A method is developed for solving the transient problem of the sudden appearance of an infinite row of parallel cracks in a stretched medium of saturated porous material. The general equations of Biot’s theory in conjunction with the integral and Laplace transforms are used to reduce the problem to that of solving the Fredholm integral equation. The numerical results in terms of Mode I dynamic stress intensity factor k1 are computed for various ratios of the crack width to crack spacing to determine the interaction effect of neighboring cracks. The influence of pore fluid on the dynamic stress intensity factor is investigated by varying the values of viscosity-to-permeability ratio, and the obtained results are compared with those of the corresponding dry medium.
