Perempuan Sebagai Pemilih : Isu Utama, Preferensi, dan Dampaknya terhadap Pemilu 2024

This article aims to depict the main issues, political preferences, and the impact of women's participation as voters in the 2024 elections in Indonesia. Through qualitative descriptive research with the methodology of literature review, an analysis is conducted on the conditions of gender equality and sexual violence in Indonesia, considering women's political preferences in legislative and presidential elections, and discussing their impact on the strengthening of democracy in Indonesia. It is found that gender equality and sexual violence issues are the primary focus for women in the 2024 elections. Women's political preferences tend to be influenced by the personality and background of candidates. The participation of women as voters can have a positive impact on creating policies that are responsive to various women's issues. This research also underscores two crucial aspects: the importance of the role of political parties, candidates, and presidential candidates as contestants in elections to present concrete solutions to women's issues packaged in tangible programs or missions. Additionally, this article emphasizes that the success of elections is not only seen in their procedures but also in their substance, which must provide solutions or answers to women's issues in Indonesia.

Political Participation of Persons with Disabilities in Election: The Case of Regional Elections in Bantul, Indonesia

This article analyzes the involvement of disability groups in the regional election and how this will contribute to the upcoming 2024 General Election in Indonesia. Groups of people with disabilities often face discrimination, which hinders the realization of their rights as outlined in Law Number 8 of 2016 regarding Persons with Disabilities. Ensuring such rights are fulfilled is crucial for social progress and the welfare of individuals, particularly in democratic nations. The approach in this study uses the theory of political participation and the concept of human rights as a theoretical framework. Meanwhile, the research method is qualitative, with descriptive analysis to discuss the intended topic. The collection of research data was obtained from interviews and literature studies. This article examines the case study of the involvement of persons with disabilities in the 2020 Bantul Regional Election and its influence on the 2024 General Election. Bantul is a district in the Special Region of Yogyakarta Province in that it has the largest population with disabilities. As a result, special attention is needed to ensure that the political rights of the disabled group in Bantul are guaranteed. The findings show several forms of involvement of disability groups in the previous elections in 2019 and 2020. The deficiencies in these elections should be addressed to improve access for disability groups making democracy inclusive. This article, then, contributes to the studies of the political participation of persons with disabilities in democracy in the context of regional elections.

General elections (Pemilu) are a crucial democratic instrument for expressing the sovereignty of the people. Basic principles of elections, such as direct participation and fairness for all participants, reflect constitutional commitments to ensure a fair and transparent democratic process. Collaborative leadership is recognized as an approach that can strengthen the integrity and success of elections, enabling cooperation among various parties to achieve common goals. This research aims to explore the relationship between collaborative leadership and sustainable democracy in the 2024 elections in Indonesia. The method used in this research is literature study. The results of the discussion indicate that collaborative leadership plays an important role in encouraging active participation of the community, especially the younger generation, in elections. This leadership operates through cooperation among various election actors, including election organizers, political parties, and civil society, to achieve fair, transparent, and democratic elections. Sustainable democracy, on the other hand, supports elections by strengthening democratic institutions and promoting inclusive and transparent decision-making. Thus, it can be concluded that the integration of collaborative leadership and sustainable democracy is key to the success of the 2024 elections in Indonesia.

This research was conducted to analyze the role of social media that discusses political communication towards the 2024 election. Political communication towards elections with social media is one of the channels of political communication to reach voters, especially the public. Much research contributes to digital campaigns, but it remains unclear how candidates use social media platforms as a form of digital campaigning during elections. This research will focus on discussing the role of social media ahead of the Presidential election in Indonesia in 2024 and the political strategies used by each candidate. Through four social media platforms Facebook, Tiktok, Twitter, and Instagram. This research will also examine the issues, conflicts and obstacles discussed in the four media platforms we have mentioned earlier. This research uses a qualitative approach and the data is analyzed using qualitative methods. A qualitative approach is used to analyze data obtained from various social media and other reliable sources. With the existence of social media, various news has been prepared as an official source in disseminating programs and ideas to voters through available social media platforms. In this analysis we will examine whether social media has a big influence if hoaxes or news that spread can influence people to remain committed to their choices or even believe in what is seen on social media. The results of this study will provide ideas or memories about the journey to the General Election and the results of this study will also include various moments that often occur on social media ahead of the 2024 election. That way, this research contributes to telling or giving a better understanding in social media.

Public Opinion Dynamics on Twitter: A Preliminary Analysis of Conversations Related to the 2024 General Election in Indonesia

Objective: Public opinion research related to general elections in Indonesia previously focused more on when the campaign period was officially carried out. In fact, before the official campaign period takes place, it is the right time to invite the public to actively participate in politics. In this article, we conducted research on conversations on Twitter (X) related to the 2024 general election “Pemilu 2024”. The research was conducted to determine the topic of conversation and the actors who played a role in the conversation. Method: This research used social network analysis on social media Twitter (X) as method to analyze conversation about “Pemilu 2024”. There were 38,570 tweets collected from all over Indonesia using the keyword combination 2024 Election “Pemilu 2024” from January to March 2023. Results: The results of social network analysis show that there were 6,275 hashtags used with 7,244 users involved in the conversation. The topics that emerged were dominated by the public's hopes for holding the “Pemilu 2024”, the names of figures, political parties, supporters of President Jokowi, the Election Supervisory Body and the General Election Commission. SNA was also used to assess network characteristics and found that the “Pemilu 2024” network had a non-centralized structure. In other words, the public has its own opinions. The influential actors based on the score of centrality are @aboebakar15, @NasDem, @RakyatBerisik. Meanwhile, the influential actors based on degree are @jokowi @cakimiNOW and @KPU_ID. Apart from that, there are accounts that are bubblereachers, namely @KPU_ID, @Bawaslu, @jpnncom. Conclusions: In the context of conversations regarding the “Pemilu 2024”, Twitter users (X) apparently show different behavior in showing agreement. In future practice, it is hoped that accounts that become bubblereachers will not only follow the principles of information usefulness, but also apply the principles of dialogic communication. By implementing dialogical communication, public opinion can be influenced and ultimately public involvement in politics can also be affected. Twitter users (X) use the favorite feature more often than retweets. It is hoped that the implications of this research can become a reference for practitioners in the field of political communication and policy makers in order to increase public participation in politics.

ANOMALI DEMOKRASI INDONESIA: Kontroversi Peningkatan Partisipasi Politik pada Pemilihan Kepala Daerah dalam masa Pandemi Covid-19

This study discusses the implementation of regional head elections in Indonesia which took place during the Covid-19 pandemic. The study focuses on explaining the high level of voter turnout when Covid-19 hit Indonesia in 2020 which exceeded the turnout rate in normal situations and contrary to the trend of declining global voter turnout. This research uses descriptive qualitative methods with secondary data obtained from official government institutions (especially the election commission and Ministry of Health), mass media both newspapers and other social media, as well as the results of research conducted by other researchers. The results showed that the high level of voter turnout during the Covid-19 pandemic was an anomaly of democracy in the midst of activity restrictions and the trend of declining global voter turnout. The high voter turnout during the Covid-19 pandemic was inversely proportional to the economic downturn and public confidence in government. This study found that the main factor for increasing voter turnout during the Covid-19 pandemic was the massive mobilization of social assistance funds from the government. Theoretically, this is a synthesis of the mobilization model and the general incentives model of participation in a pragmatic context.

DESIGNING DIRECT REGIONAL HEAD ELECTIONS BY THE GENERAL ELECTION COMMISSION AMIDST THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC

This study aims to understand the challenges faced in the implementation of direct regional elections by the General Election Commission amid the COVID-19 pandemic in Indonesia in 2020. The research method used is empirical juridical with a field research approach. Data were obtained through interviews with election coordinators and document analysis related to the implementation of elections. The results showed that the implementation of local elections in Indonesia in 2020 faced challenges due to disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, such as ensuring compliance with health protocols, poor internet quality, violations related to the procurement of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), public concerns about the spread of COVID-19, disruption of the election process due to delays in resources and infrastructure, and candidate partners (paslon) who often ignore health protocols during their campaigns. Overcoming these challenges requires effective coordination and communication among election coordinators, strict implementation of health protocols, adjustments to schedules, stages, programs, and budgets, and increased community participation. The government also needs to pay attention to the availability of sufficient funds to ensure the smooth implementation of the election.

Through this approach, it is expected that Indonesia can move towards more efficient and trustworthy elections. The implementation of election digitization has an impact on increasing transparency and public trust, efficiency and accuracy, accurate data recording, simplifying the electoral process, preventing fraud, and reducing the burden on the Constitutional Court.

The purpose of this study is to gain a deeper understanding of legal aspects, uphold the principles of electoral justice to realize a democratic (honest and fair) as well as a reference for education and research in strengthening legal and democratic life in the country. The research method employed is qualitative, utilizing theories of security intelligence, social construction, and terrorism concepts. The results indicate that the 2024 General Election in Indonesia is a crucial political event, with a primary focus on anticipating terrorism threats due to the perceived intense political dynamics, increased political polarization, fierce competition among political parties, and extensive use of social media. Forms of terrorism leading up to the election include physical attacks, cyber-attacks, voter intimidation, and potential political conflicts. Security intelligence strategies in facing terrorism have evolved to involve prevention, intervention, and recovery. Strategic steps include establishing specialized intelligence agencies, technological advancements, and inter-agency collaboration. Manipulation of Information in the 2024 Election in Indonesia: Political Dynamics in the Post-Truth Era

Information manipulation overshadows the conduct of the 2024 General Election. Even the manipulation of information in various forms has increased in dissemination since one year before the 2024 elections. Social media platforms become a means or medium used to disseminate information manipulation. Using the concept of information manipulation proposed by Vilmer et.al (2018), this study explores information manipulation that occurs in 2022 - 2023 which will be associated with individual and collective levels that cause manipulation. This research is qualitative research with a descriptive method supported by secondary data (literature) such as books, journals, research reports of competent institutions, mainstream media news, and several accounts on social media that show the tendency of information manipulation practices. The results of this study show that the use of visual information and narratives of hope and hatred is becoming a mainstay in information manipulation content. Visual information is easy to understand and remember, while narratives of hope and hatred easily arouse emotional sentiments and provoke so as to enhance the message conveyed to shape public perception to bring down political opponents and degrade public trust in the General Elections Commission (KPU) as the organizer of elections. This condition will affect political dynamics and if left unchecked has the potential to pose a serious threat to national security and resilience.

The Steep Challenge of Increasing the Electability of Female Legislative Candidates in the 2019 General Election

This study examines how the movement of modalities owned by female candidates in the midst of a patriarchal habitus which is still developing in the 2019 elections in Indonesia. Despite obtaining the highest representation of women in parliament throughout history, in reality the increase that has occurred cannot be significant but tends to be ups and downs. The increase in the representation of female candidates in parliament in 2019 is inseparable from several factors, one of which is the capital owned by female candidates. Using the theory from Pierre Bourdie, he explained that capital is indeed very important for women candidates in Indonesia to get elected, but they also have to pay attention to the arena and their developing habits. The researcher uses the literature study method which is quoted from various sources of scientific studies that can be proven valid to answer research questions. This study found that capital (social capital, political capital, and economic capital) is indeed capable of getting candidates elected, but in reality there are still many female candidates who have high modality unable to win political contestation. This is because the capital owned by female candidates has so far been controlled by a patriarchal class system which causes modality to not develop optimally and the increase in the electability of women candidates in parliament in Indonesia cannot be significant.

The Effectiveness of Implementing a Closed-list Proportional System in Selecting Legislative Members from the Perspective of Islamic Law

The legislative elections using an open-list proportional system always generate identical controversies during general election season. This, mainly involves the prevalence of misconduct by both the prospective legislative candidates themselves and their campaign teams. This issue has become a latent problem in every general election season, resulting in several adverse effects, including high campaign costs leading to corruption practices and poor political education to the public. The closed proportional system is once again considered as a solution to prevent vote-buying practices, also known as money politics. This research is a normative legal study using the statute approach, conceptual approach, and case approach. There are two types of legal materials used in this research. First, primary legal materials, namely Law No. 2 of 2011 Regarding Amendments to the Political Parties Law and Law No. 7 of 2017 Regarding General Elections. This study focuses on the importance of reconsidering the implementation of the closed proportional system in legislative elections as an effort to prevent the ongoing issue of money politics, which has been a latent problem in every general election in Indonesia. This research aims to reevaluate the use of the closed proportional system as the most suitable system to combat money politics practices.

This research uses normative juridical method with qualitative descriptive analysis approach. Regulations on the position of civil servants are very clearly regulated in the legislation on how to regulate civil servants to be more optimal in supporting government activities to benefit the community as much as possible and be fair and always maintain neutrality in elections. Based on the results of the study, there are several regulations governing the position of civil servants in elections in Indonesia, namely the 1945 Constitution, the Civil Service Law, the Election Law, the Corps Life Government Regulation and the Civil Servant Code of Ethics, the Government Regulation on Civil Servant Discipline, and the Circular Letter of the Chairman of KASN concerning the Neutrality of Civil Servants.

The application of the presidential threshold in the presidential nomination election in Indonesia gave rise to various controversies and became a topic of discussion in the country's political system. The Role of Intelligence in Addressing the Potential Threats of Identity Politics on Twitter Leading up to the 2024 Indonesian Election

In our digital era, social media, particularly Twitter, has become a global phenomenon with 556 million monthly active users worldwide. In Indonesia, Twitter has 24 million active users and is ranked fifth globally. As Indonesia approaches the politically crucial year of 2024, marked by upcoming elections, the use of identity politics on platforms like Twitter poses a potential threat to the integrity of safe and democratic processes. This research aims to analyze the potential identity politics threats on Twitter social media leading up to the 2024 elections. The study also aims to analyze the role of intelligence in addressing potential identity politics threats on Twitter social media that may arise ahead of the 2024 elections. To address this concern, this research employs a qualitative approach, incorporating data collection techniques such as literature review, focus group discussions, and in-depth interviews with three key informants. The analysis is conducted through threat analysis methodologies. The central research question seeks to identify and understand the potential threats associated with identity politics on Twitter in the lead-up to the 2024 elections, and to delineate the role of intelligence agencies in countering these threats. The research findings have identified 12 potential threats related to identity politics on Twitter leading up to the 2024 elections, thereby offering actionable recommendations for intelligence agencies to consider in their efforts to safeguard the democratic process.
