factors, it fills a gap in the literature by including the factor of vendor support, which has received little attention in prior information technology (IT)/ information system (IS) adoption research. Moreover, in contrast to most prior adoption studies, this study elaborates on accounting professionals’ experience and perceptions in investigating the organizational adoption and use of emerging technologies. Thus, the findings of this study are valuable, providing insights from a new perspective, that of professional accountants. Social implications The study findings may serve as a guide for researchers, practitioners, firms and other stakeholders, particularly technology providers, interested in learning about emerging technologies’ adoption and use in Canada and/or in a relevant context. Contrary to most prior adoption studies, this study elaborates on accounting professionals’ experience and perceptions in investigating the organizational adoption and use of emerging technologies. Thus, the findings of this study are valuable, providing insights from a new perspective, that of professional accountants. Originality/value The study provides insights into the said technologies’ actual adoption and improves the awareness of firms and stakeholders to the effect of some constructs that influence the adoption of these emerging technologies in accounting.

Cloud-Based Accounting Information Systems and Financial Reporting Quality of Listed Information and Communication Technology Firms in Nigeria

The confluence of cloud-based Accounting Information Systems (AIS) adoption and financial reporting quality within Nigeria's Information and Communication Technology (ICT) sector is explored in this study. Given the dynamic landscape of the ICT industry characterized by technological advancements, evolving market dynamics, and regulatory shifts, ICT firms are increasingly turning to cloud-based AIS to streamline their accounting processes and adapt to changing business requirements. The population of the study consists of all eight (8) Information and Communication Technology (ICT) enterprises that are listed on the Nigerian Exchange Group as of 31st December 2022. As a result, this study delves into the impact of Cloud-Based AIS adoption on the Financial Reporting Quality of Listed ICT Firms in Nigeria over a decade-long period from 2013 to 2022. Utilizing a Panel Regression Technique (Random Effect Model), the study identifies a significant overall effect of Cloud-Based AIS on the Financial Reporting Quality of Listed ICT Firms in Nigeria. Moreover, it highlights the significant influence of Cloud Security Investment on financial reporting quality among ICT firms in Nigeria, while Cloud Expenditure Growth is found to have no statistically significant effect. The study emphasizes the need for strategic resource allocation and exploration of cost optimization opportunities, given that cloud expenditure growth may not directly impact financial reporting quality. However, the study recommends for prioritizing cloud security investments to safeguard financial data integrity, mitigate cybersecurity risks, and enhance trust in financial reporting practices, thereby bolstering investor confidence.

Farmers’ adoption and effects of three aspects of agricultural information systems in emerging economies: microanalysis of household surveys

Agricultural information systems have the potential to provide various benefits to users, especially farmers. However, it remains uncertain whether the three dimensions of agricultural information systems—system quality, information quality, and service quality—can contribute to farmers’ perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use, thus influencing their intention to adopt these systems. We have developed a research framework that combines the Technology Acceptance Model and the Delone and McLean IS Success Model to elucidate the factors shaping farmers’ adoption of agricultural information systems in Vietnam. Field survey data were collected from a sample of 570 farmers in four midlands and mountainous provinces of northern Vietnam. Structural equation modelling was employed for the analysis. The results indicate that the three aspects of agricultural information systems directly enhance farmers’ adoption intentions, or they have a positive correlation with perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use, indirectly promoting such adoption intentions. The findings of this study underscore the importance for system developers and policymakers to prioritize the creation of reliable and user-friendly agricultural information systems that can address emerging issues during farmers’ use, thereby supporting their adoption.

Role of perceived ease of use, usefulness, and financial strength on the adoption of health information systems: the moderating role of hospital size

Adoption of a health information system is always a challenge for hospitals. It is because most of the medical staff do not have enough skills to use the new technology and due to the sensitivity of medical data. These factors pose a challenge for the successful adoption of health information system in hospitals. The aim of this research is to find out the factors which influence the adoption of information systems in hospitals. The study investigated the impact of the Financial status of the Hospital; Perceived Usefulness and Perceived Ease of Use on the adoption of health information systems through a questionnaire survey. Data was collected from 602 healthcare workers from 20 hospitals through close-ended questionnaire in Pakistan, where the adoption of health information systems is very slow. PLS-SEM was used for the analysis. The findings show that the Financial status of the Hospital; Perceived Usefulness and Perceived Ease of Use have positive and significant role in the adoption of Health Information Systems. The finding also shows that hospital size moderates the relationship of Perceived ease of use and the adoption of health information systems and interestingly it does not moderate the relationship among perceived usefulness and financial strength toward the adoption of health information systems. The study concludes that perceived ease of use, perceived usefulness and financial strength are the main factors, necessary for the adoption of health information systems. The findings of the study have useful implications for policy makers, medical professionals to successfully adopt health information systems in hospitals. It also provides new avenues for researchers to explore other factors and test this framework in other countries.

Integrating supply chain risk management activities into sales and operations planning

AbstractSales and operations planning (S&OP) became a relevant managerial topic for academics and practitioners with a growing literature body and implementation cases in the industry. However, S&OP has been analysed mostly in stable environments, with few implications for uncertain environments. With the current growing pressure to deal with unexpected changes in the business environment, the integration with supply chain risk management (SCRM) activities has been considered a promising direction for the next S&OP generation. Within this context, this paper aims to advance the theoretical understanding of the interrelationship between S&OP and SCRM under different contexts and provide a practical guidance for adapting S&OP in uncertain environments. This goal is achieved by combining literature-based insights, obtained through a rigorous systematic literature review of 77 studies from academic and grey literature, with empirical insights from interviews with 15 industry experts. The research leads to a novel S&OP framework for dealing with uncertain environments. It integrates SCRM activities into S&OP, applying contingency theory as a theoretical foundation to address the context-specific nature of S&OP. Moreover, it embraces a holistic view for S&OP from an integrated people-process-IT perspective, encompassing the involved actors, the process itself and its steps, and the adopted information systems. Additionally, research findings reveal the possibility for an additional process to cope better with uncertain environments, which can run in parallel with the regular S&OP process. It is characterised by a higher planning frequency and a lower planning horizon, resulting in a closer linkage with operational planning and execution.

User Acceptance and Adoption of the Digital Management Information System by focusing on E-Learning System in Institute of Distance Education (IDE) at the University of Zambia (UNZA)

Digital transformation is conquering the world with a tremendous speed in every aspect of society and education is one important area. This fast advancement in technology is occurring in both the developed and developing societies. As a result, we see e-learning platforms extensively used and make the learning process continue in universities and education institutions almost uninterrupted, despite the restrictions of social interaction by governments during the covid-19 pandemic. The purpose of the study was to evaluate the User Acceptance and Adoption of the Digital Management Information System by focusing on E-Learning System in IDE at UNZA. The study was conducted on the students and lecturers who used the System at the IDE at UNZA. A google questionnaire was sent to the students in their groups and 271 participants answered the questionnaire successfully and this became the sample for the study. Data was analyzed using SPSS where the correlation and multi-variant Regression Analysis Model were used to help understand the data. The study found that the Social Influence (β= .657), was mostly significant in influencing User Acceptance Adoption of the System, seconded by Performance Expectancy ( and Effort Expectancy’s (. The study concludes that all the constructs are positively related to the acceptance and adoption of the E-Learning System. However, Social Influence is the most influenced factor User Acceptance Adoption of the E-Learning System at the University of Zambia when compared to the other constructs. This conclusion has added to the arguments which have found other factors like PE and EE to be factors affecting BI for the adoption of IT systems in other countries. The study recommended that the University of Zambia should link E- Learning system with the online library to assist student get the recommended resources. This can be done by adding a fee to facilitate which will help cater for the running costs while students and lecturers maximize the use of the system.

Adoption of Technology Acceptance and Interfaces for Academic Information System Applications

RESEARCH BACKGROUND. An academic information system (AIS) was built to provide convenience to students in online academic administration activities. OBJECTIVE. To find out how information system technology can be accepted by students in supporting their academic and learning activities, we measure the adoption of educational information system acceptance through TAM theory and the user interface. METHOD. Using a quantitative approach based on positivism philosophy for health polytechnic students, we use regression analysis for the construction of research variables. RESULTS. PU is the most significant predictor in driving technology adoption followed by interfaces and PEoU, it is important for higher education leaders to integrate this technology well through the design and implementation of technology that benefits students.

Understanding the challenges of blockchain technology adoption: evidence from China’s developing carbon markets

PurposeBlockchain is a disruptive technology that has matured to deliver robust, global, IT systems, yet adoption lags predictions. The authors explore barriers to adoption in the context of a global challenge with multiple stakeholders: integration of carbon markets. Going beyond the dominant economic-rationalistic paradigm of information system (IS) innovation adoption, the authors reduce pro-innovation bias and broaden inter-organizational scope by using technological frames theory to capture the cognitive framing of the challenges perceived within the world’s largest carbon emitter: China.Design/methodology/approachSemi-structured interviews with 15 key experts representing three communities in China’s carbon markets: IT experts in carbon markets; carbon market experts with conceptual knowledge of blockchain and carbon market experts with practical blockchain experience.FindingsPerceived technical challenges were found to be the least significant in explaining adoption. Significant challenges in five areas: social, political legal and policy (PLP), data, organizational and managerial (OM) and economic, with PLP and OM given most weight. Mapping to frames developed to encompass these challenges: nature of technology, strategic use of technology and technology readiness resolved frame incongruence that, in the case explored, did not lead to rejection of blockchain, but a decision to defer investment, increase the scope of analysis and delay the adoption decision.Originality/valueIncreases scope and resolution of IS adoption research. Technological frames theory moves from predominant economic-rational models to a social cognitive perspective. Broadens understanding of blockchain adoption in a context combining the world’s most carbon emissions with ownership of most blockchain patents, detailing socio-technical challenges and delivering practical guidance for policymakers and practitioners.

Measuring machinewashing under the corporate digital responsibility theory: A proposal for a methodological path

AbstractRecently, a number of scholars have warned against the risk of a new form of deliberately deceptive communication companies use to assure stakeholders of their good intentions in the adoption and development of digital technologies and advanced information systems based on artificial intelligence. This corporate behaviour, defined as machinewashing, in an attempt to empower engagement processes in the stakeholders’ network and satisfy stakeholder expectations with regard to the ethical implications of the use of artificial intelligence, has, in the final instance, the prevailing purpose of achieving better levels of corporate performance and reputation. However, thus far, scholars have not provided any empirical studies on the existence of corporate machinewashing strategies, and there is a significant lack of clarity as to how to measure machinewashing. Utilising the corporate digital responsibility theory, this paper offers an original methodological contribution to the nascent research field dedicated to machinewashing behaviour. Particularly, this paper provides considerations for detecting machinewashing through an analysis based on the comparison between the information capacity of the reporting and the information reliability level as a proxy for machinewashing strategies and, thus, for the real impact of digitalisation strategies on stakeholders. To this end, we conducted an exploratory content analysis of the reports of 10 Italian‐listed companies from 10 different industries. Overall, looking at the gap between what companies say about the impact of digitalisation from an ethical perspective, and what really happens, our results define a possible path for identifying machinewashing, the fields where it happens and the practices that companies use in order to realise these strategies.

Main Factors Affecting Successful Adoption of Management Information System in Yemen Mobile Phone Enterprises

Management Information System play significant role in the management, administration as well as operation of an organization, therefore the organizations consider it as major tool that can lead to development and continuity. Mobile phone one of the most sectors, which is aware of the usefulness of applying management information system. The objective of study is focusing on the successful adoption of management information system in mobile phone enterprises in Yemen. Thus, this study aims to reveal the main factors, which can affect successful adoption of management information systems. The field study of this research apply on mobile phone enterprises in Yemen. Through a literature review, the most common theories and models in the areas of information systems success and technology acceptance related to the study mentioned. We proposed a conceptual model based on theories in the field of technology acceptance and adoption of management information systems. The proposed study framework includes the main influencing factors: attitude toward using system, system quality, information quality, computer anxiety, job relevance and management support, an attempt to reveal the extent of the influence of these factors to overcome the restrictions that prevent the utilization of information systems, which in turn leads to improving the performance of these enterprises.

The Influence of Contingency Factors on the Adoption of Information Systems: The case of Moroccan companies

The aim of this study is to analyze the impact of structural contingency factors on the adoption of information systems, taking into account their nature and degree of complexity, as well as to assess the influence of the Covid-19 crisis on this adoption. To achieve this objective, we undertook quantitative research by interviewing a sample of 43 companies. Data were collected by means of a questionnaire, and analysis was carried out using SPSS software. The results highlight the significant influence of structural contingency factors and the Covid-19 crisis on the adoption of information systems.

Multi-Criteria Decision Analysis on the Preference of Courier Service Providers with Analytic Hierarchy Process Model

The rising interest in E-commerce has increased the reliance on courier service providers in Malaysia. However, the logistical performances of the courier service providers in Malaysia still require improvement especially in the enhancement of information system adoption as the providers are suffering from bottlenecks in some hubs and centres which affect the satisfaction of clients and the reputation of the online retailers. Online retailers place high concern in the performances of the courier service providers as their services affect the sales and revenues of the online retailers. Therefore, the goal of this study is to propose a framework to determine and rank the factors that affect the selection of courier service providers among online retailers in Malaysia with Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) model. This study found that real time notification, cost and timeliness are the three most important factors of consideration while GDEX is the highly preferred courier service provider among the online retailers. This study can serve as a guide to the courier service providers to improve based on the top factors that influence the selection of their services.

Investigating the role of Cybersecurity's perceived threats in the adoption of health information systems

Information technology is one of the most rapidly growing technologies globally. Over the last decade, its usage in healthcare has been remarkable. Over the last decade, its usage in healthcare has been remarkable. The study examines the impact of various factors as barriers to adopting the information system in healthcare. These factors are categorized into three major types: external attacks, which include phishing attacks and ransomware; employee factors, including lack of skills and the issue of information misuse; and technological factors, including complexity and vulnerability. The findings show that external attacks and technological factors are the main barriers to adopting information systems, while employee factors have no significant impact on the adoption of information systems in the healthcare industry of Pakistan. The study provides implications for healthcare policy makers, professionals and organziations regarding the successful adoption of health information system.

How the Terminator might affect the car manufacturing industry: Examining the role of pre-announcement bias for AI-based IS adoptions

The steep development of artificial intelligence (AI) is accompanied by a completely new set of challenges for information systems (IS) research and practice, especially in the area of individual-level technology adoption. In this article, we elaborate on the important role that biases play regarding the adoption of AI-based IS by individuals in a work environment and for which, in addition, an alarmingly early occurrence within the overall process can be reported. Based on an exploratory case study within three different German car manufacturers, we credit this work with a valuable threefold contribution. First, it introduces and substantiates knowledge and theory on the pre-announcement phase of individual-level IS adoption. Second, it is one of the very few works that thoroughly conceptualize and analyze the role of biases in user decision making resulting from the individuals’ cognitive limitations. And third, it indicates a notable spillover effect of experiences and opinions on AI from the users’ private lives to their professional ones, which stands in clear contrast to what usually is reported in IS research. The article thereby discusses general implications for IS theory but also elaborates on the AI-specific elements regarding IS implementations in a professional environment.

Extracting laboratory test information from paper-based reports

BackgroundIn the healthcare domain today, despite the substantial adoption of electronic health information systems, a significant proportion of medical reports still exist in paper-based formats. As a result, there is a significant demand for the digitization of information from these paper-based reports. However, the digitization of paper-based laboratory reports into a structured data format can be challenging due to their non-standard layouts, which includes various data types such as text, numeric values, reference ranges, and units. Therefore, it is crucial to develop a highly scalable and lightweight technique that can effectively identify and extract information from laboratory test reports and convert them into a structured data format for downstream tasks.MethodsWe developed an end-to-end Natural Language Processing (NLP)-based pipeline for extracting information from paper-based laboratory test reports. Our pipeline consists of two main modules: an optical character recognition (OCR) module and an information extraction (IE) module. The OCR module is applied to locate and identify text from scanned laboratory test reports using state-of-the-art OCR algorithms. The IE module is then used to extract meaningful information from the OCR results to form digitalized tables of the test reports. The IE module consists of five sub-modules, which are time detection, headline position, line normalization, Named Entity Recognition (NER) with a Conditional Random Fields (CRF)-based method, and step detection for multi-column. Finally, we evaluated the performance of the proposed pipeline on 153 laboratory test reports collected from Peking University First Hospital (PKU1).ResultsIn the OCR module, we evaluate the accuracy of text detection and recognition results at three different levels and achieved an averaged accuracy of 0.93. In the IE module, we extracted four laboratory test entities, including test item name, test result, test unit, and reference value range. The overall F1 score is 0.86 on the 153 laboratory test reports collected from PKU1. With a single CPU, the average inference time of each report is only 0.78 s.ConclusionIn this study, we developed a practical lightweight pipeline to digitalize and extract information from paper-based laboratory test reports in diverse types and with different layouts that can be adopted in real clinical environments with the lowest possible computing resources requirements. The high evaluation performance on the real-world hospital dataset validated the feasibility of the proposed pipeline.
