Disentangling Population Level Differences in Juvenile Migration Phenology for Three Species of Salmon on the Yukon River

Migration phenology influences many important ecological processes. For juvenile Pacific salmon, the timing of the seaward migration from fresh to marine waters is linked to early marine survival and adult returns. Seaward migration phenology is determined by interactions between the intrinsic attributes of individual species and environmental factors that are acting upon them. Temperature and discharge are two factors of the freshwater environment that have been shown to influence intra- and interannual variation in juvenile salmon phenology, but these factors may affect the migrations of sympatric species differently. Understanding how variations in phenology change with environmental heterogeneity is a critical first step in evaluating how the future climate may affect salmon. This is especially crucial for high-latitude rivers, where the pace of climate change is nearly twice as rapid as it is for more temperate areas. This research investigates the influence of river conditions on the seaward migration phenology of Chinook, chum, and coho salmon in the Yukon River. The results identified species-specific differences in the factors affecting migration duration, concentration, and skew and provide a starting point for a more detailed examination of how phenological variability may affect the temporal matching of juvenile salmon with biological resources and environmental conditions for optimal survival.

Individual differences in social homeostasis.

The concept of "social homeostasis", introduced by Matthews and Tye in 2019, has provided a framework with which to consider our changing individual needs for social interaction, and the neurobiology underlying this system. This model was conceived as including detector systems, a control center with a setpoint, and effectors which allow us to seek out or avoid additional social contact. In this article, we review and theorize about the many different factors that might contribute to the setpoint of a person or animal, including individual, social, cultural, and other environmental factors. We conclude with a consideration of the empirical challenges of this exciting new model.

Body Dissatisfaction and Social Anxiety among Adolescents: A Moderated Mediation Model of Feeling of Inferiority, Family Cohesion and Friendship Quality

Previous research has documented that body dissatisfaction is positively related to social anxiety. However, little is known about the mediating and moderating mechanisms underlying this relation. Based on person-environment interaction theory, this study aimed to examine the chain mediation effect of feeling of inferiority and family cohesion in the relationship between body dissatisfaction and social anxiety among adolescents and whether this mediating process was moderated by friendship quality. A total of 972 students (M = 15.77, SD = 0.856) were enrolled in this study. All participants completed questionnaires regarding adolescent body dissatisfaction, feeling of inferiority, family cohesion, friendship quality and social anxiety. Our study found that body dissatisfaction was positively associated with social anxiety. Feeling of inferiority and family cohesion were found to play a chain-mediated role in the relation between body dissatisfaction and social anxiety. In addition, friendship quality plays a moderating role in the relationship between body dissatisfaction and social anxiety. According to the person-environment interaction theory, this study not only confirms the effect of body dissatisfaction on social anxiety in a collectivist culture, but also reveals the mechanism of the role of individual characteristics (feeling of inferiority) and external environmental factors (family cohesion) in the relationship between body dissatisfaction and social anxiety, and the moderating effect of friendship quality on the whole mechanism. These findings show lights on how body dissatisfaction is associated with social anxiety in adolescents.

What Factors Influence the Entrepreneurial Behavior and Performance of MSMEs Survivors of Covid-19?

Objectives: The objective of this research is to analyze the impact of individual factors, environmental factors, and entrepreneurial behavior on the performance of MSMEs post the height of the Covid-19 pandemic.Methodology: This study uses a quantitative approach and the data was obtained by a questionnaire with 170 respondents from Jakarta who run micro, small, and medium enterprise (MSME) and applies digitalization in their business process. Data were processed using the SEM-PLS program.Finding: The result shows that individual factors influence entrepreneurial behavior. In addition, environmental factors influence individual factors. However, individual factors don’t significantly influence firm performance. Meanwhile individual and environmental factor mediates entrepreneurial behavior’s positive influence on firm performance. Conclusion: This study concludes that many, not only internal but external factors play a key role in how certain MSMEs can cope and survive during the Covid-19 pandemic. This study also contributes to showcasing some of the responses to government involvement and digitalization coupled with the MSMEs’ entrepreneurial behavior that can influence their performances.

Evaluation of the Clinical Features of Bronchiolitis in Paediatric Patients and Exploration of the Risk Factors

Background: In general, bronchiolitis presents as a progressive viral respiratory illness in children younger than 2 years of age, most commonly between 2-6 months. Objective: The study was conducted to assess the clinical presentations of acute bronchiolitis in infants and young children and to evaluate the individual characteristics and environmental factors which can increase the risk of severe disease and hospitalization. Methodology: This descriptive study was conducted in the department of Paediatrics, Khwaja Yunus Ali Medical College and Hospital, Enayetpur, Sirajganj. A total of 70 patients were included in the study, who were admitted to the hospital with a clinical and radiological diagnosis of acute bronchiolitis and were followed up in the Paediatric department during January, 2021 to December, 2021. Data collection was done by using a questionnaire form and by physical examination. The information for the questionnaire was provided by the childrens’ mothers. The SPSS software was used for data analysis. Results: According to the results of the study, 39(55.7%) children were infants, aged between 2-6 months, 21(30.0%) were between 7-12 months and 10(14.3%) children of more than 12 months of age. Boys (47, 67.1%) were affected more commonly than girls (23, 32.9%) in a ratio of 2:1. Some 60 (85.7%) of the children had siblings and 46 (65.7%) children lived in crowded environment at home. Many (25, 35.7%) parents of the children were cigarette smokers and 37(52.9%) children were given formula feeds. There was previous history of hospitalization among 14(20.0%) cases and 5(7.1%) children were pre-term. The most common clinical presentations of bronchiolitis were cough among 61(87.1%) cases, wheeze in 56(80.0%), respiratory distress in 49(70.0%) and feeding difficulty in 28(40.0%) children. Conclusion: The risk factors for bronchiolitis were young age (2-6 months), presence of a sibling, a history of hospital admission, crowding and paternal smoking at home and formula feeding. Regulation of carotenoid and flavonoid biosynthetic pathways in Lactuca sativa var capitate L. in protected cultivation.

In the face of a growing world population and limited land, there is an urgent demand for higher productivity of food crops, and cultivation systems must be adapted to future needs. Sustainable crop production should aim for not only high yields, but also high nutritional values. In particular, the consumption of bioactive compounds such as carotenoids and flavonoids is associated with a reduced incidence of non-transmissible diseases. Modulating environmental conditions by improving cultivation systems can lead to the adaption of plant metabolisms and the accumulation of bioactive compounds. The present study investigates the regulation of carotenoid and flavonoid metabolisms in lettuce (Lactuca sativa var capitate L.) grown in a protected environment (polytunnels) compared to plants grown without polytunnels. Carotenoid, flavonoid and phytohormone (ABA) contents were determined using HPLC-MS and transcript levels of key metabolic genes were analyzed by RT-qPCR. In this study, we observed inverse contents of flavonoids and carotenoids in lettuce grown without or under polytunnels. Flavonoid contents on a total and individual level were significantly lower, while total carotenoid content was higher in lettuce plants grown under polytunnels compared to without. However, the adaptation was specific to the level of individual carotenoids. For instance, the accumulation of the main carotenoids lutein and neoxanthin was induced while the β-carotene content remained unchanged. In addition, our findings suggest that the flavonoid content of lettuce depends on transcript levels of the key biosynthetic enzyme, which is modulated by UV light. A regulatory influence can be assumed based on the relation between the concentration of the phytohormone ABA and the flavonoid content in lettuce. In contrast, the carotenoid content is not reflected in transcript levels of the key enzyme of either the biosynthetic or the degradation pathway. Nevertheless, the carotenoid metabolic flux determined using norflurazon was higher in lettuce grown under polytunnels, suggesting posttranscriptional regulation of carotenoid accumulation, which should be an integral part of future studies. Therefore, a balance needs to be found between the individual environmental factors, including light and temperature, in order to optimize the carotenoid or flavonoid contents and to obtain nutritionally highly valuable crops in protected cultivation.

Recognizing the Viewpoint and Experience of Blind People in Navigation and Daily Traffic

Background and Objectives: One of the most obvious problems faced by the blind is the inability to navigate properly. Safe and independent urban navigation is difficult for visually impaired people. According to the international classification of functioning, disability, and health (ICF), the health and illness status of a person is measured by the structure and function of the body, limitations in performing activities, and the person’s participation in society. Individual factors and environmental factors affect a person’s activities, and these activities affect a person’s participation in society. For this reason, the present study was conducted to investigate the individual factors that blind people use in their daily traffic. Methods: In this qualitative study, 12 blind people, 1 person with severe visual impairment, and 1 sighted person were selected using the snowball sampling method to participate in the study. Information was collected through in-depth and semi-structured interviews. The conventional content analysis method was used for analysis and the data triangulation method was used to validate the findings. Results: After analyzing the statements and classifying the extracted codes, 4 sub-themes were obtained, including “learning the route”, “reluctance to travel”, “helping others”, "using environmental signs” and from the integration of these sub-themes, the theme “daily traffic” appeared. Conclusion: The present study showed that blind people use similar strategies in their daily traffic. These solutions include keeping the path, traveling on familiar paths, using environmental signs, and getting help from others. Reasons, such as fear of the environment, fear of injury, and the family’s unwillingness to leave are an obstacle to the independent movement of the blind person.

Omics sciences and precision medicine in glioblastoma.

Glioblastoma is a highly aggressive and malignant type of brain cancer with a poor prognosis, despite current treatment options of surgery, radiation therapy, and chemotherapy. These treatments have limitations due to the aggressive nature of the cancer and the difficulty in completely removing the tumor without damaging healthy brain tissue. Personalized medicine, using genomic profiling to tailor treatment to the patient's specific tumor, and immunotherapy have shown promise in clinical trials. The blood-brain barrier also poses a challenge in delivering treatments to the brain, and researchers are exploring various approaches to bypass it. More effective, personalized treatment approaches are needed to improve outcomes for glioblastoma patients. This tumor is studied using genomics, transcriptomics, and proteomics techniques, to better understand its underlying molecular mechanisms. Recent studies have used these techniques to identify potential therapeutic targets, molecular subtypes, and heterogeneity of tumor cells. Advancements in omics sciences have improved our understanding of glioblastoma biology, and precision medicine approaches have impli-cations for more accurate diagnoses, improved treatment outcomes, and personalized preventive care. Precision medicine can match patients with drugs that target specific genetic mutations, improve clinical trials, and identify individuals at higher risk for certain diseases. Precision medicine, which involves customizing medical treatment based on an individual's genetic makeup, lifestyle, and environmental factors, has shown promise in improving treatment outcomes for glioblastoma patients. Identifying biomarkers is essential for patient stratification and treatment selection in precision medicine approaches for glioblastoma, and several biomarkers have shown promise in predicting patient response to treatment. Targeted therapies are a key component of precision medicine approaches in glioblastoma, but there is still a need to improve their effectiveness. Technical challenges, such as sample quality and availability, and challenges in analyzing and interpreting large amounts of data remain significant obstacles in omics sciences and precision medicine for glioblastoma. The clinical implementation of precision medicine in glioblastoma treatment faces challenges related to patient selection, drug development, and clinical trial design, as well as ethical and legal considerations related to patient privacy, informed consent, and access to expensive treatments.

The influence of farmers' business behavior in achieving success with integrated paddy and beef cattle agricultural systems in Indonesia

An integrated agricultural system between paddy and beef cattle can provide more benefits for farmers while maintaining environmental sustainability. This research aims to determine the influence of farmers’ business behavior on achieving success with an integrated farming system between rice and beef cattle in Indonesia. This research was conducted through the purposive sampling of 183 respondents who were rice farmers and beef cattle breeders in Karanganyar Regency. A sample of farmers was selected that had implemented an integrated farming system between paddy and cattle for at least one year. The variables used in this study included individual factors, environmental factors, business behavior, and business performance. The data were analyzed through Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) using AMOS (Analysis of Moment Structure) software. The results showed that farmers’ business behavior could influence farmers’ business performance in achieving success with an integrated farming system between paddy and beef cattle. This study showed that individual factors, environmental factors, and business behavior can increase a farmer’s business performance.

Utility of Environmental Complexity as a Predictor of Alzheimer’s Disease Diagnosis: A Big-Data Machine Learning Approach

BackgroundRural-urban differences and spatial navigation deficits have received much attention in Alzheimer’s Disease research. While individual environmental and neighborhood factors have been independently investigated, their integrative, multifactorial effects on Alzheimer’s diagnosis have not. Here we explore this “environmental complexity” for predictive power in classifying Alzheimer’s from cognitively-normal status.MethodsWe utilized data from the National Alzheimer’s Coordinating Center (NACC) uniform data set containing annual visits since 2005 and selected individuals with multiple visits and who remained in their zipcode (N = 22,553). We georeferenced each subject with 3-digit zipcodes of their residences since entering the program. We calculated environmental complexity measures using geospatial tools from street networks and landmarks for spatial navigation in subjects’ zipcode zones. Zipcode zones were grouped into two cognitive classes (Cognitively-Normal and Alzheimer’s-inclined) based on the ratios of AD and dementia subjects to all subjects in an individual zipcode zone. We randomly selected 80% of the data to train a neural network classifier model on environmental complexity measures to predict the cognitive class for each zone, controlling for salient demographic variables. The remaining 20% served as the test set for performance evaluation.ResultsOur proposed model reached excellent classification ability on the testing data: 83.87% accuracy, 95.23% precision, 83.33% recall, and 0.8889 F1-score (F1-score=1 for perfect prediction). The most salient features of “Alzheimer’s-inclined” zipcode zones included longer street-length average, higher circuity, and slightly fewer points of interest. Most “cognitively-normal” zipcode zones appeared in or near urban areas with high environmental complexity measures.ConclusionEnvironmental complexity, reflected in frequency and density of street networks and landmarks features, predicted with high precision the cognitive status of 3-digit zipcode zones based on the etiologic diagnoses and observed cognitive impairment of NACC subjects residing in these zones. The zipcode zones vary widely in size (1.6 km2 to 35,241 km2), and large zipcode zones suffer high spatial heterogeneity. Other proven AD risk factors, such as PM2.5, disperse across zones, and so do individual’s activities, leading to spatial uncertainty. Nevertheless, the model classifies diagnosis well, establishing the need for prospective experiments to quantify effects of environmental complexity on Alzheimer’s development.

Endotyping COPD: hypoxia-inducible factor-2 as a molecular "switch" between the vascular and airway phenotypes?

COPD is a heterogeneous disease with multiple clinical phenotypes. COPD endotypes can be determined by different expressions of hypoxia-inducible factors (HIFs), which, in combination with individual susceptibility and environmental factors, may cause predominant airway or vascular changes in the lung. The pulmonary vascular phenotype is relatively rare among COPD patients and characterised by out-of-proportion pulmonary hypertension (PH) and low diffusing capacity of the lung for carbon monoxide, but only mild-to-moderate airway obstruction. Its histologic feature, severe remodelling of the small pulmonary arteries, can be mediated by HIF-2 overexpression in experimental PH models. HIF-2 is not only involved in the vascular remodelling but also in the parenchyma destruction. Endothelial cells from human emphysema lungs express reduced HIF-2α levels, and the deletion of pulmonary endothelial Hif-2α leads to emphysema in mice. This means that both upregulation and downregulation of HIF-2 have adverse effects and that HIF-2 may represent a molecular "switch" between the development of the vascular and airway phenotypes in COPD. The mechanisms of HIF-2 dysregulation in the lung are only partly understood. HIF-2 levels may be controlled by NAD(P)H oxidases via iron- and redox-dependent mechanisms. A better understanding of these mechanisms may lead to the development of new therapeutic targets.

The relationship between big five personality and quality of life of people with disabilities: The mediating effect of social support.

The quality of life of people with disabilities is of great significance to social stability and development. Increasing the quality of life among the disabled has become a worldwide topic. This study aims to examine the relationship between the big five personality and quality of life and the mediating effects of social support indicators in people with disabilities. This was a cross-sectional study with 358 people with disabilities (193 women and 165 men). A questionnaire was utilized to measure big five personality, social support, and quality of life variables. Pearson's correlation analysis and structural equation modeling were used to examine the relation among big five personality, social support, and quality of life. QOL was positively correlated with social support (r = 0.402, p < 0.001), extraversion (r = 0.324, p < 0.001), agreeableness (r = 0.474, p < 0.001), conscientiousness (r = 0.482, p < 0.001), and openness (r = 0.498, p < 0.001). QOL was negatively correlated with neuroticism (r = -0.186, p < 0.001). The mediating effect of social support on the relationship between neuroticism and the quality of life of people with disabilities was not significant. Social support significantly mediated the relationship between extraversion, agreeableness, conscientiousness, openness, and quality of life. Overall, positive personality traits (extraversion, agreeableness, conscientiousness, and openness) in the Big Five Personality of people with disabilities could increase their quality of life by Perceiving social support. But social support could not significantly mediate the relationship between neuroticism and the quality of life of people with disabilities. These new findings suggest that combining individual factors (personality) and environmental factors (social support) can better improve the quality of life of people with disabilities.

Spermatozoa motility traits of chub (Squalius cephalus L.) under the influence of various water factors

Spermatozoa of different species are characterised by specific traits of movement and sensitivity spectrum to individual environmental factors. The present study aimed to evaluate spermatozoa motility traits and the effect of some water factors such as osmolality, sodium, potassium concentration, and pH on chub spermatozoa movement characteristics. Motility parameters characterising spermatozoa motility were determined using computer-assisted sperm analysis (CASA) and standardised conditions. Other features were also determined, such as the composition of seminal plasma and purine and pyridine nucleotide concentration in spermatozoa. The milt volume of chub from a natural watercourse ranged from 0.5 to 3.5 mL, and the mean spermatozoa concentration was 21.5 × 109 mL−1. Percentage of motile spermatozoa varied from 70% to 99%. Spermatozoa achieved VCL velocity of 53.7 µms−1, LIN of 75.0%, ALH of 0.85 µm, BCF of 15.4 Hz at 10 s post-activation and motility duration of 40 s in distilled water at 15°C and pH 8. The increasing osmolality of the external environment increased motility duration and slightly improved velocity. Motility duration was prolonged in sodium and potassium chloride solutions compared to non-ionic sugar solutions. In order to trigger the best chub’s spermatozoa motility trait, an ionic solution of osmolality of 150–200 mOsm kg−1 and pH 7–8 should be used. Osmolality close to the osmolality of seminal plasma 280 mOsm kg−1 immobilises spermatozoa. In seminal plasma, higher dispersion between the Na+ and K+ concentration was detected in chub compared to other representatives of Cypriniformes. The mean ATP concentration in immotile spermatozoa was 37.9 pmol 10−6 cells. Although some peculiarities in milt were detected, the spermatozoa motility traits of chub and its sensitivity to the environment are typical for Cypriniformes. Research in fish from different taxa according to their sensitivity to environmental components should continue as they differ from each other.

Family Household Characteristics and Stunting: An Update Scoping Review

Stunting remains a public health concern in developing countries. Factors related to stunting have been categorized using various frameworks. Family plays an important role in providing nutrients for children; however, no review specifies this aspect for identifying family characteristics related to stunting. This study aimed to identify family household characteristics related to stunting among children aged less than 5 years. A scoping review was undertaken with sources from PubMed, CINAHL, and Scopus, using the keywords "family characteristics" AND "growth". Inclusion criteria were (1) correlational study; (2) published between 2018 and 31 July 2022; (3) families with children under the age of 5 years; and (4) independent variable any measure of stunting factors from family and household factors. Of 376 articles, only 20 met the inclusion criteria of the study. The family household characteristics included individual factors (sex age, history of diarrhea, and birthplace), family factors (family headship, primary caregiver/mother, social-cultural orientation, and family system factors), and environmental factors. Various child variables, family factors, and environmental factors (the type of home, floor type, water access, source of drinking water, and household electricity) were identified as being associated with stunting. Therefore, these factors should be evaluated to prevent and control stunting, and they should be incorporated into health programs targeting stunting.

Clinicospirometric profile of COPD patients presenting to tertiary care center in Vadodara, Gujarat

Background: Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is heterogeneous lung condition presenting with chronic respiratory symptoms. Pathogenesis of the disease process includes exposure to noxious particles and gases starting accelerated inflammation. Individual genetic make-up and environmental factors play role in disease process. COPD shows persistent airflow limitation affecting airways and alveoli. They can be affected individually or at the same time. Hence, each patient experiences COPD as a different amalgamation of bronchitis, bronchiolitis, and emphysema. We set to find out individualized clinical profiles in COPD for same reason. Aims and Objectives: The aim of the study was to build a clinical and spirometric profile of diagnosed COPD patients presenting to a tertiary health care center in Vadodara. Materials and Methods: A retrospective analysis of records 425 COPD patients was conducted. Relevant clinical data were collected from excel sheet along with spirometric findings. Results: Average age of presentation was 58.10 years. Lowest age was 40 years. Out of 425 patients, 352 (82%) were males and 73 (18%) were females. Out of total, 263 (62%) were smokers and 162 (38%) non-smokers. Most common presenting symptom was cough with expectoration in 423 (99.5%) patients followed by breathlessness in 412 (96.9%), fever in 148 (34.8%), and pedal edema in 38 (8.9%). Average forced expiratory volume in 1s at presentation was 43.27 L/min. Out of total admissions, 61 (14.3%) were classified as very severe, 249 (58.5%) as severe, and 115 (27%) as moderate according to COPD Global initiative for obstructive lung diseases severity classification. Conclusion: COPD is considered as disease of old age and associated with smoking, our study showed more than one-fourth of the population as non-smoker. To avoid under-diagnosis, COPD should be considered in younger age group and non-smokers.

Factors influencing the adaptability and habitat use of rescued Malayan sun bears (

Context The lack of documentation and detailed assessment of previous sun bear (Helarctos malayanus) release programs raises concerns about bears’ capacity to adapt to their new habitats and key elements of release success. Aims We evaluated the influence of the sun bears’ individual profiles and environmental factors on their adaptability, and investigated their habitat use and movements in the wild. Methods We released 13 rescued sun bears (four wild-caught and nine rehabilitated) to natural habitats between December 2015 and August 2017, and inferred adaptability process by analysing their pre- and post-release data. Key results Post-release monitoring showed that sun bears required at least a month to acclimatise to their release area. No nuisance cases were reported, and bears were observed avoiding monitoring teams in a series of encounters. Principal-component analysis identified a previous history of ill health (e.g. malnutrition), low avoidance of humans prior to release and low potential of release sites as significant factors associated with poor adaptability of released bears. Rehabilitated bears also showed lower adaptability to hilly topography with an average elevation of more than 500 m. Individual profiles of adult physically fit wild-caught bears with high avoidance of humans prior to release were associated with high adaptability. Binary logistic regression indicated that habitat type was the main factor influencing bear movement. Bears had a high affinity for oil palm plantations adjacent to the forest edge. Most habitat use of released bears was close to the forest edge. Conclusions In terms of competition, predation, food availability, and adaptability, the selection of forest edges adjacent to other favourable habitats is perceived as a more opportunistic survival strategy, as long as the bears do not rely on humans to survive and endure with the natural interactions in the wild. Implications This study emphasises the importance of improving the likelihood of survival of rehabilitated bears, especially in the early release phase. Reducing human–bear interaction in rehabilitation centres by practising a buddy system and minimal human contact in captivity considerably enhances release effectiveness.

Early childhood eating behaviors associated with risk of overweight and its socio-ecological determinants in Korean preschool children.

This study aimed to identify preschool children's eating behaviors associated with early childhood obesity and its multi-level, socio-ecological determinants. In a cross-sectional study of 364 mothers of preschool children aged 3-5 years, these children's healthy eating behaviors were assessed using a validated preschool nutrition quotient (NQ-P) questionnaire. The children's overweight or obesity statuses were determined based on body mass index percentiles from the 2017 Korean National Growth Chart. The associations between the NQ-P score and risk of overweight or obesity were examined using multivariable logistic regression. The associations of individual, maternal, physical, and media environmental factors with the NQ-P score were also examined using multivariable linear regression. Preschool children with greater NQ-P scores were at a significantly lower risk of overweight or obesity (P < 0.01). The NQ-P score had a significantly positive association with maternal body mass index and an inverse association with household income (all P < 0.05). Maternal parenting and feeding practices exhibited associations with the NQ-P score. Positive associations were observed with "warm," "structured," and "autonomy-supportive" parenting as well as monitoring feeding practices (all P < 0.05). In addition, the NQ-P score had a significantly positive association with the childcare center's anti-obesogenic environment, such as the provision of nutritional and physical-activity support and vicinity of the built food environment to the home, including access to good-quality food, fruits and vegetables, and low-fat foods (all P < 0.05). Regarding media environments, the NQ-P score demonstrated more significant associations with viewing and eating and/or cooking content displayed on online video platforms (all P < 0.05) than with that on television. Our findings confirm the significance of healthy eating behaviors in early-childhood-obesity prevention and underscore the importance of multilevel maternal, physical, and media environmental interventions that effectively guide eating behaviors in preschool children.

Search for new therapeutic targets in asthma. Review.

A review of recent publications devoted to the study of risk factors for the onset of the disease, mechanisms, diagnosis and treatment of asthma from the point of view of molecular allergology is presented. New concepts and problems in the implementation of the exposome paradigm and its practical application are considered, including genetic and epigenetic factors, environmental impact. The most relevant experimental studies are noted that contribute to further understanding of molecular and immune mechanisms with potential new targets for the development of therapeutic agents. Reliable diagnosis of asthma, endotyping of the disease and monitoring of its severity are of great importance in the treatment of asthma. The heterogeneity of asthma is due to individual genetic and epigenetic variability, exposure to individual environmental factors (depending on regional characteristics, changing climatic conditions and population distribution), which explains the occurrence of asthma is not associated only with allergies. The modern assessment and treatment of comorbid/multimorbid asthma is described, including interaction with asthma phenotypes, which is important for the formation of a new therapeutic personalized approach to precision medicine and testing of prognostic biomarkers. The results of clinical trials, multicenter international studies on the use of new approaches in the diagnosis of asthma (candidate biomarkers) based on molecular allergology and treatment in adults and children using biological preparations are given.

Epidemiology of bovine colostrum production in New York Holstein herds: Cow, management, and environmental factors

Adequate supply of high-quality colostrum is essential for calf health. Colostrum production, at first milking, varies between animals and seasons, but herd-level and management associations with colostrum production have not been well described. Our objectives were to (1) describe colostrum production and colostrum handling practices and (2) to identify individual cow, herd management, and environmental factors associated with colostrum production. A convenience sample of 19 New York Holstein dairy farms (620 to 4,600 cows) were enrolled in this observational study to describe colostrum production and to evaluate cow, management, and prepartum environmental factors associated with colostrum yield and Brix %. Herd owners or managers were given a colostrum management questionnaire, and farm personnel recorded individual colostrum yield and Brix % for primiparous (PP; n = 5,978) and multiparous (MPS; n = 13,228) cows between October 2019 and February 2021. Temperature, relative humidity, and light intensity were measured by sensors placed in each farm's close-up dry cow pens for the entire length of the study. Median colostrum yield for each farm ranged from 2.5 to 7.6 kg for PP and 4.0 to 7.7 kg for MPS cows. Mean Brix % from each farm ranged from 22.2 to 27.9% for PP and 22.0 to 28.8% for MPS cows. Lowest colostrum yield from PP animals was associated with calf sex (female) and colostrum Brix % (≤22%). Greatest colostrum yield from MPS cows was associated with colostrum Brix % (≤22%), calf sex (twin), dry period length (>67 d), gestation length (283-293 d), an alive calf, second parity, previous lactation length (>344 d) and previous lactation 305-d mature equivalent milk yield (>13,091 kg), heat and humidity exposure area under the curve (AUC) 7 d before calving (>69.2 average temperature-humidity index per 30-min interval), and light intensity AUC 14 d before calving (>154.2 average lux per 15-min interval). Greatest colostrum Brix % from PP animals was associated with calf sex (male), an alive calf, and light intensity AUC 14 d before calving (≤64.0 average lux per 15-min interval). Greatest colostrum Brix % from MPS cows was associated with dry period length (>67 d), an alive calf, 305-d mature equivalent milk yield of previous lactation (≤15,862 kg), gestation length (274-282 d), colostrum yield (<6 kg), fifth or greater parity, and heat and humidity exposure AUC 7 d before calving (≤50.1 average temperature-humidity index per 30-min interval). Dairy producers can use this information to recognize the variation in colostrum production and alter colostrum management programs in anticipation of periods of low production or quality.

Designing A Quality Assessment Model for Nursing Services Management in Selected Medical Universities of Iran

Background: Advancing a culture of care greatness, at distinctive levels of management and care such as nursing management, has created way better desires and inspiration. Objectives: To design a suitable model for measuring the quality of nursing services management in selected universities of medical sciences in Iran. Methods: This was exploratory mixed research. In the qualitative stage, the data collection tool was interview. Semi-structured interviews with 12 experts and university professors were used. Qualitative data is first collected, then, based on the findings of qualitative data, research tools are taken, and quantitative data are collected. Categories are extracted after implementing the discussions on paper, open coding (reading the data line by line, extracting the main concepts and sentences, forming the first categories and classes) and axial coding (data classification, subcategory specification, final class formation). In the next step, there is optional coding. The statistical population in this study is all nurses in Tehran, Kermanshah and Guilan, totally 255 people. A researcher-made questionnaire was used to collect data in a quantitative phase. 152 completed questionnaires were collected from the samples. After collecting the questionnaires, it was statistically analyzed. Confirmatory factor analysis was used to evaluate the validity of the questionnaire, and structural equation modeling (SEM) with the help of SmartPLS 3 software was used to evaluate the research questions. Results: Factors affecting the quality of nursing services management in Tehran, Kermanshah and Guilan Universities of Medical Sciences are: Individual factors, educational factors, motivational factors, international factors, social factors, environmental factors, intra-organizational factors and technological factors. Conclusions: The Proposed model has a strong fit. Suggestions based on the research results are: Evaluation of training courses, repetition of skills in the program by the trainee should be predicted so that the skill in the person becomes a behavioral habit and, in fact, behavioral consolidation, repetition of skills in the program by the trainee should be so in order for a skill to become a behavioral habit in the individual and in fact to be behaviorally established, the difference between individuals must be identified.
