The mechanism for ensuring information security of individuals

The article examines the mechanism of ensuring information security of individuals. The author emphasizes that there is a tendency in legislation to presume information security. This is one of the legal means to ensure information security and protect the rights of information owners. This presumption performs several important functions: it ensures the legality of actions with information, guarantees the fact of information security, protects the rights of participants in information legal relations, and allows to assess the significance and value of information. Users of information subject to the presumption of information security assess its significance on the basis of law or contract. The study of the mechanism for ensuring information security of individuals requires taking into account three key components: technical means of protection, legal regulation and educational component. Each of these elements plays an important role in creating a reliable system for protecting personal data from threats in the digital environment. Modern technical means of protection, legal regulation, and the role of education in raising public awareness of information security are studied. The effectiveness of various personal data protection measures and their impact on the formation of a security culture in society are analyzed. The key conclusions of the study are that the introduction of modern technological solutions significantly reduces the risks associated with cyberattacks; the existence of clear legal norms and control mechanisms ensures the protection of individuals’ rights to information security; raising public awareness of the basics of information security creates a culture of security in society. Opportunities for further development in this area may include the following: the introduction of new methods of data protection, taking into account modern threats in cyberspace; expanding research in the field of legal regulation to adapt legislation to changing conditions; improving training programs for various groups of the population with an emphasis on the practical aspects of information security. The article also identifies unresolved issues in this area and offers recommendations for further development of information security mechanisms.

Amplifying angels: Evidence from the INVEST program

This paper shows that angel investor grants encourage new investors to enter the risk finance market, where they syndicate investments with other investors. We argue that this results from the high cost of information acquisition for new investors. New investors bring additional capital into the market but provide little managerial support. However, as these investors join syndicates, ventures can raise larger financing amounts without compromising managerial support. Taken together, these factors positively affect the performance of entrepreneurial ventures. To test our hypotheses, we consider the case of Germany, where the federal government has introduced an investment grant for angel investors. Combining applicant data from the subsidy program with company and ownership information on the quasi-universe of German companies and a large-scale company-level panel survey covering over 900 angel-financed ventures to empirically assess our hypotheses provides strong support for our predictions.

A dataset of venture capitalist types in China (1978–2021): A machine-human hybrid approach

Despite escalating interest in distinguishing among various types of venture capitalists (VCs) and their roles in shaping entrepreneurship and innovation, such research remains sparse in the world’s second-largest VC market, i.e., China. To address this important gap, we have devised a machine-human hybrid approach to perform the classification task for VC types. Specifically, we have compiled a list of 49,187 VCs that made investments in China before 2021 from CVSource database, collected VC ownership information from other public sources, developed machine-learning algorithms to predict VC types, and used human coders when machine-learning failed to produce a prediction. Utilizing this hybrid approach, we have classified VCs into one of the following types: GVC (public agency-affiliated, state-owned enterprise-affiliated), CVC (corporate VC), IVC (independent VC), BVC (bank-affiliated VC), FVC (financial/non-bank-affiliated VC), UVC (university-affiliated VC), and PenVC (pension-fund-affiliated VC). We not only provide the most up-to-date database for VC types in the Chinese setting but also demonstrate how to leverage machine-learning algorithms to devise a transparent coding approach for VC-type classifications.

Secured Blockchain framework using deep learning to reduce the service latency in a 5G based distributed networking environment

The Internet of Things (IoT), which is also represented as Internet of Health Things (IoHT), has witnessed numerous progresses in recent existences, particularly in the management of healthcare-related data. Because those healthcare statistics ensure greater accuracy, security with improvedreliability, and higher data feature, supplying those data to those healthcare apps is a time-consuming difficulty this organisation is facing. To developstatisticsestablishing, data must be more secure and privacy-protected, as deep learning and privacy policies are enabled with 5G network. If the information is private, the information owner may be able to learn about it. The data process flow associated with IoHT is now connected to a variety of IoT devices as edge nodes, thanks to recent advancements. Learning at the nodes is more difficult because of the issue of a missing or insufficient amount of training data, which necessitates a completely distributed setting, as well as new, better datasets, their establishing, and their security. In this work, a Hy-FL-based Blockchain strategy is proposed since it is enabled with blockchain, which maintains trust ability and skilled data based on deep learning with enhanced validation. With the help of the suggested method, training information on the deep nodes can be encrypted and aggregated. In the analysis, data management is managed securely based on IoHT in terms of projected value, energy usage, and data correctness.

Association Between Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) and Women's Attitudes Toward Intimate Partner Violence: Evidence from Bangladesh Demographic and Health Survey 2017-2018.

Many women justify intimate partner violence (IPV), resulting in adverse health outcomes. This study investigates the relationship between household ownership of information and communication technologies (ICTs), along with the frequency of listening to the radio and watching television with women's attitudes towards IPV in Bangladesh. The cross-sectional study analyzed a weighted sample of 20,032 women and used a multivariable logistic regression analysis to determine the association between predictor variables and outcome variables. The results showed that 19.47% of women justified wife beating for at least one reason. We found that household ownership of computers (AOR = 0.73 [95% CI = 0.57, 0.95]), women in households with three ICTs (AOR = 0.67 [95% CI = 0.47, 0.96]), and women who watched television at least once a week (AOR = 0.85 [95% CI = 0.74, 0.97]) were associated with decreased odds of justifying wife beating for at least one reason after adjustment for the frequency of reading newspaper or magazine, age, wealth, education, religion, and type of place of residence. The study suggests that not all ICTs affect women's attitudes toward IPV equally. Computers and television were more influential than other ICTs. This finding suggests that awareness-building and educational programs targeted towards women via computer and television may deliver better outcomes about gender norms.

A Method for Quantifying Global Network Topology Based on a Mathematical Model

To facilitate a direct comparison of the differences in network resources among countries worldwide, this paper proposes a method for quantifying the relationship between autonomous systems and territorial networks from the perspective of network topology. Using global router-level network topology data as the foundational data for the network resources of various countries, we abstract the dual mapping information of router geographic distribution and operational ownership into a matrix-form mathematical model. By employing relevant indicators from both network scale and border connectivity, we compare matrix model data from different periods to quantitatively assess changes in the network structures of countries globally. The study results show that internet resources are concentrated in the United States, which owns 38.04% of the global routers, distributed across 87.88% of the countries, significantly impacting the global network. Compared to the average quantitative indicators of each country, 67.00% of the countries exhibit higher deployment consistency, 37.30% show higher border connection consistency, 23.81% perform prominently in terms of impact, and 46.20% have outstanding border node degrees. From a continental perspective, the analysis indicates that Asian and African countries have a closer relationship between AS and territorial networks, while Europe’s connections are relatively sparse. Over time, we observe a slight decline in deployment consistency in Asia, Africa, and Europe, a slight increase in border connection consistency in Asia, Africa, and North America, and enhanced impact in Asia, Africa, Europe, and South America. These trends suggest that the integration between AS and territorial networks is intensifying in most countries.

INFORMATION SPHERE OF A COMMERCIAL ENTERPRISE IN THE LIGHT OF THE INFORMATION SECURITY DOCTRINE OF THE RUSSIAN FEDERATION OF 2016

The purpose of the research. The article considers the admissibility of the category of information sphere in relation to the subject of economic activity from the point of view of the information security doctrine of the Russian Federation. The substantiation of the prospect of forming the information sphere of an economic entity as a single object that unites its elements connected with a single purpose is presented. The purpose of the study is to substantiate the need and admissibility of considering the information sphere of a business entity as a construct that allows the owner of information to increase the protection of its rights. Results. The author concludes that the category of information sphere, if sufficiently elaborated, can be eventually introduced into circulation as an object that unites the elements of the information sphere that perform a single task and are technologically connected. The introduction of such an object into civil turnover is possible at the initial stage by means of clarifications of the highest judicial instance. The prospect of putting the information sphere into circulation will be made based on the results of an in-depth study of its elements, as well as the nature and features of the links between such elements, primarily within the system. Acquisition of the information sphere to the status of an object of civil rights will depend on the qualification of its elements as objects of civil rights. The speed of increasing relevance and the need to determine the legal status of the information sphere will depend on the rate of increase in the number of economic entities actively using digital technologies.

IoT-GChain: Internet of Things-Assisted Secure and Tractable Grain Supply Chain Framework Leveraging Blockchain

The grain supply chain is crucial for any nation’s self-sustainability due to its huge impact on food security, economic stability, and the livelihoods of several people. The path grain takes from farmers to consumers is opaque and complicated, due to which consumers cannot trust grain quality and its origin. Although blockchain is widely used for fair and secure transactions between farmers and buyers, issues related to transparency and traceability in the grain supply chain, such as counterfeiting and middlemen involvement, have not been adequately addressed. To tackle these issues, a blockchain-based solution is proposed that unites farmers, warehouses, government central and state agencies, transporters, and food corporations on a single platform to enhance transparency, traceability, and trust among all parties. This system involves minting a non-fungible token (NFT) corresponding to each lot of grain approved by government officials. The NFT comprises grain quality, type, temperature data from sensors, weight, and ownership information, which updates as the grain lot moves across the supply chain from central agencies to state agencies and so on. NFTs enable stakeholders to track the grain lot from cultivation to end-users, providing insights into grain conditions and quality. An Internet of Things-based circuit is designed using a Digital-output relative humidity & temperature (DHT22) sensor, which offers real-time temperature and humidity readings, and geolocation coordinates are gathered from the GPS module across the supply chain. Farmers can directly interact with warehouses to sell grains, eliminating the need for middlemen and fostering trust among all parties. The proposed four-tier framework is implemented and deployed on the Ethereum network, with smart contracts interacting with React-based web pages. Analysis and results of the proposed model illustrate that it is viable, secure, and superior to the existing grain supply chain system.

Mapping Corporate Investments Between China and Europe in an Era of Geoeconomic Competition

AbstractThe consolidation of geoeconomic competition puts core aspects of global economic interdependence, such as the mutual China‐EU investment relationship, under increased pressure. Headlines about ‘derisking’, ‘decoupling’ or ‘deglobalization’ dominate current debates but tend to be overly simplistic. To push the debate on China‐EU economic relations forward, we provide an empirically driven account of the first phase of the global geoeconomic turn between 2009 and 2021. By triangulating country‐level FDI data, firm‐level ownership information and firm‐level surveys, we find indications of geopolitical hedging by European and Chinese firms, but no clear move towards decoupling or deglobalization. Based on our findings, we advocate for an approach that takes the complexity of state‐firm interactions in global economic relations seriously and integrates different data sources and levels of analysis. With this, we hope to contribute to a more realistic and fine‐grained approach to the important question of China‐EU relations in the 21st century.

Association between foreign agricultural investments and adoption of soil and water conservation practices in Uganda

ObjectivesRecently, some developing countries are promoting foreign agricultural investments in Agriculture to exploit currently under-exploited land. Yet, the benefits to recipient countries remains less understood and inconclusive. The study sought to understand the association between proximity to a foreign agricultural investments (FAI) and adoption of soil and water conservation farming methods by smallholder farmers in Uganda.MethodologyWe used cross-sectional data collected from a total of 1,181 smallholder respondents, sampled through a multi-stage random sampling process resulting in three independent samples from South-western, Central and Northern Uganda. Using logistic regression analysis and pooled data, we study the association between proximity to a FAI and other factors that influence the adoption of soil and water conservation farming practices by smallholder farmers in Uganda.ResultsDescriptive results show that at the aggregate level proximity to a FAI, the education level of the farmer and ownership of information and communication assets (radio and mobile phone) are significantly different between adopter and non-adopters of soil and water conservation farming methods in the research area. The econometric findings of the study suggest that proximity to a foreign agricultural investments (FAI) has weak but significant spillovers on soil and water conservation farming practices of smallholder farmers it their vicinity with possible site specific variations that warrant more in-depth investigation. The effect of proximity to FAI on the adoption of soil and water conservation farming practices is complemented by the education level of the farmer and access to means of communication (radio, and in particular mobile phone set) indicating the importance of information and also broader socio-economic conditions.RecommendationWe recommend policies that enhance increased exposure of smallholder farmers to FAI especially those that help promote rural digital penetration through increased band width, FM radios and affordable data packages.

Earnings management in the family business groups of Pakistan: the role of corporate governance

PurposeThis paper aims to examine the role of corporate governance (CG) in the earnings management (EM) of affiliated companies in family business groups (FBGs) listed on the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX), using principal–principal agency theory.Design/methodology/approachThe sample of 327 nonfinancial firms of the PSX, consisting of 187 group-affiliated firms and 140 nonaffiliated firms has been used in this study for the period of 2010 to 2019. The study uses different regression models for analysis, with robustness tests of various alternative measures of EM and FBG affiliation. In addition, endogeneity is controlled with the propensity score matching method.FindingsThe findings show that EM is less prevalent in affiliated firms compared to nonaffiliated companies. The results show a negative and significant relationship between FBGs affiliated firms and EM. Moreover, the results also show a positive relationship between EM and the interaction term of the CG index and group affiliation. It refers to the fact that effective governance cannot reduce EM in affiliated companies of FBGs as well as in the nonfinancial companies of the PSX. In addition, the quality of CG is higher in affiliated companies compared to its counterpart in nonaffiliated firms. The findings support the principal–principal agency theory that CG cannot mitigate the expropriating behavior of controlling shareholders against minority shareholders by reducing EM in emerging markets due to the ownership concentration phenomenon.Research limitations/implicationsThis research study has implications for small investors, government agencies and regulators. The findings of the study show that CG code should make it mandatory for companies to reveal information about their complex ownership structure and ownership information about affiliated companies and directors. Furthermore, it is suggested to revisit the code of CG in the Pakistani context of principal–principal conflict instead of the agent–principal explanation of agency theory based on Anglo–Saxon countries.Originality/valueThis research study has contributed to the CG and FBG literature in relation to EM in idiosyncratic settings of Pakistan. One of the prime contributions of the paper is the development of a comprehensive CG index. This research study used detailed, manually collected novel data on affiliated firms of FBGs in Pakistan.

3D modelling of subsurface legal spaces and boundaries for 3D land administration

The increasing trend of urbanization results in various problems regarding enabling the livable cities such as traffic congestion, environmental pollution, and inadequate disaster preparedness. These problems are considerably related to deficiencies in the aboveground usable areas that can be exploited for the development of urban areas. Underground development is one of the strong solutions to cope with the aforementioned problems. The holistic planning of underground space is an important factor in ensuring the efficient use of underground space. Land administration that deals with the cadastral rights, restrictions, and responsibilities (RRRs) on the surface and subsurface is highly significant in the context of planning the underground space. By nature, there is a need for three-dimensional (3D) ownership information below the surface in order to carry out the analyses within planning studies regarding different aspects such as the existing subsurface structure and environmental impacts. This paper therefore enriches the core data model of the CityJSON standard such that it allows for 3D modelling of legal spaces and boundaries in the subsurface. It presents the usability of the proposed extension by visualizing the underground cadastral RRRs in 3D through the created and validated CityJSON file based on this extension. The practical opportunity arising from the use of CityJSON files derived from the developed extension is demonstrated. Different case studies are presented including the compliance checking regarding the designed underground tunnel within building permitting. The results of this study show that integrated 3D land administration including subsurface can contribute to the facilitation of the overarching planning of underground space.

Ekstensifikasi Penentuan Outsider Pada Pengungkapan Kejahatan Insider Trading di Pasar Modal Berdasarkan Pendekatan Misappropriation Theory

The paradigm used in setting insider trading in the Capital Market Law adheres to the principle of fiduciary duty. That is, conceptually, company insiders as parties entrusted to carry out company operations are obliged to exercise the trust in good faith, so that the insider is not allowed to utilize the ownership of material information to conduct securities transactions aimed at benefiting himself. The problem arises when the principle of fiduciary duty adopted by the Capital Market Law cannot disclose insider trading conducted by: (1) outsiders or tippees who obtain inside information from outsiders or other tippees and (2) outsiders or tippees who obtain material information without unlawful. This is because the burden of proof on the fiduciary duty principle is the relationship between the perpetrator and insiders in the issuer. The Capital Market Act should open up space for the use of misappropriation theory whose approach is oriented towards the ownership nature of material information as applied by Singapore. The research method used is juridical-normative using a statutory approach, a comparative approach, and a case approach. The results showed that the principle of fiduciary duty as embodied in Capital Market Law cannot reach the behavior of secondary tippees and tippees who obtain information without violating the law. Therefore, the author argues that it is necessary to extensify the outsider determination based on misappropriation theory.

Development of 3D Cadastre Strata Building Information Model: An interactive Web-based Prototype

The "3D cadastral strata building information model prototype" project aims to enhance land administration practices in Bhutan by developing a comprehensive solution for the digital representation of 3D land parcels. Through cadastral surveying, plot fragmentation analysis, and 3D building modeling, the project ensures the accurate depiction of land ownership information in compliance with Bhutan’s Lagthram system and the Strata Transaction Guidelines of 2021. At present, the system operates within a 2D spatial framework, where cadastral objects encompass entire land parcels, strata such as apartment buildings, or subterranean parcels. However, both land and property owners’ requirements reveal the inadequacy of solely relying on 2D cadastral parcel registration, as real estate assets inherently exist in three dimensions. Utilizing advanced surveying technologies and the Django framework, the project creates an intuitive website interface that facilitates seamless access and management of land data, enabling stakeholders to visualize landscapes and explore detailed ownership information, including airspace and subsurface rights, in 3D mode. By providing a holistic perspective on land parcels and property rights, the project supports informed decision-making, resource allocation, and sustainable urban development. In summary, the project presents a pioneering approach to land administration, aiming to improve transparency, efficiency, and equity in land management practices, thereby contributing to sustainable development in Bhutan and beyond.

Efficient and Secure EMR Storage and Sharing Scheme Based on Hyperledger Fabric and IPFS

This study examines the issues of privacy protection, data security, and query efficiency in blockchain-based electronic medical record (EMR) sharing. It proposes a secure storage and sharing scheme for EMR based on Hyperledger Fabric and the InterPlanetary File System (IPFS). To mitigate the privacy risks of data mining that could reveal patient identities, we establish an attribution channel in Hyperledger Fabric to store EMR ownership information and a data channel to store the storage location, digest, and usage records of medical data. Encrypted medical data are stored in the IPFS. To improve query efficiency in the blockchain, we integrate queryable medical data attributes into a composite key for conditional queries, avoiding complex data filtering processes. Additionally, we use a zero-knowledge proof combined with smart contracts for decentralized identity verification, eliminating reliance on third-party centralized verification services and enhancing system security. We also integrate AES and proxy re-encryption techniques to ensure data security during sharing. This scheme provides a more secure, efficient, and privacy-preserving approach for EMR systems, with significant practical implications and broad application potential.

Information about life expectancy related to obesity is most important to cat owners when deciding whether to act on a veterinarian's weight loss recommendation.

To determine the relative importance of information communicated to cat owners during veterinarian-client obesity-related conversations. Cat owner participants recruited via snowball sampling. A cross-sectional online questionnaire was distributed to cat owners who owned cats of any weight status. A discrete choice experiment design was used to determine the relative importance of obesity-related attributes to cat owners when receiving information from a veterinarian. A total of 1,095 questionnaires were analyzed. Participating cat owners resided primarily in Canada and the US. Impact on life expectancy was the most important attribute that would encourage participants to pursue weight management for a cat with obesity (relative importance, 32.66%), followed by change to cost of food (20.40%), future quality of life (20.38%), future mobility (14.40%), and risk of developing diabetes (12.15%). Findings suggest that cat owners consider the impact on life expectancy to be most important when considering whether to follow a veterinarian's recommendation for their cat to lose weight. When veterinary professionals are communicating about obesity in practice, there is the potential to increase owner engagement in weight management efforts for cats by emphasizing the obesity-related information owners prefer to receive.

Pelanggaran Batas Privasi Anak dalam Praktik Sharenting pada Kalangan Selebriti Indonesia

The use of social media is increasingly massive, parents uploading photos, videos or other information about their children on social media has become increasingly common and has become a source of controversy in Indonesia recently. This research aims to investigate violations of children's privacy boundaries that occur due to sharenting practices among Indonesian celebrities. Using document study methodology, researchers compiled data related to sharenting practices that occurred in the latest Indonesian celebrity controversies and analyzed them in accordance with Communication Privacy Management (CPM) theory. The results of the research show that YouTube Adsense is a reward that is expected from parents who practice sharenting. Children are considered to have no awareness of their ownership of privacy so they are deemed unable to regulate their privacy rules. The failure to coordinate privacy boundaries between children and parents causes the boundaries of ownership of children's personal information to become blurred. The practice of sharenting by parents among Indonesian celebrities can raise ethical concerns regarding children's privacy rights and weak ownership of children's privacy in accordance with the concept in CPM theory.

Recently, the Supreme Court has emphasized the importance of 'the right to participate of the confiscated person' in the search and seizure process as a procedural tool to prevent illegal excessive seizure of electronic stored information(ESI), and related precedents have emerged one after another. The mainstream of precedents, such as the Supreme Court's decision on May 26, 2011, 2009 Mo110 and July 16, 2015, 2011 Mo1839 en banc decision, regarded the subject of the right to participate in the search and seizure of ESI as the confiscated person. However, in a situation where an investigative agency arbitrarily submits or confiscates an information storage device containing the suspect's ESI from a third party, if the right to participate is just formally guaranteed, the suspect, who is the information owner, is excluded from the procedure and there has been a problem that the legal system cannot effectively prevent illegal excessive seizure. Accordingly, the Supreme Court recently formed the legal principle of the right to participate in the “actual confiscated person” to guarantee the right to participate in the suspect. However, it is said that the right to participate at this time should not be recognized in the position of the suspect, but should have the “exclusive management and disposition of electronic information.” These “exclusive management and disposition” must be held at the time of seizure or near the time. According to the recent Supreme Court's decision on September 18, 2023, the principal offender and the owner of the information storage device who instigated the concealment of evidence do not constitute a “actual confiscated person” who becomes the subject of the right to participate by transferring the “exclusive management and disposition” to the evidence concealment offender.
 The Supreme Court cites Articles 121 and 123 of the Criminal Procedure Act as the legal basis for the confiscated person's right to participate. However, those regulations differ in purpose and content, and the attitude of the precedent presented as the basis for the confiscated person's right to participate is not valid without a clear distinction. In particular, the case law on the right to participate of the “actual confiscated person” has a problem of impairing procedural stability because the legal basis is not clear. It is desirable to clearly distinguish the legal principles of the right to participate in the search and seizure of electronic information, which have been led and accumulated by the Supreme Court, according to the purpose and nature of each participant's right to participate, and the basis under the current law, and form a legal principles on the scope of the participant when confiscating information on such legal and logical premises.
 Since Article 121 of the Criminal Procedure Act stipulates the defendant's right to participate in the search and seizure, and Article 219 applies mutatis mutandis to the search and seizure of investigative agencies, the suspect is the subject of the right to participate. However, since investigative activities are essentially required to be covert, an exception to prior notice of execution is granted if they fall under the 'case of rapid demand' in the clues of Article 122, such as concerns about destruction of evidence. This does not deny or limit the suspect's right to participate. However, it is not necessary to notify the suspect of the execution at the stage of search and seizure outside the field as long as the execution is initiated without prior notice.
 On the other hand, although there is no clear ground rule under the Criminal Procedure Act, the right to participate of the confiscated person is naturally recognized in the overall legal system, or the basis can be found in the regulation of the right to participate in Article 123. The information needs of users in the metaverse communities: a grounded theory study

PurposeThis article aims to understand users' information needs in the metaverse communities and to analyze the similarities and differences between their information needs and those of users in Internet communities.Design/methodology/approachThis study conducted semi-structured interviews with users in the metaverse communities to gather raw data. Grounded theory research methods were employed to code and analyze the collected interview data, resulting in the extraction of 40 initial concepts, 15 subcategories and 5 main categories. Based on Maslow’s hierarchy of needs theory, this paper constructs the hierarchical model of users' information needs in the metaverse communities. It compares the differences between users' information needs in the metaverse and Internet fields.FindingsThe user’s information needs in the metaverse communities are divided into two types: deficiency needs and growth needs. Deficiency needs have two levels. The first level is the demand for basic information resources. The second level is the users demand for information assistance. Growth needs have three levels. The first level is the need for information interactions. The second level is the need for community rules. The ownership information in the community rules can provide proof of user status, assets and so on. The third level is the need for users to contribute and share their own created information content.Originality/valueThis article presents the latest research data from in-depth interviews with users in the metaverse communities. It aims to help builders and managers of metaverse communities understand users' information needs and improve the design of virtual communities.

Customers today find it challenging to reach house owners directly without the influence of brokers.
