Influential academic factors in the integration of ICT in higher education after the COVID-19 pandemic

The emergence of the COVID-19 pandemic led to the need to move educational processes to virtual environments and increase the use of digital tools for different teaching uses. This led to a change in the habits of using information and communication technologies (ICT), especially in higher education. This work analyzes the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the frequency of use of different ICT tools in a sample of 950 Latin American university professors while focusing on the area of knowledge of the participating professors. To this end, a validated questionnaire has been used, the responses of which have been statistically analyzed. As a result, it has been proven that participants give high ratings to ICT but show insufficient digital competences for its use. The use of ICT tools has increased in all areas after the pandemic but in a diverse way. Differences have been identified in the areas of knowledge regarding the use of ICT for different uses before the pandemic. In this sense, the results suggest that Humanities professors are the ones who least use ICT for didactic purposes. On the other hand, after the pandemic, the use of ICT for communication purposes has been homogenized among the different knowledge areas.

Navigating the digital divide: assessing faculty ICT skills and challenges in shaping the future of higher education in India

This article delves into the transformative impact of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) on higher education institutions in India, particularly in the context of the rapid shift to online classes prompted by the global pandemic. The study focuses on evaluating the Information and Communication Technology skills of faculty members across central universities, government higher education institutions, and state universities. Through a random sample of 220 respondents, the research employs statistical tools, including one-way ANOVA and independent-sample t-test, to discern patterns and variations in faculty ICT proficiency. Notably, the findings underscore the significance of assessing faculty readiness for online teaching, revealing a need for targeted interventions to bridge existing skill gaps. Furthermore, the article delves into the challenges encountered during the transition to fully online classes, examining factors such as age, resource availability, and operational difficulties. The disparities in the adoption of online education between faculty and students are explored, shedding light on the emotional dynamics experienced by educators in this transformative process. Additionally, the study proposes recommendations for fostering 21st-century teaching strategies, advocating for a nuanced approach to faculty development that considers both attitudes and skills. The insights provided aim to inform policymakers, educational authorities, and institutions on strategies to enhance the efficacy of online education and address the evolving needs of higher education in the digital era. In conclusion, this article contributes a multifaceted exploration of the challenges and opportunities posed by the integration of ICT in higher education in India. By providing a nuanced understanding of faculty ICT skills, challenges in online education adoption, and recommendations for the future, the article seeks to be a valuable resource for shaping effective and inclusive strategies for the evolving landscape of higher education.

Utilization of ICT in Higher Education for Islamic Education Lecturers to Innovate

Taking a theoretical approach, this paper explores the concept of educational innovation within Higher Education and the use of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) as a fundamental tool for achieving it. It aims to demonstrate how universities are now producers of knowledge operating within a new cultural and paradigmatic shift, whereby ICT has facilitated a continuous process of transformation and improvement. Additionally, mobile phones and other devices have become a common feature in the classroom, and can play a vital role in the learning process, however, it falls on teachers to determine how to best utilize them. The challenge of innovation is thus presented to educators. The importance of technological innovation has become a pressing issue in the digital age, with a consensus among the scientific community that educational innovation is inextricably linked to digital technologies.

A detailed survey regarding the usage of different ICT technology modes adopted by higher education institutions

<span lang="EN-US">Information and communication technologies (ICTs) in all aspects of life have become the tools that are present everywhere and in a ubiquitous manner. Over the last twenty to thirty years, it has been noticed that the application of ICT has significantly changed the procedures and courses of almost all the higher education institutions. The higher education field is a highly socially-focused practice and providing quality education is traditionally been linked with the efficient teacher and their capacity for a high level of one-on-one contact with students. The use of ICT in higher education allows for more student-centered learning settings. Due to the reason that the world is quickly developing into a digital place with a huge level of digital information, however, the role of ICT in higher education is becoming increasingly significant and will persistently to grow and evolve in the 21<sup>st</sup> century. The application of ICT in the teaching and learning process, as well as its effective usage in higher education, depends on a variety of tools and techniques. In this paper, a detailed analysis of various modes adopted by the institutions of higher education is made.</span>

Influence of Knowledge Area on the Use of Digital Tools during the COVID-19 Pandemic among Latin American Professors

In this paper, quantitative, descriptive, and correlational research is carried out on the impact that the process of digitalization of academic activities in higher education has had on the habits of use of information and communication technologies (ICT) among professors and the influence of the area of knowledge on this impact. For this purpose, responses from 716 professors from different Latin American universities to a survey designed by the authors were statistically analyzed. Following the UNESCO guide on the use of ICT in higher education, the survey distinguishes the following teaching activities to measure the use of ICT: lessons, tutorials, sharing materials, and evaluation. The results show that the use of ICT has increased in all teaching activities, but unevenly, being particularly intense in those in which the use of ICT was less frequent during the pandemic—specifically, tutorials and evaluation, whose frequency of use has increased by around 50%. As a result of this uneven increase, the use of ICTs in different teaching activities has become more homogeneous after the pandemic. This increase was significantly higher among engineering and social sciences professors than in other areas of knowledge, as well as in evaluation and tutorial tools than in other activities. In addition, the ICT tools most used during the pandemic were those with which the professors or students were most familiar before the pandemic. It is recommended that universities increase the specific training of professors in the pedagogical use of ICT and that they should address the specificities of each area of knowledge.

ICT in higher education: learning as usual or a “new normal”?

PurposeThis study examines students’ perspectives towards the utilization of information and communication technology (ICT), during this sudden shift to remote online education due to COVID-19 worldwide pandemic. The aim is to identify the predictors of learning outcomes and understand if they are here to exist as the new normal.Design/methodology/approachThe independent variable motivation, managing emotion, and acceptability of ICT, are examined as potential determinants of perceived learning outcomes in remote online education. An aggregate of 220 responses from the students of management graduates in higher education were collected to examine the predictors of learning outcomes using regression model in SPSS software. In addition, ANOVA technique was used to compare and assess managing emotion, motivation, and ICT acceptability of male and female students in remote online education.FindingsResults indicate that motivation, managing emotion and acceptability of ICT are significant predictors, which affect students’ perceived learning outcomes. Furthermore, the study reveals that managing emotions and motivation levels of female students are higher than male students in remote online education.Practical implicationsResearch identifies the antecedents of student learning outcomes in management education. These finding may be useful for educators and management to understand the factors influencing students' learning outcomes and to develop various modules to make remote online learning effective.Originality/valueThis research contributes significantly in investigating the antecedents of students learning outcome and provide insights regarding student’s perspective towards sudden shift to remote online education due to COVID-19 worldwide pandemic.

Developing a Validated Instrument to Measure Students' Active Learning and Actual Use of Information and Communication Technologies for Learning in Saudi Arabia's Higher Education.

Higher education authorities have supplied information and communication technologies (ICTs) to guarantee that students use ICT to improve their learning and research outputs. ICT, on the other hand, has been proven to be underused, particularly by students. Therefore, we aimed to develop a new model to measure students’ active learning and actual use of ICT in higher education. To investigate this issue, the technology acceptance model and constructivism learning theory were verified and applied to evaluate university students’ use of ICT for active learning purposes. The participants in the study were 317 postgraduate and undergraduate students from four faculties at King Faisal University who consented to take part. The research data were analyzed using structural equation modeling (AMOS-SEM). Three specific components were used: the technology adoption model, constructivism learning, and active learning using ICT. The findings revealed that: (a) using ICTs for students’ interactivity, engagement, expected effort, subjective norm, and perceived ease of use has a direct positive impact on perceived enjoyment and usefulness; (b) perceived enjoyment and usefulness has a direct positive impact on active learning, attitude toward use, and behavioral intention to use ICTs; (c) active learning has a direct positive impact on attitude toward use, behavioral intention to use ICTs; and (d) active learning has a direct positive impact on attitude. Moreover, the results showed the mediator factors’ values positively “R square,” active learning (0.529), attitude toward use (0.572), behavioral intention to use (0.583), and actual ICT use (0.512) in higher education. Therefore, the results of the hypotheses developed a validated instrument to measure students’ active learning and actual use of ICTs in higher education in Saudi Arabia.

The Reality of Using ICT in Teaching in Moroccan Universities from University Professors’ perspective

The study aimed to examine the reality of using information and communication technologies (ICT) in teaching at University from the point of view of university professors and the probability of using such technologies in distance education, particularly under the current unfavorable conditions that do not allow classroom teaching. To achieve these objectives, the research adopted the descriptive-analytical and used a questionnaire, consisting of three sections, that was administered to a sample of 140 professors at four university departments during the academic year 2021-2022. The study results revealed that the participants could use ICT to an acceptable degree, but used ICT programs in teaching to a medium degree. Furthermore, the participants suffered from difficulties of using ICT in higher education. The study concluded with a set of recommendations for the optimal utilization of ICT in higher education that can contribute to improving the quality of teaching and learning.

The impact of internal factors on the use of technology in higher education in Saudi Arabia during the COVID-19 pandemic

BACKGROUND: Technology has recently become a major component of the educational field and learning process for it provides students with opportunities to learn more effectively and to operate efficiently in this age of technological advances. As academics, the use of technology in universities is transforming our work, and more specifically the way we support students in the classroom. As higher education institutions bring more technology into their classrooms, academics will in turn strive to put more technology in their students’ hands. That is, if they are prepared to do so. More importantly, ICT (Information and Communication Technology) in this ongoing COVID-19 pandemic becomes a central and integral focus globally regardless one is associated with college or university. OBJECTIVE: This paper therefore attempts to examine the internal factors that should be taken into consideration when using technology for teaching and learning purposes in higher education in Saudi Arabia. METHODS: The study develops a number of hypotheses and a theoretical framework based on a questionnaire conducted among the faculty staff in Hail university to test the study hypotheses. RESULTS: All the study six hypotheses have been supported. The relationship among these hypotheses are clear and significant. Data analysis of this study have shown that perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use, computer self-efficacy, attitudes and computer anxiety have direct and substantial effect on the university teaching staff’s intention to use technology. CONCLUSIONS: The findings of this study will for sure assist in overcoming the problems and difficulties facing the use of ICT in higher education in Saudi Arabia, particularly those challenges which have arisen amid the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic.

An Imperative for the National Public Health School in Burkina Faso to Promote the Use of Information and Communication Technologies in Education During the COVID-19 Pandemic: Critical Analysis.

BackgroundSeveral studies have reported the positive impact of information and communication technologies (ICTs) on academic performance and outcomes. Although some equipment is available, the ICTs for education at the National Public Health School (NPHS) of Burkina Faso have many shortcomings. These shortcomings were clearly revealed during the search for responses to the crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Indeed, to curb the spread of COVID-19, some measures were taken, such as closure of educational institutions. This resulted in a 2.5-month suspension of educational activities. Despite its willingness, the NPHS was unable to use ICTs to continue teaching during the closure period of educational institutions.ObjectiveIn this paper, we aim to propose practical solutions to promote ICT use in teaching at the NPHS by analyzing the weaknesses and challenges related to its use.MethodsWe conducted a critical analysis based on information from the gray literature of NPHS. This critical analysis was preceded by a review of systematic reviews on barriers and facilitating factors to using ICTs in higher education and a systematic review of ICT use during the COVID-19 pandemic in higher education. An ICT integration model and a clustering of ICT integration factors guided the analysis.ResultsThe weaknesses and challenges identified relate to the infrastructure and equipment for the use of ICTs in pedagogical situations in face-to-face and distance learning; training of actors, namely the teachers and students; availability of qualified resource persons and adequate and specific financial resources; motivation of teachers; and stage of use of ICTs.ConclusionsTo promote the use of ICTs in teaching at the NPHS, actions must be performed to strengthen the infrastructure and equipment, human resources, the skills of actors and the motivation of teachers in the pedagogical use of ICTs.

Knowledge and Uses of Information and Communication Technologies in Dental Teaching

Background: Information and communication technologies (ICT) have transformed teaching-learning processes in dental education. Professors are required to know and use them appropriately. Purpose: To identify the level of knowledge of ICT that professors at a dental school have and describe their academic uses. Methods: A mixed research method was used with an explanatory sequential design (quantitative-qualitative). A previously validated questionnaire was applied to 68 professors to measure their knowledge and uses of ICT. Subsequently, semi-structured interviews were conducted with 15 of them to obtain more relevant perceptions. In the quantitative phase, descriptive statistics and multivariate analyzes were used, while the qualitative information was systematically arranged in content categories. Results: 63.2 % of professors reached a basic level of ICT knowledge. Only a statistically significant relationship was found between the level of ICT knowledge and age, since professors under the age of 50 presented better results. Although 66.2 % say they use ICTs more than twice a week in their academic work, their use is limited to recording attendance and grades in the institutional platform, preparing and presenting contents in the learning sessions, looking for scientific information, and communicate with students. Conclusion: These findings highlight the need to improve faculty training and to promote educational policies that favor the effective incorporation of ICT in higher education.

Modelo inclusivo por medio de las TIC en atención a estudiantes indígenas de educación superior

La inclusión de estudiantes indígenas representa un reto en la permanencia en Educación Superior, por lo cual el uso de las TIC es un medio que facilita tal proceso con un aprendizaje ubicuo. Por tanto, el objetivo general de la presenta investigación es describir el proceso de inclusión de estudiantes indígenas y el uso de las TIC en educación superior en Sonora, México con la finalidad de determinar un modelo inclusivo de atención. Se realizó un estudio cuantitativo tipo descriptivo- correlacional con un diseño no experimental transeccional, se aplicó como técnica de recolección de datos el cuestionario de dispositivos móviles en educación: el aprendizaje ubicuo (Sevillano, 2016) y el Índice de Inclusión (Both & Ainscow, 2000) a 84 estudiantes universitarios provenientes de una etnia indígena de Sonora, México. Para el análisis datos se empleó el programa estadísticos SPSS versión 21 y EQS 6.1. Los resultados indican el uso del Smartphone y laptop para fines académicos y sociales con mayor frecuencia; en el proceso de inclusión se señala la necesidad de diseñar clases que aborden las necesidades educativas y el empleo del uso de las TIC por parte del profesorado, así como la promoción de una cultura inclusiva. El modelo estructural explica un 32% la inclusión educativa. Se propone implementar el modelo y medir el impacto en el logro académico-social de los estudiantes indígenas.

SWAYAM: A Revolution in Indian Higher Education

The traditional classroom based education system has certain limitations in terms of physical infrastructure as well as human resources. To over come these limitations AI can be effectively utilized for imparting quality education to larger number of aspirants. But for effective application of Artificial Intelligence (AI), we cannot ignore the importance of HI. Human Intelligence (HI) is very important at every step. Identification of Variables that Predict Teachers’ Attitudes toward ICT in Higher Education for Teaching and Research: A Study with Regression

The aim of this research is to analyse the attitudes towards information and communication technologies (ICT) of higher education teachers from an affective, cognitive and behavioural model for teaching and research. It also aimed to explore different factors that can predict such attitudes. A non-experimental study was proposed using a survey technique and descriptive and inferential analyses were carried out using a multiple linear regression model (MLR). In total, the sample was formed by 867 university professors from Spain belonging to different areas of knowledge. The results show that these teachers have a medium total attitudinal level, so the lowest attitudes have been represented by the behavioural ones, followed by the affective ones. Regarding the predictor variables, variables that can predict such attitudes were found to be age, participation in projects, gender and teaching in face-to-face and/or online universities (ordered from highest to lowest priority).

In the present paper an attempt has been made to study the role of ICT in higher education. The paper highlights the concept and recent steps taken by Indian Government for ICT access. The paper argues the role of ICT in transforming teaching learning process and also discusses the opportunities of ICT in contemporary higher education and challenges with deploying ICT in education. The authors also provide some practical suggestions for addressing the challenges and finally the concluding section summaries the idea and its usefulness.

ICT Utilization and Improving Students Performance in Higher Education

Nowadays, higher education providing institutions depend upon Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) for all purposes like teaching, administration, learning and other research related works. ICT is found to be a major resource for bringing competitive growth for an organization. In general, the use of ICT in higher education institution plays a vital role in providing modern learning approaches. Further, the utilization of data mining in ICT can predict the performance of students and offer a way to improve it. This paper identifies the usage of ICTs among higher graduates and the impact of parameters such as gender, area of interest as well as name of the university. In addition, data mining based ranking algorithm is introduced in order to analyze the performance of students. The evaluation results show that the use of ICT in higher education provides technological improvements and these enhancements are associated with factors such as gender, area of interest as well as university. Moreover, the ranking algorithm can easily evaluate the ICT based performance of higher education institutions.

Estrategia didáctica para el desarrollo de habilidades investigativas con el aprovechamiento de las TIC

En la actualidad se puede considerar un creciente interés por el empleo de las Tecnologías de la Información y Comunicación (TIC) en la actividad investigativa en las instituciones de formación. Las TIC ofrecen posibilidades de ampliación de la oferta informativa, eliminación de las barreras espacio-temporales entre el profesor y los estudiantes e incremento de modalidades de comunicación. En este estudio se presenta la propuesta de una estrategia didáctica para el desarrollo de habilidades investigativas con el aprovechamiento de las TIC. Esta estrategia se propone trabajarla con estudiantes de Pedagogía de las ciencias experimentales-informática; de la facultad de la educación, el arte y la comunicación de la Universidad Nacional de Loja, Ecuador. La metodología empleada se expresa en el análisis y síntesis, así como la encuesta y el método estadístico-matemático en el procesamiento de los datos a diez especialistas que investigan en el tema de la incorporación de las TIC a la educación superior. Se concluye que los resultados de la evaluación realizada por los especialistas sobre la estrategia diseñada, son estadísticamente significativos, lo que implica que hay evidencias suficientes para plantear, con un 95 % de confianza, que los diez especialistas concuerdan en la determinación de su pertinencia, estructura y funcionalidad, así como en la efectividad de su aplicación en la práctica investigativa.
