Enhanced polyacrylamide polymer hydrogels using nanomaterials for water shutoff: Morphology, thermal and rheological investigations at high temperatures and salinity

This study focuses on the synthesis, characterization, and performance evaluation of polyacrylamide (PAM)/polyethyleneimine (PEI) hydrogels enhanced with nanomaterials for potential application in conformance control in oil wells. The materials used include PAM with a molar mass of 25,000 Kg mol−1, PEI with an average weight molar mass of 25 Kg mol−1, and synthetic brine (ionic strength 0.6). Nanomaterials such as titanium dioxide (TiO2) nanoparticles, oxidized carbon nanotubes (CNT-ox), and graphene oxide (GO) were incorporated into the hydrogel matrix. A simple method was used for the incorporation of nanomaterials into the polymeric matrix, ensuring their good dispersion in the hydrogels formed. Characterization techniques including thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) were employed to analyze the structure, morphology, and thermal stability of the hydrogels. Rheological measurements and gel strength evaluations were conducted to assess the performance of the hydrogels. Results indicate that the incorporation of nanomaterials enhanced the thermal stability, gel strength (Sydansk code), and resistance to syneresis of the hydrogels. Specifically, the addition of TiO2 nanoparticles exhibited the highest improvement in viscosity and thermal stability, attributed to strong interactions between TiO2 and PAM molecules. A notable decrease in syneresis percentages was observed with the inclusion of nanomaterials compared to the PAM reference sample, reaching 70.1 % for the hydrogel modified with GO. These findings suggest that nanomaterial-enhanced hydrogels hold promise for applications in conformance control in oil wells, offering improved stability and performance over extended periods of use.

Additive manufacturing, particularly Stereolithography (SLA), has gained widespread attention thanks to its ability to produce intricate parts with high precision and customization capacity. Nevertheless, the inherent low mechanical properties of SLA-printed parts limit their use in high-value applications. One approach to enhance these properties involves the incorporation of nanomaterials, with graphene oxide (GO) being a widely studied option. However, the characterization of SLA-printed GO nanocomposites under various stress loadings remains underexplored in the literature, despite being essential for evaluating their mechanical performance in applications. This study aimed to address this gap by synthesizing GO and incorporating it into a commercial SLA resin at different concentrations (0.2, 0.5, and 1 wt.%). Printed specimens were subjected to pure tension, combined stresses, and pure shear stress modes for comprehensive mechanical characterization. Additionally, failure criteria were provided using the Drucker--Prager model.

This review paper provides a thorough examination of the progress made in optical and electrochemical biosensors for detecting the cancer biomarker CA 15-3. We focus on explaining their fundamental principles, sensitivity, specificity, and potential for point-of-care applications. The performance attributes of these biosensors are assessed by considering their limits of detection, reaction times, and operational stability, while also making comparisons to conventional methods of CA 15-3 detection. In addition, we explore the incorporation of nanomaterials and innovative transducer components to improve the performance of biosensors. This paper conducts a thorough examination of recent studies to identify the existing obstacles. Synthesis and Characterization of Superhydrophobic Epoxy Resin Coating with SiO2@CuO/HDTMS for Enhanced Self-Cleaning, Photocatalytic, and Corrosion-Resistant Properties.

The exceptional corrosion resistance and combined physical and chemical self-cleaning capabilities of superhydrophobic photocatalytic coatings have sparked significant interest among researchers. In this paper, we propose an economical and eco-friendly superhydrophobic epoxy resin coating that incorporates SiO2@CuO/HDTMS nanoparticles modified with Hexadecyltrimethoxysilane (HDTMS). The application of superhydrophobic coatings effectively reduces the contact area between the metal surface and corrosive media, leading to a decreased corrosion rate. Additionally, the incorporation of nanomaterials, exemplified by SiO2@CuO core-shell nanoparticles, improves the adhesion and durability of the coatings on aluminum alloy substrates. Experimental data from Tafel curve analysis and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) confirm the superior corrosion resistance of the superhydrophobic modified aluminum alloy surface compared to untreated surfaces. Estimations indicate a significant reduction in corrosion rate after superhydrophobic treatment. Furthermore, an optical absorption spectra analysis of the core-shell nanoparticles demonstrates their suitability for photocatalytic applications, showcasing their potential contribution to enhancing the overall performance of the coated surfaces. Innovations in nanomaterial-embedded polymer membranes for water and wastewater treatment: a comprehensive review

Abstract There has been growing interest in advancing nanoparticle-embedded polymeric membranes and their significant utilization in wastewater treatment to address the global water pollution problem. Incorporation of nanomaterials into the membrane matrices not only enhances the physicochemical properties like hydrophilicity, mechanical and thermal stability, porosity, antifouling, and antibacterial properties of the polymers but also influences the membrane permeability, selectivity, and several contaminant removals. This overview highlighted the development of nanomaterials like metal/metal oxide nanoparticles (0D), carbon nanotubes (1D), graphene or graphene oxide (GO) (2D layer materials), zwitterionic, zeolites, and associated structures (3D) blended with significant polymeric materials, along with synthesis and integration techniques for fabricating mixed-matrix nanoparticle-embedded polymer nanocomposite (PNC) membranes. This article also addresses the limitations of conventional water treatment technologies, recent challenges of polymer membrane technology, environmental impact, human considerations, and the prospects of these advanced nanoparticle-embedded polymer membranes for sustainable water and wastewater treatment. The motivation for future research in polymeric materials with embedded nanoparticles and the prediction of novel membranes for water purification will also be provided.

Enhancing physico-mechanical properties and thermal stability of geopolymer composites through nano-material incorporation

Influence of various types of nano powder on the physico-mechanical properties of geopolymer materials has been studied, in addition to studying their firing stability up to 1000 °C. Alumino–silicate materials used are kaolin, fired kaolin and lime stone. Materials prepared at water/binder ratios of 0.40; whereas the used equal volume of activator 5 M sodium hydroxide with liquid sodium silicate. Nano-kaolin admixed with Nano-powder as a partial replacement from metakaolin material. The control mixes incorporating either 7% Nano-glass or 5% Nano-silica fume. Nano-kaolin was partially replaced Nano-glass powder and Nano-silica fume. It is possible to use the mixes containing limestone and nano materials to solve the problem of using heat curing, thermal energy consumption and pollution by reducing the MK used for MK-geopolymer cement. Results indicated an enhancement in the physico-mechanical properties of mix incorporating 1: 6% and 2:3% of NK:N-glass and NK:N-silica fume, respectively. Firing of hardened geopolymer resulted in high thermal resistance up to 700 °C then exposed to decrease up to 1000 °C. However, no micro-cracks were noticed up to 800 °C for all samples as recorded by visual examination of the fired samples, while micro-cracks were recorded for hardened composites at 1000 °C.Graphical

Silver vanadate nanomaterial incorporated into heat-cured resin and coating in printed resin - Antimicrobial activity in two multi-species biofilms and wettability

ObjectivesTo incorporate the nanostructured silver vanadate decorated with silver nanoparticles (AgVO3) into denture base materials: heat-cured (HC) and 3D printed (3DP) resins, at concentrations of 2.5 %, 5 %, and 10 %; and to evaluate the antimicrobial activity in two multi-species biofilm: (1) Candida albicans, Candida glabrata, and Streptococcus mutans, (2) Candida albicans, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Staphylococcus aureus, and the wettability. MethodsThe AgVO3 was added to the HC powder, and printed samples were coated with 3DP with AgVO3 incorporated. After biofilm formation, the antimicrobial activity was evaluated by colony forming units per milliliter (CFU/mL), metabolic activity, and epifluorescence microscopy. Wettability was assessed by the contact angles with water and artificial saliva. ResultsIn biofilm (1), HC-5 % and HC-10 % showed activity against S. mutans, HC-10 % against C. glabrata, and HC-10 % and 3DP-10 % had higher CFU/mL of C. albicans. 3DP-5 % had lower metabolic activity than the 3DP control. In biofilm (2), HC-10 % reduced S. aureus and P. aeruginosa, and HC-5 %, 3DP-2.5 %, and 3DP-5 % reduced S. aureus. 3DP incorporated with AgVO3, HC-5 %, and HC-10 % reduced biofilm (2) metabolic activity. 3DP-5 % and 3DP-10 % increased wettability with water and saliva. ConclusionHC-10 % was effective against C. glabrata, S. mutans, P. aeruginosa, and S. aureus, and HC-5 % reduced S. mutans and S. aureus. For 3DP, 2.5 % and 5 % reduced S. aureus. The incorporation of AgVO3 into both resins reduced the metabolic activity of biofilms but had no effect on C. albicans. The wettability of the 3DP with water and saliva increased with the addition of AgVO3. Clinical SignificanceThe incorporation of silver vanadate into the denture base materials provides antimicrobial efficacy and can prevent the aggravation of oral and systemic diseases. The incorporation of nanomaterials into printed resins is challenging and the coating is an alternative to obtain the inner denture base with antimicrobial effect.

INVESTIGATION ON ENHANCED CONCRETE PERFORMANCE THROUGH THE INCORPORATION OF NANOMATERIALS AND NATURAL FIBERS

This study delves into the realm of M70, high-performance concrete (HPC) with a focus on enhancing its mechanical and sustainable properties through the incorporation of nanomaterials, specifically nanosilica, and organic composites derived from abaca fibers. HPC is pivotal in contemporary construction for its superior durability, strength, and resistance to environmental factors. The integration of nanosilica aims to refine the microstructure of the concrete at the nanoscale, enhancing its strength and durability. Simultaneously, the introduction of organic composites from abaca fibers seeks to impart eco-friendly characteristics to the concrete mix, addressing sustainability concerns. The research methodology involves systematically varying the proportions of nanosilica (0%, 0.5%, 1.0%, 1.5%) as a partial replacement for cement in the concrete and additionally, abaca fibers (0%, 0.25% and 0.5%) were used to enrich the durability. Mechanical testing will be conducted to assess the impact of these additives on the concrete’s structural performance, while durability testing will focus on resistance to environmental factors such as moisture and chemical exposure. The outcomes of this study enriching the concrete performance and optimization of high-performance concrete (1% of nanosilica and 0.25% of abaca fiber) is the superior quality compared to all other mixes.

Nanomaterials applications in solar energy: Exploring future prospects and challenges

Most recently, nanofluids have gained interest for industrial use, especially in renewable energy. Since carbon-intensive fuels are depleting and environmental concerns are growing, experts are researching solar energy. This comprehensive review article focuses on ability of nanomaterials for improving the operational efficiency, lowering costs, and overcoming technological gaps in solar energy systems. Nanofluids' benefits and limitations are examined in this current review paper. The results suggest that the enhancement of device functionality is substantially achieved through the incorporation of nanomaterials into solar systems. Nanomaterials like graphene may be more efficient than ordinary solar cells. Nanomaterials help create thinner, more flexible, and more efficient solar panels, according to the review. Nanoparticles have been used to create solar cells with 25% efficiency, a significant improvement. The paper concludes with the discussion of the future research scope, emphasising the need for sustainable nanomaterial production, ecological and health concerns, and economic implications of nanomaterial-based solar energy technologies. The viability of nanomaterials with another renewable energy technologies for creating hybrid systems for improvement in the energy storage and generation needs further study.

Sweet cherry tree (Prunus avium) exudate gum-based film modification in a photoreactor: Effects of hydrogen peroxide oxidation, UV irradiation, and TiO2 nanoparticles

The fabrication possibility of nanocomposite film from sweet cherry tree exudate gum (SCG) was studied. To improve SCG film properties, oxidation with hydrogen peroxide, ultraviolet irradiation (UV-A and UV-C), and TiO2 nanoparticles (T-NPs) were used. Hydrogen peroxide oxidation at higher amounts decreased the water vapor permeability (WVP) and thickness and increased the mechanical properties and transparency. In comparison with the UV-A, UV irradiation of the C-type increased permeability, and elongation at break (EAB) and thickness, but reduced the tensile strength (TS), solubility, and transparency. The permeability and tensile strength were increased and elongation at break was decreased at a longer time of irradiation. The transparency values of fabricated films ranged from 65.3 to 79.5 % and WVP were in the range of 2.32–4.72 (×10−10 g/m.s.Pa). The measured TS of the SCG films were between 2.2 and 5 MPa and the EAB of the SCG films was between 35 and 68.7 %. The FTIR spectrum and SEM images revealed that the treatments could affect the bonds and the smoothness of the film surface, respectively. Images provided by AFM showed that the roughness of the films was increased by the addition of T-NPs. The incorporation of T-NPs increased the TS and decreased EAB and WVP. These results indicated that oxidation, UV irradiation and nanomaterials incorporation could be used to improve SCG film properties that are related to food packaging material.

Ultrasensitive Aptasensing Platform for the Detection of β-Amyloid-42 Peptide Based on MOF Containing Bimetallic Porphyrin Graphene Oxide and Gold Nanoparticles.

The prompt detection of diseases hinges on the accessibility and the capability to identify relevant biomarkers. The integration of aptamers and the incorporation of nanomaterials into signal transducers have not only expedited but also enhanced the development of nanoaptasensors, enabling heightened sensitivity and selectivity. Here, the bimetallic nickel-cobalt-porphyrin metal-organic framework ((Ni + Cu)TPyP MOF) is regarded as an electron mediator, immobilization platform for an Alzheimer aptamer and to increase the electrochemical signal for the detection of the main biomarker of Alzheimer's disease (AD), amyloid β (Aβ-42). Furthermore, the ((Ni + Cu)TPyP MOF) was combined with reduced graphene oxide (rGO) and gold nanoparticles (AuNPs), on a gold electrode (GE) to provide an efficient interface for immobilizing aptamer strands. Concurrently, the incorporation of rGO and AuNPs imparts enhanced electrical conductivity and efficacious catalytic activity, establishing them as adept electrochemical indicators. Owing to the superior excellent electrical conductivity of rGO and AuNPs, coupled with the presence of ample mesoporous channels and numerous Ni and Cu metal sites within (Ni + Cu)TPyP MOF, this nanostructure with abundant functional groups is proficient in immobilizing a substantial quantity of aptamer. These interactions are achieved through robust π-π stacking and electrostatic interactions, alongside the high affinity between the thiol group of the aptamer and AuNPs concurrently. The as-prepared ternary (Au@(Ni + Cu)TPyP MOF/rGO) nanostructure electrode exhibited an enhancement in its electrochemically active surface area of about 7 times, compared with the bare electrode and the Aβ-42 redox process is highly accelerated, so the peak currents are significantly higher than those obtained with bare GE substrate. Under the optimized conditions, the designed aptasensor had the quantitative detection of Aβ-42 with a low detection limit of 48.6 fg mL-1 within the linear range of 0.05 pg mL-1 to 5 ng mL-1 by differential pulse voltammetry (DPV), accompanied by precise reproducibility, satisfactory stability (95.6% of the initial activity after 10 days), and minimal impact of interfering agents. Recorded results in human blood plasma demonstrated the high efficacy of porphyrin MOF system sensing even in the clinical matrix. The great performance of this aptasensor indicates that our new design of Au@(Ni + Cu)TPyP MOF/rGO nanostructure provides more opportunities for the detection of chemical signals in early diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease.

Interferon gamma (IFN-γ)-sensitive TB aptasensor based on novel chitosan-indium nano-kesterite (χtCITS)-labeled DNA aptamer hairpin technology

There has been increasing interest in the use of biosensors for diagnosis of infectious diseases such as tuberculosis (TB) due to their simplicity, affordability, and potential for point-of-care application. The incorporation of aptamer molecules and nanomaterials in biosensor fabrication explores the advantages of high-binding affinity and low immunogenicity of aptamers as well as the high surface-to-volume ratio of nanomaterials, for increased aptasensor performance. In this work, we employed a novel microwave-synthesized copper indium tin sulfide (CITS) substituted-kesterite nanomaterial, together with a natural biopolymer (chitosan), for signal amplification and increased loading of aptamer molecules. Study of the optical properties of CITS nanomaterials showed strong absorption in the UV region characteristic of kesterite semiconductor nanomaterials. X-ray diffraction analysis confirmed the presence of the kesterite phase with average crystallite size of 6.188 nm. Fabrication of interferon-gamma (IFN-γ) TB aptasensor with a chitosan-CITS nanocomposite (χtCITS) increased the aptasensor's electrochemical properties by 77.5 % and improved aptamer loading by 73.7 %. The aptasensor showed excellent sensitivity to IFN-γ concentrations with limit of detection of 6885 fg/mL (405 fM) and linear range of 850–17000 fg/mL (50 – 1000 fM). The aptasensor also exhibited excellent storage and electrochemical stability, with good selectivity towards IFN-γ and possible real sample application.

Incorporation of Graphene Nanoplatelets into Fiber-Reinforced Polymer Composites in the Presence of Highly Branched Waterborne Polyurethanes.

Enhancing interfacial interactions in fiber-reinforced polymer composites (FRPCs) is crucial for improving their mechanical properties. This can be achieved through the incorporation of nanomaterials or chemically functional agents into FRPCs. This study reports the tailoring of the fiber-matrix interface in FRPCs using non-functionalized graphene nanoplatelets (GNPs) in combination with a waterborne, highly branched, multi-functional polyurethane dispersion (HBPUD). A unique ultrasonic spray deposition technique was utilized to deposit aqueous mixtures of GNP/HBPUDs onto the surfaces of carbon fiber fabrics, which were used to prepare epoxy-prepreg sheets and corresponding FRPC laminates. The influence of the polyurethane (PU) and GNP content and their ratio at the fiber-matrix interface on the tensile properties of resulting high-performance composites was systematically investigated using stress-strain analysis of the produced FRPC plates and SEM analysis of their fractured surfaces. A synergistic stiffening and toughening effect was observed when as low as 20 to 30 mg of GNPs was deposited per square meter of each side of the carbon fiber fabrics in the presence of the multi-functional PU layer. This resulted in a significant improvement in the tensile strength from 908 to 1022 MPa, while maintaining or slightly improving the initial Young's modulus from approximately 63 to 66 MPa.

Recent Advances in Polymer Nanocomposites: Unveiling the Frontier of Shape Memory and Self-Healing Properties-A Comprehensive Review.

Shape memory and self-healing polymer nanocomposites have attracted considerable attention due to their modifiable properties and promising applications. The incorporation of nanomaterials (polypyrrole, carboxyl methyl cellulose, carbon nanotubes, titania nanotubes, graphene, graphene oxide, mesoporous silica) into these polymers has significantly enhanced their performance, opening up new avenues for diverse applications. The self-healing capability in polymer nanocomposites depends on several factors, including heat, quadruple hydrogen bonding, π-π stacking, Diels-Alder reactions, and metal-ligand coordination, which collectively govern the interactions within the composite materials. Among possible interactions, only quadruple hydrogen bonding between composite constituents has been shown to be effective in facilitating self-healing at approximately room temperature. Conversely, thermo-responsive self-healing and shape memory polymer nanocomposites require elevated temperatures to initiate the healing and recovery processes. Thermo-responsive (TRSMPs), light-actuated, magnetically actuated, and Electrically actuated Shape Memory Polymer Nanocomposite are discussed. This paper provides a comprehensive overview of the different types of interactions involved in SMP and SHP nanocomposites and examines their behavior at both room temperature and elevated temperature conditions, along with their biomedical applications. Among many applications of SMPs, special attention has been given to biomedical (drug delivery, orthodontics, tissue engineering, orthopedics, endovascular surgery), aerospace (hinges, space deployable structures, morphing aircrafts), textile (breathable fabrics, reinforced fabrics, self-healing electromagnetic interference shielding fabrics), sensor, electrical (triboelectric nanogenerators, information energy storage devices), electronic, paint and self-healing coating, and construction material (polymer cement composites) applications.

An overview on metal oxide incorporated bionanocomposites and their potential applications

Bionanocomposites - nanocomposites with a polymer of biological origin and one or more fillers - are an important class of materials that has gained the attention of researchers over the last few decades. Combining biopolymer with nano fillers improves strength and permeability and prevents nanofiller from corrosion. Different methods, such as in-situ polymerization, melt intercalation, template synthesis, solution intercalation are employed for the incorporation of nanomaterials (either 1D, 2D or 3D) to the biopolymer matrix. The properties of bionanocomposites depend highly on the nanoparticles that have been incorporated to make them suitable for a wide variety of applications. Both polymers and metal oxide nanoparticles have proved to be good candidates in applications such as antimicrobial, food packaging, automotive pharmaceutical, drug delivery etc. Inserting metal oxide nanoparticles to biopolymer matrices improves their permeability, mechanical strength, elasticity and thermal stability and increases their potentiality. Herein, the different bionanocomposites containing oxides of metals such as Ni, Zn, Al, Mg, Cu, Ti along with their applications are being discussed.

Predicting the properties of concrete incorporating graphene nano platelets by experimental and machine learning approaches

Modern infrastructure requirements necessitate structural components with improved durability and strength properties. The incorporation of nanomaterials (NMs) into concrete emerges as a viable strategy to enhance both the durability and strength of the concrete. Nevertheless, the complexities inherent in these nanoscale cementitious composites are notably intricate. Traditional regression models face constraints in comprehensively capturing these intricate compositions. Thus, posing challenges in delivering precise and dependable estimations. Therefore, the current study utilized three machine learning (ML) methods, including artificial neural network (ANN), gene expression programming (GEP), and adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system (ANFIS), in conjunction with experimental investigation to study the effect of the integration of graphene nanoplatelets (GNPs) on the electrical resistivity (ER) and compressive strength (CS) of concrete containing GNPs. Concrete containing GNPs demonstrated an improved fractional change in resistivity (FCR) and strength. The experimental measures depict that strength enhancement was notable at GNP concentrations of 0.05% and 0.1%, showcasing increases of 13.23% and 16.58%, respectively. Simultaneously, the highest observed FCR change reached −12.19% and −13%, respectively. The prediction efficacy of the three models proved to be outstanding in forecasting the characteristics of concrete containing GNPs. For CS, the GEP, ANN, and ANFIS models demonstrated impressive correlation coefficient (R) values of 0.974, 0.963, and 0.954, respectively. For electrical resistivity, the GEP, ANN, and ANFIS models exhibited high R-values of 0.999, 0.995, and 0.987, respectively. The comparative analysis of the models revealed that the GEP model delivered precise predictions for both ER and CS. The mean absolute error (MAE) of the GEP-CS model demonstrated a 14.51% reduction compared to the ANN-CS model and a substantial 48.15% improvement over the ANFIS-CS model. Similarly, the ANN-CS model displayed an MAE that was 38.14% lower compared to the ANFIS-CS model. Moreover, the MAE of the GEP-ER model demonstrated a 56.80% reduction compared to the ANN-CS model and a substantial 82.47% improvement over the ANFIS-CS model. The Shapley Additive explanation (SHAP) analysis provided that curing age exhibited the highest SHAP score. Thus, indicating its predominant contribution to CS prediction. In predicting ER, the graphene content exhibited the highest SHAP score, signifying its predominant contribution to ER estimation. This study highlights ML's accuracy in predicting the properties of concrete with graphene nanoplatelets, offering a fast and cost-effective alternative to time-consuming experiments.

Impact of nano-dopants on the mechanical and physical properties of magnesium oxychloride cement composites – Experimental assessment

The importance of the reduction of the World's CO2 emissions due to their non-negligible contribution to climate change is inevitable. As the Portland cement (PC) industry is one of the main contributors to the overall volume of CO2 emissions produced over the World, a sustainable PC substitute must be implemented. Previous scientific studies suggest that magnesium oxychloride cement (MOC) – an eco-friendly binder based on reactive magnesia – could be a suitable alternative. This contribution studies the influence of various nano-dopants on the mechanical and physical properties of MOC-based composites. The nano-dopants introduced to the MOC composite were the following: multi-walled carbon nanotubes, oxidized multi-walled carbon nanotubes, graphene oxide, graphene nanoplatelets, and alumina nanosheets. Ahead of the composite preparation, the nano-dopants were analysed with a wide spectrum of analytical methods to study their composition and microstructure in detail. The used amount of nano-dopant was 1.0 wt%, relative to the cement paste weight. After a curing period of 28 days, the prepared composite samples underwent a comprehensive analysis of their microstructure, phase, and chemical composition, as well as micro- and macrostructural parameters and mechanical properties. Additionally, the research studied the effects of nano-dopants on the hygric properties and water resistance of the MOC composites after 24-h immersion in water. The findings revealed a noteworthy increase in mechanical parameters with the addition of nano-dopants. The highest compressive strength of 85.4 MPa was obtained for the MOC composite enriched with the addition of oxidized multi-walled carbon nanotubes. MOC doped with alumina nanosheets exhibited the highest value in flexural strength (20.99 MPa) and dynamic modulus of elasticity (38.85 GPa) measurements. The resistance of MOC composites to deterioration in water was also improved by all the implemented nano-dopants. The softening coefficient determined for samples immersed in water for 24 h varied from 62.7 to 74.8%. The best resistance to water degradation was obtained for MOC with alumina nanosheets, which showed a softening coefficient value about 23.2% higher than that of the reference sample. Thus, the incorporation of nanomaterials as functional nano-dopants in MOC-based composites shows promising opportunities in the improvement of both mechanical properties and water resistance, contributing to the development of environmentally sustainable building materials.

Epoxy-based multifunctional solid polymer electrolytes for structural batteries and supercapacitors. a short review.

The potential applications of epoxy-based solid polymer electrolytes are continually expanding because of their versatile characteristics. These characteristics include mechanical rigidity, nonvolatility, nonflammability, and electrochemical stability. However, it is worth noting that pure epoxy-based solid polymer electrolytes inherently exhibit lower ion transport capabilities when compared to traditional liquid electrolytes. Striking a balance between high mechanical integrity and superior ionic conductivity at room temperature poses a significant challenge. In light of this challenge, this review is dedicated to elucidating the fundamental concepts of epoxy-based solid polymer electrolytes. It will explore various preparation techniques, the incorporation of different nanomaterials into epoxy-based solid polymer electrolytes, and an evaluation of their multifunctional properties. This comprehensive evaluation will cover both mechanical and electrical properties with a specific focus on their potential applications in batteries and structural supercapacitors.
