Factors Affect In IELTS Test For Students of STIKOM Uyelindo Kupang

IELTS (International English Language Testing System) is a standardized English language proficiency test which is a prerequisite for continuing study or work. There are still many people who experience difficulties in carrying out the IELTS test to achieve a score above 6. The aim of the research is to know what are the factors that affect the result of students IELTS test. This research wants to find out what factors influence students' mastery of IELTS material. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative. Qualitative descriptive research uses a series of methods to specify and describe data findings that occur in the field without providing experimental treatment. There are four IELTS materials given during the test, including: reading, writing, speaking, and listening. These four materials require strategies in their implementation and each has their own difficulties in mastering them. This research will be conducted at STIKOM Uyelindo Kupang with the research object being students of the Informatics and Information Systems Engineering Study Program Semester 2. It is hoped that this research will provide readers with an understanding regarding the success factors in carrying out the IELTS test.

Development of a Photoshop course based on task-based Learning and Gagne's Teaching Model to Improve the Innovative Ability of First-year Students at Anhui Wenda University of Information Engineering

Background and Aim: Photoshop courses must incorporate both Gagne's teaching model and task-based learning to foster students' innovative thinking. This combination guarantees that students receive organized, efficient instruction while working on real-world projects, which enhances their creativity and problem-solving abilities. This research and development research aimed to 1) determine the effectiveness of the Photoshop course based on task-based learning and Gagne's teaching model to continuously improve the innovative ability by comparing the development of students' innovative ability after implementing with 4 times, and 2) compare students' satisfaction after implementing the Photoshop course based on task-based learning and Gagne's teaching model. Materials and Methods: The sample was a class of 37 first-year students, majoring in product design at Anhui Wenda University of Information Engineering. They were derived by cluster random sampling. The instruments used in this research were (1) a Photoshop course based on task-based learning and Gagne's teaching model, (2) lesson plans, (3) an innovative ability evaluation form with 0.89 reliability, and 4) a student satisfaction questionnaire with 0.98 reliability. The statistics used to analyze the data included the mean, standard deviation, one-way repeated measures ANOVA, and t-test for one sample. Results: Mauchly's test indicated a violation of sphericity, requiring Greenhouse-Geisser corrections. Significant improvements in students' innovative ability were observed across four-time points (F=251.830, p<0.001). Additionally, student satisfaction with the Photoshop course significantly exceeded the set criterion (t = 97.4, p < 0.05). Conclusion: The implementation results show that the difference in students' innovation ability each time different at the 0.05 level of significance, they were considered the students’ innovation ability was increasingly higher and continuously each time from the first time to the last time, students’ satisfaction was at a high level.

Information Arbitrage in Bipartite Heat Engines

Heat engines and information engines have each historically served as motivating examples for the development of thermodynamics. While these two types of systems are typically thought of as two separate kinds of machines, recent empirical studies of specific systems have hinted at possible connections between the two. Inspired by molecular machines in the cellular environment, which in many cases have separate components in contact with distinct sources of fluctuations, we study bipartite heat engines. We show that a bipartite heat engine can produce net output work only by acting as an information engine. Conversely, information engines can extract more work than the work consumed to power them only if they have access to different sources of fluctuations, i.e., act as heat engines. We illustrate these findings first through an analogy to economics and a cyclically controlled 2D ideal gas. We then explore two analytically tractable model systems in more detail: a Brownian-gyrator heat engine, which we show can be reinterpreted as a feedback-cooling information engine, and a quantum-dot information engine, which can be reinterpreted as a thermoelectric heat engine. Our results suggest design principles for both heat engines and information engines at the nanoscale and ultimately imply constraints on how free-energy transduction is carried out in biological molecular machines. Ontology-assisted GPT-based building performance simulation and assessment: Implementation of multizone airflow simulation

Building performance simulation (BPS) is crucial for building performance assessments across its lifecycle. However, the complexity of buildings and the iterative nature of simulation poses challenges, leading to high costs and low values. Previous studies focused on simplification, but did not fully utilize advanced simulation engines. Despite recent advancements, there is a lack of research on leveraging artificial intelligence (AI), specifically generative pre-trained transformer (GPT), for BPS. Therefore, this study proposes a GPT-based BPS system, enhancing simulation efficiency and value by integrating simulation engines and advanced data analytics in the GPT environment. The ontology for GPT-based BPS is also developed to enable comprehensive, reliable, informative BPS environments. Based on this framework, case studies were conducted for GPT-based multizone airflow network simulation in a high-rise residential building using CONTAM software. They demonstrate GPT’s capabilities in retrieving simulation data, visualizing results with data mining, answering questions based on building knowledge, checking compliance with design guidelines, and proposing design alternatives. Finally, this study emphasizes expert interventions with ontological engineering informatics to utilize strictly structured BPS engines.

Design Science in the Context of the Tourism Sector: A Scoping Review

ABSTRACT Design Science emerges from a focus on solving real-world problems, resulting in the improvement or creation of an artifact or the prescription of recommendations. While this approach is already relevant in Information Systems, Engineering, Medicine, Management, and Organizations studies, research based on Design Science in tourism and hospitality is scarce compared to other fields. Therefore, the objective was to map articles in the context of the Tourism Sector that use Design Science as a methodological foundation, understanding the current scenario and the themes that are beginning to explore this paradigm. A Scoping Review was conducted in 5 stages, with a total of four databases serving as sources of collection, considering only peer-reviewed articles, resulting in 44 articles deemed eligible. Results highlight the good indexing of published journals, a concentration of articles between 2020–2021, and 5 clusters of sub-themes investigated in the articles.

Multifaceted Exploration of Public Awareness, Government Perspectives, and Community Attitudes Toward HIV.

The purpose of this research is to quantify the knowledge of students about HIV, social media contribution, and their satisfaction with the government and society's acceptance of HIV patients. A cross-sectional survey of 579 participants was conducted at Punjab University, University of Peshawar, Karachi University, Baluchistan University of Information Technology, Engineering and Management Sciences University, and Quaid-i-Azam University. Student self-administered surveys included demographics, knowledge, government satisfaction, social media rumors, and PLWHA acceptability. The response rate was 96.5%. The four variables are knowledge, government satisfaction, social media rumors, and HIV patient acceptance. The knowledge score in married males (Beta=-0.075) and married females (Beta=-0.022), government satisfaction in married males (Beta=0.087) and females (-0.412), social media rumors in married males (Beta=-0.125) and married female (Beta=-0.301, and HIV acceptance in society married male -0.301 and married female 0.07. the knowledge and government satisfaction, score showed that males had higher knowledge about HIV than married females. Married women say HIV acceptability in society is strong, whereas men believe social media spreads less misinformation. Similarly, there is a negative correlation between government satisfaction social media rumors (-0.687**) and HIV acceptance in society (-0.687**). HIV acceptance has a strong correlation with knowledge (0.711**) and social media rumors (0.727**). The p<0.001 indicates that there is a significant correlation. Sufficient knowledge and the positive role of social media, effective government contributions to eradicate HIV, and more awareness and knowledge can significantly change the attitude of the community toward PLWHA.

Application of the KARP RABIN Algorithm for Plagiarism Detection System in Thesis Proposal Submission in the Department of Informatics Engineering STMIK Kaputama

Plagiarism is a serious threat, especially to academic honesty, so a detection system that can analyze various types of documents is needed. This research develops a plagiarism detection system using Optical Character Recognition (OCR) to convert image text into digital text. Rabin – Karp algorithm with rolling hash and Dice Coefficient Similarity is applied to measure similarities between documents. Testing is carried out on .doc, .txt, .jpg files. As a result, the system can detect plagiarism well in clear text and image documents, but accuracy can decrease in low-quality images. In conclusion, the similarity of content, sentence structure, and format affects the degree of similarity, while OCR techniques work effectively even though they are limited to low-quality images.

Application of the Simple Additive Weighting (SAW) Method in the Decision Support System for the Selection of Study Programs at the University of Papua

To help prospective students choose a study program that suits their abilities and interests, it is necessary to design a decision support system. This system aims to facilitate the selection process of study programs for prospective students. This research aims to develop a decision support system that can help prospective students in choosing a study program at the Faculty of Engineering, University of Papua in an objective and structured manner. This study applies the Simple Additive Weighting method to facilitate the decision-making process by considering a number of relevant criteria. The evaluation is based on the following criteria: tuition fees, accreditation status, number of teaching staff and staff, and job prospects. The findings of the study revealed that the Informatics Engineering and Civil Engineering Study Programs, both at the S1 level, obtained the highest identical preference value, namely 1, outperforming other study programs. However, the best alternative is the S1 Informatics Engineering Study Program.

Pengaruh Model Pembelajaran Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) Terhadap Hasil Belajar dalam Sub Materi Media Sosial di Kelas VII pada SMP Negeri 2 Darma

The low learning outcomes of Information Engineering (ICT) students in grade VII of SMP Negeri 2 Darma are caused by several factors, including students who are less motivated to learn ICT and also the factor of teachers who still use conventional methods or lecture methods so that in the teaching and learning process students tend to be passive. This study aims to find out whether there is an influence of the Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) learning model on learning outcomes in social media sub-material in grade VII at SMP Negeri 2 Darma. The research approach used is a quantitative approach with an experimental research design type. The population in this study is 35 students with a sample of grade VII of SMP Negeri 2 Darma. The data collection technique uses a test. Data analysis using t-test. The results of the study showed that the pretest results had a mean of 46.42 and a posttest result of 68.71. Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) learning media has an influence on the learning outcomes of information technology (ICT) social media sub-materials. This is shown from the results of data analysis that the value of, t count = 10.911 &gt; t table = 2.650, so that the hypothesis proposed in the study is accepted, so that there is an influence of the Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) learning model on learning outcomes in social media sub-material in grade VII at SMP Negeri 2 Darma

Jamming of nephron-forming niches in the developing mouse kidney creates cyclical mechanical stresses.

Urinary collecting tubules form during kidney embryogenesis through the branching of the ureteric bud epithelium. A travelling mesenchyme niche of nephron progenitor cells caps each branching ureteric bud tip. These 'tip domain' niches pack more closely over developmental time and their number relates to nephron endowment at birth. Yet, how the crowded tissue environment impacts niche number and cell decision-making remains unclear. Here, through experiments and mathematical modelling, we show that niche packing conforms to physical limitations imposed by kidney curvature. We relate packing geometries to rigidity theory to predict a stiffening transition starting at embryonic day 15 in the mouse, validated by micromechanical analysis. Using a method to estimate tip domain 'ages' relative to their most recent branch events, we find that new niches overcome mechanical resistance as they branch and displace neighbours. This creates rhythmic mechanical stress in the niche. These findings expand our understanding of kidney development and inform engineering strategies for synthetic regenerative tissues.

A New NDSA (Normalized Differential Spectral Attenuation) Measurement Campaign for Estimating Water Vapor Along a Radio Link

The Normalized Differential Spectral Attenuation (NDSA) technique was proposed years ago as an active method for measuring integrated water vapor (IWV) along a Ku/K-band radio link immersed (totally or partially) in the troposphere. The approach is of the active kind, as it relies on the transmission of a couple of sinusoidal signals, whose power is measured at the receiver, thus providing the differential attenuation measurements from which IWV estimates can be in turn derived. In 2018, a prototype instrument providing such differential attenuation measurements was completed and set up for a first measurement campaign aimed at demonstrating the NDSA method. By the end of June 2022, the instrument was profoundly modified and upgraded so that a second measurement campaign could be carried out from 1 August to 30 November 2022. The transmitter was placed on the top of Monte Gomito (44.1277°lat, 10.6434°lon, 1892 m a.s.l.) and the receiver on the roof of the Department of Information Engineering of the University of Florence (43.7985°lat, 11.2528°lon, 50 m a.s.l.). The resulting radio link length was 61.15 km. Four ground weather stations of the regional weather service were selected among those available. In this paper, we describe the upgraded instrument and present the outcomes of the new measurement campaign, whose purpose was mainly to compare the IWV estimates provided by the instrument with the ground sensor measurements of air temperature, air humidity, barometric pressure, and rainfall. In particular, we show that the temporal trends of the two IWV estimates are qualitatively consistent, and that the instrument is able to provide IWV estimates also in the presence of fog and rainfall. Conversely, a quantitative evaluation through comparison with IWV data from point weather station measurements appears challenging due to the significant spatial variability in temperature and relative humidity, even between couples of stations that are quite close to each other.

Cryo-EM analysis of Pseudomonas phage Pa193 structural components

The World Health Organization has designated Pseudomonas aeruginosa as a critical pathogen for the development of new antimicrobials. Bacterial viruses, or bacteriophages, have been used in various clinical settings, commonly called phage therapy, to address this growing public health crisis. Here, we describe a high-resolution structural atlas of a therapeutic, contractile-tailed Pseudomonas phage, Pa193. We used bioinformatics, proteomics, and cryogenic electron microscopy single particle analysis to identify, annotate, and build atomic models for 21 distinct structural polypeptide chains forming the icosahedral capsid, neck, contractile tail, and baseplate. We identified a putative scaffolding protein stabilizing the interior of the capsid 5-fold vertex. We also visualized a large portion of Pa193 ~ 500 Å long tail fibers and resolved the interface between the baseplate and tail fibers. The work presented here provides a framework to support a better understanding of phages as biomedicines for phage therapy and inform engineering opportunities.

Education in Cybersecurity – A Case Study

The inclusion of soft skills linked to Cybersecurity and cyber defense in the academic curricula of higher education courses is a very current issue. Several studies have been carried out in this regard, given the increasing importance of creating awareness about good practices in accessing computer networks, particularly the Internet. These studies primarily consist of recommendations on building the curricula of such courses, guiding the correct ways to do this. Our approach here is from the perspective of the students who may be the target of these cybersecurity skills. In this sense, we are developing a study in a Portuguese higher education institution to understand what higher education students think about this issue and their perception of the need for training in the area. We will ask students from various areas of education about this topic. We will then present an extended study when the preliminary results of a pilot test study are completed and shown. We questioned 423 students from the Informatics Engineering Degree course and analyzed the data obtained in the survey. Since then, this analysis of the data obtained in this study allows us to conclude that the students who participated in this study are very aware of issues related to cyber security and the need to be taught at least the fundamental concepts of cyber hygiene and cyber protection to all to all higher education students. In addition to this first conclusion, most of these students are concerned about the causes and consequences of cyber-attacks and the lack of knowledge that most people have about this problem.

Finite-time optimization of a quantum Szilard heat engine

We propose a finite-time quantum Szilard engine (QSE) with a spin-1/2 quantum particle as the working substance (WS) to accelerate the operation of information engines. We introduce a Maxwell's demon (MD) to probe the spin state within a finite measurement time tM to capture the which-way information of the particle, quantified by the mutual information I(tM) between WS and MD. We establish that the efficiency η of QSE is bounded by η≤1−(1−ηC)ln2/I(tM), where I(tM)/ln2 characterizes the ideality of quantum measurement, and approaches 1 for the Carnot efficiency reached under ideal measurement in quasistatic regime. We find that the output power of QSE scales as PO∝tM3 in the short-time regime and as PO∝tM−1 in the long-time regime. Additionally, considering the energy cost for erasing the MD's memory required by Landauer's principle, there exists a threshold time that guarantees QSE to output positive work.
