Exploring Indicators Impacting Gross Domestic Product: A Case of the Gulf Cooperation Council Members

This study investigates the factors that influenced the economic growth of the six Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) members from 1990 to 2021. The study employed statistical methods such as ordinary least squares (OLS), fixed-effects model (FEM), and generalized method of moments (GMM) regressions to arrive at its findings. The World Bank and International Monetary Fund (IMF) databases provided the data for this paper. The six Gulf Cooperation Council members are the United Arab Emirates (UAE), the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the State of Qatar, the Sultanate of Oman, the State of Kuwait, and the Kingdom of Bahrain. In fact, the economies of Gulf Cooperation Council members (countries) are highly dependent on the oil sector. Therefore, one of the main positive indicators of gross domestic product in the Gulf Cooperation Council countries is oil prices. In addition, inflation plays a significant and positive role in supporting the gross domestic product in the Gulf Cooperation Council area. In contrast, unemployment rates and the COVID-19 pandemic impacted the gross domestic product in the Gulf Cooperation Council region significantly and negatively. The implications of this study help policymakers make the right decisions and implement policies to increase economic growth in Gulf Cooperation Council countries. Furthermore, this study supports economists and academics in conducting their research in the same field.

COMPARISON OF TAX BURDEN INDICATORS IN THE CZECH REPUBLIC AND SLOVAKIA

Abstract The article focuses on the comparison of the tax systems of the Czech Republic and Slovakia in the period 2017-2020. First, it deals with a brief description of the basic parameters of Czech and Slovak taxes, which also include contributions to social security and health insurance. In the next section, there are selected indicators of taxation. These indicators are implicit tax rates on consumption, labour, and capital, effective tax rates, tax mix, and tax quota, and on the other hand, the standard of living is presented by the indicator of gross domestic product per inhabitant in purchasing power parity. By evaluating the selected indicators, it was found that the tax burden in the Czech Republic is higher than in Slovakia, although the tax quota indicator indicates the opposite. The impact of linguistic and cultural identity development on the growth of the economy of the Republic of Kazakhstan

Relevance. In view of globalisation and the territorial disputes in the Eurasian region, which have escalated to warfare, the issue of national identity has become particularly relevant.Purpose. The research aims to determine the dynamics of the cultural identity of the citizens of the Republic of Kazakhstan (RK), identify the key directions in the further development of the traditions of the Kazakh people and describe the impact of these processes on the growth of the country�s economy.Methodology. Methods of statistical analysis and forecasting were applied, a list of key indicators was compiled and a trend line was formed. Regression analysis was also performed to better understand the relationship between the indicators, and an internet questionnaire survey of the citizens of the Republic of Kazakhstan was compiled to determine the subjective perception of the nation�s iconic symbols and to find out the dynamics of actual household incomes.Results. As a result, data were obtained on the total number of RK residents, those who identify themselves as Kazakhs, and those who consider Kazakh as their native language. These data in dynamics were compared with the indicators of gross domestic product, which demonstrated a clear direct correlation between these phenomena, additionally confirmed by regression statistics. In addition, the relationship between the growth of cultural identity and the increase in television content in the Kazakh language was analysed.Conclusions. The practical significance of the work lies in obtaining a confirmed way of achieving economic growth through the influence of national television, as well as the presence of representative feedback from society on such key programmes as the development of national identity, the creation of iconic landmarks and national parks, and support for Qazaq repatriates to their historical homeland.

Tweeting the economy: Analyzing social media sentiments and macroeconomic indicators

This research aims to examine the correlation between social media sentiment and the Consumer Confidence Index (CCI) as well as Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in Indonesia. Data were collected through web scraping from Twitter (now also known as X) spanning from 2019 to 2022 on a monthly basis. Using Pearson and Kendall’s Tau correlation tests, the study found that the correlation between Twitter sentiment and the CCI is not significant. However, there is a significant correlation between Twitter sentiment from news accounts and GDP The findings indicate that the views and perceptions expressed in social media sentiment, particularly from news accounts on Twitter, could serve as an initial indicator of Indonesia's GDP.

Approaches to providing coordination of the regional development policy regarding the restoration of the territories damaged during the course of the war

The article substantiates approaches to ensuring the coordination of regional development policy regarding the restoration of war-damaged territories. It is emphasized that the key to solving regional problems is ensuring the coordination of regional development policy, which aims to reduce disparities in the development of settlements and regions, this situation creates a challenge in the application of an approach to regional development focused on local needs for recovery. It was noted that today the priorities for ensuring the coordination of regional development policy are the support of specific reconstruction projects in territorial communities and the updating of the State Strategy for Regional Development, which should be based on five key priorities: strategic planning and project management; investments and interaction with donors; anti-corruption activity; digitization and management based on open data; urban planning.
 It was noted that the differentiated geographical impact of the war further exacerbated the differences of the regions in terms of their development opportunities and the necessary state support. For the policy of regional development, which aims to reduce disparities in the development of settlements and regions, this situation creates a challenge in the application of an approach to regional development focused on local needs. Today, the simple differentiation of regions into two groups based on the relative indicator of gross domestic product per capita, which is used by the State Fund for Regional Development, is no longer enough, but a much more detailed approach to the RDP that takes into account local needs and is based on the definition and support of development initiatives implemented at the local and regional levels must be developed.
 It is noted that although some tools and approaches to the policy of regional development are already included in the legislation, the system of vertical coordination, i.e. multi-level management with wide use of public participation in decision-making regarding the further development of administrative-territorial units, still remains quite relevant and needs adaptation to ensure greater flexibility and initiative from below.

The Influence of Political Stability on Indonesia's Gross Domestic Product

The goal of this study is to examine how political stability impacts Indonesia's Gross Domestic Product (GDP). Political stability is a crucial factor in a country's economic development, because it can affect the investment climate, economic growth, and people's welfare. The Central Bureau of Statistics and other relevant organizations' secondary data were used as secondary data sources in this study's qualitative descriptive analysis of the literature. The data collected covers a specific relevant time period and includes indicators of political stability and GDP. The results of the analysis show that political stability has a significant influence on GDP in Indonesia. High political stability tends to create conditions conducive to sustainable economic growth. This is reflected in increased investment, expansion of the industrial sector, and increase in national income. In the Indonesian context, good political stability can increase investor confidence, both domestic and foreign, to invest in various economic sectors. In addition, political stability also provides legal certainty and consistent policies, which help create a favorable investment climate. The government needs to maintain political stability through actions that promote inclusive political participation, fair law enforcement, and consistent and transparent policies. These efforts will strengthen investor confidence, stimulate investment, and promote sustainable economic growth.

Vector Autoregressive Model of GDP, Money Supply and Exchange Rate in Nigeria

The research work on vector autoregressive model on economic indicators of gross domestic product, money supply and exchange rate in Nigeria was developed and adequately model. The study yields a stable vector autoregressive model with stationary process and the estimate of the model where significant. The empirical result yields a stable and sustainable economic model for the three economic variables in the study. The unit root test was achieved at order 1 and the inverse root of the polynomial lies within the unit circle. The iterative step of time series analysis, the computational algorithm of VAR with the model adequacy with respect to the plot of residual of the economic indicators was achieved. The inverse of the characteristics polynomial of the variables lies within the unit circle, the response impulse analysis are within the boundaries of estimation. The study also yields R-square that best describe the fit, with RMSE, MAE and MAPE of the three economic variables. The forecast evaluation analysis indicate an upward fluctuation in a long run, the study is now available for economic practitioners to be used for policy implementation.

Investigating the Relationship Between Canada’s Environmental Quality and GDP-Alternative Measures: An Error Correction Approach

Abstract This paper investigates the long-run relationship between Canada’s total greenhouse gas emissions (as an indicator of environmental quality) and economic development captured by gross domestic product (GDP) and GDP-alternative measures (which are argued to be more representative of the wider-scale economic progress, Rani & Mandal, 2020). The three GDP-alternative measures assessed were gross national disposable income (GNDI), human development index (HDI), and index of economic freedom (IEF). Time series properties of per capita greenhouse gas emissions (GHGpc) were evaluated. Augmented Dickey Fuller stationarity test was performed for GHGpc, after which, Johansen tests were performed to evaluate cointegration between GHGpc and the economic growth measures. Error correction models were run to evaluate the long-run behavior of GHGpc with per capita GDP and GNDI (GDPpc and GNDIpc, respectively), HDI, and IEF. GHGpc was found to be cointegrated with both GDPpc and all the GDP-alternative indicators. The paper contributes to the existing literature by demonstrating that Canada’s per capita GHG emission has a long-run relationship with both GDP and GDP-alternative indicators. This study represents the first assessment in the body of knowledge of the relationship between Canada’s national-level total GHG emissions and GDP-alternative measures. An economic assessment of the impact of climate change on the Gambia’s agriculture sector: a CGE approach

PurposeClimate change and its imminent threat to human survival adversely impact the agriculture sector. In an impoverished country like The Gambia, economic costs of climate change are colossal. This study aims to establish a computable general equilibrium (CGE) model for The Gambia’s agriculture sector to examine the effects of climate change on crops, livestock and sea-level rise.Design/methodology/approachThis study used a CGE model with other climate change impact models to compute the impacts of climate change on The Gambia’s agriculture sector. The social accounting matrix calibrates the results from the various models, thereby generating the baseline results which exemplify a “steady-state” and policy shock results illustrating the medium- and long-term effects of climate change on the country’s agriculture sector.FindingsThe baseline results indicate the status quo showing the neglect of the agriculture sector due to limited investment in the sector. Hence, the sector is the “hardest hit” sector as a result of climate change. When the model factored in climate change in the medium term (2055) and long term (2085), the macroeconomic indicators of gross domestic product, national savings, wages, disposable income and consumer price index deteriorated, elucidating the vulnerability of the economy to climate change. The consumption of groundnuts, cattle and fish will decline by 5%, 5% and 4%, respectively, in the long term. However, the production of all agricultural commodities will decline by an average of 35% for the same period. The results for international trade show that exportation would decline while importation will increase over time. The general price level for agricultural commodities would increase by 3% in 2055 and 5% in 2085. Generally, the results manifest the severity of climate change in the agriculture sector which will have a multiplier effect on the economy. The impact of climate change would result in agriculture and economic decline causing hunger, poverty and human misery.Originality/valueThe caveat of this study revealed the nuances not captured by previous Gambian climate change studies, thus the novelty of the study.

Impact of COVID-19 on the NSE Nifty and the gross domestic product : Evidence from India

The purpose of this research is to look into the relationship between the NSE Nifty and the Gross Domestic Product. During the Covid-19 epidemic, changes in the relationship between the NSE Nifty and the GDP are investigated. For the years 2000-2001 to 2020-2021 and Q4:2018-19 to Q1:2021-22 of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and NSE Nifty, both annual and quarterly data are used. Unit root tests, Johansen cointegration tests, the Vector error correction model (VECM), the Wald test, the Granger Causality test, and the Karl-Pearson coefficient of correlation were all utilized. The Johansen cointegration test indicates that the NSE Nifty and GDP have a long-run relationship. Similarly, the results of the vector error correction model demonstrate that the NSE Nifty Index has a positive impact on GDP. According to the results of the Granger causality test, the NSE Nifty is the most important indicator of GDP during the Covid-19 period. From the time of the Pre-Covid-19 pandemic until the time of the Covid-period, the strength of the link has grown stronger.

Time Series Characteristics of Canada’s Beyond GDP Indicators

Abstract This paper investigates the time series properties of three Beyond-Gross Domestic Product (BGDP) measures in Canada, namely, gross national disposable income (GNDI), human development index (HDI), and index of economic freedom (IEF), along with Gross Domestic Product (GDP). GDP is the most used metric for measuring economic growth and is susceptible to influence by numerous factors beyond the value of production measured by GDP. BGDP measures have been suggested in the literature as alternative indicators that can capture economic progress in a more holistic way (Kimmerer, 2020). This paper generates and evaluates the descriptive statistics of GDP and BGDP indicators. To evaluate the potential existence of a long run relationship between GDP and BGDP indices, we performed Augmented Dickey Fuller stationarity and Johansen cointegration tests. The results demonstrate that per capita GDP is cointegrated with the BGDP indicators. Furthermore, this study shows for the first time in the literature that BGDP measures are cointegrated when paired with each other. The paper contributes to the literature by highlighting the time series properties of BGDP indicators in Canada. This insight facilitates understanding the behavior of BGDP measures, thereby further enhancing the use of these measures for econometric studies and policy making. Macroeconomic Dynamics of Slovenia and Comparable Central European EU Member States in the Period before Coronavirus Pandemic

The article discusses the macroeconomic dynamics of Slovenia and four other comparable Central European EU member states in the period of twenty years before the coronavirus pandemic. To examine the differences between countries in more detail, we analyzed four periods: 2000–2004, 2004– 2007, 2008–2014 and 2017–2019. We studied the indicators of gross domestic product, gross investment,unemployment, wages, and exports. The findings ofthe research show that Slovenia's position deterioratedand stagnated until a few years before the global health crisis, while the position of most other countries improved. The key message of the research is that Slovenia did not use all its favorable economic and political foundations for growth and development before and in the years after joining the EU. Slovenia's process of approaching the average of the EU member states slowed down considerably until a few years before the pandemic, while the opposite happened in some of the compared Central European EU member states. The research indicates the need to study the factors of the above mentioned position of Slovenia in the observed period with the aim of preventing stagnation and promoting development.

Comparative analysis of the infant mortality rate in the Russian Federation and the Privolzhsky Federal District over 1999–2018

Introduction. The infant mortality (IM) rate is a serious medical, social and demographic problem. This is one of the main indicators of public health, which characterizes not only the quality of the medical and preventive care for women and children, but also the level of socio and economic well-being. The purpose of the study was to investigate the trend in IM indicators in the Privolzhsky Federal District (PFD) and the Russian Federation (RF) over a twenty-year period (1999-2018) and to determine the relationship with the indicators of gross domestic product (GDP). Material and methods. The analysis of official statistical data is carried out and the comparison of regional indicators with the national average values and data for a number of countries of the world is carried out. The paper uses statistical and analytical methods. The correlation between IM, total mortality and the gross regional product (GRP) per capita in the Privolzhsky Federal District and GDP per capita in the Russian Federation is carried out. Results. Over the past 20 years, both in the Privolzhsky Federal District and in the Russian Federation, a decrease in the IM rate value was found to be registered by more than 3 times. There is a strong negative relationship between IM rate and GRP per capita in the Privolzhsky Federal District and IM rate and GDP per capita in the Russian Federation. Limitations. The analysis of infant mortality in the territory of the Privolzhsky Federal District and in the Russian Federation for a 20 years was carried out using a continuous method according to official statistical reports, which is a sufficient reference sample. Conclusion. Without reducing the IM rate in all subjects and districts of the Russian Federation, it is impossible to achieve its reduction in the country as a whole. The main tool for achieving this goal is the implementation of the National Project “Health Care”, which provides, among other things, the reduction of IM. At the same time, IM indicator in Russian Federation was already less than the indicator value of 2020 in 2018, and its value in the Privolzhsky Federal District reached the planned level of 2022. Thus, the final indicator of the National Project is not only achievable, but can also be adjusted in the process of its implementation.

ANALYSIS OF STATE GOVERNANCE IN THE FIELD OF HEALTHCARE IN UKRAINE AND FOREIGN COUNTRIES

The current state of health care in Ukraine is characterized by low efficiency of available logistical using and human resources, slow pace of change in the introduction of innovative diagnostic methods and technologies and lack of understanding of the implementation of standards and indicators of quality and effective management of health services. The goals of health care are to improve health and meet the needs of consumers. The state of the population health depends not only on the provided medical services, but to a large extent on other factors, including the state of the environment, individual heredity, behavioral risk factors, socio-economic status of society and the state of the health care system (Obolenskyi O.Iu., 2007:191). Health care activities should be based on the end results, namely: improving the health of the population; cost and quality of medical services, their availability; fairness and efficiency in the provision of medical services; the effectiveness of mechanisms to protect citizens from financial risk in case of disease (Surmin Yu. P. 2006:307) The authors emphasize the unity of the approach to health care reform in Ukraine at all levels of departmental and national medicine. The study highlights the causes, conditions of formation and functioning of departmental medicine in Ukraine and around the world. The article uses methods of generalization and systematization, grouping and comparison, classification and analogy and systems analysis, as well as the dialectical method and the method of forecasting. The authors analyze the state of health care reform over the past 10 years in countries with high (Britain, France, USA) and low economies (India), with ongoing military conflicts (Israel), with high life expectancy (Italy), with transition economy (Croatia) and in the post-Soviet countries that joined the European Union (Lithuania). The study focuses on the rating indicators of gross domestic product (GDP) and life expectancy, according to analytical reports of international organizations WHO, OECD, International Commonwealth Fund and others.

Methodological Basis of the Comparative Evaluation of Inclusiveness Level of Economic Development

Abstract The article is devoted to the methodological basis of comparative assessment of the level of inclusion of economic development in different areas and regions. The article focuses on the methodological problems of analyzing, evaluating, and raising the level of inclusiveness of economic development. The importance of raising the level of inclusion in the context of new development trends in society and the economy is interpreted. The need for a new look at the scientific and theoretical basics of economic development are emphasized. Available studies on inclusive development issues are analyzed. Indicators and sub-indices characterizing the inclusive development of the society are proposed. An analysis of international scientific research on the problems of inclusive development was conducted. As the increase in the inclusion of the economy leads to an increase in the Gross Domestic Product (GDP), the urgency of developing its prospects is justified. Ratings of advanced countries on inclusive economic development indices were analyzed. Indicators of inclusive development of international economic organizations have been identified and based on them, relevant improvements have been made and additions have been made. Indicators and sub-indices characterizing the inclusive development of society are offered. The evaluation of inclusive development at the international level is analyzed. The methodological basis of the evaluation of the inclusiveness level is explained and a technique is developed. Key efficiency indicators for inclusive growth and development have been identified. The country's National Inclusive Development Index (NII) is proposed as a dependency on sub-indices that reflect several areas. Subindices and indicators forming the level of inclusion of national economic development have been proposed. The scientific-methodological approach proposed for the assessment of inclusion at the national level is presented in the form of algorithms and conceptual stages. Assessment of the level of national inclusion is offered as Level I - inclusion at the national, social, or macro-level; Level II - inclusion of regional or individual cities and regions; Level III - intersectoral or sectorial inclusion; Level IV - inclusion in the private sector, non-governmental structures; Level V - inclusion in non-governmental and public administration; Level VI - inclusion in the micro or enterprises, production level; Level VII - in several sub-levels as individual inclusion in homes and families. National and international evaluation of the inclusive society and economic development is studied. The main factors of inclusive development of Azerbaijan's economy such as GDP per capita, labor productivity, expected healthy life length, employment level, Gini index of income, poverty level, Gini index of wealth, monthly household income, net savings, carbon capacity, public debt to GDP indicators such as ratio, demographic load ratio have been developed. The importance of the use of inclusion technologies was highlighted and reported on. It was noted that the effective platform for increasing the inclusion of the information society has many opportunities. It was noted that the globally implemented “Internet of Things” (IoT), Cloud computing, soft-computing, Big Data technologies, and components of the 4.0 Industrial Revolution will create additional opportunities for joint effective activities of citizens in society, increasing the level of inclusion.

Approaches to evaluating the effectiveness of investments in higher education

Introduction. The role of the importance of higher education in the formation of human capital as a strategic resource of social progress and sustainable development of the country determines the relevance of studies that allow assessing the interdetermination of education and economic growth. The purpose of the article is to identify approaches to assessing the effectiveness of investments in higher education and modeling their impact on the economic growth of post-Soviet countries. Materials and methods. The methodological basis of the study is testing the author's hypothesis and econometric modeling of the influence of macroeconomic indicators characterizing the state of the higher education system on the resulting indicator of gross domestic product per capita as an indicator of economic growth according to data from 15 post-Soviet countries. Methods of economic analysis, statistical and econometric methods were used. For empirical analysis, we used statistical data from the Federal State Statistics Service of the Russian Federation, the World Bank, and the United Nations. Results. The research hypothesis about the positive impact of spending on higher education on the economic growth of the post-Soviet countries has been confirmed. The greatest response to GDP per capita is observed from the indicators "Spending on research and development" and "Admission of high school graduates to higher education". Prediction of the obtained models shows the possibility of a significant increase in GDP per capita with an increase in spending on higher education with a corresponding congruent development of the institutional environment of the post-Soviet countries. Taking into account the identified factors makes it possible to determine priorities for a balanced education and innovation policy in the post-Soviet countries. Conclusions. Empirically substantiated the need to increase investment in the higher education sector to accelerate economic growth and level economic inequality, which must be taken into account when implementing policies in the context of structural reforms in higher education in post-Soviet countries and determining the amount of investment in higher education.

An international bibliometric study of scientific articles on intracranial aneurysms.

The number of original scientific researches on intracranial aneurysms has risen over the last 30 years. Despite the rise in the number of articles, there is no up-to-date exhaustive bibliometric research in the literature. This study aimed to contribute to the literature via a bibliometric analysis of the original scientific researches on intracranial aneurysms published over the last 30 years. The literature review was done using the Web of Science. All articles and its citations containing aneurysm keywords were analyzed in the "title" section of articles published in the research areas: Neurosciences Neurology during 1980-2019. Correlation analyses between the number of articles produced by the countries and their economic and development indicators of gross domestic product, and Human Development Index were analyzed using the Spearman correlation coefficient. Linear regression analysis was utilized to estimate the number of articles to be published in the future. There were a total of 21,673 publications on intracranial aneurysms. Of these publications, 13,371 (61.7%) were articles. The three countries that produced the most articles were the USA (4098), Japan (2668), and China (937). A statistically significant correlation was found between the development indicators of world countries and publication productivity (p<0.001). The three journals that produced the most publications were Neurosurgery, Journal of Neurosurgery, and American Journal of Neuroradiology. The most cited article was published in Journal of Neurosurgery. This bibliometric study provides a collection of data that will help design future research on intracranial aneurysms more efficiently and make innovations at greater speed.

How to Articulate Beyond GDP and Businesses’ Social and Environmental Indicators?

In the past decades, new indicators have been developed to provide alternatives to gross domestic product (GDP) at the macro level and to financial indicators at the business level (businesses’ social and environmental indicators). However, these new indicators are poorly articulated between the business and the macro level. This paper aims to discuss the different possibilities of articulation that exist and outline a framework for a better micro–macro articulation. Firstly, we draw from the example of GDP and traditional business indicators by analysing the way they are articulated. Secondly, we review how sets of alternative indicators aim to articulate the macro and micro level by analysing indicators constructed around gross national happiness (GNH) and sustainable development goals (SDGs). This research shows that two specific types of articulation exist between indicators at different levels, one referred to as the ‘accounting’ type and the other called the ‘conceptual’ type. Their strengths and limits will be discussed, as well as how they can be combined. Finally, recommendations will be provided on how to best articulate beyond GDP and business level indicators.

The article examines the sectoral transformations in the economy of Ukraine for 2010-2019 and their specifics. The sectoral structure is a generalized characteristic of the qualitative level of development of the national economy, and sectoral transformations have a clear both economic and social manifestation. The sectoral proportions of national economies are constantly monitored by international institutions. Comprehensive research of sectoral transformational transformations at the level of the national economy allows to improve the quality of management decisions in substantiating the state structural policy and mechanisms for its implementation. The aim of the article is to analyze the sectoral transformations in the economy of Ukraine for 2010-2019, based on gross domestic product, gross value added and relative indicators of structural changes. The following research methods were used in the article: dialectical, analysis and synthesis, grouping and classification, economic-statistical, comparative analysis, logical generalization. An analysis of the dynamics of change in the structure of Ukraine's economy in terms of three sectors based on indicators of gross domestic product and gross value added. The quadratic coefficient of "absolute" structural shifts of Kazynets is calculated. The main trends of sectoral changes in the economy of Ukraine during the analyzed period are clarified. Emphasis is placed on the rapid growth of the tertiary sector, mainly due to a decrease in the share of the secondary (industrial) sector. A comparative analysis of the sectoral structure of the distribution of gross value added of Ukraine by the level of gross domestic product per capita with the economies of seventy-two countries. It is emphasized that the transformations that have taken place in the sectoral structure of Ukraine's economy increase its instability and vulnerability to cyclical and other shocks. In order for sectoral changes in Ukraine's economy to be positive and ensure long-term economic growth, it is necessary to change priorities and directions of development in line with modern world trends.
