Company management based on key performance indicators: Industry overview

Key performance indicators (KPIs) act as a specific indicator of productivity, and reflect the degree of implementation of goals and objectives that have been set for specific employees, departments, or the organization as a whole. There are different key performance indicators depending on the scope of the organization. In any case, as a rule, indicators are divided into different groups to optimize the process of developing an organization’s strategic plan. For organizations, depending on the field of activity, the main KPIs and industry performance indicators are identified, the use of which is designed to increase the efficiency of activities, increase profits and motivation of employees. An important point in optimizing the company’s activities is the formation of an understanding among employees that the achievement of their goals depends on the achievement of the goals of the organization as a whole, since payments of additional financial incentives are made from the profit of the organization. Thus, KPI acts not only as a motivation system for employees, but also reflects the degree of achievement of goals by the business as a whole. Using the example of the gold mining industry, construction, transport and a number of other sectors of the national economy, the main key performance indicators are determined. It is concluded that in addition to the industry specifics, it is very important to take into account the specifics of a particular company when forming a KPI system.

ENGINEERING AND TECHNICAL ASSESSMENT OF THE COMPETITIVENESS OF UKRAINIAN MECHANICAL ENGINEERING ENTERPRISES BASED ON THE APPLICATION OF REGRESSION MODELS

The characteristic features of engineering products are revealed. Average industry performance indicators of mechanical engineering enterprises in Ukraine were formed. The competitiveness of mechanical engineering enterprises was studied. The integral indicator of the competitiveness of mechanical engineering enterprises in Ukraine was evaluated. It has been established that the competitiveness industry, despite certain profits received by enterprises, is in a systemic, predictable crisis and only individual enterprises that maintain their own line of economic behavior are successful, increase competitiveness and have prospects for further economic growth.

ASSESSMENT OF THE STATE AND TRENDS IN THE IMPLEMENTATION OF INNOVATIVE TECHNOLOGICAL SOLUTIONS IN BREEDING DAIRY FARMS OF UKRAINE

The global dairy sector has been significantly impacted in recent years, with experts assessing the consequences as a serious threat to the food security of the world's population. The biggest destabilising factors for the industry were the effects of the pandemic, war, inflation and high energy prices. Despite the steady increase in demand for milk, there is currently no trend towards a recovery in production growth. Dairy producers are under constant pressure from the above factors, resulting in lower margins, difficult access to competitive capital, and constant adaptation to new regulations. In the current political, economic and climatic conditions, one of the possible ways to increase the profitability of the dairy industry as a major incentive to increase production is the widespread introduction of innovative technological approaches to milk production.
 The purpose of the article is to assess the state and trends in the implementation of innovative technological solutions in dairy farming in Ukraine on the example of Ukrainian breeding dairy farms.
 Research results. In order to ensure the survival of the national dairy industry during the active military phase, as well as its rapid development in the post-war period, created a Roadmap for the restoration of the dairy industry. The Roadmap is primarily aimed at ensuring sustainable long-term development of the dairy industry; creation and operation of highly efficient and financially sustainable dairy farms; stimulating the construction of modern dairy enterprises with widespread introduction of innovations aimed at increasing the international competitiveness of the industry.
 Our research has shown that in recent years, the dynamics of modernisation processes in Ukrainian dairy farming has accelerated. In particular, in the Holstein herds, the productivity of cows kept in dairy complexes increased by 1882 kg per cow, or 470 kg per year on average, in 2016–2020.
 At the same time, increasing the efficiency of milk production through the introduction of innovative technological solutions will result in a mega-trend of farm consolidation in the future. For example, in the US, 50.3% of milk is produced at industrial large-scale dairies with more than 1.000 cows, where the latest science and technology is used. The influence of the factor of production concentration on the efficiency of the use of breeding animals of dairy and dairy-meat cattle breeds was studied. The average number of cows in the controlled breeding herds of dairy breeds in Ukraine (n = 350) in 2019 was 400 cows. The average milk yield per cow was 7.540 kg. According to the results of the analysis, as the number of cows in the farms grows, economic indicators such as revenue, profitability, and profitability increase.
 Conclusions. In recent years, a quarter of breeding farms for the most numerous specialised dairy breeds have been involved in the innovation process in pedigree dairy cattle breeding, with more than 50% of the number of breeding cows of these breeds concentrated there. The small herds used traditional technologies for keeping and using cows.
 The introduction of the latest innovative technological solutions for industrial milk production ensures an increase in revenues from its sale due to the growth of cow productivity. As the concentration of cows increases, the industry's performance indicators, such as milk yield, feed intake and the intensity of land use, are also increasing. The industry's profitability is increasing from 14.7% to over 24.2%.
 When creating new livestock complexes in the post-war period, the best international and domestic experience of the industry should be taken into account. The development of the dairy farming sector should be aimed at breeding specialised dairy cattle breeds and introducing innovative technologies for their maintenance, feeding and operation. Domestic specialised dairy breeds are at the level of the best European analogues in terms of productivity in industrial dairy complexes, and are superior in terms of reproduction and health, are economically viable and should become the basis for further development of the dairy cattle industry in Ukraine.

THE MACRO-PRUDENTIAL POLICY AND BANK NON-PERFORMING ASSETS IN INDONESIA

<em><span lang="EN-US">This study examines the effect of the Macro-prudential Intermediation Ratio (MIR) as an instrument of Bank Indonesia's macro-prudential regulation on Non-Performing Assets (NPA) as one of the banking industry performance indicators in Indonesia. In addition, this study also examines several other independent variables such as bank assets as an indicator of bank size, Bank Indonesia interest rates (BI rate), and inflation as macroeconomic indicators and their effect on NPA. The NPA, MIR, and bank asset data used in this study consist of 109 commercial banks operating in Indonesia during the period from January 2015 to December 2020. This study uses an Ordinary Least Square (OLS) analysis approach by undertaking classical assumption tests and statistical tests. The results show that (1) MIR, bank assets, BI rate, and inflation simultaneously have a significant effect on NPA (2) Partially, bank assets have a negative and significant effect on NPA while other variables including macro-prudential policy have no significant effect on NPA (3) Variable MIR, bank assets, BI rate, and inflation can explain variations of NPA variable by 34% (4) Larger bank size encourages prudent financing and reduces NPA.</span></em>

It is shown that the development of the world coal market in the long term is determined by the intensity of the energy transition process. It has been determined that the traditional markets for Russian coal in Japan and the Republic of Korea may be lost by 2030 because of the active policies of these countries to transition their economies to carbon neutrality, related to the large-scale reduction of coal generation. The market niche for Russian coal in China in the 2035–2040 period may also be significantly reduced, both because of a general contraction in demand as the economy transitions to carbon neutrality, and as a result of increased competition with other suppliers and the country’s own production. This is also due to increased competition with other suppliers and our own production in the country India is the most promising market for Russian coal in the long term. Sanctions restrictions imposed on the Russian fuel and energy complex, partially supported by Japan and the Republic of Korea. They cause even higher rates of abandonment of Russian coal than expected because of the energy transition. China and India did not support the sanctions restrictions, which, in the face of the loss of traditional sales markets for Russia, made it possible to reorient most of the flows. The Far Eastern coal industry is characterized by more favorable development conditions compared to other regions of Russia. As a result, high industry performance indicators are observed for 2022 and 9 months of 2023, and project development continues. Why a New Name? The Role of Asset Characteristics and Broad Market Trends in Predicting Brand Affiliation Change in Hotels

Brand affiliation is a critical choice in the hotel business. The decision to change brand (i.e., “rebranding”) may be determined by asset-level private information as well as publicly known information related to the property. In this article, we focus on nonprivate information, such as property features as well as market and industry performance indicators. Using the semiparametric and parametric hazard models, we show that variables such as hotels’ past record of affiliation changes, age, class, type, and location help predict the likelihood of rebranding. This analysis should increase the ability of industry practitioners to define rebranding risk and to use it as a competitive advantage.

Wellness tourism in Kerala: A study on the tourist perception in terms of therapeutic and industry performance indicators

The health tourism sector which has pegged at $3 billion business in 2015 is estimated to grow by $9 billion worth opportunity by 2020 and is trending with a positive growth trajectory. The Kerala Tourism statistics has revealed that around 3.58% of foreign tourists who visited the state have opted for Ayurveda and similar wellness treatments. Unlike the other populous types of Tourism where the demand is driven based on lower price considerations and similar orientations, the Wellness Tourism demand is driven out of authentic treatment facilities, professionally administered services, international accreditations & reputation, extent of rejuvenation & recuperation. This underlines the need for an effectively coordinated developmental approach in building Wellness Tourism Brand by duly acknowledging its distinct differences in relation to therapeutic and industry performance indicators.

Improvement of the System of Statistical Indicators of the State and Development of the Fuel and Energy Complex of the Russian Federation

The article proposes an improved system of statistical indicators for assessing the state and development of the fuel and energy complex of Russia, which defines a methodological approach to identifying factors and trends in its development. The introduction highlights the relevance of modernization of information and methodological support for reaching decisions on new tasks, including those related to the digitalization of the economy and implementation of the national projects’ portfolio. The body of the article critically examines the current configuration of official and departmental statistical information, based on which the authors selected 85 key indicators reflecting the state and development level of the fuel and energy complex of Russia. All of them can be delineated by sectors and analysis tasks. This evaluation system includes 7 blocks: general block characterizing the role of the fuel and energy complex in the economic system; key industry performance indicators; indicators of the production structure by industry; technological indicators of industries; prices for fuel and energy resources; production costs by industry; distribution indicators of fuel and energy resources. The paper analyses development trends in the fuel and energy sectors for 2008-2018. In particular, the authors’ research showed that modern oil production is characterized by a change in the territorial structure, as well as the reinstatement of the role of vertically integrated companies in the development of oil production. The article presents findings on the technological upgrading of Russian oil refining. However, the authors’ research proved that oil refining depth has ceased to be a reliable indicator of the level of technological equipment and modernization level of oil refineries. With regard to the development of the gas industry, there has been a steady increase in gas production, which is supported by maintaining a steady increase in demand for Russian gas in the domestic and foreign markets. The all-time high domestic consumer demand for gas fuel, associated with the Russian Regions Gasification Program implemented by the Ministry of Energy of Russia, was recorded. At the same time, the authors identified the main risk factors in the development of the industry related to Gazprom (a backbone of the energy sector) activities. The persistent positive growth dynamics in commodity production of associated petroleum gas was established. It was also noted that the highest percentage of its beneficial use is characteristic of operators of production sharing agreements. As for the results of the analysis of the coal industry, a matter of interest is the growth of domestic prices for coal products and related derivative trends. Particular attention is paid to the development of the possibilities of using over-the-counter coal price indicators. Replacement of coal with natural gas at a thermal power station in most regions of the country is of interest within the identified development trends of the electric power industry in Russia, which is explained by the environmental friendliness of electricity generation.

Collaborative Virtual Reality Decision Tool for Planning Industrial Shop Floor Layouts

This paper presents a methodology and the associated tool for enhancing decision making in shop floor layout using collaborative virtual reality, associated to real-time performance indicators in Industry 4.0. It first describes the collaborative architecture of the application. Subsequently, application features like: visualization at scale one (machines, industrial environment’s top view, product flow path), 3D model interaction (setting layout), physical process flow evaluation (spaghetti diagrams, Key Performance Indicators-KPI), testing multiple configurations (via save and load). Finally, paper illustrates possible usages and benefits of how VR tool helps improve ergonomics and safety; helps reduce deliberation time and bottlenecks through machine spatial footprint, visualization, scale one experience and referring KPIs.

An Approach for the Evaluation of a Product's Process Planning during the Design Phase through a Group Multi-Criteria Decision-Making

The process planning of a product represents in the manufacturing industry a major element that determines the level of economic performance of the company. The development and evaluation of process planning during the industrialization phase of a product can cause problems of quality, cost or manufacturing time. Therefore, process planning needs to be evaluated early, during the design phase. The aim of this article is to propose to a manufacturing company a hybrid approach of multicriterion decision support, allowing evaluating the concepts proposed by the designer to choose the best concept having the best industrial performance indicators, and to take into account the opinions of experts from different departments of the company. The multicriterion choice is made by the hybridization of the ROC method and the PROMETHEE method, and the decision criteria are indicators that express the performance of a process planning. Then, to illustrate the capacity of the model, a case study of a product is presented.

Which Indian Industry Benefits from FDI? A Panel Co-Integration Approach

Economic liberalization or market reforms have become the buzz word in economics all over the world in the recent years. Among various aspects of economic liberalization, foreign capital, particularly inflow of foreign direct investment (FDI) has been viewed as a main engine for economic development in the world economy. Thus this paper attempts to analyze the impact of FDI inflows on the performance of various Indian industries. Using Panel Co-integration tests namely Pedroni Residual Co-integration, Kao Residual Co-integration test and Johanson Fisher panel co-intergration tests, the presence of co-integration between FDI inflows and the performance variables of selected industries have been tested. The results of the paper reveals that there is a long run relationship between industry performance indicators and FDI only in case of services, telecom, computer software and hardware, real estate and automobile industries and in case of majority of other industries, there is no long run relationship between industry performance indicators and FDI inflow.

The Impact of Marcellus Shale Development on Hotel Revenues in Pennsylvania

New technologies have allowed for new drilling in oil and gas deposits throughout the world. In the Northeast United States, the Marcellus Shale formation has been one of the most active regions for new wells. This new drilling activity has created a visible economic impact to communities in and around the drilling sites. The increase in hotel activity metrics such as occupancy percentage and average daily rate has been noted but there has been no research that determines the total revenue impact of the drilling activity. This research does not attempt to factor in the social and environmental costs that have been discussed with the new drilling activities. This research studied the total revenue impact of the Marcellus Shale regions in the state of Pennsylvania. The state of Pennsylvania was chosen for this study as the state maintains detailed records on well development by county, while other states do not provide such data. Based on determinations made by a leading Marcellus Outreach Center, five distinct drilling “regions” were identified. Smith Travel Research provided hotel performance data. The performance indicators (demand, average daily rate, total revenue) of the hotels in the five drilling regions were tracked against the U.S. hotel industry performance indicators for comparable time periods. It was determined that approximately $685 million of hotel revenue has been generated by Marcellus Shale drilling activities. The incremental revenue was generated by both demand and average daily rate increases. This is a significant economic benefit to the drilling regions with increased tax collections for the taxing agencies and consumer spending by those visiting the region for drilling related activity. Approximately 65 new hotels were added in the drilling regions beyond what could have been expected with no drilling based on U.S. hotel industry supply trends. These new hotels are, almost exclusively, select-service, branded hotels. The average room size was 82 rooms, with an average employee count of 25 employees, the drilling has accounted for approximately 1,600 new hotel jobs plus whatever new jobs were added based on the increased occupancy levels of existing hotels. The cautionary note in the findings is that the 2012 data suggests that the demand may be stabilizing or decreasing. Demand in 2012 was flat at 0.0 but occupancy was down by 4.1% due to the increased supply. While the regions are still experiencing increased hotel revenues compared to a “non-Marcellus” scenario, the increase in hotel supply is making for a more challenging competitive environment for individual hotels. The finding suggest that new hotel development should begin early in a drilling environment and that hotels should have a long-term viability strategy as the long-term demand may stabilize or decrease. Sixty-two of the 65 new hotels are branded, 60 of those are select- service. Existing older and non-branded hotels will face a tougher operating environment and should have an exit strategy. Of the 14 hotels that closed in the drilling regions between 2006- 2012, 9 were independents and the average age of all 14 hotels was over 38 years old.

Process Benchmarking in the Water Industry

Free market mechanisms increasingly influence former monopoly sectors such as water and wastewater services with requirements for more transparency and efficiency. Small and large-scale consumers alike demand greater insight into how drinking water tariffs are structured and into the level of service.Public and private shareholders require guarantees on water supply at a reasonable price, with the requisite quality (both of service and product) and reliability together with careful eco-management. Developing sound policies requires information on key industry issues such as water resources, public health, water services, the environment and the cost of providing the level of the service demanded by customers and regulators.Similarly, informed decision-making on issues of ownership, industry structure, competition policy and effective regulation requires accurate analysis of performance across the industry throughout the world.In many sectors of industry Performance Indicators and Benchmarking exercises are widely used as suitable management tools for gaining and maintaining continuous improvement and competitive advantage. Addressing the need to promote best practice principles as part of the advocacy for the advancement of water and sanitation services is currently one of the major governance issues that IWA is challenged to tackle.The objective is to develop generally accepted procedures and methodologies able to provide decision makers with an overall perception of the utility performance as a sound basis for making strategic choices. This requires the definition of a reference framework for Performance Indicators and Benchmarking methodologies, as well as adequate models of aggregation that fit the basic needs of the key types of user.The Task Force on Performance Indicators (operating within the IWA Operation and Management Specialist Group) and the Task Force on Benchmarking (operating within the IWA Statistics and Economics Specialist Group) were set up with the remit to develop the definition of such a common language.The Task Force on Benchmarking moved to the second step, borrowing the European Commission's DG III recommendation that identify benchmarking as an important tool to improve competitiveness of small and medium sized enterprises in Europe according to the methodologies developed and applied in large corporations.With the objective of developing a generally accepted concept and a methodology with wide applicability, deeper analyses were then made of Process Benchmarking procedures adopted in the Nordic countries and in The Netherlands. Improvement of industrial performance with TPM implementation

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to show the implementation of a maintenance management model based on total productive maintenance (TPM) in a production line of a metallurgical company, with high-precision equipment requiring effective maintenance to maintain the quality of the production process. Design/methodology/approach – Has been proposed a model for conducting the activities, emphasizing the training activities of the teams involved in the implementation, collection and analysis of industrial performance indicators from a year before the implementation of TPM. The development followed the timetable of activities and the results of these performance indicators were collected again after the application of the model. Findings – It observed that after the implementation of TPM, and the results of these performance indicators were collected again after the application of the model. Thus, it is concluded that the TPM assists in improving industrial performance and competitiveness of the production line studied. Originality/value – The angle, from which the paper approaches the TPM problem, is original for the studied company and shows positives results. It allows the company to apply the model in their others production lines and factories to achieve an improvement in industrial performance and competitiveness.

Assessing the value of good design in hotels

The relation between building design, user satisfaction, and property financial and marketing performance is explored in hotels to quantify the effect that good design has on performance and to inform business decision-making. The physical environment is a significant product for the hotel industry as it satisfies customer needs and generates valuable repeat business; employees also provide services that are utilitarian in nature but provide hedonic benefits to guests. The Design Quality Indicator (DQI) tool was adapted to measure design in 30 North American hotels constituting part of a well-known brand. Guest and employee assessments of design were obtained, and the relationships between design and hotel industry performance indicators such as a property's average daily rate (ADR), revenue per available room (RevPAR), and occupancy indices were analysed. The analysis quantifies the positive relationships between design quality, financial and market share performance, and satisfaction with the building. The links between design Impact perceptions and ADR and RevPAR are particularly notable. Based on this and continuing research, the aim is the development of a robust method for predicting the economic and market value of renovations, using a version of the DQI tailored to meet the needs of the lodging industry. L'auteur analyse les relations qui existent entre conception du bâtiment, satisfaction de l'utilisateur et performances financières et commerciales du bien en ce qui concerne des hôtels afin de quantifier l'effet d'une bonne conception sur les performances et d'informer les décisionnaires. L'environnement physique est un produit significatif pour l'industrie hôtelière car il répond aux besoins de la clientèle et contribue à sa fidélisation; le personnel fournit également des services de nature utilitaire mais qui apportent à la clientèle des avantages hédonistiques. L'indicateur de la qualité de la conception (DQI) est un outil qui a été adapté pour mesurer la conception de 30 hôtels d'Amérique du Nord appartenant à une enseigne connue. La clientèle et le personnel ont évalué la conception et on a analysé les relations entre les indicateurs de performance de la conception et de l'industrie hôtelière, comme le tarif quotidien moyen de l'établissement (ADR), le revenu par chambre disponible (RevPAR), ainsi que les indices d'occupation. Cette analyse quantifie les relations positives entre la qualité de la conception, les performances financières et la part de marché ainsi que la satisfaction donnée par le bâtiment. Les liens entre la perception de l'impact de la conception et l'ADR et le RevPAR sont particulièrement intéressants. Sur cette base et en poursuivant les recherches, l'objectif est d'élaborer une méthode de prévision de la valeur économique et commerciale des rénovations en utilisant une version du DQI adapté aux besoins de l'industrie hôtelière. Socio-regulatory upheaval, reference points and strategic evolution of the cigarette industry

During the past 3 decades, the US cigarette industry has seen increased social and political turbulence affect market growth. The six major competitors (Phillip Morris (PM), R.J. Reynolds (RJR), American Tobacco, British American Tobacco (BAT), Lorillard and Liggett & Myers) have all responded to the increasingly unattractive environment through diversification efforts. Still, facing similar, hostile environments, the various patterns of product and international diversification of the firms have been divergent in terms of both scope and depth. The integration of strategic reference points offers a preliminary explanation for these divergent strategies. Firms who were industry leaders and industry laggards regarding average industry performance indicators were observed to take greater strategic risks in each decade. Firms performing at the industry median took relatively less risk in each decade.
