Strain Effect on Magneto-optical and Magnetic Properties of Film System Based on Fe and Pt

In the work the strain effect in magneto-optical (magneto-optical Kerr effect - MOKE) and magnetic properties of thin films and multilayers based on Fe and Pt in unstrained and strained states was studied. The proposed ratio for strain coefficient of MOKE us quantitative characteric this effect. By measuring the Kerr angle for different values of strain and geometry measurements, it is concluded the influence of strain effects on magnetic characteristics of two-layer films and multilayers.

Strain effect and current-induced electroresistance in epitaxial thin films of La 0.9Sr 0.1MnO 3

La 0.9Sr 0.1MnO 3 thin films with the thickness ranging from 10 to 100 nm have been fabricated by pulsed laser deposition. An insulator-metal transition can be developed with decreasing the thickness of film. The strain compression of the lattice induced by substrate may strongly influence the static Jahn-Teller distortion and cause an increase of double exchange interaction. Subsequently, attention was focused on the influence of a dc current on the resistance of these epitaxial thin films in the absence of a magnetic field. A significant reduction of the peak resistances reaches ∼4% and ∼42% for two samples with different thicknesses upon a current density up to 100 KA/cm 2, respectively. The influence of strain effect on the electrical transport was studied. The strain may stabilize the multiphase coexistence and then suppress the current-induced electroresistance in the system.

A General Multiband Transfer-Matrix Energy-Band Calculation Approach for Two-Dimensional Semiconductor Structures

A general and efficient multiband transfer-matrix method based on the envelope-function approximation (k·p method) was developed for the calculation of electronic structures of two-dimensional semiconductor systems. A new searching strategy for the allowed energy in finite structures was adopted to avoid the generally encountered divergence problem of the transfer-matrix method across the classical turning points. A specific continuity condition was selected to ensure the hermicity of the Hamiltonian operator. Electric and magnetic fields as well as strain along any direction can all be included within a unified treatment and at no further expense in calculation. Examples including the in-plane dispersion in quantum wells, the influence of strain effects and electric field on the band structures of quantum wells, and the minibands in superlattices were calculated to illustrate the use of this multiband transfer-matrix scheme.

Structure-Transport Relationships in Fast Ion Conducting Alkali Borate Glasses

AbstractThe effect of CaO substitutions (between 1 and 10% (CaO)2/Li2O) on the transport and physical properties of two fast ion conducting lithium borate glass systems (37.3 mol % Li20, 62.7 mol % Li2O3 and 50 mol % Li2O, 50 mol % Li2O, 50 mol % B2O3) are investigated. Measurements of electrical conductivity, density and glass transition temperature are reported. The influence of strain effects on carrier mobility is examined. Measurements of electrical conductivity and molar volume are extended to a K2O·2B2O3 glass and compared with existing data for corresponding lithium and sodium diborate glasses.
