The Influence of Micronutrients on Growth Performance of Ginger (Zingiber officinale Rosc.) CV. Mahima

The present investigation entitled, “The influence of micronutrients on growth performance of ginger (zingiber officinale) cv. mahima” was conducted at All India Co-ordinated Research Project on Spices, Asond Block, Central Experiment Station, Wakawali, Dr. Balasaheb Sawant Konkan Krishi Vidyapeeth, Dapoli during 2023-24. Experiment was laid out with total nine treatments and three replications each in present study. The experimental findings revealed that the treatment, T1 i.e. RDF + Foliar Spray of ZnSO4 @ 0.5 % recorded better results in number of tillers per platnt (12.57), plant height (77.65 cm), number of leaves per plant (76.03), leaf length (23.25 cm) and leaf width (3.08 cm). Thus, it was concluded that the treatment T1 (RDF + Foliar Spray of ZnSO4 @ 0.5 %) was found to be the best for growth performance of ginger (Zingiber officinale rosc.) under Konkan agroclimatic conditions.

The thyroid gland’s functionality is complex and is influenced by a variety of compounds, notably iodine, selenium, iron, calcium, thiamine (vitamin B1), vitamin B12 and vitamin D. This study aims to elucidate the significance of micronutrients and macronutrients in the functioning of the thyroid gland and explore how nutrient imbalances may lead to various thyroid disorders, including thyroid cancer. Altering operational conditions during protein fermentation to volatile fatty acids modifies the associated bacterial community.

In recent years, the production of volatile fatty acids (VFA) through mixed culture fermentation (MCF) has been gaining attention. Most authors have focused on the fermentation of carbohydrates, while other possible substrates, such as proteins, have not been considered. Moreover, there is little information about how operational parameters affect the microbial communities involved in these processes, even though they are strongly related to reactor performance and VFA selectivity. Hence, this study aimsto evaluate how microbial composition changes according to three different parameters (pH, type of protein and micronutrient addition) during anaerobic fermentation of protein-rich side streams. For this, two continuous stirred tank reactors (CSTR) were fed with two different proteins (casein and gelatine) and operated at different conditions: three pH values (5.0, 7.0 and 9.0) with only macronutrients supplementation and two pH values (5.0 and 7.0) with micronutrients' supplementation as well. Firmicutes, Proteobacteria and Bacteroidetes were the dominant phyla in the two reactors at all operational conditions, but their relative abundance varied with the parameters studied. At pH 7.0 and 9.0, the microbial composition was mainly affected by protein type, while at acidic conditions the driving force was the pH. The influence of micronutrients was dependent on the pH and the protein type, with a special effect on Clostridiales and Bacteroidales populations. Overall, this study shows that the acidogenic microbial community is affected by the three parameters studied and the changes in the microbial community can partially explain the macroscopic results, especially the process selectivity.

Technology of obtaining micronutrient fertilizers based on micronutrient secondary raw materials of the industry

The article presents the research results of obtaining nitrogenphosphorus- calcium-microelement fertilizers by adding suspensions obtained by activating phosphorite with microelement industrial waste in different proportions to the superphosphate mass formed by decomposition of Central Kyzylkum phosphorite flour at different rates of sulfuric acid in laboratory conditions. Experiments were carried out with low-quality phosphorite flour, non-enriched phosphorite flour and washed-burned (thermoconcentrate) phosphorite concentrates (UzDSt 2825:2014) obtained on the basis of phosphorites of the Central Kyzylkum. Also, in order to obtain superphosphate fertilizers with microelements, secondary raw materials with acidic microelements of the РН environment formed during molybdenum processing of Almalyk mining and metallurgical combine joint-stock company were used. Studies have shown that under the influence of micronutrients (copper, zinc, molybdenum, etc.), important physiological and biochemical processes can be controlled, thereby increasing the yield and quality of agricultural products. The use of microelements together with basic fertilizers is an effective and economically important (convenient) agrochemical method. The purpose of the research is to implement new types of phosphoric fertilizers based on incomplete standards of mineral fertilizers and acids, which are widely used in agriculture, or their salt mixtures, using trace element salts and secondary raw materials containing trace elements of hydrometallurgy.

Role of Micronutrients on the Increased Growth and Yield of Mulberry (Morus alba L.) Plants

Moriculture is a significant factor for better production of silk in the field of sericulture. The present study deals with the influence of micronutrients on the increased growth and yield of the mulberry plants [MR2 (Mildew Resistant Variety 2)]. Field experiments comprising of twelve treatments including a controlsupplemented with desired quantity of micronutrients in single or in combination were analysed to study the morphometric and characteristic parameters of the mulberry plant, viz., plant height, shoot length, number of branches and leaves per plant, leaf area and leaf yield. At 45th and 60th day of pruning, maximum plant height was noted in T9(CuSO4 15Kg/ha + ZnSO4 15Kg/ha + FeSO4 30Kg/ha)and T10(CuSO4 20Kg/ha + ZnSO4 20Kg/ha + FeSO4 40Kg/ha) whichincreased by22.33% and 25.8%,respectively over control; maximum shoot lengthwas recorded in T9which increased by26.32% and 30.86%,respectively over control; maximum number of branches was observed in T9which increased by41.62% and 45.75%,respectively over control; maximum number of leaves was notedin T9 which increasedby 27.9% and 31.42%,respectively over control; maximum leaf area was recorded in T9 which increased by 60.59% and 25.39%,respectively over control; and maximum 100 leaf yield and leaf yield/plant was in T9 which increased by118.91% and 136.74%; and 70.71% and 91.07%,respectively over control. The findings of the present study emphasized that supplementation of micronutrients in general and T9 in particular enhanced the growth and yield of mulberry plants.

“Influence of Micro Nutrients and Naphthalene Acetic Acid on Growth, Yield and Economics of Summer Greengram (Vigna radiata L.)”

A field experiment was conducted during Zaid 2022 at Crop Research Farm, Department of Agronomy, SHUATS, Prayagraj (U.P) to determine the “Influence of micronutrients and naphthalene acetic acid on growth, yield and economics of summer greengram (Vigna radiata L.)”. To study treatments consisting of three Micronutrients viz. Zn @ 100 ppm, Boron @ 100 ppm and Mn @ 50 ppm and three levels of Naphthalene acetic acid viz. 30, 40 and 50 ppm. There were 10 treatments, each of which was replicated three times and laid out in a random block design. The results showed that treatment 3 [Zinc (100ppm) + NAA (50ppm)] recorded significantly higher plant height (47.6 cm), higher number of branches/plant (9.00), higher number of leaves/plant (13.60), higher dry weight (7.40g), higher number of nodules/plant (7.6). Whereas, maximum number of pods/plant (29.00), maximum number of seeds/pod (10.27), higher test weight (29.40 g), higher seed yield (1.24t/ha), higher stover yield (2.73 t/ha) and higher harvest index (30.30 %) was recorded in treatment 3 [Zinc (100ppm) + NAA (50ppm)]. Similarly, maximum gross return (86,085.00 INR/ha), higher net return (58,674.00 INR/ha) and highest benefit cost ratio (2.14) was also recorded in treatment 3 [Zinc (100ppm) + NAA (50ppm)] as compared to other treatments.

Nutritional enrichment of tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum L.) through Zinc (Zn) and Boron (B) Fertilization

The influence of micronutrients namely zinc (Zn) and boron (B) with or without farmyard manure (FYM) on growth, yield and quality parameters viz. ascorbic acid and carotene content of tomato was evaluated. A field experiment was conducted with graded doses of Zn (soil and soil + foliar application) and B (soil application) application with or without FYM for the two consecutive years (2012 and 2013). Results revealed that application of Zn and B significantly enhanced fruit yield and different growth parameters as well as plant tissue concentration of Zn and B in tomato. The highest increase in fruit yield over control (27.6%) was observed with the conjoint application of Zn (soil + foliar), B (2.0 kg ha−1) and FYM. Soil application of Zn at higher doses (10 kg ha−1) as well as its application through both soil + foliar method has an edge over control or its application at comparatively lower doses in increasing the fruit yield of tomato. Results further revealed that combined application of Zn and B can significantly increase the important quality parameters viz. carotene and ascorbic acid content in tomato. Such increase in carotene content to the tune of 25 and 35% and ascorbic acid content to the tune of 7 and 30% over control were observed with soil + foliar application of Zn and 2 kg ha−1 B, respectively. Therefore, optimization of Zn and B doses can improve the yield and quality of tomato as well as helps in correcting the micronutrients malnutrition vis-à-vis nutritional disorders in humans by enriching the antioxidants.

Influence of Micronutrients (Boron and Zinc) on Uptake and Availability of Nutrients

An experiment was carried out SKUAST –K in two consecutive years (2016 and 2017) to study the effect of zinc and boron and their interaction on nutrient uptake in onion on nutrient uptake and soil properties of onion. In the experiment it was observed that sole zinc and boron levels, Z3 (7.500 kg Zn ha-1) and B3 (1.500 kg B ha-1) application proved superior in enhancing the uptake of all nutrients but exhibited lowest value in case of phosphorus uptake. It was further observed that interaction of zinc and boron proved superior to their sole applications in increasing uptake of nutrients. Treatment combination Z3B3 (7.500 kg Zn + 1.500 kg B ha-1) recorded significantly maximum value for uptake of nitrogen (113.93 kg ha-1), potassium (67.17 kg ha-1), boron (125.58 g ha-1) and zinc (184.01 g ha-1) but exhibited lowest value in case of phosphorus uptake. Sole application of zinc and boron and their combination exhibited a non-significant influence on soil pH, electric conductivity, organic carbon (%) and organic matter (%). Application of zinc (7.500 kg ha-1) and boron (1.500 kg ha-1) improved the availability of all nutrients except of phosphorus availability. Interactions of zinc and boron, proved synergistic in augmenting available nutrients except for phosphorus availability.

Influence of Micronutrients in The Alleviation of Immunotoxicity Induced by Poly Aromatic Hydrocarbons Naphthalene and Anthracene

Diet plays a major role in fine tuning the immune system and to combat against dreadful diseases and infections. Micronutrients form an important part of balanced diet and enable efficient functioning of the immune system. Vitamins, minerals and trace elements comprise the major category of micronutrients. Deficiency of micronutrients could culminate in suppression of both adaptive and innate immunity leading to altered immune homeostasis. Anthracene and naphthalene are two environmental pollutants which are highly toxic, carcinogenic poly cyclic aromatic hydrocarbons that gains entry in to the human system through multiple modes. The aim of the current study is to evaluate the potential of four dietary micronutrients Vitamin A, Vitamin C, Folic acid and Zinc to counteract the immunotoxic effects of naphthalene and anthracene on Murine macrophage cell line RAW 264.7. Several cell based assays like MTT assay, LDH leakage assay, Crystal violet test, DCFDA analysis (for ROS generation) and Rhodamine B assay (for measurement of mitochondrial membrane potential) were taken as end point indicators to support the findings of the study. The results showed that, both naphthalene and anthracene triggered the production of ROS, altered mitochondrial membrane potential, and induced strong immunosuppressive effects. The immunosuppressive effect was found to be more prevalent in anthracene treated cells. Pre-treatment with the micronutrients exhibited considerable protection against naphthalene and anthracene induced changes in the cells primarily through the antioxidant and immunomodulatory effects. The overall protective effects offered against naphthalene and anthracene was found to be superior in the Vitamin A treated cells as compared Vitamin C, Folic acid and Zinc treated cells. Prolonged immunosuppression reduces immune surveillance and hence could activate oncogenic signals leading to carcinogenic conditions. Regular micronutrient supplementation in the diet could help considerably to negate or prevent these deleterious conditions.

Influence of micronutrients on yield and economics of bitter gourd (Momordica charantia)

The experiment was conducted during Kharif seasons of 2019-20 at AICRP (Vegetables) RHREC, Dharwad, Karnataka. Result reveled that significantly higher fruit length (13.56 cm), average fruit weight (110 g), Number of fruit per plant (17.28), yield (127.48/ha), while significantly lower fruit length (10.80 cm), average fruit weight (84.33 g), Number of fruit per plant (13.28), yield (96.45/ha) and The maximum cost benefit ratio of 2.38 was obtained by foliar spray of mixture of all the micronutrients (T8) recording Rs 190863 /ha as net return and gross return of Rs 271200/ha. The lowest B:C ratio was found in control (1.66).

The influence of micronutrients on the productivity of corn during cultivation on green mass in the southern zone of Amur region

The following paper reviews the results of 2017-2019 studies of the influence of types and methods of micronutrient fertilizers application: zinc sulfate, cobalt sulfate and ammonium molybdate on the growth, development and productivity of corn. The studies were conducted in the southern agricultural zone of Amur region on the experimental field of Far Eastern State Agrarian University, located in the village of Gribskoye (Blagoveshchensk district). The object of research was a hybrid Mashuk 175MV (FAO 170) - an early-ripening three-linear hybrid of universal use. Treatment of seeds and plants of corn by microfertilizers was carried out using a solution with a concentration of 0.1%. As a result of studies, it was found that the use of microfertilizers during plants vegetation more effectively affects the accumulation of dry matter than seeds treatment and double treatment of seeds and vegetative plants. When seeds treatment, the most effective variant is the combined use of microelements and when treatment during vegetation is the variant with using cobalt. The use of microfertilizers showed a significant increase in leaf surface area for all variants relative to the background variant. The greatest effect was shown by the variant with the use of cobalt in the seeds treatment and spraying vegetation of plants. The combined use of microfertilizers in the seeds treatment and spraying during vegetation has shown a good increase the yield of green mass of corn. The greatest effect was shown in seeds treatment by cobalt and spraying the plants during vegetation.

Cellular Stress Conditions as a Strategy to Increase Carbohydrate Productivity in Spirulina platensis

Spirulina platensis, when grown under stress, may alter its metabolic pathways, leading to carbohydrate accumulation. Research on the combined effects of stress factors such as UV radiation, photoperiod, and light, and the influence of micronutrients (Ca, Fe, and Mg) on microalgae carbohydrate composition is scarce. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the effects of combined cell stress factors on the microalgal growth and biochemical composition of S. platensis, to apply the biomass in the context of biorefineries. Assays were performed at two cultivation stages: in the first stage, Zarrouk medium (50%) was used until the end of the exponential growth phase (18 days) and, in the second stage, the cells obtained in the first stage were centrifuged and recultivated in 20% Zarrouk’s medium under physical (UV, photoperiod/light, NaCl) and nutritional stress (limitation of Ca, Fe, and Mg concentrations in 20% Zarrouk). The highest carbohydrate yields (27.84 mg L−1 day−1) were obtained in the photoperiod/light intensity-stressed cultures in the medium with nutrient limitation. The study outcomes showed the methods to increase carbohydrate synthesis in cultures under optimized conditions. Our results showed that nutrient limitation by 20% Zarrouk combined with higher light intensity (67.5 μmol photons m−2 s−1) and photoperiod (18-h/6-h light/dark cycles) is an efficient strategy to achieve higher intracellular concentrations (59.71%) and carbohydrate yields (55.85 mg L−1 day−1) in a discontinuous culture method.

Suitability of urban waste land use in relation to heavy metal and micronutrient influence on soil and green amaranth production in Southeast Nigeria

An assessment of the impact of long term (>20 years) MSW disposal on soil properties and their suitability for crop productivity was carried out in Anambra and Enugu States of southeast Nigeria. Four dumpsites were selected (two in each state) and, 12 soil auger samples (2 sampling points at 3 depths and 2 repeated measures) each were collected at incremental depth intervals of 0-20, 20-30, and 30-40cm were collected at the dump sites and adjacent non-dumpsites situated 100 meters away from the dumpsites; The auger samples were used for the determination of Fe, B, Pb and Zn content of the soil. Forty Amaranthus spinosus biomass samples were collected from both dump and non-dumpsites in the four locations and also assayed for Fe, B, Pb, and Zn content. Results showed that the mean values of Fe concentration in the dumpsites are between 4.48 – 11.57 mg kg-1 whereas B ranged from 1.19 – 6.73 mg kg-1; Pb ranged from 0.36 – 2.19 mg kg-1 and Zn averaged from 17.2 – 54.0 mg kg-1. The values of these elements were higher than those of the corresponding non-dump sites by between 6-100 %. Pb and Zn with values of 2.0 and 0.06 mg kg-1 respectively in the amaranth plants in the dumpsite soils were higher than the permissive limits for heavy metals in vegetables. Despite the toxicity variance of the elements in the dumpsites and non-dumpsite soils and vegetables, the calculated hazard quotient (ecological risks) values of these elements were less than unity (Q.H.Q < 1), suggesting that harmful effects are not likely to occur in the study areas. Public awareness creation of the dangers of plant cultivation in the unmanaged dumpsite, including health implication of heavy metal pollution and entry into the food chain as well as controlling sources of municipal wastes with appropriate legislations are recommended.

Micronutrient Influence in Thyroid Function: A Review

AbstractThe thyroid produces and secretes adequate amounts of hormones that regulate various physiological processes, including growth, development, metabolism, and reproductive function. The production and metabolism of thyroid hormones are dependent on micronutrients such as iodine, selenium, zinc and iron. Iodine is essential for the proper synthesis of thyroid hormones. The risk of iodine deficiency is high in places where the food consumed comes from iodine-deficient sources. To avoid complications, various government strategies have been developed to enrich food with this element. Selenium is incorporated in the deiodinases, which are enzymes that also play an essential role in the metabolism of thyroid hormones, in addition to contributing to the antioxidant defense in the thyroid. Zinc participates in the process of deiodination, in addition to being necessary for the T3 receptor to adopt its biologically active confirmation. Iron is found in hemeproteins, including thyroid peroxidase (TPO), which participates in the first two stages of thyroid hormone biosynthesis. Deficiencies of these elements can impair thyroid function. In general, the influence of micronutrients on thyroid function reveals the need for more research to increase scientific knowledge so that preventive and therapeutic measures can be taken regarding thyroid dysfunctions, to maintain a healthy thyroid.

Influence of Micronutrients on the Food Consumption Rate and Silk Production of Bombyx mori (Lepidoptera: Bombycidae) Reared on Mulberry Plants Grown in a Mountainous Agro-Ecological Condition.

The study involves analyzing the performance of bivoltine Bombyx mori larvae reared on different host plants varieties. The consumption rate (CR) of different strains of B. mori was high when fed with Jorhat and TR10 mulberry plant varieties. Jorhat and TR10 mulberry plant varieties were found to contain significant amount of calcium, potassium, magnesium and phosphorus. Local (Hmute) mulberry plant variety had high amount of protein, carbohydrate and reducing sugar. Majority of the B. mori strains reared on Jorhat and TR10 mulberry plant varieties had high level of fibroin protein which resulted in increased silk productivity than those larvae reared with other mulberry varieties. The filament length was higher when reared on Jorhat and TR10 mulberry plant varieties. CSR4 × CSR2, FC1 × FC2, and FC2 × FC1 strains reared on Jorhat and TR10 mulberry plant varieties performed well in terms of economic parameters. Proteins and other nutrients in combination with high levels of micronutrients are very much essential for better silk quality. The present study attempted to identify the most suitable host plants for silkworm rearing under mountainous agro-ecological conditions which can lead to sustainable production of silk in relation to physiological and economic parameters.

Influence of micronutrients on growth dynamics, fruit yield and quality of Arka Neelamani grape

An investigation was carried out at Bankura, West Bengal on 4-year-old vines of Arka Neelamani plantedat 3 m × 2 m on Y-trellis with the objective to study the effect of micronutrients on growth dynamics, yieldand fruit quality. There were 11 treatments viz., ZnSO4 at 0.1 & 0.2%; borax at 0.2 & 0.3%; FeSO4 at 0.1 & 0.15%; CuSO4 at 0.1 & 0.15%; MnSO4 at 0.1 & 0.15% and control (water spray). The experiment was conductedfollowing randomized block design having three replications with three vines in each replication. Results ofthree consecutive years of investigation revealed that micronutrients had significant role in respect of growthdynamics, fruit yield, quality improvement and maintaining the vine vigour. Among the micronutrients, boraxand zinc at 0.2% concentration of each played dominant role on various aspect of growth morphogenesis, yieldand fruit quality. The treatments not only gave higher fruit production in respect of yield (7.2–8.5 kg), bunchweight (233–289 g) and 10-berry weight (29.1–29.2 g) but also improved the fruit quality in respect of higher TSS/acid ratio (35.4–38.7). The treatments helped for better growth morphogenesis, which resulted in more fruitingspurs (84.1–91.4%) for the current year crop and renewal spurs (85.7–86.2%) for the next year crop. Besides, the treatments maintained the better plant vigour by producing less number of dead shoots.

The impact of micronutrient status on health: correlation network analysis to understand the role of micronutrients in metabolic-inflammatory processes regulating homeostasis and phenotypic flexibility

BackgroundVitamins and carotenoids are key micronutrients facilitating the maintenance of health, as evidenced by the increased risk of disease with low intake. Optimal phenotypic flexibility, i.e., the ability to respond to a physiological challenge, is an essential indicator of health status. Therefore, health can be measured by applying a challenge test and monitoring the response of relevant phenotypic processes. In this study, we assessed the correlation of three fat-soluble vitamins, (i.e., vitamin A or retinol, vitamin D3, two homologues of vitamin E) and four carotenoids (i.e., α-carotene, β-carotene, β-cryptoxanthin, and lycopene), with characteristics of metabolic and inflammatory parameters at baseline and in response to a nutritional challenge test (NCT) in a group of 36 overweight and obese male subjects, using proteomics and metabolomics platforms. The phenotypic flexibility concept implies that health can be measured by the ability to adapt to a NCT, which may offer a more sensitive way to assess changes in health status of healthy subjects.ResultsCorrelation analyses of results after overnight fasting revealed a rather evenly distributed network in a number of relatively strong correlations per micronutrient, with minor overlap between correlation profiles of each compound. Correlation analyses of challenge response profiles for metabolite and protein parameters with micronutrient status revealed a network that is more skewed towards α-carotene and γ-tocopherol suggesting a more prominent role for these micronutrients in the maintenance of phenotypic flexibility. Comparison of the networks revealed that there is merely overlap of two parameters (inositol and oleic acid (C18:1)) affirming that there is a specific biomarker response profile upon NCT.ConclusionsOur study shows that applying the challenge test concept is able to reveal previously unidentified correlations between specific micronutrients and health-related processes, with potential relevance for maintenance of health that were not observed by correlating homeostatic measurements. This approach will contribute to insights on the influence of micronutrients on health and help to create efficient micronutrient intervention programs.

Influence of Micronutrients on Growth and Yield of Banana

The study was conducted by Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Tamil Nadu Agricultural University during 201112 to study the effect on application of different micronutrient formulations on growth, yield and quality of banana cultivar poovan. The four different formulation T1: No application of micronutrients, T2: Foliar Application of FeSo4 0.20%, ZnSo4 0.5%, CuSo4 0.2% and borax 0.1% at 3, 5, 7 months after planting, T3: Soil Application of NRCB banana Sakthi at the rate 10g per plant on 3MAP. T4: Application Arka banana special @ 250 ml of 0.5%, solution to the soil followed by foliar application of 0.5%, on 5, 6, 7, 8 months after planting in five farmers field at Kammankadu village of Pudukkottai district during June, 2011. The results revealed that the highest pseudostem height of 2.48m, pseudostem girth of 76 cm, number of leaves per plant (18 nos.), leaf area index(4.72), finger weight (123g) bunch weight (20.10kg) and TSS (16.6o Brix) were recorded with application of Arka banana special micronutrients followed by foliar application micronutrients and soil application. The Arka banana special application through soil application 250 ml solution (%) on 45days after planting, followed by foliar application 0.5% on 5, 6, 7 and at shooting on hands recorded significantly highest yield (45.23 t/ha) over other two micronutrient application.
