Au nanoparticles were deposited on the surface of ZnO nanorods arrays (NRAs) by photoreduction method under different UV irradiation time. The content and size of Au nanoparticles deposited on ZnO nanorods become larger with the increase of UV irradiation time. In addition, When the UV irradiation time is 40 min, the UV emission peak and UV–visible ratio of the prepared Au surface-modified ZnO NRAs are relatively largest, and the visible emission peak of that is relatively smallest, indicating that its photoluminescence performance is relatively best. The study indicates the Au surface-modified ZnO NRAs composites are promising candidate for light emitting applications.
