Implementation of the REAP Strategy in the Aqidah Akhlak Course to Improve Student Literacy Ability

Aqidah Akhlak is a course that must be attended by PAI students because they will become teachers who will teach this course. The Aqidah Akhlak teacher requires the ability of in the themes that are taught. In this study, the writer will implement the REAP strategy in The Aqidah Akhlak subject to improve the information literacy ability of college students. This research is a Classroom Action Research (CAR) and the subject of research is a PAI UMSIDA student. This research was conducted in several stages, namely planning, action, observation, and reflection. Data collection is done by observation, field notes, interviews, tests, and documentation. After conducting classroom action research on the Aqidah Akhlak course, the results obtained in the Pre-Assessment averaged 50.5, then increased in the Post-Assessment an average of 86.7. Improvement in each cycle is followed by an increase in students' ability to browse the literature appropriately and use it in argumentation, increased activity in discussions, and increased task completion. Based on these results it can be concluded that the implementation of REAP strategy can improve students' information literacy abilities.

ANALISIS LITERASI INFORMASI PADA KETERAMPILAN MENULIS KRITIS DAN ILMIAH MAHASISWA PENDIDIKAN BAHASA INDONESIA UHKBPNP

This study aims to describe the information literacy ability of Indonesian language education students at the University of HKBP Nommensen Pematangsiantar on the subject of critical and scientific writing skills. This study analyzes the information literacy ability using the Seven Pillars Model created by the Standing Conferences of National and University Libraries (SCONUL) which consists of: (1) Identify (understand information needs, (2) Scope (determine the type of information, characteristics, challenges), (3) Plan (determine the search strategy), (4) Gather (do a search, access information), (5) Evaluate (Relevance, accuracy, comparison, (6) Manage (manage information, quote, compile a bibliography, know ethics using information , and (7) present (compile information products in the right form and present) .This type of research uses descriptive research.The method used in this study is a qualitative research method. Peran Program Kelas Literasi dalam Meningkatkan Kemampuan Literasi Informasi Mahasiswa Universitas Nahdlatul Ulama Yogyakarta

The rapid development of information technology makes information spread and open which can be accessed from anywhere and at any time. The development of information technology must also be balanced with the ability to search and identify information properly and correctly, which is then known as information literacy. But this ability is not yet fully owned by information users, especially students. This makes the ability of information literacy is an urgent matter, especially on scientific information. Departing from the low level of scientific information literacy, students need to receive scientific information literacy training, especially in the early years of lectures. This research uses research and development (R&D) methods. Literacy class participants used as informants in this study were determined randomly, which came from the first year students of each study program in the academic year 2019/2020. In the initial stage of this study a measurement of the level of knowledge and literacy ability of students of trainees (classes) was carried out using a pretest. In the next stage class material was carried out as well as practice in order to obtain results in the form of applied skills that could be directly applicable. The material includes general knowledge about scientific information, effective search methods and strategies, searching of electronic journal portal both paid and open access, as well as using and evaluating information including citations. At the final stage of this study a posttest was conducted to see the extent of the effectiveness of this training model and class participants’ understanding of scientific information literacy after attending literacy classes. The results of this program show an increase in students’ information literacy skills.

Covid-19, Family, and Information Literacy

Status of Specific Disasters Emergency Volume 1 and 2, Social distancing, physical distancing to Large Scale Social Restrictions (PSBB) is a series of policies adopted by the Government of Indonesia from the end of January to the end of March 2020 in response to the escalation the Covid-19 pandemic. However, the series of policies have not been able to reduce the number of positive victims of Covid-19. Since the first positive case of two people on March 2, 2020, the number of positive cases of Covid-19 has been increasing day by day. Data as of 30 April 2020 shows the number of 10,118 positive cases. The failure of the Indonesian Government's policy to suppress Covid-19's positive numbers, one of which is that there are still many Indonesians who do not heed the policies implemented by the government and the ineffective digital-based integrated information system that has been made by the government. One of these two factors, rooted in the ability of information literacy that is owned by the community, because the ability of information literacy will determine what people do in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic. This paper tries to discuss how to build the ability of family-based information literacy so that the community has capital accumulated knowledge about the Covid-19 pandemic so that it can avoid the anxiety, fear, panic and pandemic Covid-19. Indonesian smart schools: Their influence on the ability of information literacy on the biology field

Information literacy in the information society era is very important for every individual, especially for students to prevent misunderstandings and misconceptions. Digital-based learning can influence on students' information literacy abilities. The purpose of the study is to look at the effect of digital-based learning (Indonesian Smart Schools) on students' information literacy abilities. This research was conducted from February to June 2019, at SMA Negeri 2 Tasikmalaya. The research method was a true-experimental design with randomized pretest-posttest control group design. This study population was class X, amounting to 299 people, with cluster random sampling technique, the results were class X MIPA 1 (experimental) and X MIPA 5 (control). The information literacy research instrument uses a validated instrument from SAILS® (30 items). Based on the ANCOVA analysis at the significance level (α) = 0.05 and based on the comparison of the values gain, it can be concluded that there was an effect of digital-based learning on students' information literacy abilities on Animalia material. Indonesian Smart Schools can be alternative digital learning to hone the ability of information literacy on Animalia material. The art of the real: fact checking as information literacy instruction

PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to discuss how academic librarians tasked with research instruction can use connections between digital, civic and information literacy to combat polarization and misinformation through skill-based instruction.Design/methodology/approachThe paper discusses a wealth of original data centered on first year students and their information literacy abilities. Discussion of two data sets (one pre/post scored by rubric and one mixed methods) is included to demonstrate the following: existing information literacy skills among a sample cohort of first year students and pre-/post-test assessments from the pilot program for a digital literacy curriculum, along with qualitative responses.FindingsThis paper outlines ways in which information literacy instruction with a fact checking curriculum can help students evaluate digital information more accurately.Originality/valueThis paper provides valuable insight into pedagogical practices that center information literacy as it relates to civic engagement, digital polarization, and the decline of trust and civility since the 2016 Election of President Trump.

Developing a Framework to Improve Information and Digital Literacy in a Bachelor of Paramedic Science Entry-to-Practice Program

The aims of this research were threefold: (1) explore the perceptions of paramedic educators regarding information literacy education (ILE); (2) reveal the information literacy (IL) abilities of paramedic science students; and (3) develop an integrated IL framework for paramedicine. Two key findings arose from this research. First, paramedic educators need to include higher functions of synthesis and creative thinking in ILE. Second, ILE needs to be mapped and scaffolded to incrementally develop these skills across each year of the program. The results informed the development of a programwide ILE framework implemented in 2019 and to be evaluated in 2021.

Application of Computer Information Technology in Modern Distance Education System

The key to the application of computer information technology in distance education system is how to effectively apply the advantages of information technology to better achieve the goal of curriculum learning, cultivate students’ information literacy, innovative spirit and time ability. Computer information technology does play a huge role in distance education. And good teaching resources have laid a solid foundation for teachers to implement distance education, attaching importance to the construction of teaching resources. This paper introduces the necessity of applying computer information technology in modern distance education system and its application in modern distance education.

The result of a preliminary study conducted by the researcher showed that the information literacy of students at the Elementary School Teacher (PGSD) Program was low. Therefore, this research was done to understand the effect of Empowering 8 model application in improving students’ information literacy. This research used the quasi-experimental method with a pretest-posttest control group design. The research participants were 66 students, consisting of 33 students in the experimental class and 33 students in the control class. This research utilized some instruments, including pretest, posttest, questionnaires and observation sheets. The results obtained were: the students’ information literacy ability based on ARCL experimental class was in the high category. It revealed that application of Empowering 8 model had a positive effect on the students’ information literacy.

The utilization of knowledge skill has to be trained by sorting and selecting the proper media for learning whose main purpose is to extend students' intelligence. Skill coaching is a way to boost the flexibility to use learning media, particularly Early Childhood Education and Kindergartens in Lubuk Begalung, Padang. The objectives to be achieved include: to increase the insight of Early Childhood Education and Kindergarten teachers about media, and the ability of media information literacy in learning. Training methods i.e. lectures, discussions, questions, and answers, and case simulations. The conclusion obtained from this activity is that early childhood and kindergarten teachers can choose the media responsibly and able to criticize media content more intelligent in the classroom.

Information Literacy Strategies Used by Second- and Third-Year Biology Students

Results from focus groups with 23 second- and third-year biology students revealed gradual gains in information literacy (IL) abilities and dispositions needed for them to join the community of scientific practice as laid out in the ACRL Framework for Information Literacy for Higher Education. Students were consumers of information and not yet producers of information. They interacted often with primary research articles but struggled to use research tools effectively; remembered active learning vividly; and relied on video resources, Google, and discussions with peers and instructors to define terms and understand results. Findings support the value of collaboration between librarians and science faculty to incorporate IL skills in the process of scientific discovery.

DEVELOPING THE INFORMATION LITERACY-BASED CURRICULUM FOR TEACHER EDUCATION

The ability of information literacy is very important for teachers in carrying out their duties and functions because it is related to the teacher's ability to find, access, and evaluate information. In addition, information literacy skills are also related to lifelong learning that teachers need to improve their competence independently. Information literacy competencies need to be established through education and training in universities. Some studies have found that the teacher's literacy ability is still low. It takes an effort to prepare teacher candidates who have information literacy skills, one of which is by developing an information literacy-based curriculum (ILbC) for teacher education. In this article, the author studies literature related to curriculum concepts, organizations, models, designs and curriculum structure based on information literacy for teacher education. Base on the analysis, the ecletic (combination of cognitive process and technological concept) concept, integrate curriculum organization, Walker model, and problem centered design is appropriate fo developing ILbC. The curriculum structure is also presented. This curriculum is expected to be an alternative to develop information literacy skills of prospective teacher students.

Kemampuan literasi informasi peneliti dalam penulisan karya ilmiah di Loka Litbangkes Pangandaran

The productivity of scientific papers in disseminating research results, mastering basic tasks and competencies in functional positions does not necessarily make the researcher a literate person. Researchers at the Loka Litbangkes, Pangandaran still indicated the existence of issues related to the mastery of information literacy especially in writing scientific papers. The information literacy capabilities of researchers are not yet known comprehensively and deeply, so research is needed to uncover it. This study used a descriptive qualitative approach. The purpose of the study was to obtain a clear picture of the information literacy abilities of researchers, especially in scientific writing. The conceptual research framework to study the information literacy skills of researchers used the SCONUL Seven Pillars Information Literacy Research Lens. Informants were three researchers and colleagues at the Loka Litbangkes, Pangandaran who were determined based on purposive sampling. Results showed that researchers did not master information literacy skills yet. First-level researchers indicated that they did not fully master the Plan, Gather and Evaluate competencies. Middle-level researchers were indicated that they did not master the competencies of Plan, Gather, Evaluate and Present. Whereas the high-level researchers were indicated that they did not fully master the Plan, Gather, Evaluate, Manage and Present competencies. In conclusion, the researcher's information literacy skills are constrained by the lack of participation in information literacy training, limitations and irregularities in library collections, unavailability of access to Scopus indexed international journal databases, lack of science communication networks motivations and limited English proficiency.

Digital competences, computer skills and information literacy in secondary education: mapping and visualization of trends and concepts

Digital competences, computer skills, information literacy and related abilities represent a crucial element in ICT education (Information and Communication Technologies). They are less frequently investigated in the frame of secondary education than in higher education. We assess these contexts in secondary education through science mapping and visualizing techniques, examining publishing patterns and trends. Databases Web of Science (WOS) and Scopus are used. Publishing exhibits logarithmic inverse relationship between rank and frequency (power laws). Only a few chief publications among hundreds account for an important share of all published research. WOS-based visualizations (VOSviewer software) of concepts used in titles, abstracts and keywords show several clusters of research: computer-, information-, as well as digital-related. Further analysis reveals that the major terms which define these clusters predominate in different periods. Computer-related are earlier terms, followed by information-related, and now digital-related. As some concepts mature terminology embraces more trendy novel concepts. Clusters of co-citing and co-cited sources shows differences among publications. Proceedings play an important role as sources of co-citations but are cited more weakly. Both co-citing and co-cited sources exhibit well defined clusters with little convergence between Library and Information Science on one side and Education and Educational Research, and Computer Science on the other even though the respective publications employ similar terminological concepts. The lack of exchange between these research domains calls for more co-operation in order to boost synergy in these critical twenty-first century skills.

Frame by frame: Using the ACRL Framework for Information Literacy to create a library assessment plan

Inspired by the ACRL Framework for Information Literacy for Higher Education, librarians at the Carl B. Ylvisaker Library at Concordia College-Moorhead decided to scrap our old information literacy assessment plan and start from scratch. We began by digging into the library’s past assessment plans in an attempt to gain insight into how the organization’s priorities have changed over time. The earliest assessment notes we uncovered were from 2005 and featured a new student orientation pre- and post-test, administered to a random sample of library users. The focus then was on incoming students’ information literacy abilities and how much they learned during library orientation. A sketch of an abandoned assessment plan from 2010 marked a turn to assessing the library’s instruction program and featured the use of focus groups along with a survey in which alumni were asked how the instruction program may have impacted their life after college. With this pivot towards instruction, the library developed a list of learning outcomes and tracked them to the ACRL Information Literacy Competency Standards for Higher Education. This list was used in-house for designing assignments and linked on our library web page to provide faculty with an overview of the program.

Assessing information literacy instruction in interdisciplinary first year project-based courses with STEM students

Broad and discipline-specific information literacy competencies must be mastered by science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) students. This study assessed changes in student perceptions of their competency in information literacy after continuous efforts in course curriculum. Data were gathered in 2015–2016 from first year interdisciplinary project-based courses with STEM students to assess changes in information literacy competencies. Analyses suggested there was a significant increase in students' perception of their familiarity with library resources, search strategies, citation use, and ability to evaluate source quality. There was no change in their perception of their ability to evaluate the variety of source and source relevance and a decrease in their perception of the ethical use of information. With faculty-librarian partnership and integrated instruction in a first year course, students showed the largest perceived increases in foundational information literacy skills but struggled with information literacy abilities. This study provides a baseline of information literacy competencies of first year students and provides recommendations for continuing education.

Analysis of preservice science teacher information literacy towards research skills

Information literacy is an important component for university students necessary to support personal development both in academic and real-life setting. This research aimed to analyze the drawing picture of information literacy ability among preservice science teacher in Universitas Negeri Surabaya related to research skills. Purposive sampling was used to determine the amount of participants, thereby involving 208 participants from class year 2014, 2015, and 2016. For gathering the data, the instruments being applied were questionnaire based information literacy test. The data then were analyzed in descriptive manner. The results indicated that the male students outperformed the female students by which they obtained 51.1% correct answer, 2% higher than the female students. Based on the duration of the study, the percentage of correct answers varies among students of class year 2014, 2015, and 2016; 56.2%, 45.1%, and 48.4% respectively. When looked at the average percentage of all students, however, most of items were scored in low category (below 50%) except for type of notification, strategy to accessing information, mastery of terminologies used in research and the essence of the copyright . To conclude, the literacy ability of preservice science teachers is still relatively low and the tendency of information literacy possessed by male students is relatively higher than female students.

STUDI TENTANG KEMAMPUAN LITERASI INFORMASI DI KALANGAN SISWA MENENGAH PERTAMA

The research was conducted to the students of Al-Kausar Internat Junior high school as an example of school which has applied the concept of information literacy in one subject and Arrahman Junior high school as an example of school which has not applied the concept of information literacy yet. The aim of this research was to find out whether there is a significant differences between students' literacy ability in finishing task exercises from those school. The method used in this research was a descriptive comparative method to find out the differences between both of objects in this research. The data were collected through questionnaire, interviews, and library study. The respondents are 53 students selected through Proportionate stratified random sampling techniques. The findings show there is no significant differences between students of Alkautsar junior high school and Ar Rahman junior high school on their students' information literacy ability. However, from the output scores of mean view, Al Kautsar Junior high school has a larger score than Ar Rahman junior high school. Therefore, Alkautsar Junior high school students have a better information literacy ability compared to Ar Rahman Junior high school students.
