Development of an Illustrated Module for Dental Health Education Enhancement in Islamic Boarding Schools

Backgrounds: Dental and oral health problems in adolescents are increasing in Indonesia, as evidenced by the highest dental health problems of 73.5%. Purpose: to develop an illustrated module on dental health education for adolescents at the Isy Karimah Imtaq Islamic Boarding School, Karanganyar Regency, Central Java. Method: The illustrated module socialization activity was held in September 2022 at Imtaq Shighor Isy Karimah, Karanganyar Regency, Central Java with 30 students as participants. Evaluation is done by giving a pre-test and post-test that has been filled out by the participant. Result: Based on the results of the evaluation, it was found that the average pre-test score was 69.2 while the post-test was 78.8, and the increase in participant knowledge was 6.9. Conclusion: students who participated in the socialization of the illustrated module experienced an increase in dental health knowledge for adolescents at the Islamic Boarding School.

Physiotherapy Counseling on Complaints of Foot Pain for the Women's Community at the Rampal Celaket Health Center

From the screening conducted at the Rampal Celaket Health Center, it was found that 5 out of 7 women present had complaints of pain in the soles of their feet or called Plantar Faciitis but their knowledge about plantar fasciitis was still minimal. To educate the women's community about exercises to relieve the pain caused by Plantar Fasciitis, particularly about the causes of pain and how to perform independent exercises at home properly to reduce complaints, counselling sessions were held. The technique involves educating the community about foot pain-relieving exercises and using posters as counselling media. The community is also given pre- and post-tests in the form of questions to gauge the efficacy of the counselling given. The evaluation showed an increase in participant knowledge from 0% to 100% because counselling worked well and was simple for participants to understand. Counseling exercises can improve participants' understanding of plantar fasciitis or foot pain.

Efficacy of Video-based Education in Improving Understanding of Pediatric Fertility Preservation.

Eighty percent of children diagnosed with cancer in childhood survive into adulthood. Fertility preservation (FP) is an important consideration, and procedures are available to reduce the risk of infertility following gonadotoxic therapies. Discussing FP options eases decision-making and minimizes regret; however, poor comprehension of these topics remains a challenge. This study evaluates if video-based educational tools increase understanding of FP options among pediatric patients and families. Videos were first tested among participants not at risk of infertility to ensure objective utility and optimize quality. In part 1, parents of pediatric surgical patients were randomized to view 2 publicly available educational videos on FP in differing orders. Each group completed pre-surveys and post-surveys assessing the comprehension and perception of video quality. In part 2, the parent and patient participants completed a comprehension assessment before and after viewing our institution-specific educational video, designed based on participant feedback from part 1. Part 1 results demonstrated a significant increase in participant knowledge and perceived understanding after viewing the videos ( P <0.001), regardless of order. In part 2, the post-test comprehension scores were significantly improved for all participants and all subgroups, P <0.01. Results suggest that video-based educational tools may help to reduce barriers to FP in pediatric oncology.

Pelatihan: Evaluasi dan Rekonstruksi Kinerja ASN Pemerintah Kota Kupang Berbasis Sumber Daya Manusia

Abstract: Purpose: The provision of community service activities aims to provide knowledge, understanding, and skills to state civil servants related to the ability to evaluate and reconstruct the performance of ASN based on human resources by organizational needs and existing conditions. Methodology/approach: Implementing activities using focus group discussions and workshops with the following stages: (1) surveys to find out partner problems, (2) needs analysis and initial questionnaire distribution using purposive sampling and quota sampling methods; (3) training and design consist of sharing information and materials, training on evaluation techniques, and training on reconstruction techniques; (4) the distribution of the final questionnaire to determine the increase in knowledge of participants' skills related to evaluation and reconstruction methods; and (5) prepare reports. Analysis of human resource-based ASN performance reconstruction using factorial analysis of SPSS vs. 25 Results/findings: The results of evaluating the performance of ASN based on human resources identified 33 dimensions of employee performance based on existing human resources. After being reconstructed into 9 dimensions of ASN performance based on human resources, namely professional, target, credible, teamwork, focus, capability, innovative, infrastructure, and perfectionist. Conclusion: The results of this training show that there is an increase in the knowledge and skills of ASN in the Kupang City Government to evaluate and reconstruct the elements of human resource-based performance appraisal and measurement that are in accordance with existing conditions and organizational needs. A qualitative analysis of an online teaching intervention to encourage favorable attitudes toward influenza vaccine among community college students

Objective: To promote influenza vaccine acceptance among community college students during the Fall 2020 semester to reduce the incidence of a “twin-demic” occurring of influenza and COVID-19. Participants: A convenience sample of 185 students enrolled in an entry level health course. Methods: Non-experimental cross-sectional design that used a self-paced, online teaching intervention. Qualitative data in the form of online discussion board posts were collected and analyzed assessing attitudes, normative references, and knowledge. Results: High rates of favorable attitudes toward influenza vaccine, evidence of subjective normative references toward science-based information, and an increase in participant knowledge. Conclusions: An online teaching intervention can be effective in changing attitudes, referencing subjective norms related to scientific information, and increasing knowledge.

Orchid is one type of ornamental flower plant that has many types spread throughout the world, including Indonesia. The original habitat of orchids is forests or areas that have high humidity, rich in organic matter. Reduction of forest area makes several types of orchids threatened with extinction so that efforts are needed for conservation and protection. Motilango pine forest tourism found several types of orchids, but the surrounding community did not know the prospect of orchid plants if they were developed properly. The purpose of the activity is to educate the local community and tourism managers to cultivate orchids to become a source of family income. The method used is discourse method and discussion. Participants consist of communities around the area, village officials and pine forest tourism managers. The material presented consisted of an introduction to the characteristics of orchids, prospects, methods of propagation and cultivation of orchids. The result of the activity is that there is an increase in participant knowledge about orchid plants. There are two types of orchids that are commonly found in the tourist area of Motilango pine, namely the dove orchid (Dendrobium crumenatum) and the ground orchid (Spathoglottis plicata) which are easily propagated by separating seedlings. Orchid growing media that is widely available in the area is coconut husk.

Pengenalan Pengelolaan Obat Rumah Tangga Melalui DAGUSIBU dan Simulasi Kotak Obat Keluarga

Management of drugs in households in the community is still high which is not appropriate in self-medication. This has the risk of having a negative impact on personal health and the environment. It is important for the public to have the correct knowledge regarding drugs. Therefore, the service team carried out service activities consisting of education and simulation of drug management in the household. This service aims to increase the knowledge and skills of the community regarding proper drug management. The method used in this service is through education (DAGUSIBU) and simulation (medicine box) in the management of household drugs. The service is carried out for the residents of Sungai Besar village, Banjar Regency, South Kalimantan. Service evaluation was carried out through filling out knowledge questionnaires and simulation observations. A total of 9 people participated in this service. The results of the evaluation using a questionnaire showed that after education and simulation there was an increase in the average knowledge of participants from 7.67 ± 1.414 to 11 ± 0 related to drug management in the household. In addition, the results of the observation evaluation showed that all participants (100%) were able to practice drug management in the household in the aspects of using, storing and disposing of drugs. By understanding and applying the correct way of managing drugs in the household, the goals of treatment can be achieved and do not cause environmental damage.

Peningkatan Keterampilan Pengolahan Pangan Sayuran Organik secara Online bagi Kelompok Rumah Sayur SKM (Suka Karya Makmur) di Desa Somongari, Kaligesing, Purworejo, Jawa Tengah

Somongari Village was an organic farming location. Perishable vegetables require special handling to increase shelf life. There was a need for training which is expected to increase the knowledge and skills of the member of Kelompok Rumah Sayur SKM (Suka Karya Makmur), increase the selling benefit, and the shelf life of organic vegetables products. The training activities were processing vegetables from agricultural products into bittermelon chips, eggplant chips, tomato sauce, and chili sauce. The training began with product processing through food processing videos demonstration and then practiced it independently. Evaluation of the results of this activity was carried out in writing, verbally, direct observation of the process, and evaluation of the food products made. The result of this training is an increase in knowledge of participants and from verbal interactions and direct observation, it could be seen that the training materials can be understood and can be practiced well by the trainees.

The COVID-19 pandemic has had a significant impact on Micro Small Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), especially laundry services in Plosokandang, Tulungagung Regency. Their primary customers, college students, no longer use their services because of online teaching and learning. The use of social media digital marketing is one solution to promote products and services. Unfortunately, many MSMEs lack this skill. This community service project focuses on training and assisting MSMEs in designing digital marketing content and posting them on their official social media. Canva software was chosen as a tool for content creation because it is simple and quick to use, with minimal design capabilities. Canva offers ready-made templates, so users only need to add their own personal touches. Then, the content is shared on the official social media accounts (Instagram or Facebook Pages). Participants’ and partners’ knowledge and skills improved after following the training. The average increase in participant knowledge of Canva material is 18.62 points, while social media material is 10.79 points. These training and mentoring activities have a positive impact on skills and knowledge related to using Canva and social media for digital marketing. Another effect of digital marketing on social media is an increase in revenue turnover, customer numbers, customer reach, and market sectors.

Edukasi Pencegahan dan Pengelolaan Hipertensi Pada Pralansia dan Lansia di Desa Padang Mancang

Hypertension is a major public health problem, especially in an aging population. However, there are still some middle age and elderly people who have unhealthy lifestyles, such as smoking, lack of physical activity and unhealthy diets. This condition may be related to the lack of knowledge about hypertension. This program was carried out using the 60-minute lecture and discussion method involving 17 participants (middle age and elderly) in Padang Mancang Village, Kaway XVI sub-district, West Aceh district in 2018. The results of providing education show that there is an increase in participant knowledge, where more participants can answer questions about hypertension that were asked after giving the material / lecture. The existence of correct knowledge about hypertension can have an impact on efforts to prevent and control hypertension that can be carried out by middle age and elderly through a healthy lifestyle.

This community service provides voter education to first-time voters in Bandar Lampung City and Lampung Selatan Regency. In December these two regencies/cities will hold a regional head election simoustanly. It is hoped that by providing voter education, the level of voters political knowledge can increase will not only understand their rights as citizens to vote but also understand the aims and objectives of the elections, understand democracy, regional head elections, and political participation so that new voters hope to become smart and politically literate voters. This service was carried out to assess the knowledge and understanding of the seminar participants using an initial evaluation by filling out an online questionnaire via google form. This method is used to determine the level of knowledge and understanding of participants about democracy, regional elections, and political participation. As well as providing seminar materials related to regional elections, political participation, and public policy. Final evaluation through discussion on issues that have not been understood related to the material presented and the increase in participant knowledge. The number of participants for the voter education service for beginners is 40 people is carried out online through the Zoom application and face-to-face physical because of the COVID-19 pandemic conditions and also because of the service location is in two places and carried out at the same time. Many participants do not know that in December, the regional elections will hold simultaneously. And there are still participants who think that voting during the elections is an obligation as a citizen, not a citizen's right. And there are always participants who do not know about the election management institutions, namely the General Election Commission and the Election Supervisory Board. In the interest to accept money politics, many new voters are interested in receiving money politics on election day. It shows that some beginner voters are willing to take money politics in the upcoming regional elections, so it is necessary to understand that money politics destroys democracy. After filling in the questionnaire, we provided materials about democracy, regional elections, political participation, and money politics. We offer the understanding to voters that the goal of democracy is to create a government that can provide prosperity to its people, and there are ways to select regional head candidates through elections, so voters must be critical to see the track records and backgrounds of local head candidates so that the correct regional head is elected. true in accordance with the aspirations of society.

An Evaluation of the Dementia Friends USA Program in Nevada: Changes in Knowledge and Behavioral Intent

Dementia Friendly Nevada (DFNV) aims to develop and promote communities in becoming more respectful, educated, supportive and inclusive of people living with dementia and their care partners. To date, six communities are engaged, representing urban, rural and tribal communities. Each community convened an action group comprised of volunteers from a range of sectors, including people living with dementia as key participants. Each group used a participatory action research process to assess community needs, develop specific goals and actions, and document community change. As part of this process, five of the six communities adopted the Dementia Friends program for community education and awareness raising. This program is licensed nationally by Dementia Friends USA. From June 2018 – September 2019, these communities achieved widespread dissemination of this program, training 68 Dementia Friends Champions (i.e., trainers), who in turn delivered 55 training sessions to 607 new Dementia Friends (i.e., completers) across Nevada. To evaluate the impact of the program, DFNV partnered with the Sanford Center for Aging to conduct a pre-post survey (n = 504) to assess program-related knowledge change as well as commitments to take action. Results showed a statistically-significant (p <.001) increase in participant knowledge, with 17% higher scores at the post-assessment. In addition, given 10 options for specific actions, responses ranged from 12% of participants committing to “start a dementia friendly effort” to 70% committing to “support dementia friendly efforts.” Overall, the early impact of this ongoing effort to educate the public about dementia across Nevada has been very successful.

Effectiveness of an End-of-Life Nursing Education Consortium Training on Registered Nurses' Educational Needs in Providing Palliative and End-of-Life Patient Care.

Registered nurses play a critical role in delivering effective palliative and end-of-life patient care. Previous literature has cited that registered nurses report a lack of adequate palliative care training in academic and continuing education programs. Providing care to patients at the end of life requires knowledge in a variety of areas such as nonpharmacologic symptom management, cultural considerations, and pain management. This study aimed to investigate the impact of a professional development intervention among registered nurses on their educational needs in providing palliative care. Using a 1-group pretest-posttest design, a convenience sample of registered nurses completed an electronic survey containing demographic questions and the End-of-Life Professional Caregiver Survey. The professional development intervention consisted of an 8-hour training conducted by a content expert on palliative patient care addressing the competencies developed by the End-of-Life Nursing Education Consortium. The results revealed a significant increase in participant knowledge in providing quality palliative care to patients (P < .001). Education programs on quality palliative and end-of-life patient care can effectively improve the care delivered to this patient population.

English in the era Industrial Revolution 4.0 became the main requirement in various sectors. Indonesia educational fields gave attention for English subject so that became a local content subject in elementary school. In providing foreign language skills to elementary school children, it needs certain methods to suit their world. Learning English for elementary school children should be suitable for their needs, such learning through play, active learning, effective learning, and fun. The aim of community service is to know the learning methods that are more preffered by the elementary school children and to provide basic knowledge on kinds of material such ‘how to introduce your self’, ‘direction’, ‘5W + 1H’. From its activities, it is found that the learning methods that is most preffered by the female elementary school children are story telling method, while games method more chosen by the male of school age children. There is an increase in knowledge of participants related to basic material ‘how to introduce your self’, ‘direction’, ‘5W + 1H’, it is proven by the results of the post test that has been done. The knowledge value of participants as many as 15 elementary school age children before learning is ± 62.80 and after the community service is ± 80.33.Keywords: Learning English, elementary school age children, learning methods

Instructional Program on Legal Aspect: Registered Nurse’s Knowledge and Attitude

Introduction: Nurse’s think it important that people’s rights should be protected and respected; they sometimes express concern at the difficulties of doing so. Objectives: Objectives of the study were to assess the level of knowledge & attitude on legal aspect, to find the effectiveness of the teaching programme and to find the association between knowledge scores and selected variables.Methodology: An evaluative study of instructional program on knowledge and attitude regarding legal aspect in health care among 53 registered nurses working in selected hospitals of Udupi district, Karnataka state. Sample were selected by non- probability purposive sampling. Data were collected by demographic proforma, knowledge questionnaire and attitude scale. Results: The result showed majority of them i.e.39 (73.6%) had no in-service education on legal aspects in health care. In the pre test most of the participant i.e.32 out of 53 (60.4%) had poor knowledge whereas in the post test 10 (18.9%) had poor knowledge. Hence a reinforcement class was given where none of them had poor knowledge. There was significant difference between the median of pre test and post test knowledge scores of staff nurses (11, 14) (Z value=-5.891, ‘p’ value= 0.0001). Hence it is inferred that the instructional program on legal aspect in health care was effective in improving the knowledge of the staff nurses. All the participants had favourable attitude in the both pre test and post test. There was no significant association between pre test knowledge and selected variables. Conclusion: The study showed significant increase in knowledge of participants after the instruc-tional program. There is great need in service education on legal aspect among registered nurses in health care sector.

Change in Knowledge of Kindergarten Employees Participating in the Course “Diet full of life” in the Field of Children’s Nutrition, as Assessed by Generalized Estimating Equations

Abstract Nutrition is one of the most important environmental factors affecting the physical development and health of children. Education in this area and the development of proper eating habits are priorities. A prerequisite for the proper nutrition of preschool children is knowledge of proper nutrition of people working there. The aim of this study was an evaluation of the knowledge of kindergarten employees participating in the course “Diet full of life – courses in the field of children’s nutrition”. The study included 90 employees of nurseries and kindergartens, participants of the course in the field of children’s nutrition. The research tool was an original questionnaire. Study I (pre-test) was performed before the beginning of the course, while study II (post-test) was performed after its completion. Generalized Linear Models with a Generalized Estimating Equations extension was used to estimate the impact of the number of covariates on knowledge of course participants, taking into consideration the correlation between before- and after-course results. An increase in the knowledge of the participants of the investigated course on children’s nutritional standards was significant and reached 2.053 points on average. No relationship between age, job position, and knowledge level was determined. In the area of principles of proper nutrition for children, older participants had a lower level of knowledge compared to younger ones, and participants with higher education showed a significantly higher knowledge increase as compared to those with vocational education. A significant knowledge increase in the field of dietary behaviors of children was obtained during the course by all examined women, 1.6 points on average (p &lt; 0.001). Younger participants obtained significantly more knowledge from the course than older ones (p &lt; 0.001). Thus, it can be concluded that realization of the course entitled “Diet full of life” specifically relating to young children’s nutrition affected a significant increase in participant knowledge, particularly among the younger age groups and people with higher education. Kindergarten employees need constant supplemental education in the form of training courses, during which they acquire actual knowledge given in an accessible manner for use in practice. The proper assessment of the supplemental education course presented herein, as well as of the course participants, was performed using General Estimating Equations.

Reproductive health peer education for multicultural target groups

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to study the characteristics of the participants and the success of the recruitment methods and increase in knowledge of participants in reproductive health peer education. Dutch perinatal mortality rates are relatively high compared to other European countries. Non-Western ethnic minorities show particularly adverse outcomes. They seem to have low health literacy and less access to health care. Design/methodology/approach – These groups were specifically targeted, and reproductive health education covering the full spectrum of obstetric care was developed, led by specifically trained female peer educators coming from the targeted communities. Findings – “Active” recruitment methods were the most successful methods; 1,896 women and 275 men were recruited and participated in the intervention. Sixty-five per cent of the total female participants had a first-generation immigrant background. Significant knowledge improvements were found on all five measurements of reproductive behaviour and antenatal and postnatal health care system knowledge (24 per cent average knowledge increase in already knowledgeable participant group and 46 per cent in the not knowledgeable group). Active interpersonal recruitment methods were most successful in reaching the target groups. Peer education resulted in knowledge increase in these groups. Practical implications – Invest in training of educators for peer education reproductive health. Organize recruitment by verbal advertising by community organizations and social networks of peer educators. Originality/value – To the authors’ knowledge, no studies have been conducted combining investigation of the results of specific recruitment methods, the characteristics of reached participants in a multi-ethnic population and their increase in knowledge about reproductive health and care.

Background and aims: The 2009 influenza A (H1N1) pandemic caused surges in numbers of critically ill patients worldwide. The Ministries of Health of several countries requested clinical guidance from World Health Organization (WHO). Aims: Development and delivery of a training course in the clinical management of adult and paediatric patients critically ill with acute respiratory and severe sepsis syndromes for use in resource-limited settings. The course targets non-specialist clinicians, emphasizing evidence-based guidance. Methods: WHO sponsored course development, piloting (2009–2013) and implementation (2013), including translation of materials International clinical experts (33), aided by professional instructional designers, contributed or reviewed the course content. Results: The 3-day course has 14 sequential learning units: early recognition, pathophysiology, oxygen therapy, influenza diagnostic testing, infection prevention and control, targeted resuscitation of septic shock, antimicrobial therapy, monitoring, lung protective ventilation, targeted sedation, liberation from mechanical ventilation, preventive care, quality improvement, ethics. Teaching materials include lectures; small-group role-play sessions, and a toolkit with protocols and checklists http://influenzatraining.org/en/). The pilot courses in Trinidad, Tobago, Indonesia, and Vietnam, showed an increase in participant knowledge (20% improvement in test scores) and they rated the content highly. The course has subsequently been sponsored in China, Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan and Tajikistan with similar improvement in local knowledge and course rating. Conclusions: It was feasible to create and deliver a course on the management of critical illness syndromes to non-specialty clinicians working in resource-limited settings. Success depended on collaboration between WHO, clinical experts, instructional designers, Ministries of Health, and local clinician leaders. Despite sustainability challenges, this course may help to strengthen low-resource healthcare systems.

Building Cultural Competence in the Child Welfare Workforce: A Mixed-Methods Analysis

Cultural competence training has been suggested as one way to help address the over-representation of children of color in the child welfare system. This article describes findings from a mixed-methods study of specialized training in cultural competence knowledge, attitudes, and skills for experienced caseworkers in public child welfare. Results indicate training participants had statistically significant increases in knowledge across all topic areas related to cultural competence. Of particular note is the increase in participant knowledge of the Indian Child Welfare Act (ICWA) and related changes in working with families and individuals.
