The article examines the migration intentions of the students of the Republic of Buryatia as a factor that poses a potential threat to the priority development of the region. Taking into account the sufficient degree of theoretical elaboration of the affected scientific issues, it is important to note that it remains relevant due to the observed trend of increasing migration rates from the region of students. The empirical basis of the study was the results of a sociological survey conducted by the author, in which 3,655 respondents from among the representatives of young students took part: students of grades 9‒11 of educational institutions of the Republic of Buryatia, as well as students of professional educational organizations and higher educational institutions of Ulan-Ude. Based on a descriptive analysis of the data obtained from the results of a sociological survey, the author identified the migration intentions of a wide category of representatives of the region’s student youth, which in the future may cause an increase in migration outflow, which poses a potential threat to the socio-economic development of the Republic of Buryatia; proposals were made to minimize factors contributing to the migration outflow of students from the region, having elements of scientific novelty and practical significance.
