Influence of magnetic nanoparticles on dielectric properties of Shell oil transformer oil

The influence of two types of nano-impurities MF1 and MF2 on the dielectric properties of Shell oil transformer oil at the temperature 293 K has been studied. It has been shown that these magnetic impurities have no significant effect on the dielectric permittivity value of Shell oil, but more significantly increase its conductivity, in so doing, the impurity MF1 increases the conductivity of transformer oil 4 times larger than the impurity MF2. It has been ascertained that the low-frequency dielectric relaxation appearing in the studied samples can be described by the Cole–Cole equation. The parameters of this relaxation process and the influence of different types of magnetic impurities on them have been estimated.

Influence of magnetic nanoparticles on cells of Ehrlich ascites carcinoma

The effect of magnetic nanoparticles coated with arabinogalactan on the viability of Ehrlich ascites carcinoma (EAC) cells was studied. The nanoparticles were studied by transmission electron microscopy, Mössbauer spectroscopy, IR spectroscopy, and ferromagnetic resonance. A correlation between the proportion of dead EAC cells in suspension and the intensity of the EPR signal of dinitrosyl iron complexes was found. This result may be due to the presence of NO molecules.

Distribution of Ferrihydrite Nanoparticles in the Body and Possibility of Controlling Them in an Isolated Organ by a Permanent Magnetic Field.

We studied the distribution of ferrihydrite nanoparticles isolated from bacteria Klebsiella oxytoca in the whole body in vivo and in a cultured isolated organ (liver). The possibility of controlling these nanoparticles in the body using a magnetic field was assessed. One hour after intravenous injection of ferrihydrite nanoparticles to mice, their accumulation was observed in the liver, lungs, and kidneys. Experiment with cultured isolated rat liver showed that these nanoparticles can be controlled by a magnetic field and the influence of magnetic nanoparticles on the liver over 1 h does not lead to destruction of liver cells associated with the release of the marker enzyme AST. These results show the possibility of using magnetic nanoparticles as a system for controlled drug delivery in the body.

Influence of Magnetic Nanoparticles on Modified Polypyrrole/m-Phenylediamine for Adsorption of Cr(VI) from Aqueous Solution.

A novel, modified polypyrrole/m-phenylediamine (PPy–mPD) composite, decorated with magnetite (Fe3O4) nanoparticles, and prepared via an in-situ oxidative polymerisation, was investigated. The PPy–mPD/Fe3O4 nanocomposite was employed for the removal of highly toxic oxyanion hexavalent chromium Cr(VI) from an aqueous solution. The structure and successful formation of the PPy–mPD/Fe3O4 nanocomposite was confirmed and investigated using various techniques. The presence of Fe3O4 was confirmed by high resolution transmission electron microscopy, with an appearance of Fe lattice fringes. The estimation of the saturation magnetisation of the nanocomposite, using a vibrating sample magnetometer, was observed to be 6.6 emu/g. In batch adsorption experiments, PPy–mPD/Fe3O4 nanocomposite (25 mg) was able to remove 99.6% of 100 mg/L of Cr(VI) at pH 2 and 25 °C. Adsorption isotherms were investigated at different Cr(VI) concentration (100–600 mg/L) and temperature (15–45 °C). It was deduced that adsorption follows the Langmuir model, with a maximum adsorption capacity of 555.6 mg/g for Cr(VI) removal. Furthermore, isotherm data were used to calculate thermodynamic values for Gibbs free energy, enthalpy change and entropy change, which indicated that Cr(VI) adsorption was spontaneous and endothermic in nature. Adsorption–desorption experiments revealed that the nanocomposite was usable for two consecutive cycles with no significant loss of adsorption capacity. This research demonstrates the application potential for the fascinating properties of PPy–mPD/Fe3O4 nanocomposite as a highly efficient adsorbent for the removal of heavy metal ions from industrial wastewater.

Abstract 246: Glioblastoma cell-modified cell membrane lipid-extracted nanoparticles (CLENs) for imaging and treatment: Influence of magnetic nanoparticle on physiochemical properties of CLENs, cellular uptake, and cytotoxicity

Abstract Background: Glioblastoma multiforme (GBM), located in the cerebral hemispheres of the brain, is the most aggressive form of cancer. Surgery associated with chemotherapy with radiation treatment is the defined way to treat the disease. The delivery of chemotherapeutic agents frequently result in serious side effects. To address this issue we have taken the first steps in the development of CLENs (cell membrane lipid-extracted nanoliposomes) to enhance selective delivery of drugs to the brain. Method: The CLENs used for the experiments were composed of various ratios of DOPC, DOTAP, cholesterol, and lipid extract (LE) material derived from the target cells (i.e., U87-MG), and DPPE-PEG5000 (PEG). Studies include the determination of drug (cisplatin) loading, magnetite (MAG-C) loading in CLENs, quantitative studies for particle size, zeta potential, SQUID (superconducting quantum interference device) measurements, and fluorescence detection to study cellular interactions. Results: The average size for the CLENs fell within the range of 130 to 190 nm. The zeta potential reported for CLENs was negatively-charged. The inclusion of 15mol % LE resulted in the most significant cellular uptake by target cell U87-MG. Overall, the uptake by these cells was less compared to CLENS previously published for other organ tissue environments such as with breast tissue. The inclusion of cationic lipid DOTAP in CLENs did not alter the size distribution; however, the values for zeta potential increased from -8 ± 5 to 12 ± 6 mv. The additional inclusion of DOTAP in CLENs increased cellular uptake approximately 4-fold compared to CLENs without DOTAP (fluorescence intensity (A.U) from 145 ± 52 to 525 ± 49)). The inclusion of DOTAP increased the efficiency of loading Cisplatin in CLENs by approximately 30%. Studies involving the incorporation of MAG-C in U87-MG CLENs are currently underway, as well magnetization studies involving SQUID. Conclusion: All CLENs demonstrated practical physicochemical properties similar to conventional liposomes. The cellular uptake results suggested that cellular uptake of CLENs in vitro, although relatively low overall, varied according to the total LE content. Influence of Magnetic Nanoparticles on PISA Preparation of Poly(Methacrylic Acid)-b-Poly(Methylmethacrylate) Nano-Objects.

This article presents the synthesis of poly(methacrylic acid)-b-poly(methyl methacrylate) diblock copolymer via polymerization-induced self-assembly in the presence of iron-oxide nanoparticles. Detailed phase diagrams with and without inorganic nanoparticles were constructed. Scanning transmission electron microscopy and energy dispersive X-ray photometry studies confirme the decoration of the polymeric nanoparticles with the iron-oxide nanoparticles. These hybrid nanoparticles were used to prepare porous thin film membranes by spin coating. Finally, the magneto-responsive properties of the membranes were assessed using water filtration tests in the presence and absence of a magnetic field.

Applicability of Ferromagnetic Nanoparticles in the Retention of Heavy Metals from Aqueous Solutions

In this paper are presented the experimental results obtained in the study of applicability of ferromagnetic nanoparticles in the retention of heavy metals from aqueous solutions. The influence of magnetic nanoparticles based on iron, cobalt and nickel on turbidity, pH, permanganate index, aluminum, copper, cadmium and lead was studied. The study shows that conventional water treatment systems combined with acrylic polymer can be improved by adding magnetic nanoparticles. Experimental data has shown that the presence of magnetic nanoparticles based on iron, cobalt and/or nickel increases the efficiency of the treatment system and is reflected by all analyzed parameters.

Detection of individual iron-oxide nanoparticles with vertical and lateral sensitivity using domain wall nucleation in CoFeB/Pt nanodevices

We present new studies of the characteristics and detection ability of nanoscale sensors based on domain wall nucleation within perpendicularly magnetised ultrathin CoFeB/Pt films. A combination of MFM imaging and anomalous Hall effect transport measurements were used to verify and characterise the behaviour of fabricated devices. After initial characterisation, the influence of magnetic nanoparticles on device behaviour was studied using individual iron oxide (FeOx) particles mounted on modified atomic force microscopy probes. We demonstrate the successful detection of particles ranging in diameter between 2.8 μm and 100 nm. In the case of the 2.8 μm particle, we have mapped the signal amplitude produced at a variety of distances from the sensor. We find that the particle’s influence may be detected at separations up to 700 nm. Furthermore, we demonstrate a method for resolving the location of a particle with respect to the centre of the device, providing a lateral sensing ability.

The Influence of Magnetic Nanoparticles’ Size on Trapping Efficiency in a Microfluidic Device

Separation techniques in microfluidic devices using magnetic fields are well-known in biomedical applications in disease diagnosis like cancer, drug delivery, and hyperthermia. In this work, a microfluidic system is investigated. Here magnetic nanoparticles are separated from their medium using magnetic force. The whole microfluidic device for separation of functionalized magnetic beads is composed of a fluidic part and a magnetic part. The diameters of applied nanoparticles are 90 nm, 200 nm and 750 nm. In this method, magnetic nanoparticles are injected into a microchannel, the permanent magnet is located under the channel and the magnetic field which is produced by permanent magnet is applied to the nanoparticles, so the magnetic nanoparticles are integrated above the permamnet magnet. Trajectory of particles, velocity, and the location in which magnetic nanoparticles are captured are obtained.

Effect of Nickel: Zinc Ratio in Nickel-Zinc-Ferrite Nanoparticles as Surfactant on Recovery Efficiency in Enhanced Oil Recovery

Integration of nanoparticles in enhanced oil recovery (EOR) has been intensively studied in recent years due to their unique properties owing to the nanoscale dimensions, rendering them to have different properties in comparison with its bulk material. Application of magnetic nanoparticles such as ferrites was able to exploit their rheological properties as a chain-like structure formed due to dipole-dipole alignment with the applied magnetic field. Ferromagnetic nanoparticles had shown an increment in the oil recovery under the irradiation of an EM wave. In this research, the influence of magnetic nanoparticles nickel-zinc-ferrite, Ni1-xZnxFe2O2 in the form of nanofluids on the recovery efficiency in EOR was studied. Nickel-zinc-ferrite magnetic nanoparticles with various values of x were synthesized to observe the effect of nickel to zinc ratio on recovery efficiency. The nanoparticles were characterized using X-ray Diffraction (XRD) and Vibrating Sample Magnetometer (VSM). Coreflooding experiments were conducted where the nanofluids were injected into the compacted sand saturated with crude oil under EM irradiation. The amount of oil recovered from the core was evaluated. VSM tests shows that the sample with x = 0.5 had the highest magnetization of 52.6 emu/g. The nanofluids prepared from the sample also achieved the highest crude oil recovery of 26.07% of the residual oil in place (ROIP).

Influence of the physical and chemical properties of magnetic nanoparticles on their performance in a chemiluminescence immunoassay

ObjectivesMagnetic nanoparticles (MNPs) are important carriers in immunoassays. In this study, we investigated the influence of the physical and chemical properties of MNPs on their performance in a detection process. Design and methodsA comparative study of the properties of two MNPs with sizes of 200nm and 1μm (MNP-200nm and MNP-1μm, respectively) was conducted using the following four aspects: nonspecific adsorption to proteins (IgG was used as a model protein), influence of magnetic nanoparticles on the chemiluminescence signal, response speed to an external magnetic field, and intensity of the detection signal. ResultsMNP-1μm exhibited lower nonspecific adsorption to IgG in serum, a weaker interference with the chemiluminescence signal, and a higher response speed to the external magnetic field than the same amount of MNP-200nm. An automated chemiluminescence immunoassay system based on MNP-1μm was also established. ConclusionsMNP-1μm acts as an excellent carrier in an automated chemiluminescence immunoassay system for the analysis of serum samples from clinical patients.

Study of mesoporous silica/magnetite systems in drug controlled release

Ordered mesoporous materials like SBA-15 have a network of channels and pores with well-defined size in the nanoscale range. This particular silica matrix pore architecture makes them suitable for hosting a broad variety of compounds in very promising materials in a range of applications, including drug release magnetic carriers. In this work, magnetic nanoparticles embedded into mesoporous silica were prepared in two steps: first, magnetite was synthesized by oxidation-precipitation method, and next, the magnetic nanoparticles were coated with mesoporous silica by using nonionic block copolymer surfactants as structure-directing agents. The materials were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), N(2) adsorption, and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The influence of magnetic nanoparticles on drug release kinetics was studied with cisplatin, carboplatin, and atenolol under in vitro conditions in the absence and in the presence of an external magnetic field (0.25 T) by using NdFeB permanent magnet. The constant external magnetic field did not affect drug release significantly. The low-frequency alternating magnetic field had a large influence on the cisplatin release profile.
