Information Geometry Theoretic Measures for Characterizing Neural Information Processing from Simulated EEG Signals.

In this work, we explore information geometry theoretic measures for characterizing neural information processing from EEG signals simulated by stochastic nonlinear coupled oscillator models for both healthy subjects and Alzheimer's disease (AD) patients with both eyes-closed and eyes-open conditions. In particular, we employ information rates to quantify the time evolution of probability density functions of simulated EEG signals, and employ causal information rates to quantify one signal's instantaneous influence on another signal's information rate. These two measures help us find significant and interesting distinctions between healthy subjects and AD patients when they open or close their eyes. These distinctions may be further related to differences in neural information processing activities of the corresponding brain regions, and to differences in connectivities among these brain regions. Our results show that information rate and causal information rate are superior to their more traditional or established information-theoretic counterparts, i.e., differential entropy and transfer entropy, respectively. Since these novel, information geometry theoretic measures can be applied to experimental EEG signals in a model-free manner, and they are capable of quantifying non-stationary time-varying effects, nonlinearity, and non-Gaussian stochasticity presented in real-world EEG signals, we believe that they can form an important and powerful tool-set for both understanding neural information processing in the brain and the diagnosis of neurological disorders, such as Alzheimer's disease as presented in this work.

Developing the Contribution of Information Processing Activities in Forming Persuasion

Research on persuasion or attitude change has been approached through singleprocess models. The focus of this research is to explain more clearly that persuasion only occurs through a process that is directly caused by social influence. However, the use of this approach produced contradictory results. On the one hand, social influence increases persuasion, but other research finds the opposite. This article discusses the possibility of using a dual-process model approach, which is expected to address the inconsistency of social influence on persuasion in single-process models. Dual process models are proposed to be able to provide new explanations regarding the possibility of multiple effects of social influence variables on persuasion by including information processing activity variables. Through the dual process model approach, it is possible to explain that a certain effect can be caused by different processes and that a certain variable can work differently and in different situations. Social influence has different mechanisms for determining persuasion, which can act as a simple cue when the thinking level is low and can have more than one role (multiple roles) when information processing activities are at a high thinking level. Time-Course Responses of Apple Leaf Endophytes to the Infection of Gymnosporangium yamadae.

Apple rust, caused by Gymnosporangium yamadae, poses a significant challenge to apple production. Prior studies have underscored the pivotal role played by endophytic microbial communities, intimately linked with the host, in influencing plant diseases and their pathogenic outcomes. The objective of this study is to scrutinize alternations in endophytic microbial communities within apple leaves at different stages of apple rust using high-throughput sequencing technology. The findings revealed a discernible pattern characterized by an initial increase and subsequent decrease in the alpha diversity of microbial communities in diseased leaves. A microbial co-occurrence network analysis revealed that the complexity of the bacterial community in diseased leaves diminished initially and then rebounded during the progression of the disease. Additionally, employing the PICRUSt2 platform, this study provided preliminary insights into the functions of microbial communities at specific disease timepoints. During the spermogonial stage, endophytic bacteria particularly exhibited heightened activity in genetic information processing, metabolism, and environmental information processing pathways. Endophytic fungi also significantly enriched a large number of metabolic pathways during the spermogonial stage and aecial stage, exhibiting abnormally active life activities. These findings establish a foundation for comprehending the role of host endophytes in the interaction between pathogens and hosts. Furthermore, they offer valuable insights for the development and exploitation of plant endophytic resources, thereby contributing to enhanced strategies for managing apple rust.

An intelligent Fusion Framework for Risk Assessment of Autonomous Ship through Functional Mapping Criterion Sub-Intervals into Single Interval Method

Nowadays, intelligent information technology can implement high-level information processing and decision-making activities that can support risk assessment of autonomous. Risk assessment is a critical process for deploying autonomous ships, ensuring these innovative vessels' safe and efficient operation. There is a need to identify, analyze, and mitigate potential risks associated with system reliability, collision avoidance, cybersecurity, environmental conditions, human interaction, regulatory compliance, sensor performance, data integrity, emergency response, and testing and validation. This work provides an overview of the essential considerations and objectives of risk assessment in autonomous boats. We used the multi-criteria decision-making model to deal with various criteria. The Ranking of Alternatives through Functional Mapping Criterion Sub-Intervals into Single Interval (RAFSI) method is applied to rank the alternatives. We used the ten criteria and twenty options in this study. The results show that the proposed framework can provide a comprehensive risk assessment framework that can enable stakeholders to gain insights into potential hazards and vulnerabilities unique to autonomous ships.

Introduction. The article is devoted to the consideration of the concept of artificial intelligence (AI) and the philosophy of AI. It is indicated that artificial intelligence has become one of the basic technologies that contributed to the onset of the fourth industrial revolution and is indispensable in solving problems related to the processing of large amounts of information. It is noted that the introduction of artificial intelligence will not replace the work of a person to assess the situation and make decisions, but will significantly facilitate information processing activities. This is especially important in the field of security in general and in the field of information security, in particular. Purpose of the work. Analysis of various approaches that allow you to describe the content of the philosophy of artificial intelligence and the features of information processing using AI. Materials and methods. The study used general scientific and special methods of scientific knowledge – analysis, generalization, formalization of data, which were based on the general provisions of the theory of analysis. Results. The work carried out a classification of artificial intelligence in technological directions, analyzed the general concept of artificial intelligence, including three conditional levels of the intellectuality of the machine, and examples for each of the levels. The article also considers the types of experiments and tests that allow you to assess the quality of analysis carried out by artificial intelligence and how AI perceives the world around it. This allows us to identify the new philosophies of various levels and types of artificial intelligence. Also in article, a comparison of artificial neural networks and biological neural networks of the human brain is carried out. In addition, the article analyzed the main types of machine learning and their influence on the philosophy of artificial intelligence. Conclusion. The use of artificial intelligence will solve many computing problems facing humanity. However, it is absolutely necessary to monitor the development of AI philosophy in order to avoid negative trends and ensure the safety of its use. 인공지능(AI)을 활용한 건축디자인 정보처리 모델에 관한 연구

Recently, there is a lot of discussion in the architectural world about the impact that artificial intelligence image generation models will have on architectural design. Artificial intelligence uses information processing theory to analyze and model human cognitive abilities. According to information processing theory, architectural design is an information processing activity that establishes reasonable concepts to solve spatial problems and processes visual and conceptual information that corresponds to them. In this study, the five information processing processes of Akin's (1986) information processing model, DIPS (design information processing system), 'Information acquisition', 'Information representation', 'Information projection', 'Information confirmation', and 'Regulation of control'. The characteristics of architectural design thinking types, ‘convergent thinking’, ‘divergent thinking’, and ‘analogical thinking’ were examined. Through this, I identified the characteristics of representative design-related artificial intelligence NLP, GAN, and DNN and proposed an architectural design information processing model using artificial intelligence. The purpose of this paper is to examine the architectural design information processing model and compare the characteristics of the thinking style that occurs in the process with the characteristics of the artificial intelligence model to analyze the possibility of using artificial intelligence in architectural design and to provide architectural design information using artificial intelligence. The goal is to propose a processing model.

Medical Information Protection in Internet Hospital Apps in China: Scale Development and Content Analysis.

Hospital apps are increasingly being adopted in many countries, especially since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. Web-based hospitals can provide valuable medical services and enhanced accessibility. However, increasing concerns about personal information (PI) and strict legal compliance requirements necessitate privacy assessments for these platforms. Guided by the theory of contextual integrity, this study investigates the regulatory compliance of privacy policies for internet hospital apps in the mainland of China. In this paper, we aim to evaluate the regulatory compliance of privacy policies of internet hospital apps in the mainland of China and offer recommendations for improvement. We obtained 59 internet hospital apps on November 7, 2023, and reviewed 52 privacy policies available between November 8 and 23, 2023. We developed a 3-level indicator scale based on the information processing activities, as stipulated in relevant regulations. The scale comprised 7 level-1 indicators, 26 level-2 indicators, and 70 level-3 indicators. The mean compliance score of the 52 assessed apps was 73/100 (SD 22.4%), revealing a varied spectrum of compliance. Sensitive PI protection compliance (mean 73.9%, SD 24.2%) lagged behind general PI protection (mean 90.4%, SD 14.7%), with only 12 apps requiring separate consent for processing sensitive PI (mean 73.9%, SD 24.2%). Although most apps (n=41, 79%) committed to supervising subcontractors, only a quarter (n=13, 25%) required users' explicit consent for subcontracting activities. Concerning PI storage security (mean 71.2%, SD 29.3%) and incident management (mean 71.8%, SD 36.6%), half of the assessed apps (n=27, 52%) committed to bear corresponding legal responsibility, whereas fewer than half (n=24, 46%) specified the security level obtained. Most privacy policies stated the PI retention period (n=40, 77%) and instances of PI deletion or anonymization (n=41, 79%), but fewer (n=20, 38.5%) committed to prompt third-party PI deletion. Most apps delineated various individual rights, but only a fraction addressed the rights to obtain copies (n=22, 42%) or to refuse advertisement based on automated decision-making (n=13, 25%). Significant deficiencies remained in regular compliance audits (mean 11.5%, SD 37.8%), impact assessments (mean 13.5%, SD 15.2%), and PI officer disclosure (mean 48.1%, SD 49.3%). Our analysis revealed both strengths and significant shortcomings in the compliance of internet hospital apps' privacy policies with relevant regulations. As China continues to implement internet hospital apps, it should ensure the informed consent of users for PI processing activities, enhance compliance levels of relevant privacy policies, and fortify PI protection enforcement across the information processing stages.

Team Readiness to Change: Reflexivity, Tenure, and Vision in Play

How can teams make sense of a complex organizational transformation and be ready to change? These questions must be addressed as organizations turn towards team-based structures to become more reactive. During organizational transformations, we argue team reflexivity enables team members to share interpretations of changes, leading to the development of team change vision—the overarching sense of direction for simultaneous change initiatives. We further argue that team reflexivity is more effective for teams with greater team tenure dispersion and additive team tenure. We tested and found support for our theory using time-lagged, survey-based data from 70 teams at a Canadian governmental organization. Overall, our study contributes to team readiness to change literature by identifying team reflexivity as a central information-processing activity enabling teams to develop a team change vision during an organizational transformation and by clarifying the effect of team tenure on such activity.

A design evaluation tool for older adults using domestic information processing appliances

Domestic information processing appliances include embedded digital technologies with which users interact. The designs of such appliances tend to be technology oriented and not well-suited to the needs of older adults. This is problematic because these appliances are essential in many activities of daily living and so affect the ability of people to live independently. This paper introduces a coding scheme for the analysis of users' interactions with such appliances and uses it to inform recommendations for the design of operational interfaces and associated instructional materials. The efficacy of the coding scheme as a design evaluation tool is illustrated by its application in a microwave oven case study. The coding scheme considers four aspects of users' interactions with this type of device: information processing activities, including the gathering and interpretation of information from the appliance, its user manual and cooking instructions from food packaging; interactions with the device's user interface; concurrent verbalisation supporting problem-solving; and impediments to the user's workflow.

The Influence of Communication Messages on Adoption of Contagious Bovine Pleuropneumonia (CBPP) Vaccine among Arid and Semi-Arid Lands (ASAL) Pastoralists in Kenya

Purpose: The purpose was to establish influence of communication messages on adoption of Contagious Bovine Pleuropneumonia (CBPP) Vaccine among Arid and Semi-Arid Lands (ASAL) pastoralists in Kenya. Messages were studied under parameters of inoculation site, benefits, required frequency of vaccination and side effects. The focus on the vaccine messaging was informed by the slow pace of adoption of live T1 vaccines currently being used to eradicate CBPP in Kenya. Diffusion of innovation and social learning theories were used to support the study.
 Methodology: Study population were pastoralists in Narok South Sub County. 468 respondents inclusive of qualitative and quantitative samples where 440 responded to questionnaire, 24 in focus group discussions, and 4 in key informant interviews participated. Multi stage, purposive, simple random, systematic and stratified sampling techniques were then employed to come up with respondents. Statistical Package for Social Scientists (SPSS) version 20.0 was used to analyze data, which was presented using regression coefficients and ANOVA.
 Findings: CBPP messaging influenced respondents to vaccinate although some had more influence than others. Messages on inoculation site, benefits, required frequency of vaccination side effects and communal vaccinations were important for the survival of their cattle and significantly influenced the decisions of respondents to vaccinate against the disease. Moreover, messages helped them to know important information details such as vaccination venues, and costs of vaccination and availability of the veterinary officers. CBPP vaccine messages attributes were key in the success of influencing respondents. However, the messaging ran into already held misinformation by some pastoralists confirming earlier study that vaccination rate was at 20-60% because some skipped the exercise.
 Unique Contribution to Theory, Practice and Policy: CBPP vaccine messages and attributes significantly influenced CBPP vaccinations decisions among pastoralists. This study validated diffusion of innovation and social learning theories that innovation-decision process is essentially an information seeking and processing activity in which an individual is motivated to reduce uncertainty about the advantages and disadvantages of the innovation. For policy and practice, this study recommends development of communication plans, and packaging of CBPP vaccine messages for dissemination in the ASALs where disease is prevalent. Considering that CBPP is a trans-boundary disease, these plans and messages could be harmonized across ASAL counties to enable consistency and coherence.

In this study, an online map of tourist objects was created with Google My Maps with sample data, namely tourist objects in Pacitan Regency. The results of this study are an online map of tourist objects in Pacitan Regency which can be used as a promotional medium in accordance with current technological advances, and also with this Online Map it is hoped that it can increase the number of tourist visits to Pacitan Regency which will increase local revenue. from the tourism sector

НАЦІОНАЛЬНІ ІНТЕРЕСИ В УМОВАХ ІНФОРМАЦІЙНОЇ ЕКОНОМІКИ: РЕГІОНАЛЬНІ КЛАСТЕРИ ТА МЕРЕЖІ ЕКОЛОГІЧНОЇ ПІДТРИМКИ

In the minds of scientific and technological progress, information economy and globalization processes, economic, environmental and social officials who form the steel development of the country are gaining more and more importance. In 2015, the summit of the Organization of Nations was held at the hour of the 70th session of the General Assembly, for which 17 goals were assigned to the development. Ukraine, in its turn, has reached the light process of steel development, even before these goals to ensure stable economic growth, correct social inequality, innovative development and environmental safety. However, the effective achievement of the goals of sustainable development is not possible without a change in national economic interests and a transition to a renewable and circular economy within the framework of the information economy model. The article examines the concepts of informational "economy", "circular economy" and "clusters". The main characteristics of the information economy have been formed, such as: symbiosis and integration of technologies, the spread of the influence of information technologies on economic activity, and the increase in the use of information technology networks in economic institutions. The functions and principles of the information economy are defined. The basic model of the circular economy is outlined and its basic principles are given. The prerequisites for the emergence of the information economy were systematized, including: globalization of the economy, the transition from material production to information processing activities, fundamental transformations in the organization of production and economic activity, informatization. The ecological cluster and the result of its relationship with the eco-city were studied. The sphere of ecological clusters, or as it is also called "green economy", includes any economic activity that further leads to a decrease in ecological pressure on the environment as a result of human and business activities. Such economic activity is based on results that increase the efficiency of the use of natural resources and reduce harmful emissions into the environment. The basic components of the Japanese experience of environmental support have been formed at the expense of ecological clusters.

The Role of the Hippocampus in Detecting the Novelty of Impressions: A Literature Review

The article presents a review of modern studies of the hippocampus’s functions in the implementation of cognitive phenomena, a review which covers a wide range of experimental areas, including high-precision brain morphometry, functional neuroimaging, electroencephalography, deep navigational electrode implantation, and dosed radiation effects on the brain. Literary sources demonstrate the involvement of the hippocampus in almost all spheres and aspects of human mental activity, from memory to eye movements, from circadian rhythms to spatial navigation. The literature review allows us to generalize the results of many works and to speak about the basic characteristic of the hippocampus’s functional activity in information processing: that the hippocampus is a comparator which continuously marks impressions of the current experience according to the degree of novelty. The authors see such a functional analysis as much more productive than attempts to correspond brain structures with mental processes (perception, memory, attention) and, accordingly, than the customary discussion in the scientific literature of the hippocampus functioning mainly as a brain substrate of memory

Mindfulness Practice with a Brain-Sensing Device Improved Cognitive Functioning of Elementary School Children: An Exploratory Pilot Study.

This is the first pilot study with children that has assessed the effects of a brain–computer interface-assisted mindfulness program on neural mechanisms and associated cognitive performance. The participants were 31 children aged 9–10 years who were randomly assigned to either an eight-session mindfulness training with EEG-feedback or a passive control group. Mindfulness-related brain activity was measured during the training, while cognitive tests and resting-state brain activity were measured pre- and post-test. The within-group measurement of calm/focused brain states and mind-wandering revealed a significant linear change. Significant positive changes were detected in children’s inhibition, information processing, and resting-state brain activity (alpha, theta) compared to the control group. Elevated baseline alpha activity was associated with less reactivity in reaction time on a cognitive test. Our exploratory findings show some preliminary support for a potential executive function-enhancing effect of mindfulness supplemented with EEG-feedback, which may have some important implications for children’s self-regulated learning and academic achievement.

Managing information asymmetry in public–private relationships undergoing a digital transformation: the role of contractual and relational governance

PurposeInter-organisational governance is an important enabler for information processing, particularly in relationships undergoing digital transformation (DT) where partners depend on each other for information in decision-making. Based on information processing theory (IPT), the authors theoretically and empirically investigate how governance mechanisms address information asymmetry (uncertainty and equivocality) arising in capturing, sharing and interpreting information generated by digital technologies.Design/methodology/approachIPT is applied to four cases of public–private relationships in the Dutch infrastructure sector that aim to enhance the quantity and quality of information-based decision-making by implementing digital technologies. The investigated relationships are characterised by differing degrees and types of information uncertainty and equivocality. The authors build on rich data sets including archival data, observations, contract documents and interviews.FindingsAddressing information uncertainty requires invoking contractual control and coordination. Contract clauses should be precise and incentive schemes functional in terms of information requirements. Information equivocality is best addressed by using relational governance. Identifying information requirements and reducing information uncertainty are a prerequisite for the transformation activities that organisations perform to reduce information equivocality.Practical implicationsThe study offers insights into the roles of both governance mechanisms in managing information asymmetry in public–private relationships. The study uncovers key activities for gathering, sharing and transforming information when using digital technologies.Originality/valueThis study draws on IPT to study public–private relationships undergoing DT. The study links contractual control and coordination as well as relational governance mechanisms to information-processing activities that organisations deploy to reduce information uncertainty and equivocality.

Neural Efficiency and Ability to Produce Accurate Efforts in Different Perceived Intensity Zones.

This study aimed to investigate the relationship between neural efficiency and the ability of an athlete to produce accurate efforts in different perceived intensity zones during a racing scenario. The α/β ratio was used to quantify the neural efficiency during cycling, as it traduced the degree of participants information processing activity with lower cortical activity possible. Twelve trained competitive male cyclists delimited their perceived intensity zones 2 to 6 on a scale to assess the rating of exercise intensity. Then, they performed a 30min racing scenario during which they had to produce different perceived intensities. The ability of athletes to produce perceived effort with accuracy and their neural efficiency was quantified during the racing scenario. The increase in the neural efficiency with the increase in the effort intensity could partly explain the improvement in athletes' ability to produce accurately perceived efforts from intensity zones 3 to 6. Moreover, the neural efficiency during the racing scenario was significantly correlated to the ability to produce perceived effort with accuracy at submaximal intensities.

Current Status and Improvement Plan of Programming Education for Electronics Engineering

In the Fourth Industrial Revolution and the foundation of software and hardware technologies through ICT, the technology to analyze the principles of information processing activities is the ability to implement programming. In this study, to improve the programming academic performance of electronics majors, firstly, we presented an effective teaching method in order to promote employment in the programming field by improving problem-solving skills and logical thinking skills in the programming field that electronics majors do not prefer. Secondly, we plan to promote intelligence informatization by converging intelligence information technology into the existing electronics industry by developing software utilization skills through programming curriculum that reflects the specificity and reality of electronics. Lastly, as computer programmers, we would like to expand creative talent education by developing learners' capabilities to cultivate smart talents who have both hardware and software capabilities.
