Preface

The 2023 4th International Conference on Advanced Materials and Intelligent Manufacturing (ICAMIM 2023) was held in Guangzhou, China during December 1st to 3rd, 2023. The series of ICAMIM conference was created with the aim to be an interdisciplinary incubator for the worldwide exchange of information and innovative ideas about the latest research results in the fields of advanced materials and intelligent manufacturing.At ICAMIM 2023, we wished to bring together a broad community of researchers from different branches of the rapidly developing complex science to discuss the fundamental theoretical challenges as well as experimental and applied aspects of many practical problems. The agenda was conducted mainly based on three parts, covering keynote speeches, oral & poster presentations, and academic tour.There were six keynote speeches and many regular oral talks in the morning and afternoon sessions. The topics of keynote speeches cover: a) Scientific Carbon Reduction, Green Development, Manufacturing Industry to Achieve the Goal of “Double Carbon” Efforts; b) ChatGPT with Intelligent Manufacturing System; c) Challenges Facing the Industrialization of Sodium-Ion Batteries; d) Microstructure Control and Application Properties of Ultra-High Strength and Toughness Steels; e) Double Growing Carbon Background Material Base Environmental Functional Materials Development Prospects; f) Current Status and Development of the New Materials Industry in Guangdong. These speeches allowed all the participants to interact with the speakers and people around and get some new insights from each other. An academic discussion part was also held, the topic of which was related to the recent and anticipated future progress in advanced materials and intelligent manufacturing, discussing a variety of questions and opinions important for the understanding of the technology and management methods of the industry itself.The papers submitted to this Conference were carefully reviewed by expert referees, covering topics on: Composites, New feature Materials, Integrated Manufacturing Systems, Advanced Manufacturing Technology, Intelligent Mechatronics, etc. We are very grateful to the reviewers for their efficient and thoughtful actions. Various excellent papers were included here based on the referee reports.We are thankful to the members of Technical Program Committee for their time and efforts in preparing the program of ICAMIM 2023. Assessing the Bankruptcy Risks of China's Emerging Port Industries: Modeling and Early Warning

Vigorously developing emerging marine industries are an important way for China to implement the strategy of “Sea Power Nation”, and improving the ability of port enterprises to prevent financial and tax risks is a key link in accelerating the high-quality development of the marine economy. The research objective of this paper is to construct a reasonable early warning financial model for emerging port industries in Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao Greater Bay Area. The research hypothesis is that the original Z-SCORE model and F-SCORE model are not able to accurately predict the financial risk of emerging marine industries. The data of typical port enterprises are utilized to compare the financial risk; after that risk assessment and early warning are carried out. This paper adopts the Delphi method to assign weights to different indicators and utilizes the Analytic Hierarchy Process method to derive a financial and tax early warning model applicable to Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao Greater Bay Area. The results of the study found that the traditional “Z-score model” and “F-score model” are less applicable to the emerging industries in the ports of Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao Greater Bay Area. This paper will construct a financial and tax risk control model corresponding to the development of port emerging industries and provide early warning when exceeding a certain threshold to help enterprises develop better. In addition, this paper also puts forward policy suggestions for risk management of emerging port industries from the aspects of system improvement and government-enterprise linkage.

Measurement of the Integration of Education and Industry in Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao Greater Bay Area under the Background of Big Data and Analysis of Influencing Factors

Abstract In this paper, the Herfindahl coefficient (HHI), intuitionistic fuzzy hierarchical analysis (IFAHP) and binary semantic evaluation methods are used to quantitatively measure the degree of industry-academia integration in Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao and to explore the level hierarchy of the degree of industry-academia integration. The factors influencing the behavior of industry-academia cooperation between enterprises and higher vocational colleges were analyzed by selecting the employment of H, A and X institutions in the past five years. The results show that the level of industry-academia integration in the Greater Bay Area is 0.6833, and the obstacles in communication channels between enterprises and higher education institutions are the biggest influencing factors. The industrial structure deviation is 28.9, which indicates that there is a discrepancy between the university specialty settings and market demand in the region. The optimization countermeasures proposed in this paper have a positive significance in promoting the connection between local higher education and industry.

The Impact of Supply Chain Integration to Supply Chain Responsiveness in Chinese Electronics Manufacturing Companies

The aim of the current research was to explore the relationship between supply chain integration and supply chain responsiveness in the electronics manufacturing industry in Guangdong, China. The research model conceptualized supply chain integration (comprising business process integration, system integration, and activity integration) as a key resource impacting the capability of firms to respond efficiently to changing consumer demands and market conditions. This research utilized the questionnaire to gathered data from 420 supply chain management professionals from electronics manufacturers in China. The gathered data was analyzed using PLS-SEM, which allowed us to examine the relationships between supply chain responsiveness, business process integration, activity integration and systems integration. The results obtained were interpreted and discussed in the context of previous literature and theories. The study findings reveal a positive correlation between the three aspects of supply chain integration and supply chain responsiveness. Respondents agreed that business process integration (mean = 4.822, standard deviation = 1.825), system integration (mean = 4.965, standard deviation = 1.809), and activity integration (mean = 5.243, standard deviation = 1.792) were essential determinants in developing supply chain responsiveness. This indicates that a higher level of integration in these areas can significantly enhance a firm’s ability to respond quickly and effectively to changes in the market. These findings are consistent with prior research, suggesting that these forms of integration are critical for supply chain performance. In the context of the electronics manufacturing industry in China, this research further validates the importance of these variables. Business process integration is first investigated as the determinant of supply chain responsiveness, especially in the electronics manufacturing companies of China. This study is, to the best of the authors’ knowledge, one of the first to investigate the link between business process integration and supply chain responsiveness. Meanwhile, it is also seen as the new test of examining the influence of system and activity integration on supply chain responsiveness in the current business environment. The truth from the data analysis illustrated that even in the new business environment, both integration constructs (system integration and system integration) could affect the supply chain’s responsiveness. The study’s results provide valuable insights for practitioners and policy-makers in the electronics manufacturing industry. By focusing on enhancing business process integration, system integration, and activity integration, firms can increase their responsiveness to the dynamic market environment, thus improving overall performance.

Historical emission and reduction of VOCs from the petroleum refining industry and their potential for secondary pollution formation in Guangdong, China

China became the world leader in crude oil processing capacity in 2021. However, petroleum refining generates significant volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions, and the composite source profile, source-specific emission factors, and emission inventories of VOCs in the petroleum refining industry remain poorly understood. In this study, we focused on Guangdong, China's major province for crude oil processing, and systematically evaluated the historical emissions and reduction of VOCs in the petroleum refining industry from 2001 to 2020. We accomplished this by establishing local source-specific emission factors and composite source profiles. Finally, we quantitatively assessed the potential impact of these emissions on ozone and secondary organic aerosol formation. Our results revealed that VOC emissions from the petroleum refining industry in Guangdong followed an increasing-then-decreasing trend from 2001 to 2020, peaking at 37.3 Gg in 2016 and declining to 18.7 Gg in 2020. Storage tanks and wastewater collection and treatment remained the two largest sources, accounting for 41.9 %–53.4 % and 20.6 %–27.5 % of total emissions, respectively. Initially, Guangzhou and Maoming made the most significant contributions, with Huizhou becoming a notable contributor after 2008. Emission reduction efforts for VOCs in Guangdong's petroleum refining industry began showing results in 2017, with an average annual VOC emission reduction of 21.5 Gg from 2017 to 2020 compared to the unabated scenario. Storage tanks, wastewater collection and treatment, and loading operations were the primary sources of emission reduction, with significant contributions from Maoming, Huizhou, and Guangzhou. Alkanes made the largest contribution to VOC emissions, while alkenes/alkynes and aromatics comprised the most significant portions of ozone formation potential (OFP) and secondary organic aerosol formation potential (SOAP). We also estimated VOC emissions and reduction from petroleum refining for China from 2001 to 2020, and measures such as “one enterprise, one policy” and deep control strategies could reduce emissions by at least 103.9 Gg.

Analyzing dynamic coupling and coordination of modern service and advanced manufacturing industries in Guangdong–Hong Kong–Macao Greater Bay Area

Integrating the modern service industry with the advanced manufacturing industry is an important way to cultivate a modern industrial system and achieve high-quality development of economy. This study aims to enhance the supporting and leading role of the Greater Bay Area of Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao in China's national economic development and opening up by promoting the in-depth integration of these two industries. A new monitoring system is developed to simulate the level of integration of the modern service and advanced manufacturing industries in the Guangdong–Hong Kong–Macao Greater Bay Area. The dynamic comprehensive evaluation model of stock increment was used to simulate the coupling coordination degree of these two industries. Empirical results reveal that the development of these industries has uneven stock and incremental resource advantages, and their development has not been balanced. The coupling coordination degree of these industries in some areas has become maladjusted, while in other areas, it has fluctuated or developed from coordination to disorderly leap-forward. These findings demonstrate that the study methods and results are significant for analyzing industrial integration processes and promoting in-depth integration development in the Guangdong–Hong Kong–Macao Greater Bay Area. In conclusion, building a monitoring system using the dynamic comprehensive evaluation model of stock increment is an effective way to evaluate the level of integration of these two industries and promote their in-depth integration in the Greater Bay Area.

The Impact of Facades of Conformity on Individual Creativity: The Critical Role of Emotional Exhaustion and Organizational Political Climate

The business environment is complex and changeable, which posed challenges for leaders to focus on improving individual creativity. Drawing on the conservation of resources theory, this study investigated the negative impact of facades of conformity on individual creativity by focusing on the mediating role of emotional exhaustion and the moderating role of organizational political climate. The data were collected from 335 employees of different industries in Guangdong, Guangxi, Jiangxi and other regions in China. Results indicate that (1) facades of conformity has a significantly negative impact on individual creativity; (2) there is a mediation of emotional exhaustion in the relationship between facades of conformity and individual creativity; and (3) organizational political climate significantly moderate the relationships between facades of conformity and emotional exhaustion and the mediating effect of emotional exhaustion. This study opens up a new perspective for the study of individual creativity and provides theoretical and practical basis for the effective promotion of individual creativity by organizational managers.

Sector-level socio-economic and environmental effects of large-scale hydropower initiatives -- a multi-region multi-phase model for the Wudongde Hydropower Station

Large-scale hydropower projects (LHPs) supply a huge amount of clean electricity and could help achieve global/national carbon emission mitigation goals. The development of LHPs generally has tremendous impacts on multiple regions and different socio-economic and environmental (SEE) effects on various sectors at construction and operational phases. Thus, it is significant to quantitively evaluate the distributive and distinctive SEE effects of large-scale hydropower initiatives from a sectoral perspective to provide references for the construction or planning of new water conservancy projects. In this study, a multi-region multi-phase SEE analysis model (MMSEE) has been developed through incorporating a multi-regional input–output model (with 5 regions and 129 sectors) and ecological network analysis. The proposed model was first applied to assess the sector-level SEE effects of the newly completed Wudongde Hydropower Station (WDD) at its construction and operational phases. Results show that the total output and employment of the sector of Construction had been significantly affected by the construction investment of WDD project and the employment increase of this sector accounted for 75% and 63% of the total increase of employment in Sichuan and Yunnan, respectively. Changes in the total outputs of Hydropower sector in Sichuan, Yunnan, and the whole Yangtze River Economic Belt were the biggest at operational phase. In addition, more attention should be paid to sectors of Thermal power, Other manufacturing, and Chemical industry in Guangdong to accomplish future environmental goals by 2025. Results also indicate that the WDD project would help Guangdong save 30% emission reduction space and achieve the emission reduction target of the “14th Five-Year Plan” of this province. In addition, the modeling framework can be extended to evaluate other LHPs around the world and provide policy formulation references for decision-makers.

Loneliness and the Workplace

Loneliness is increasingly recognized as a public health problem, especially under Covid-19 when social distancing has disrupted people's way of living and working. Not only is loneliness detrimental for health, but growing evidence shows that it is associated with a range of undesirable workplace outcomes. Our symposium puts together four papers that discuss antecedents, outcomes and possible intervention strategies to alleviate loneliness in the workplace. It is timely in terms of encouraging meaningful conversations and sharing research around loneliness in the workplace. Overall, the presentations contribute to an emerging and important literature base on how loneliness intersects with organizational life. Loneliness tends to be a taboo subject yet data supports the notion that it is a “real” phenomenon amongst workers. The starting point, as illustrated with the proposed presentations, is to develop an understanding of the experience of loneliness in the workplace, and to use this understanding to develop multi-faceted interventions to help alleviate the distress, taking into account the individual and the organizational context. Regional Manufacturing Industry Demand Forecasting: A Deep Learning Approach

With the rapid development of the manufacturing industry, demand forecasting has been important. In view of this, considering the influence of environmental complexity and diversity, this study aims to find a more accurate method to forecast manufacturing industry demand. On this basis, this paper utilizes a deep learning model for training and makes a comparative study through other models. The results show that: (1) the performance of deep learning is better than other methods; by comparing the results, the reliability of this study is verified. (2) Although the prediction based on the historical data of manufacturing demand alone is successful, the accuracy of the prediction results is significantly lower than when taking into account multiple factors. According to these results, we put forward the development strategy of the manufacturing industry in Guangdong. This will help promote the sustainable development of the manufacturing industry.

The Method of Measuring the Agglomeration Degree of High-Tech Industries and Its Influence Mechanism: Taking Guangdong Province as an Example

This paper selects the Herfindahl–Hirschman index and the Moran index to study the overall agglomeration and spatial distribution of high-tech industries in Guangdong, a province of China. The location entropy, dynamic agglomeration index, and output value share are also used in this study to measure the agglomeration and changes that occur in high-tech industries in various cities of Guangdong Province. The relevant data of high-tech industries for the province is collected between 2013 and 2018. Our results show that Guangdong Province’s overall agglomeration of high-tech industries strengthened between 2013 and 2018, but industrial transfer occurred within the cities in the Pearl River Delta region to a certain extent. Regional international trade, R&D investment and patent output of the whole society, number of local scientific research personnel, economies of scale, communication level, and local taxation policies are the main factors contributing to the changes in the agglomeration of high-tech industries. Guangdong should create an open environment to increase R&D investment and expand the scale of R&D personnel and economy as well as strengthening intellectual property protection and communication level. Preferential taxation policies should be also implemented to accelerate the agglomeration of high-tech industries.

Analysis of total carbon emission of the logistics industry in Guangdong and solutions to emission reduction

The input-output method is employed in this study to measure the total carbon emission of the logistics industry in Guangdong. The findings revealed that the carbon emission of direct energy consumption of the logistics industry in Guangdong is far above the actual carbon emissions, the second and third industries play a significant role in carbon emission of indirect energy consumption in the logistics industry in Guangdong. To reduce energy consumption and carbon emissions in Guangdong, it is not only important to control the carbon emissions in the logistics industry, but strengthen carbon emission detection in relevant industries, improve the energy utilization rate and reduce emissions in other industries, and move towards low-carbon sustainable development.

Research on “Industrial Internet” to promote the development of Advanced Manufacturing Industry in Guangdong, China

As a major province in China’s manufacturing and Internet industries, Guangdong has taken the lead in promulgating local industrial Internet support policies and supporting enterprises to “build platforms, log in platforms, and use platforms.” Guangdong has taken the lead in promoting the development of the Industrial Internet. The policy system for the development of the Industrial Internet is becoming more and more comprehensive, Advanced Manufacturing Industry industries are developing in a coordinated and in-depth manner, and urban integration and application innovation are active. Guangdong Province further exerted the advantages of resource aggregation and industrial clusters, to boldly explore and innovate, and gave better play to the role of demonstration and leadership, making the Industrial Internet a new engine to promote the development of Advanced Manufacturing Industry and build a province strong with manufacturing.

Effects of High-speed Rail Construction on the Evolution of Industrial Agglomeration: Evidence from Three Great Bay Areas in China

High-speed rail is an important transportation infrastructure that can promote regional economic growth and adjust industrial layout. To explore the impact of high-speed rail construction on the industrial spatial layout of China’s Bay Area, the effects of high-speed rail construction on industrial spatial layout of the Circum-Bohai Great Bay Area, the Circum-Yangtze Estuary Great Bay Area, and the Guangdong–Hong Kong–Macao Greater Bay Area in China were analyzed by using DID (difference-in-differences) model and quantile treatment effect based on the panel data obtained from 2005 to 2016. Results demonstrate that high-speed rail construction significantly affects industrial spatial layout of urban areas. Due to high-speed rail construction, manufacturing and real estate industries in the Circum-Bohai Great Bay Area expand greatly and show a significant diffusion effect. This diffusion promotes agglomeration of wholesale and retail, real estate, transportation, warehousing, and post industries in small cities. High-speed rail construction exhibits an agglomeration effect on financial industry in the Circum-Yangtze Estuary Great Bay Area. Highspeed rail construction facilitates clustering of manufacturing, financial, and transportation industries in small cities. The impact of high-speed rail construction on manufacturing, accommodation and catering, financial, transportation, warehousing, and post industries in Guangdong–Hong Kong–Macao Greater Bay Area shows a diffusion effect. In sum, high-speed rail construction causes an evolution of industrial agglomeration in three great bay areas in China. The conclusion provides decision references for optimization of industrial spatial layout in great bay areas.

First report of megalocytivirus (iridoviridae) in cultured bluegill sunfish, Lepomis macrochirus, in China

The bluegill sunfish, Lepomis macrochirus, is an important aquacultural and recreational species in southern China because of its excellent taste, rapid growth rate, and good looks. At present, few pathogens are known to affect the bluegill sunfish. However, an iridovirus-like disease recently caused heavy losses to the bluegill sunfish aquaculture industry in Guangdong, China. We report that a virus, designated BSMIV-SD-20171020, was isolated from diseased bluegill sunfish in China. The isolate was efficiently propagated in a Chinese perch brain (CPB) cell line. The cytopathic effect was observed, the MCP gene PCR amplified, and the virus observed with electron microscopy. Its viral titer in CPB cells reached 104.13 TCID50 mL−1. The mortality rate was 100% when bluegill sunfish were challenged with BSMIV-SD-20171020 at a dose of 103.13 TCID50/fish. A histopathological examination revealed basophilic hypertrophied cells in the intestine, liver, and spleen. A nucleotide sequence alignment and phylogenetic analysis of the major capsid protein revealed that isolate BSMIV-SD-20171020 is the species Infectious spleen and kidney necrosis virus (ISKNV), in the genus Megalocytivirus.

Application of extreme value distribution theory in the forecast of chilling return periods of Guangdong Province, China.

Chilling is the third weather disaster following flood and typhoon in Guangdong Province. Prediction of chilling return period is of practical significance for scientific reduction and protection of disaster. Four models, including Gumbel distribution, Weibull distribution, log-normal distribution and Peasron-III distribution, were applied, based on the chilling index, to fit the probability distribution of chilling extreme calculated by chilling accumulation for 86 weather stations of Guangdong Province from 1961 to 2015 (December to the following February). The optimal models were selected to calculate the chilling extreme value of return periods. Results showed that Pearson-III distribution was the optimal model for 77 out of the 86 weather stations. The log-normal distribution was optimal for eight weather stations and Gumbel distribution was optimal for only one station. Weibull distribution was not suitable for modeling extreme value of Guangdong Province. Different return periods of 10-, 25-, 50- and 100-year were predicted by optimal distribution models respectively, with a relative error less than 6%. Chilling extreme for years presented obviously latitude distribution feature, with more in north side and less in south side, which matched the distributions of the lowest temperature, average temperature and temperature dipping scale during chilling period. Our results are useful for guiding the chilling defense for relevant industries in Guangdong Province.
