Digital twin and its applications in the construction industry: A state-of-art systematic review

The construction industry has a great impact on social and economic development because of its wide coverage and a large number of stakeholders involved. It is precisely owing to its large volume that technological innovation of the construction industry is relatively slow. The birth and rapid development of digital twins brings more hope to the construction industry. This paper summarizes the current development of digital twin and its applications in construction industry. First, the concepts and applications of digital twin are analyzed. Then, the research on digital twins in the construction industry in the past five years is reviewed. The main research directions and key technologies are pointed out in the end. This paper could guide related practitioners to clearly grasp the research application status of digital twin in the construction industry. It could also help to find suitable research directions.

The Impact of Logistics Integration on Supply Chain Performance: The Moderating Role of Information Sharing

Purpose: The study aims to assess the influence of logistics integration on supply chain performance, as well as the function of information sharing plays in that connection among supply chain partners in a vital section of Ghana's economy (the Energy Sector). Methodology: The study employed quantitative approach and adopted the explanatory research designs in the investigation. The research population targets senior management staff of energy firms operating within the Greater Accra Region. The study used convenience sampling approach to select a total of 111 employees from the population. Structured survey questionnaire was used as a data collection instrument to gather primary data from respondents. Data technique used were descriptive and inferential analysis and structural equation modelling using IBM SPSS (version 26) and Amos version 23. Findings: The study found that: a) logistics integration has a significant and positive effect on supply chain performance; b) information sharing correlates positively and significantly with supply chain performance; c) information sharing does not have any influence of the relationship between supply chain performance and logistics integration. Unique Contribution to Theory, Policy, and Practice: The study recommends that, supply chain managers to utilize technology as part of the strategic objectives to attain supply chain performance across their operations and lastly, managers are encouraged to promote successful information flow across the chain using design for disassembly principles, source effective communication, and supplier need-to-know policies. The study concludes that future studies are urged to create a research model that takes into account the comprehensive definition of sustainability, including its economic, social, and environmental elements, in order to fill in gaps in the literature and fill them. Future research is also urged to take into account how industrial innovation mediates the link between sustainability and other important outcome variables including sustainability performance, cost performance, customer happiness, and environmental performance.

Cultural and Creative Design and Development Driven by Cultural Semiotics Hunan Zhuzhou as an Example

The purpose of this paper is to explore the application of cultural semiotics theory in the design and development of cultural and creative products, taking Zhuzhou, Hunan Province, as an example. By analyzing the rich cultural resources of Zhuzhou, the study extracts and re-designs cultural symbols with local characteristics, and then applies them to the design and development of cultural and creative products. Starting from the policy background, the study demonstrates the necessity of cultural semiotics-driven cultural and creative design and its significance to social and economic development. Through case studies, this paper elaborates on the extraction process, design principles, and specific application of Zhuzhou's cultural symbols in cultural and creative products, aiming to provide theoretical support and practical reference for the innovation and development of cultural and creative industries.

Information on standardisation and standards as new indicators to forecast technological and industrial changes

ABSTRACT Product architecture changes fundamentally through the recombination of existing component technologies, as radical innovation accelerates. We analysed these structural changes in the case of the display industry. We shed light on standards information that could be new indicator to predict technological and industrial innovation. We addressed two issues. First, whether standardisation information is a leading indicator to detect and forecast technological and industrial changes. Second, whether standard information shows technological information flow signalling new technological fields. As methodology, we conducted case studies and empirical analysis using the information on standardisation and standards from the ‘activity process’ and ‘activity result’ viewpoint, respectively. As results, case studies showed a changing role from responsive to anticipatory standards by verifying that recent standardisation activities preceded the time of new product releases in world/Asian markets. We also found out that reconfiguration in the value chain that standardisation in component technologies has contributed to function technological fields. Network analysis using bibliographic information of standards revealed linkage patterns of technological knowledge flows with supporting the case studies. We propose the necessity of active participation in the standardisation process from industrial viewpoint with monitoring the industrial and technological trends. From policy viewpoint, we suggest construction and management of standards-related information system.

Fabrication Information Modeling for Closed-Loop Design and Quality Improvement in Additive Manufacturing for construction

Additive Manufacturing (AM) has emerged as a disruptive technology with the potential to revolutionize the construction industry by integrating digital design with automated manufacturing. This paper presents and extends Fabrication Information Modeling (FIM), a comprehensive framework tailored for automated manufacturing in construction. FIM facilitates the seamless integration of digital design concepts with automated manufacturing processes, enabling precise control over fabrication information and enhancing construction efficiency and quality. This paper demonstrates its potential to optimize construction processes through a detailed exploration of FIM’s capabilities, including data preparation, path planning, simulation integration, robot control, and data feedback. By enabling a circular data flow between digital modeling and manufacturing, FIM is able to bridge the gap between digital design and physical construction, revolutionizing how construction projects are conceived, planned, and executed. The paper concludes by highlighting the challenges and future research directions in advancing FIM-based construction systems, emphasizing its transformative potential in driving innovation and sustainability in the construction industry.

Supply chain digitalization and firms' green innovation: Evidence from a pilot program

Green innovation is essential for realizing environmental sustainability and achieving long-term ecological balance. This paper investigates the influence of supply chain digitalization on firms' green innovation in the manufacturing industry. China's 2018 Supply Chain Innovation and Application Pilot program as a quasi-natural experiment, we employ a difference-in-differences (DID) estimation approach to reach the following findings: (1) supply chain digitalization significantly enhances the quantity and quality of enterprise green innovation, with a more substantial impact on quality. (2) supply chain financing capacity and firm environmental awareness play a partial mediating role in the relationship supply chain digitalization and the quality and quantity of corporate green innovation. (3) the heterogeneity analysis reveals that the impact of supply chain digitalization on green innovation is notably heightened in firms with managers who have overseas experience, weak internal controls, and poor regional supply chain environments. This study enriches the theoretical understanding of enterprise green innovation from the perspective of supply chain digitalization, providing a theoretical basis and practical insights for green innovation practices in enterprises.

Technology innovation and sustainable organizational development in the waste management industry

Despite the global success of various sectors in technological innovation to achieve sustainable organizational development, less is applicable in the waste management industry. Therefore, the current research looks at the effects of technological innovation, and landfill resources on sustainable organizational development. Employed a quantitative approach to investigate how technological innovation affects sustainable organizational development in the waste management industry. Self-administered questionnaires of 280 managing directors of waste management firms in Southwest Nigeria participated in the survey. Before data collection, the survey instrument's validity and reliability were carefully evaluated. The study constructs were validated by exploratory factor analysis which produced the final factor structure. One item of Capacity Development 31 was removed and all items Cronbach's alpha valued. While TI one component was 0.840, LF component was 0.766, component 2 was 0.767, CD was 0.788 and SOD 0.848. These show strong internal consistency and reliability using SPSS 26.0 for the analysis. The relationship between technology adoption and sustainable organizational development for operational effectiveness and environmental sustainability is examined in this study using statistical methodologies. These findings lay the groundwork for further research by delivering insightful information about the variables impacting technology innovation and landfill resources to achieve SOD. The suggested theoretical framework attempts to close the gap between technological innovation, landfill resources and sustainable organizational development by mediating the role of capacity development. Existing research in the area mostly concentrated on other sectors leaving the waste management industry isolated. For business executives looking to maximize sustainability through technology innovation, the report offers insightful information. By incorporating more variables into the social exchange theory. This article emphasizes the value of pilot studies for better research design while also addressing the paucity of literature in the industry and providing a new paradigm for SOD.

Can low-carbon city pilot policy boost tourism development? Empirical evidence from China.

As an environmental regulatory tool in achieving green development, the low-carbon city pilot policy (LCCP) considerably influence tourism enhancement. Using China's 261 prefecture-level cities, this paper empirically delve the implication of LCCP to tourism from two tourism dimensions of tourism revenue and tourism arrivals employing the time-varying DID methodology. Results empirically reveal that the LCCP contributes to boosting tourism development, and after undergoing numerous robustness tests, this finding stands. The "arrivals growth effect" of LCCP is stronger than the "revenue improvement effect." Moreover, the impact of LCCP on domestic tourism is more profound than on inbound tourism. Heterogeneity analyses show the boosting impact is more pronounced in third-tier and above cities and non-resource-based cities. Upon further testing its transmission mechanism, we discover that the LCCP raises tourism revenues and arrival levels through industrial structural upgrading and innovation capacity improvement. The study clarifies the theoretical mechanisms and policy effects of LCCP on tourism development, which is valuable for assessing the tourism effects of LCCP and other environmental regulations and exploring the expanding path of sustainable tourism development.

Using innovation and entrepreneurship for creating edge in service firms: A review research of tourism and hospitality industry

This paper aims to inform policy and research in the domain of tourism and hospitality on the role of innovation and entrepreneurship. The paper applies the review research methodology to collate, comprehend, and synthesise 139 papers selected through a standard procedure. Our findings show that innovation drives growth and value in new tourism and hospitality firms. The study examines external factors, particularly government policies, influencing industry stakeholders’ entrepreneurial orientation and the macroeconomic environment affecting entrepreneurial activities. It also highlights the importance of social entrepreneurship in industry innovation and sustainability. This article emphasises the importance of innovation and entrepreneurship in tourism and hospitality growth, value creation, and social and environmental issues.

Industry 4.0 and Biotechnology: Strategies For Innovation snd Sustainability

Objective: The study investigated the intersection between Industry 4.0 and biotechnology, with the aim of analyzing how these areas converge to promote innovation and sustainability in contemporary industry. Methodology: An integrative review approach was adopted, using several SciELO and Google Academic databases As an inclusion criterion, Brazilian articles were selected in Portuguese and published between 2020 and 2023. Results and data analysis: The results highlighted significant advances, such as advanced automation, artificial intelligence and 3D printing in Industry 4.0, that not only optimize industrial production, but also strengthen sustainable practices by reducing waste and improving the use of natural resources. Biotechnology has emerged as an essential pillar, offering solutions such as bioprinting and cellular therapies, expanding the possibilities for sustainable product development. Despite the benefits, ethical and regulatory challenges have been identified that require appropriate government policies and innovation strategies to ensure the ethical use of these technologies. Conclusion: In conclusion, the convergence between Industry 4.0 and biotechnology not only redefines modern industry standards, but also establishes a new sustainable innovation paradigm, contributing to a more responsible and competitive future globally.

Comprehensive Review of Phytochemical Studies and Legalization of Cannabis in Morocco

Research on cannabis and its bioactive derivatives, including cannabinoids, non-cannabinoids, and extracts, has significantly increased in recent years due to their potential therapeutic applications as demonstrated by numerous published studies. Although there is evidence of the potential efficacy of cannabinoid and non-cannabinoid compounds from cannabis in the treatment of various diseases and syndromes, further research is required to mitigate the potential damage that could result from the excessive use of cannabinoid products, particularly tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), such as psychotropic effects, addiction, cognitive deficits, cardiovascular problems, and impacts on mental health. This review describes phytochemical and biological studies on cannabis grown in Morocco, utilizing databases such as SciFinder, ScienceDirect, Scopus, Google Scholar, and PubMed to provide updated data on cannabis in Morocco. The findings of this research aim to enable investors, economic operators, researchers, and policymakers to better understand the current state of cannabis in Morocco, thereby promoting industry growth and cannabis-related innovation. Additionally, this paper includes a brief discussion on the legalization of cannabis in Morocco, highlighting the new opportunities for investment in medical cannabis. This study also underscores that much remains to be explored regarding Moroccan cannabis, from the isolation of bioactive compounds and pre-clinical studies to clinical trials and the mass production of approved cannabis-based medicines. Furthermore, the findings are intended to inform key stakeholders about the current state of cannabis in Morocco, fostering industry growth and innovation.

Critical Success Factors for the Widespread Adoption of Virtual Alternative Dispute Resolution (VADR) in the Construction Industry: A Structural Equation Modeling Analysis

This study explores the increasing adoption of virtual alternative dispute resolution (VADR) in the construction industry, enhancing efficiency and accessibility in dispute resolution. VADR is crucial for streamlining processes and reducing participation barriers. The study aims to investigate the critical success factors (CSFs) influencing the adoption of VADR in the construction sector. Given the rising importance of VADR technologies, understanding the key factors driving their acceptance is crucial. The background highlights the growing reliance on innovative technologies to boost operational efficiency and decision-making processes. The data for the study were collected using a cross-sectional design with online structured survey questionnaire (N = 97) from diversified construction industries. Using Smart PLS 4, structural equation modeling (SEM) was employed to test the validity, reliability, and proposed hypotheses of the study. The results showed that cost factors had the greatest impact on VADR acceptance, followed by user competence and training, procedural adaptability, and technological infrastructure. Logistical assistance and legal frameworks also had a considerable favorable impact. However, stakeholder buy-in had no significant influence on VADR implementation. The implications indicate that economic feasibility, logistical readiness, flexible procedures, supportive legal contexts, and user skills are significant factors for successful VADR integration. Governments and organizations should deploy VADR technologies to encourage innovation and operational improvement in the construction industry.

Harnessing the power of biomimicry for sustainable innovation in construction industry

Biomimicry is increasingly being used to drive sustainable constructional development in recent years. By emulating the designs and processes of nature, biomimicry offers a wealth of opportunities to create innovative and environmentally friendly solutions. Biomimicry in industrial development: versatile applications, advantages in construction. The text emphasizes the contribution of bio-mimetic technologies to sustainability and resilience in structural design, material selection, energy efficiency, and sensor technology. Aside from addressing technical constraints and ethical concerns, we address challenges and limitations associated with adopting biomimicry. A quantitative research approach is implemented, and respondents from the construction industry rank biomimicry principles as the optimal approach to enhance sustainability in the industry. Demographic and descriptive analyses are underway. By working together, sharing knowledge, and innovating responsibly, we suggest approaches to tackle these obstacles and fully leverage the transformative power of biomimicry in promoting sustainable construction industry practices. In an evolving global environment, biomimicry reduces environmental impact and enhances efficiency, resilience, and competitiveness in construction industries.

Intellectual Capital and Innovation through Market Orientation in the Indonesian Film Industry

This article aims to analyze the relationship between intellectual capital and innovation through market orientation in the Indonesian film Industry as a creative economy in the new economic age based on information intensification and creativity with superior ideas, knowledge and competencies of human resources. To collect data, a questionnaire was used. Out of 65 populations of film companies, by random sampling, 56 were selected as representative samples. The Partial Least Square Structural Path-Modeling (PLS-PM) was used to test the hypotheses. The research outcomes revealed that intellectual capital, market orientation, and innovation are fairly high. Intellectual capital has a positive effect on market orientation and innovation. Market orientation mediates the effect of intellectual capital on innovation. Intellectual capital may directly affect the innovation of the Indonesian film industry and through market orientation. Human capital, structural capital, and customer capital must be strengthened to support customer orientation, competitor orientation, and internal integration of the company, so that innovations in products, processes, and strategies can be increased. This study implies that the innovation will develop more with the pertinent intellectual capital and suitable market orientation.

Furthermore, we identify the most effective ways marketers are using AI and marketing automation, offering practical insights for professionals seeking to leverage these technologies. Our study also looks at where AI is being used in marketing, revealing the diverse applications that are shaping strategies globally. We delve into the tools and platforms driving AI integration in marketing and advertising, as well as the main tasks undertaken by professionals using generative AI. A key focus is on AI-assisted writing, where we outline how marketers are employing AI for content creation and its impact on efficacy. The impact of leadership behaviors on organizational innovative performance and learning in AI-driven Industry 5.0 environments

Purpose Our aim was to elucidate how leaders’ behaviors may impact innovation and organizational learning in a fast-changing, human-centric and sustainability responsive AI-driven Industry 5.0 environment. Design/methodology/approach An unsystematic narrative review of relevant literature was conducted focusing on the influence of leadership behaviors on innovation and learning in Industry 5.0 environment. Findings We found that leadership behaviors that align with Industry 5.0 demands and values must emphasize collaboration, empathy, and continuous learning. The translation of leaders’ actions into desired outcomes requires a psychologically safe work environment, ensuing team cohesion, empowering team members, promoting a learning culture, engendering trust, and vision and goal alignment. Research limitations/implications Being aware of leadership qualities required in Industry 5.0 environment, characterized by machine–human collaboration, sustainable innovations, and continuous learning, enables organizations to focus their recruitment efforts on leaders’ characteristics that align with this environment. It also helps them design suitable leaders’ training and development programs. This study requires further expansion and empirical testing to validate the proposed model. Originality/value There is a plethora of studies on leadership in various contexts; however, there is very little research on the type of leadership that maybe effective in the fast changing and AI-driven Industry 5.0 environment. The findings of this paper shed light on such a leadership.

The enabling effects of digital technology on the quality of firm development: Insights and implications

Firms are the fundamental units driving the development of regional systems, and their enhancement in overall strength determines the effectiveness of industrial collaborative innovation networks, serving as a crucial support for the high-quality development of urban agglomerations. In the digital era, how firms can improve their overall strength to enhance their supporting role in the construction of regional industrial networks is a matter of significant interest. Therefore, as a new driving force for firm development, exploring the impact of digital technology on firm development quality is of great importance. From the perspective of the enabling effects of digital technology, this paper takes A-share listed firms within China's five major urban agglomerations as the research subjects, utilizing panel data from 2012 to 2022. Through theoretical analysis and empirical testing using various econometric methods—including the fixed effects model, two-stage least squares regression model, and mediation effect model—the study investigates the impact of digital technology application on firm development quality and its underlying mechanisms. This study finds that the application of digital technology significantly enhances the quality of firm development, and as the level of digital technology application deepens, firms' development continues to improve. From the perspective of enabling factors, digital technology application can promote the improvement of firm development quality by activating innovation vitality, alleviating financing constraints, and reducing human resource management costs. The heterogeneity analysis results reveal that the impact of digital technology application on firm development quality exhibits various heterogeneous characteristics, including differences in urban agglomeration, ownership structure, and firm size.

Impact of productivity drivers on the performance of manufacturing firms

A considerable number of research indicates that a nation's industrial sector plays a crucial role in its economic growth. Therefore, it is crucial to research the productivity drivers among businesses engaged in the manufacturing sector to create a sound, inclusive, long-lasting, and innovative industry. Thus, as a micro-perspective of industrialization, this study looks into the main productivity drivers of manufacturing firms in Nigeria. The study analyses an imbalanced panel firm-level dataset from 2007 to 2019 using the simultaneous approach of the stochastic frontier to achieve its goal. Our research shows that Nigerian manufacturing firms deal with growing returns to scale and a high labour intensity. For policy actions, it was recommended that a realistic industrialization strategy has to be micro-founded. This strategy should prioritise large-scale industrial companies, promote exports, and provide a steady supply of electricity. The findings also show that small and micro firms in Nigeria are more productive than large manufacturing firms, even though the frequency of power outages and average labour costs impede the productivity of these firms.

Quality control measures recommended by WHO contribute to the consistency and reliability of herbal medicines. Standardization of production processes and the establishment of quality parameters help maintain the potency and efficacy of herbal products, leading to more predictable therapeutic outcomes. Adherence to WHO guidelines facilitates compliance with regulatory requirements established by national authorities and international bodies. Regulatory agencies often refer to WHO guidelines when developing regulations for the manufacturing, distribution, and labeling of herbal medicines. Compliance with these guidelines helps manufacturers meet regulatory standards and gain market authorization for their products. WHO guidelines provide a harmonized approach to quality control practices, promoting consistency and uniformity in the assessment of herbal medicines worldwide. This facilitates international trade and ensures that products manufactured in one country meet quality standards accepted globally, fostering trust and confidence among consumers and healthcare professionals. The systematic review highlights the ongoing efforts of WHO to review and update guidelines based on emerging scientific evidence and best practices. Adhering to these evolving guidelines encourages continuous improvement in quality control practices and fosters innovation in the herbal medicine industry.

Innovation meets modest fashion-based localism: A systematic literature review

Research on innovation, localism, and modest fashion has garnered significant scholarly attention in recent years. However, existing studies have not produced conclusive results regarding the link between innovation in modest fashion and localism. This systematic literature review aims to identify research trends, theories, and innovations in modest fashion and determine factors related to innovation in modest fashion on the basis of localism. The Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) method was used to analyze 24 articles on innovation, localism, and modest fashion from the Scopus, Web of Science, and ProQuest databases. The results indicate a growing trend in the themes of innovation, localism, and modest fashion over the last decade. Additionally, six main factors have emerged to answer the research question regarding the determinants of innovation: design-driven, market-driven, technology-driven, localism-driven, culture-driven, and sustainability-driven. These factors emphasize the significance of considering localism and sustainability in shaping future innovations in the modest fashion industry. The study concludes that the combination of these driving factors can greatly influence the development of innovative strategies that align with consumer preferences and global market trends. Moreover, the findings of this review contribute to the growing body of knowledge on the relationship between innovation and localism, offering practical insights for business leaders and policymakers. By understanding how localism can drive innovation in the modest fashion industry, businesses can better position themselves to create sustainable and competitive advantages. Future research should focus on further exploring these factors to provide more in-depth insights into the role of localism in promoting innovation and business performance in the modest fashion sector.
