Ethical Considerations in Artificial Intelligence A Framework for Responsible Information Systems Development

This research aims to develop a framework that explains ethical considerations in the responsible development of Information Systems (IS) related to artificial intelligence (AI). The research method used involved a thorough literature review to identify relevant ethical principles in the context of AI and IS. Apart from that, an in-depth analysis of various existing models and frameworks was also carried out to understand ethical considerations in technology development. The result of this research is a framework consisting of a series of ethical principles that must be considered at every stage of IS development that uses AI technology. This framework considers not only the technical aspects of system development, but also relevant social, legal and cultural aspects. Through the application of this framework, IS developers can ensure that the resulting products are not only of high technical quality, but also pay attention to their impact on individuals, society and the environment. The conclusions of this research emphasize the importance of including ethical considerations as an integral part of the IS development process that uses AI to achieve the goals of socially responsible technology development.

How perceived transparency in information system development processes improves project quality in agile IT enterprises

PurposeWith the increasing agility of IT enterprises, it is crucial to identify suitable managerial strategies for controlling information system development (ISD) projects in the new agile working environments. These environments are characterized by the collaborative nature of work and the recurring nature of communication. This study aims to explore how perceived transparency in ISD processes, controlled by transparency strategies, impacts project quality.Design/methodology/approachIn collaboration with a firm that implemented a customized Scaled Agile Framework, questionnaires were distributed to employees involved in ISD projects. The goal was to understand the influence of perceived transparency in ISD processes on project quality.FindingsOur research demonstrates that perceived transparency in ISD processes enhances project quality through knowledge exchange by strengthening goodwill trust among team members. Additionally, transparency improves project quality through client feedback by strengthening competence trust of clients toward the team. Goodwill trust of clients toward the team and competence trust among team members have less impact on project quality enhancement.Originality/valueThis study reveals the nomological network among the perceived transparency, different types of trust among stakeholders, social interactions among stakeholders, and project outcomes in agile ISD environments. This nomological network has been overlooked by previous studies that biased toward top-down, interorganizational communication. It highlights that not all types of trust among stakeholders are involved in the processes through which perceived transparency influences ISD project quality in agile working environments. Additionally, it exposes the limitations of transparency strategies for controlling projects in agile IT enterprises.

Every agency needs letters, especially the Village Office because many people need them for purposes such as moving, getting married, giving birth, etc. West Kedungwuni is one of the sub-districts in Kedungwuni District, Pekalongan Regency, Central Java. Prototyping is used when developing systems. This model produces software prototypes that allow users and developers to interact during the information system development process. After completing all research stages, the system created can meet the needs stated in the problem formulation and can assist in managing incoming and outgoing mail in West Kedungwuni District by integrating the database with the Mobile application. Results: 1. Can help in managing incoming and outgoing mail in West Kedungwuni District. 2. Process of distributing incoming and outgoing letters in West Kedungwuni District.

Warehouse Management Information System Technology Review

With the rapid development of information technology, warehouse management information systems are playing an increasingly important role in modern logistics management. This paper first elaborates on the importance of warehouse management information systems and the impact of technological development on warehouse management, and then reviews the development process of warehouse management information systems. Next, it focuses on introducing the application of key technologies such as barcode technology, RFID technology, UWB high-precision positioning technology, wireless network communication technology, cloud computing technology, and big data analysis technology in warehouse management. In addition, this paper also analyzes the current problems faced by warehouse management information systems and discusses the application prospects of emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, Internet of Things, blockchain, automation, and robotics in warehouse management. Finally, it summarizes the main findings of the review and proposes insights and suggestions for the development of warehouse management information systems and future research directions.

Understanding the integration of accessibility requirements in the development process of information systems: a systematic literature review

People with disabilities (PwD) are frequently excluded from certain activities due to the lack of accessible information. In this area, information systems can help PwD by allowing access to a range of information about the accessibility of spaces, facilities, and products. There has been an increase in technologies that promote accessibility, but there are few literature studies which analyse how these technologies were developed to ensure access for all. To address this gap, this study aims to explore the integration of accessibility requirements in the processes of developing information systems. To achieve this aim, a systematic literature review was conducted using the PRISMA reporting guidelines. To conduct the review, a search was carried out for primary studies in four well-established databases—SCOPUS, Web of Science, IEEE, and ACM. A snowball search to find additional studies was also performed. Based on this, 34 papers were obtained to conduct the study. In general, the studies published on this topic are relatively recent, with healthcare and education being the two major areas where accessibility in information systems is most addressed. The integration of accessibility seems to be primarily applied during the requirement assessment and testing phases, involving potential users in the process. The results obtained within this systematic literature review raise awareness about the integration of accessibility for the success of solutions, which are oriented towards the accessible market. Additionally, the different practical and theoretical contributions can help future practitioners and technology developers establish guidelines that promote the integration of accessibility, thus achieving a more accessible and inclusive society.

Users involvement in the electronic health information systems development process in Uganda: what is missing in relation to requirements gathering and analysis

Abstract User involvement in the electronic health information systems (eHIS) development process is crucial for gathering and analysing requirements that accurately reflect user needs. This is because their involvement is linked to the gathering and analysis of requirements that align with user needs. However, several studies reveal that there is still limited user involvement during these crucial phases, leading to the development of ineffective and inefficient systems that do not reflect user needs. Thus, this study explored how users were involved in the requirements gathering and analysis phases during eHIS development, with an aim of identifying the missing elements that hindered the design of more effective and effective eHIS. A cross-sectional survey, encompassing secondary and primary users, explored their involvement in the requirements gathering, analysis and design phases, using both open-ended and close ended questionnaires. Respondents (n = 140) were purposively selected from 20 organizations in northern and central Uganda. Data were cleaned and analysed using Microsoft Excel. The findings revealed a dominant use of a top-down approach, favouring the capture of high-level requirements at the Ministry of Health level, and among implementing partners. However, less attention was given to gathering and analysing requirements from facility-level users. Even when collected, primary users reported that their opinions and recommendations were often ignored/disregarded, resulting in eHIS designs with usability-related challenges. This study underscores the critical need for active user involvement in the early stages of eHIS development to ensure alignment with user needs and work practices.

Critical success factors for DevOps adoption in information systems development

Adopting DevOps is challenging since it makes a significant paradigm shift in the Information Systems Development process. DevOps is a trending approach attached to the Agile Software Development Methodology, which facilitates adaptation to the customers' rapidly-changing requirements. It keeps one front step by introducing software operators who support the transmission between software and implementation into the software development team by confirming faster development, quality assurance, and easy maintenance of Information Systems (IS). However, software development companies reported challenges in adopting DevOps. It is critical to control those challenges while getting hold of the benefits by studying Critical Success Factors (CSF) for adopting DevOps. This study aimed to analyze the use of DevOps approach in IS developments by exploring CSFs of DevOps. A systematic literature review was applied to identify CSFs. These factors were confirmed by interviewing DevOps practitioners while identifying more frequent CSFs in the software development industry. Finally, the research presents a conceptual model for CSFs of DevOps, which is a guide to reap the DevOps benefits while reducing the hurdles for enhancing the success of IS. The conceptual model presents CSFs of DevOps by grouping them into four areas: collaborative culture, DevOps practices, proficient DevOps team, and metrics & measurement.

Design of A Web-Based Teacher Performance Evaluation System at Vocational School

This research is about the web-based evaluation of teacher performance at SMK Negeri Tabukan Utara. The method used in this research is the research and development (R&D) method. The research and development method is the steps in implementing research and development strategies that are carried out to produce certain products and to test the effectiveness of these products. The software development model used is a rational unified process (RUP). The RUP development model was chosen because this model can be adaptive and adapted to the needs of the information system development process. The RUP model is divided into four stages, namely: inception, elaboration, construction, and transition stages.

Overview of the Application of Computer-Aided Tools in Information Systems Development

Developing Information Systems (IS) using computer-aided tools (CATs) yields immense benefits realized by following a set of activities and techniques. Apart from revolutionizing IS development, another key benefit of computer-aided approach remains the improvement of the overall IS development process. While integrated CATs could be used throughout the phases of IS development life-cycle, others are only meant serve specific phases. The present paper provides a short review on the concepts in IS Development using CATs. Furthermore, the paper highlights the most prominent CATs that are widely used and how these tools fit into different phases of IS development. It also describes how using CATs paved the way to the recent trends in user-centred and end-user IS development approaches.

Assessment of Personality for Influencing Team Dynamics

Personality and team dynamics are closely related and can have a significant impact on the effectiveness of a team. Having a diverse range of personalities on a team can bring new ideas and solutions, but it can also lead to conflicts if team members have difficulty communicating or working together effectively. Personality and team dynamics play an important role in determining the effectiveness of a team. This is a literature based research to find team dynamics under different personality. The development of innovative solutions to complex problems in the field of information systems (IS) has become increasingly challenging. In order to meet these challenges, many organizations have adopted the use of cross-functional teams in their IS development process. These teams consist of both users, such as accountants and salespeople, and IS professionals, such as systems analysts and programmers. The goal of these teams is to work together effectively in order to produce successful systems. The team-building literature suggests that teams should have high levels of satisfaction with their performance, but in reality, this is not always the case. This suggests that there may be challenges in effectively implementing teams in the IS development process.

ON APPLICATION OF FRAME-BASED APPROACH FOR INFORMATION SYSTEMS DEVELOPMENT

The work is devoted to specific of frame-based approach application for information systems development. Three-layered generator provided to make the process of multi-layered infor-mation systems development more effective and robust. The results of its application in the context of building more flexible and robust, testable and maintainable software are also discussed.

Approach by modeling to generate an e-commerce web code from laravel model

The world of web is constantly evolving. Today, we no longer speak of a website but of a web application. The growing difficulty of designing web applications has given rise to solutions and tools. The framework is one of them. Providing a serious framework for development by offering strict development rules, as well as generic and out-of-the-box components, PHP laravel framework is one of them. This paper aims to present the different stages of modeling and development of an enterprise resource planning (ERP) system that will be implemented by PHP laravel by defining the main concepts involved in this information system modeling and development process. To lead and implement the end-to-end development of the said system, we apply the model-driven architecture (MDA) approach. This approach is based on atlas transformation language (ATL). The result of this paper is an Ecore file, a reliable MVC2 web model of e-commerce ERP, which will be the input file to generate the aforementioned system code. To validate this approach, we implemented a case study. The result of this work is very satisfying. Thus, we arrived to generate all necessary elements for this ERP code generation by respecting the MVC2 model and the PHP coding.

Transformation enterprise architecture method for company’s sustainable development

Enterprise architecture is used to solve these problems. These problems reflect the need for research and change in the methods of management of social systems in the organization.

Intellectual capital and team resilience capability of information system development project teams

Adversities are inherent in the information system development (ISD) process and often put projects to a halt. However, it is unclear what capabilities the team needs to resist and bounce back from adverse events. The purpose of this study is to propose that team resilience capability (TRC), containing affective, cognitive, and behavioral factors is vital for effective project performance. Further, by adopting the conservation of resource perspective, we theorize that intellectual capital, including human capital, technology capital, and political capital fosters TRC. Survey data collected from 149 ISD project teams confirmed our ideas that TRC is strongly tied with project performance and is more affected by human capital, followed by political capital and technology capital.

Fourth industrial revolution (4IR): librarians' perceptions encompass the art of thinking skill

PurposeThe world is moving toward a new industrial revolution period where digital technology has achieved unprecedented developments. The industrial revolution (IR) is a subcategory of the fourth industrial revolution (4IR). This paper aims to discuss the 4IR technologies from the perspective of librarians. It investigates the perceptions of librarians about the 4IR.Design/methodology/approachThe study was conducted in the Malaysian academic libraries. A set of eight open-ended questions were designed to investigate the challenges, barriers and business case to encompass the art of thinking skills in information technology (IT) and operational technology (OT). The participants were a group of librarians' working in the 4IR with a glimpse of the transformation toward smart libraries. Four librarians' answered the blurred line and fill the gap between life as a librarian and technology as the cutting edge of industry development.FindingsThe findings of this study on the 4IR as a global business–library industry exposed that the technological advancements and development process of information system (IS) has incorporated the most advanced and innovative technologies which have influenced librarians' perceptions, thinking skill and mindset. This study proposes IS enablers and librarians to take measures to cope with the 4IR.Originality/valueThis study is unique in the sense that it is the foremost research on 4IR from the perspective of Malaysian librarians'.

Metaclasses in UML and in Programming Languages

Design and programming are important stages of the development process of object-oriented information systems. At the design stage, a domain model is built, in which metaclasses can be used. But, as widely known, there is no direct support for metaclasses in UML. The article describes how in some cases it is possible to switch from models with metaclasses to models with regular classes. Several variants of such a transition are given. Two concepts of the metaclass are considered, which have now found application. Examples are given showing what capabilities the Python, Scala and Objective-C programming languages have for implementing such models. In addition, it analyzes how the concept of a metaclass is interpreted differently in programming languages.

Social welfare professionals willing to participate in client information system development – Results from a large cross-sectional survey

ABSTRACT Human-centered design methods should be implemented throughout the client information system (CIS) development process to understand social welfare professionals’ needs, tasks, and contexts of use. The aim of this study was to examine Finnish social welfare professionals’ experiences of participating in CIS development. A national cross-sectional web-based survey on the CIS experiences of social welfare professionals (1145 respondents) was conducted in Finland in spring 2019. This study focused on statements concerning the experiences of end users with CIS development and participation. The results are reported by professional and age groups. Half (50%) of the 1145 respondents had participated in CIS development. Half (56%) knew to whom and how to send feedback to software developers, but most (87%) indicated that changes and corrections were not made according to suggestions and quickly enough. The most preferred methods of participation were telling a person in charge of information systems development about usage problems (53%) and showing developers on site how professionals work (34%); 19% were not interested in participating. Social welfare professionals are willing to participate in CIS development, but vendors and social welfare provider organizations are underutilizing this resource. Social welfare informaticists are needed to interpret the needs of end users to software developers.

Designing Human-Centered 3D Gis Interface and Interaction Model to Support Agriculture Commodity Selection

The purpose of this study is to design an interface and an interaction model using user-centered Design approach. The model-built first aim is to assist the development process of a 3-dimensional geographic information system (3D GIS). The second aim is to ensure that the system that is built meets the needs of the user. GIS has been applied in various fields. In the agriculture field, GIS is often used to assist land evaluation and commodity selection. 3D GIS can provide map visualizations that are similar to actual earth topography. This advantage can minimize the user's cognitive load when using the map. Developing 3D GIS requires more complex components than 2D GIS. This study proposes an interface and interaction model for 3D GIS in scope of agricultural commodities selections. This study has five main stages. The first stage is software requirements Analisys. The second stage is data and content analysis. At this stage, data analysis is carried out to then build a data model to manage geocontent. The third stage is User Interface design. At this stage, an interface model is created as guidelines to arrange the 3D map layout. The fourth stage is the development of the interaction model to analysis of potential user actions and feedback of the system. The last stage is prototype development and evaluation. The prototype is evaluated by involving farmers to measure the adequacy of the data. A heuristic evaluation focused on eight statements was carried out. Based on the evaluation process, in general, most users agree with the statements made. It means that the model built meets the needs of the user. This model is expected to make it easier for software developers to build 3D GIS and ensure the farmer’s need in the sistems are meets. It’s hoped that combining visual elements and interaction can increase the usability level of 3D GIS

A design-based pedagogical framework for developing computational thinking skills

ABSTRACT Despite of advances in computational methods for a variety of real-world problems, there is a lack of holistic educational approaches for developing Computational Thinking (CT) skills of students. The CT skills develop students’ ability to design and implement solutions using information systems development process. This paper describes how a soft computing-based multi-faceted modelling approach for solving the interdisciplinary problem of community detection in social networks can be used for developing CT skills among students. We use Design Science Research (DSR) process to design the proposed educational framework. The proposed educational framework has been implemented using R programming environment. Evaluation and feedback of students who undertook a couple of sessions establish the viability of the proposed educational framework.
