Equipamento de Proteção Individual (EPI) refere-se a dispositivos destinados ao uso pessoal, cuja função é minimizar certos tipos de acidentes e oferecer proteção contra determinadas doenças que podem surgir devido ao ambiente de trabalho. Esses equipamentos devem ser utilizados quando as medidas de proteção coletiva não são suficientes para eliminar os riscos. Acidente de trabalho é definido como qualquer evento relacionado ao exercício profissional que resulte em lesão corporal, distúrbio funcional ou doença, podendo causar morte ou perda, total ou parcial, temporária ou permanente, da capacidade para o trabalho. Apesar da presença de diversos riscos no ambiente laboral, a falta de consistência no uso dos EPIs continua sendo um dos principais fatores que agravam a gravidade dos acidentes de trabalho. Os EPIs são de extrema importância para os trabalhadores, pois permitem que realizem suas atividades de forma segura, sem comprometer sua saúde e integridade física. A não utilização dos EPIs pode resultar em consequências desastrosas, não apenas para o trabalhador, mas também para o empregador e a sociedade em geral. Isso ocorre devido ao aumento da incidência de doenças ocupacionais e acidentes de trabalho, acarretando impactos econômicos e sociais negativos.
