METHODS This study consists of 43 male patients diagnosed as erectile dysfunction according to IIEF-5 assessment. Every patient underwent a detailed ophthalmological examination including; visual acuity, colour vision, intraocular pressure, macular thickness and volume measurements with optical coherence tomography at 9 zones of foveal, parafoveal and perifoveal areas. Fourty three patients used sildenafil citrate 50 mg p.o 2–3 times/week for a month. The patients were evaluated at the first week and at the end of the treatment. RESULTS After 1 week of treatment the visual acuity, colour vision, intraocular pressure values did not change significantly compared to pretreatment measures. The macular thickness and volume assesments with optic coherence tomography did not differ significantly in foveal, parafoveal areas, parafoveal superior hemisphere, parafoveal inferior hemisphere, parafoveal temporal, superior, nasal and inferior quadrants. The decrement in macular thickness of −1.39±4.45 μm was found to be statistically sigificant in superior perifoveal quadrant (p=0.046) of the left eye measurements. Macular volume assesment also showed statistically significant difference with a 0.008±0. 026 mm3 of decrement in perifoveal superior quadrant of the left eye measurements (p=0.034). No statistically significant difference was found in the measurements made after 1 month of duration. CONCLUSIONS Sildenafil citrate treatment did not lead to significant difference following administration of 2–3 times weekly in therapeutic dosage in visual acuity, colour vision, intraocular pressure, anterior segment and fundus examinations, macular thickness and macular volume in patients whom are treated for erectile dysfunction after 1 week and 1 month of treatment duration. © 2011 by American Urological Association Education and Research, Inc.FiguresReferencesRelatedDetails Volume 185Issue 4SApril 2011Page: e676 Advertisement Copyright & Permissions© 2011 by American Urological Association Education and Research, Inc.MetricsAuthor Information Elif Damar Ankara, Turkey More articles by this author Yasin Yoklu Ankara, Turkey More articles by this author Altug Tuncel Ankara, Turkey More articles by this author Melih Balci Ankara, Turkey More articles by this author Saban Simsek Ankara, Turkey More articles by this author Ali Atan Ankara, Turkey More articles by this author Expand All Advertisement Advertisement PDF downloadLoading ...
