Spatial distribution of inadequate meal frequency and its associated factors among children aged 6-23 months in Ethiopia: Multilevel and spatial analysis.

More than two-third of global child death is occurred due to inappropriate feeding practice that happened during early childhood period. Evidence on meal frequency status among infant and young children at national level can be used to design appropriate interventions to improve the recommended feeding frequency. Therefore, this study was aimed to explore the spatial distribution and identify associated factors of inadequate meal frequency among children aged 6-23 months in Ethiopia. Secondary data analysis was conducted using the 2019 mini Ethiopian Demographic and Health Survey data. A total weighted sample of 1,532 children aged 6-23 months were included. To identify significant factors associated with of inadequate meal frequency, multilevel binary logistic regression model was fitted. Variables with p-value < 0.25 from the bi-variable model were exported to multivariable analysis. In the multivariable model, variables with p-value < 0.05 were declared as significantly associated factors and adjusted odds ratio (AOR) with its 95% confidence interval were reported. Multilevel models were compared using deviance and log-likelihood. Spatial analysis tools were utilized to visualize the distribution of inadequate meal frequency. Bernoulli model was fitted using SaTScan V.9.6 to identify most likely clusters and ArcGIS V.10.8 was used to map the hotspot areas. Ordinary least square and geographic weighted regression models were used and compared using information criteria and adjusted-R2. Local coefficients of factors associated with hotspots of inadequate meal frequency were mapped. The prevalence of inadequate meal frequency was 47.03% (95% CI: 44.54%, 49.53%) in Ethiopia. Age of the child, sex of the household head, timely initiation of breastfeeding, current breastfeeding status, number of antenatal care visit, maternal education, and region were significantly associated with inadequate meal frequency. The spatial distribution of inadequate meal frequency was showed significant variation across Ethiopia (Global Moran's I = 0.164, p-value <0.001). A total of 38 significant clusters were detected through SaTScan analysis, from these the 22 primary clusters were located in Somali and Harari. The prevalence of inadequate meal frequency was high in Ethiopia and had significant clustering patter. Significant hotspot clusters were located in Somali, northern Afar, Harari, Amhara, Gambela, and eastern South nation nationalities and peoples' region. Therefore, public health interventions which enhance breastfeeding practice, optimal number of antenatal care visits, educational empowerments should target hotspot areas to decrease inadequate meal frequency practice.

The Relationship of Mother's Nutritional Knowledge and the Practice of Giving Complete ASI Food (MP-ASI) To Toddler Age 6-12 Months at Bpm Ernah South Cimahi Coffee Garden

Malnutrition in children can be caused by the mother's attitude or behavior in inappropriate feeding practices. This occurs because mothers' knowledge and skills regarding food, nutrition and practices in feeding children are still low. This study aims to determine the relationship between maternal nutritional knowledge and the practice of giving MP-ASI to toddlers aged 6-12 months at BPM Ernah Kebon Kopi Cimahi. The type of research is descriptive analytic with a cross sectional approach, sampling using proportional sampling. The research sample was 69 mothers who had toddlers aged 6-12 months. Data on maternal nutritional knowledge and practice of providing MP-ASI were obtained by interview using a questionnaire that had been tested for validity and reliability. Analysis of the relationship between the independent variable and the dependent variable using Chi Square. The level of nutritional knowledge of respondents was high at 46 people (66.7%) and the practice of providing MP-ASI was carried out well by 41 people (59.4%). The research results showed that there was a relationship between maternal nutritional knowledge and the practice of providing MP-ASI (p&lt;0.05). It is hoped that PBM Ernah Kebon Kopi Cimahi will be more active in providing information through outreach and counseling to cadres and the community, especially mothers with toddlers, about improving nutrition and skills in the practice of providing MP-ASI.

Empowering parents to optimize feeding practices with preschool children (EPO-Feeding): A study protocol for a feasibility randomized controlled trial.

Parental feeding practices (PFPs) play a key role in fostering preschoolers' dietary habits and in mitigating the risk of childhood obesity. Nevertheless, parents often employ inappropriate feeding practices, leading to children's potential nutrition-related issues. Thus, research is needed to inform interventions that focus on optimizing feeding practices. This protocol describes the evaluation of a novel intervention-Empowering Parents to Optimize Feeding Practices (EPO-Feeding Program). The program will be evaluated with a two-arm feasibility randomized controlled trial (RCT) in Yangzhou, China. The program includes four weekly group-based training sessions led by healthcare professionals for parents of preschool children. The intervention incorporates sessions, group discussions, motivational interviewing, and supplementary materials (e.g., key messages and educational videos) aimed at enhancing parents' knowledge, skills, and behaviours related to feeding practices. The primary outcomes include i) implementation feasibility, primarily assessed through retention rates; and ii) program acceptability through a survey and qualitative process evaluation. Secondary outcomes encompass the potential impacts on i) PFPs, ii) parental perception of child weight (PPCW), iii) parenting sense of competence, iv) children's eating behaviours, and v) child weight status. Quantitative analyses include descriptive estimates for evaluating the feasibility and linear mixed regression analysis for testing the potential effects. Qualitative valuation will use thematic framework analysis. If this study shows this program to be feasible to implement and acceptable to parents, it will be used to inform a fully powered trial to determine its effectiveness. The research will also help inform policy and practices in the context of child nutrition promotion, particularly regarding implementing group-based training sessions by healthcare providers in similar settings. Maternal Feeding Practices of Children One to Three Years in Collins Chabane Municipality of South Africa

ABSTRACT The aim was to assess maternal feeding practices of children one to three years. A descriptive observational design was employed. The sample consisted of mothers-child dyads. A validated structured questionnaire was used. Data was analyzed using SPSS version 26.0. The nutrition status of the children at birth indicated 11.6% underweight as compared to the time of the study (7.2%), 7.9% were stunted increased to 38.0%, while wasting decreased from 11.4%–2.4%. Early cessation of breastfeeding and inappropriate complementary feeding practices were the factors influencing growth. The prevalence of underweight and wasting were low while stunting and overweight were high.

Breast-feeding Practices among Primipara mothers at Selected Community, Chennai

Introduction: Breast milk is the best and most comprehensive source of nutrients for babies. Poor baby feeding practices are the cause of 60% of infant and early child mortality worldwide. The growth and development of children may be negatively impacted by inappropriate newborn feeding practices, particularly in underdeveloped and developing nations. Hence the present study was undertaken to determine the Breast-feeding Practices among Primipara Mothers at Selected Community, Chennai. Methods: A descriptive correlational design was used. The study was carried out in a community area in Chennai. Using the purposive sampling technique, 100 primipara mothers with infants between the ages of 1-12 months who fulfil the inclusion criteria were selected after obtaining formal agreement from the relevant authorities of the selected community area and ethical clearance from the institutional ethical committee. The data was gathered through interview method using pre-tested instruments such as background variable proforma, obstetrical variable proforma, and proforma to evaluate primipara mothers' breastfeeding practices. Results: The study findings revealed that 73% of the primipara mothers had moderately adequate practice. None of them in the category of needs improvement. There was a significant association between selected obstetrical variables such as mode of delivery and practice on breast feeding in primipara mothers (p&lt;0.05). Those who had normal vaginal delivery had good practice when compared to those who delivered through LSCS.

A significant proportion of these children live in economic and social environment which impedes the child’s physical and mental development, this condition include poverty, poor environment sanitation, diseases, infections, inadequate access to primary health care, inappropriate child caring and feeding practices. According to Holistic Concept of Homoeopathy malnutrition is not only caused by deficiencies but also due to body’s inability to absorb and assimilate the food. This is the area where Homoeopathic Medicines plays vital role in the treatment of malnutrition. This itself creates its need to study. Materials and Methods: This clinical study was conducted in the sample of population from Dhwani Homoeo Clinic, Ahmedabad, and Gujarat. Fifty cases of malnutrition were analyzed. The study sample included children aged 3 to 8 years and of both sexes. These cases were analyzed after considering their age, sex, low body weight, poor appetite, thin arms and legs, weakness, faintness, fatigue, irritability and recurrent history of infection in body. The investigations were conducted in necessary cases. The cases were analyzed up to one year with regular interval of follow-ups. All the cases were analyzed under following protocols: Conclusion: As a result of study of selected 50 cases it was found that the age groups between [6-8 years] were found to be more prone to such disorders [60%]. Maximum sex incidences of the patients of the study were male children [54.00%]. Out of selected cases 28 children [56%] were belong to nuclear family. It was observed that those children [27 cases] [54%] who were taken care by other family members and not mothers were more prone to develop malnutrition.56% of children [28 cases] were having poor dietary intake as a root cause of malnutrition.54% of children [27 cases] had reduced absorption of macro and micro nutrients.76% [38 cases] had recurrent history of infection, 70% [35 cases] had poor appetite, 64% [32 cases] had irritability of mind, 54% [27 cases] had wasting of muscles. 84% [42 cases] cases were improved by Nutrition as well as Health Education as well as Homoeopathic Medicine.

Study of Factors Associated with Inappropriate Complementary Feeding Among Children Aged 6 to 23 Months, Western Health Region of the Gambia, 2020

Introduction: Inappropriate complementary feeding practices are a major cause of morbidity and mortality in the first two years of life. The aim was to investigate factors associated with inappropriate complementary feeding practices among mothers of children aged 6-23 months in the Western Health Region of The Gambia. Methodology: This was a cross-sectional, descriptive and analytical study conducted from 14 September to 14 October 2020. The study population consisted of mothers of children aged 6 to 23 months attending reproductive and child health clinics and enrolled in the &amp;quot;Every Child Counts - My Child Project&amp;quot; immunization and vaccination program. Simple random sampling was used to select participants using the project. Data were collected by means of a questionnaire administered by telephone interview and concerned the socio-demographic characteristics of the mothers, the professional and economic characteristics of the parents, the socio-demographic characteristics of the children, diet and complementary feeding practices. Results: The mean age of the mothers was 28.3 (±5.4) years and that of the children 14.2 (±4.8) months. Minimum dietary diversity was 33.3%, minimum meal frequency 88% and minimum acceptable dietary intake 14.5% for all children aged 6-23 months. Non-respect of minimum dietary diversity was associated with the child&amp;apos;s female sex, with an OR = 16.3 [1.83-145.7], with the occurrence of both diarrhea and Acute Respiratory Infection (ARI) in the two weeks preceding the survey, with an OR = 27.2 [4.26-39.8], and with the child&amp;apos;s birth in a public health facility, with an OR = 55.1 [1.53-197.7]. Children whose mothers were aged between 25 and 34 and whose fathers did not work had a higher risk of non-respect of the dietary diversity, with OR = 54.1 [2.4 6- 118.5] and OR = 22.5 [2.32 - 31.9] respectively. The factors associated with non-respect of the minimum meal frequency were the advanced age of the children: 12 to 17 months with an OR= 28.6 [1.65 - 49.5] and 18 to 23 months with an OR= 18.9 [1.67 - 215.0] and a history of both ARI and diarrhea with an OR=. 52,9 [1,61 - 173,7]. Non-respect of the minimum acceptable dietary intake was associated with older children aged 18 to 23 months OR= 14.4 [2.25- 93.0] and those whose mothers had vocational training OR=.24.2 [1.27- 46.3]. Conclusion: Complementary feeding practices are not very satisfactory. It is important to strengthen nutrition education in order to improve infant and young child feeding practices.

Appropriate complementary feeding practice and associated factors among mothers of children aged 6-23 months in Bhimphedi rural municipality of Nepal.

Appropriate complementary feeding plays a crucial role in the enhancement of child survival; and promotes healthy growth and development. Evidence has shown that appropriate complementary feeding is effective in preventing malnutrition and child mortality. Thus, the main objective of this study is to assess the prevalence of appropriate complementary feeding practice and associated factors among mothers of children aged 6-23 months. A community-based cross-sectional study was conducted from August to December 2018. A total of 259 mothers who had children aged 6-23 months were selected randomly from the 714 eligible mothers. A structured questionnaire was used to collect the data from the respondents. The data were collected in a tablet phone-based questionnaire using the Open Data Kit mobile application by face-to-face interview. Data analysis was done in SPSS version 21. Multivariable logistic regression was used to identify the factor associated with appropriate complementary feeding practice. The prevalence of appropriate complementary feeding practice was 25%. Mother and father with formal education (AOR 6.1, CI: 1.7-22.4 and AOR 5.6 CI: 1.5-21.2 respectively), counseling on IYCF (AOR 4.2, CI: 1.5-12.3), having kitchen garden (AOR 2.4, CI: 1.1-5.2) and food secured family (AOR 3.0, CI: 1.0-8.9) had higher odds of appropriate complementary feeding practice. This study revealed that a significant proportion of mothers had inappropriate complementary feeding practice for their children aged 6-23 months. This study highlights the need for behavior change communication and promotion of kitchen garden to address the associated factors and promote appropriate complementary feeding practice.

Community perception and utilization of services for the severe wasted children aged 6-59 months in the Forcibly Displaced Myanmar Nationals and their nearest host communities in Bangladesh: a qualitative exploration.

There is a paucity of data on community perception and utilization of services for wasted children in Forcibly Displaced Myanmar Nationals (FDMN) and their nearest host communities. We conducted a qualitative study to explore community perceptions and understand the utilization of services for severely wasted children among the FDMN and their nearest host communities in Teknaf, Cox's Bazar. We carried out 13 focus group discussions and 17 in-depth interviews with the caregivers of the children of 6-59 months, and 8 key informant interviews. Caregivers' perceived causes of severe wasting of their children included caregivers' inattention, unhygienic practices, and inappropriate feeding practices. However, the context and settings of the FDMN camps shaped perceptions of the FDMN communities. Caregivers in both the FDMN and host communities sought care from healthcare providers for their children with severe acute malnutrition (SAM) when they were noticed and encouraged by their neighbors or community outreach workers, and when their SAM children suffered from diseases such as diarrhea and fever. Some caregivers perceived ready-to-use therapeutic food (RUTF) as a food to be shared and so they fed it to their non-SAM children. Caregivers of the children having SAM with complications, in the FDMN and host communities, were reluctant to stay in stabilization centers or complex respectively, due to their households' chores and husbands' unwillingness to grant them to stay. The findings of this study are expected to be used to design interventions using locally produced RUTF for the management of SAM children in the FDMN, as well as to inform the health sector working on SAM child management in the host communities.

Analysis of traditional feeding practices and stunting among children aged 6 to 59 months in Karanganyar District, Central Java Province, Indonesia

BackgroundTraditional feeding practices are widespread in Indonesia. Therefore, using traditional feeding practices commonly used among mothers, this study examined the association between these practices and stunting along with other relevant factors (i.e., sociodemographic factors, feeding practices, vaccination status, and place of residence).MethodsThis cross-sectional study was conducted in Karanganyar District, Central Java Province. Data from a total of 706 children aged 6 to 59 months (352 children with stunting and 354 children without stunting) were obtained from the medical records of 10 primary health care units (PHCUs) in 9 subdistricts. Descriptive analysis and binary logistic regression (BLR) were performed to explore the association between the dependent (stunting) and independent variables.ResultsThe BLR results from children 6 to 59 months indicated that children of mothers with food restrictions during pregnancy (AOR = 5.87, 95% CI: 3.03, 11.38), children with prelacteal feeding (AOR = 4.27, 95% CI: 2.16, 8.41) and children with food restrictions (AOR = 7.74, 95% CI: 1.22, 49.16) were more likely to experience stunting. Those from children 6 to 23 months revealed that food restrictions during pregnancy (AOR = 17.55, 95% CI: 2.86, 107.80) and prelacteal feeding (AOR = 10.58, 95% CI: 2.06, 54.41) were related to stunting. The reasons for traditional feeding practices were related to cultural beliefs. For example, mothers believed that red meat could cause high blood pressure; thus, the consumption of red meat could trigger miscarriage or bleeding during delivery. In addition, this study showed that low sociodemographic status, inappropriate feeding practices, incomplete vaccination, and residence in rural areas were related to stunting.ConclusionsThe findings reflect the importance of education for mothers to correct misconceptions of traditional feeding practices. The government should strengthen counseling services in PHCUs to improve mothers’ knowledge of and attitudes toward appropriate feeding practices. Additionally, public relations practices through the mass media should continue for family members, especially senior members, as they influence mothers’ autonomy in decision-making regarding feeding practices in Indonesia.

Family Influences on Anorexic Refusal Behavior in Infants

In this study, an 18-month-old with apparent anorexic refusal behavior was used as a subject, and observations were recorded while the subject was eating to speculate on the reasons for the emergence of refusal behavior in the baby. The results indicated that the baby's anorexic behavior was greatly influenced in part by the feeder's inappropriate feeding concepts and feeding practices. In this regard, this study analyzed the impact of feeder behaviors on the development of eating habits in infant and made feasible recommendations for improvement.

Probability of Inappropriate Complementary Feeding Practices on Children Aged 6-23 Months in Indonesia: Results of Indonesian Demographic Health Survey in 2017

Background: One of the causes of the double burden of nutrition problems in Indonesia is the early feeding of complementary feeding. The practice of providing complementary feeding in several countries, including Indonesia, has not reached the target and it is not yet known the magnitude of the probability of complementary feeding not following the recommendations in Indonesia based on national survey data. &#x0D; Objective. To identify the risk factors for the failure of Infant and Young Child Feeding (IYCF) practice in urban and rural NTT.&#x0D; Objectives: This study aims to determine the Probability of inappropriate complementary feeding practices in Children aged 6-23 Months in Indonesia and the factors that influence it. &#x0D; Methods: The research design uses cross-sectional studies. The data is sourced from the 2017 Indonesian Health Demographic Survey (IDHS) results. The sample was selected from women of childbearing age in IDHS 2017, namely women of childbearing age aged 15-49 years who had children aged 6-23 months who met the inclusion and exclusion criteria of 4,985 children. The data were analysed using multivariate logistic regression. &#x0D; Results: The practice of giving complementary feeding according to recommendations in children aged 6-23 months in Indonesia is only 55.53%. Socio-economic status is very poor (p= 0.000; OR=1.785; 95% CI 1.44-2.213), rural residence (p= 0.000; OR=1.168; 95% CI 1.025-1.33), lower education (p= 0.002; OR=1.398; 95% CI 1.149-1.702), and grande multipara parity (p= 0.001; OR=1.57; 95% CI 1.238-1.992) is significantly associated with the practice of giving complementary feeding not by the recommendations.&#x0D; Conclusions: The probability of the practice of giving complementary feeding is not by the recommendation of 86% due to the socio-economic status of very poor families living in rural areas, low maternal education levels, and mothers with grande-multipara parity. It is necessary to improve the socio-economics of the family through the empowerment of mothers and families, increase access to health services in rural areas, improve maternal education through various programs, and intensify family planning programs to limit the number of children in the family.

Barriers to appropriate complementary feeding and the use of ultra-processed foods: A formative qualitative study from rural Oromia, Ethiopia.

Children's consumption of ultra-processed foods (UPF) is increasing in Ethiopia, but relatively little is known about the specific feeding practices that underlie this pattern. The objective of this study was to explore patterns of consumption of UPF by infants and young children within a broader context of inappropriate complementary feeding practices in extremely poor households in rural Oromia, Eastern Ethiopia. A formative qualitative study was conducted using semistructured interview questionnaires developed drawing on a socioecological model. A total of 16 focus group discussions with mothers (45 respondents), fathers (21 respondents)and grandmothers (23 respondents) of children aged 6-23 months in households that were beneficiaries of the Productive Safety Net Program were conducted, along with four key informant interviews with health workers. Qualitative transcripts were complemented with field notesbefore qualitative content analysis was applied. The key findings suggest that UPF were widely provided to infants and young children as part of a pattern of suboptimal complementary feeding, including both early and late initiation of complementary foods. In particular, UPF (including juice, biscuitsand lipid-based nutrient supplements) were diluted with or dissolved in water and fed to infants via bottle, often before the recommended age of initiation of 6 months. Mothers and caregivers reported that they perceived the products to be affordably priced and packaged, ready to use and convenient given their time constraints. The level of consumption of UPF and its effects on infant and young child feeding feeding practices and children's nutritional status in rural Ethiopia should be further explored.

Potential risk of stunting in children under five years living by the riverside: A systematic review

Introduction: Stunting, or linear growth failure, is defined by a height-for-age z-score of below -2SD according to WHO growth standard. Stunting can have short-, medium-, and long-term consequences. Rivers have an important role in human life. In several riverside areas, households still depend on the river for their livelihoods and health. This study aimed to explore the prevalence of stunting in children living by the riverside and its related factors. Methods: Epidemiological studies published from PUBMED, MEDLINE via EBSCOHost, Science Direct, ProQuest, and Research Gate databases were systematically searched. The publication period was not restricted. Only open-access and English articles were examined. Results: A total of 20 from 1200 studies were reviewed. The prevalence of stunting ranged from 20% to 48.3%. The other outcomes besides stunting were wasting and underweight status. There were 83 risk factors studied, and the most studied variables were age, gender, diarrhoea, water source, parent’s education, immunisation, and inappropriate complementary feeding practices (6 to 13 studies). Household water sources from rivers and economic status were consistently correlated with stunting. Majority of the risk factors studied were related to nutrition. From the environmental aspect, the most studied risk factors were water sources and sanitation. Conclusion: Children living by the riverside face a significant risk of stunting attributed to the consistent correlation between household water sources from rivers and economic status, affecting various aspects of daily life beyond drinking water. Future research is needed to examine the impact of environmental factors and the behaviours of riverside communities.

Determinants of inappropriate complementary feeding among children 6–23 months of age in Dessie City Northeast Ethiopia: a case-control study

BackgroundInappropriate complementary feeding is one of the leading causes of malnutrition among children 6–23 months old and delays children’s growth milestone. The determinants of inappropriate complementary feeding practice have diverse natures, so that many of the previous studies fail to generate adequate evidence on it. This study aim to address the determinants of in appropriate complementary feedings at community level.MethodsA community-based unmatched case-control study design was carried out among children 6–23 months of age in Dessie City from April 13, 2021 to May 13, 2021. Nine kebeles were selected by simple random sampling method. One month prior to the data collection time survey was conducted and 482 samples were taken from the preliminary survey data; 241 cases and 241 controls by computer generated random numbers. Interviewer administered questionnaire was used to investigate potential determinants of inappropriate complementary feeding practice. Binary logistics regression was used to identify independent determinants.ResultsPart working situation of mother [AOR = 0.21 CI: 0.08, 0.52] was negatively associated with inappropriate complementary feeding. Having no post-natal care visit [AOR = 4.062 CI:2.35,7.02], poor wealth status [AOR = 2.7 CI:1.09,6.68], food in-security [AOR = 4.49 CI:1.94,10.37], home delivery [AOR = 4.33 CI:1.43,13.15], having poor knowledge on infant and young child feeding [AOR = 5.94 CI:2.8,12.6], having no health education on complementary feeding [AOR = 2.54 CI:1.28,5.06] and father’s job [AOR = 2.2 CI:1.17,4.1] were found to be positively associated with inappropriate complementary feeding.ConclusionMothers’ work situation, fathers’ job, wealth index, food security, mothers’ knowledge on infant feeding, post-natal care, health education on infant feeding and place of delivery were independent determinants for inappropriate complementary feeding. Thus, interventions shall effectively address those factors to alleviate the problem.

Spatial variation and determinants of inappropriate complementary feeding practice and its effect on the undernutrition of infants and young children aged 6 to 23 months in Ethiopia by using the Ethiopian Mini-demographic and health survey, 2019: spatial and multilevel analysis.

Inappropriate complementary feeding practices (IACFPs) are major public health issues in Ethiopia, which usually result in stunting and becoming an intergenerational cycle. However, the spatial patterns and determinants of IACFP and its effect on undernutrition are not well understood in Ethiopia. Therefore, the aim of this study was to explore the spatial patterns and determinants of IACFPs and their effects on the undernutrition of infants and young children (IYC) in Ethiopia. This was a nationwide community-based survey study among 1,463 mothers of IYC aged 6-23 months in Ethiopia. The global spatial autocorrelation was assessed using the global Moran's-I to evaluate the spatial clustering of IACFPs. Significant clusters with high and low rates of IACFPs were explored. A multilevel mixed-effect logistic regression with cluster-level random effects was fitted to identify determinants of IACFPs with an AOR and 95% CI. The prevalence of IACFPs was 90.22%. The spatial pattern of IACFP in Ethiopia was clustered across regions (Global Moran's I = 0.63, Z-score = 12.77, value of p ≤0.001). Clusters with a high rate of IACFP were detected in southern, northwest, and eastern Ethiopia. Individual and community-level variables accounted for 63% of IACFP variation. Mothers with no education were 3.97 times (AOR = 3.97; 95% CI: 1.64-9.60) more likely to have IACFPs than those with higher education. The poorest HHs had 4.80 times the odds of having IACFPs as the richest HHs (AOR = 4.80, 95% CI: 1.23-18.71). The odds of having IACFPs were 2.18 times (AOR = 2.18; 95% CI: 1.28-3.72) higher among babies with no postnatal checkup. Non-breastfed IYC were 2.8 times (AOR = 2.80; 95% CI: 1.29-6.10) more likely to have IACFP when compared with breastfed ones. IYC with the inadequate introduction of solid, semi-solid, and soft foods, inadequate minimum dietary diversity, and inadequate minimum acceptable diet were more likely to have wasting, underweight, and stunting. This study showed the prevalence of IACFPs was very high, which had an effect on undernutrition and showed spatial variation in Ethiopia. Therefore, the government of Ethiopia and stakeholders should focus on women with no education and the poorest HHs, encourage PNC checkups, and encourage breastfeeding in the hotspot areas to minimize IACFPs in Ethiopia.

Stunting is a chronic nutritional problem caused by prolonged insufficient intake of nutrients due to inappropriate feeding practices over an extended period. Based on interviews with community health workers and mothers of toddlers in the Karanganyar area, the high prevalence of stunting is suspected to be due to the lack of understanding among the community regarding the importance of nutrition for child growth and development. Therefore, a solution that can be pursued involves the creation of locally sourced complementary feeding (MPASI) that is economically friendly yet rich in nutritional content, through the introduction of the Stunting Alert Kitchen (Dapur Hidup Siaga Stunting) using the budikdamber method and chaya cultivation. The implementation of this solution includes Focus Group Discussions (FGD), Stunting Alert Kitchen training and practice sessions for budikdamber and chaya cultivation, as well as guidance, monitoring, and evaluation. The outcomes of these activities include enthusiastic participation from the attendees. The sessions began with an introduction to chaya cultivation. Cultivating chaya plants is relatively simple as they do not require special treatment. Growing chaya in household gardens can support the household's food security by providing nutritious vegetables, enhancing overall health, and ensuring optimal nutritional intake. The subsequent activity involved budikdamber training. The advantage of budikdamber is its ability to serve as a means of fish cultivation in buckets without the need for pond space. It also allows for hydroponic cultivation of vegetables, which piqued the interest of mothers of toddlers.

The Effect of “Isi Piringku” Counseling with Video Blog (Vlog) Media on The Knowledge and Attitude of Mothers Under Children About Feeding Children Aged 6—59 Months

Data from The United Nation Children’s Fund (UNICEF), shows more than 50% of toddler's deaths are related to malnutrition, and two-third of those are related to inappropriate feeding practice for babies and toddlers, such as MP-ASI (complementary feeding) that is too fast or too late was given. The proportion of food varies consumption among children 6-23 months in Indonesia is 46,6%. The prevalence of stunting in Indonesia by 2018 is 30,8%. “Isi Piringku (My Plate)” is one of the implementations of dietary arrangements in accordance with balanced nutrition which was coined by The Ministry of Health in 2017 as a substitute of “4 Sehat 5 Sempurna (Healthy Four Perfect Five)”. Video Blog is one of the media that stimulates the senses of sight and hearing. The purpose of this research is to determine the differences in knowledge and attitude of mothers before and after counseling about “Isi Piringku (My Plate)” for toddlers (6-59 months) with video blog media.This research uses the Quasi Experimental Two Group Pre and Post Test Design. The intervention group was given counseling with vlog and the control group was not given any treatment (placebo) on the first day. The measurement of the final knowledge and attitude is done a week later. The results of this research shows that there were significant differences in knowledge and attitude before and after counseling with video blog in the intervention group with p knowledge p=0,000 (p&lt;0,05) and p attitude p=0,000 (p&lt;0,05). In addition, there were differences in knowledge and attitude of the intervention control groups after being treated with p knowledge p=0,000 (p&lt;0,05) and p attitude p=0,000 (p&lt;0,05). There is an effect of "Isi Piringku" counseling with video blog media on the knowledge and attitudes of toddler mothers about feeding toddlers.

Empowerment of health cadres in conducting stunting prevention efforts using EMPASI SEHATI educational media

Stunting is one of the nutritional problems experienced by the world, including Indonesia. Stunting occurs due to multifactorial causes. The incidence of stunting increases during the provision of complementary feeding. Many families practice inappropriate feeding practices, including early complementary feeding. Health cadres, as an extension of healthcare workers who interact directly with the community, are important in having the knowledge and ability to educate the community. The purpose of this community service activity is to empower health cadres to accelerate the reduction of stunting prevalence using the EMPASI SEHATI media. There is an increase in the knowledge of health cadres and the community regarding meeting the nutritional needs of children. The EMPASI SEHATI educational media can be an effective media that can be accommodated by health centers to increase public knowledge in the effort to prevent stunting in Indonesia.
