Open innovation: The missing link between synergetic effect of entrepreneurial orientation and knowledge management over product innovation performance

Scholars stressed over the importance of entrepreneurial orientation and knowledge management for promoting innovation in the enterprises. SMEs, especially in the developing countries are afraid of innovating new products. This research focused particularly on SMEs operating in Jordan which is considered as a heaven for SMEs. The data has been collected with the help of an adopted questionnaires through simple random sampling. The framework has been developed using theoretical lenses of resource-based view, knowledge based view, and contingency theory. A structural equation modelling approach has been applied to test direct and indirect effects. The findings supported all the established relationships except the direct relationship between entrepreneurial orientation and product innovation performance. However, indirect effect of entrepreneurial orientation through open innovation is significant. The findings are highly relevant for the practitioners as they guide that product innovation performance is dependent on open innovation, only entrepreneurial orientation is insufficient.

Practices of Entrepreneurial Orientation Among Food and Beverages Department in Malaysia: Gender Perspectives

Entrepreneurial orientation (EO) can be defined as the processes, practices, and decision-making activities which contributed towards a new entry in the business. The aims of this study is twofold, which it to investigate the highly applied EO dimensions among F&B employee and to investigate the differences in practices between the F&B employee. This study used a quantitative approach, which is survey method involving 43 sample. The data collection was done through online application. To analyse the data, Statistical Package for the Social Sciences software version 23.0 was used. To determine the most influence factors, descriptive statistics like frequency, percentage, mean and standard deviation were used. Conversely, to measure the differences between the sample groups from the aspect of gender, the independent sample t-test was used. The findings indicate that the highest applied EO dimension is Autonomy (M=5.657; SD= 0.7831) and the least applied is Risk Taking with mean score 5.182 (SD=0.952). There are significant different between all dimension accept for Autonomy, t (41) = 0.332, p = 0.742. The findings in this study hopefully contributes to the F&B industry especially the managers in planning training for their staff, by focusing on dimensions that requires most attention. As per mention, the importance of EO in industry should not be taken lightly as it is proven able to improve the quality of the entrepreneurs. Thus, the outcome this study will eventually contributes towards the sustainability of the economy in general.

Entrepreneurial orientation and supply chain resilience of manufacturing SMEs in Yemen: the mediating effects of absorptive capacity and innovation

Literature has revealed, recently, the importance of entrepreneurial orientation (EO) for supply chain resilience (SCR); however, doubts remain as to how EO could improve SCR exist due to the vagueness surrounding it. We examine absorptive capacity (AC) and innovation as two mechanisms that mediate the EO-SCR relationship. An empirical analysis was made of the proposed model, based upon survey data for 171 manufacturing SMEs in the Sana'a region, Yemen, using a structural equation model (SEM) with the SmartPLS. The results obtained have shown that EO positively affects SCR for SMEs and, most significantly, this relationship is indirect as it is fully mediated by AC and innovation. The findings have revealed that EO improves SCR when those firms make efforts in developing AC and innovation. EO is significant, but it may not be sufficient to improve SCR if the firm is unable to absorb external knowledge and innovate.

Entrepreneurial orientation at higher education institutions: State-of-the-art and future directions

This study aims to map and identify the characteristics, methodologies, and results of empirical studies on entrepreneurial orientation (EO) at higher education institutions (HEI). A systematic literature review (SLR) was carried out using the Scopus database to do this. The findings show few studies on EO in the HEI context. There is also a lack of studies exploring the interrelationships between the EO of HEIs, the EO of students, and the EO of outreach structures. This research proposes an EO structure for the HEI context, setting out the dimensions, antecedents, moderators, and results of this construct, enabling future studies to achieve broader and deeper reflection on the importance of EO within the HEI context.

The Importance of Entrepreneurial Orientation's Dimensions in Influencing the Organizational Performance of Food and Beverage SMEs

The study is attempted to examine and analyze the important influence of entrepreneurial orientation components - risk-taking, innovativeness, and proactiveness- on the organizational performance of Yemeni Small and Medium Enterprises within the food and beverage industry. The model of study is tested on 459 owners/Managers of SMEs by employing the analysis of Partial Least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM), as well as Importance-Performance Map Analysis (IPMA). After utilizing the cross-sectional approach, the results illustrated that the innovativeness and risk-taking have a significant and positive impact on organizational performance, but their effect was less than proactiveness. Moreover, the analysis of importance-performance pointed out that proactiveness more important than innovativeness and risk-taking in determining organizational performance. The model of study expounded 34% of the whole variance in SME's performance. Moreover, it provided the implications of practical and theoretical.

Entrepreneurial Orientation: Its Relationship with the Entrepreneur’s Subjective Success in SMEs

Previous research has underlined, normally from a firm-level perspective, the importance of entrepreneurial orientation in explaining objective entrepreneurial success. Nevertheless, its impact on the perception of entrepreneurs with respect to what entrepreneurial success means to them remains underexplored. Based on a sample of manager-owners of small companies, and contemplating entrepreneurial orientation as an individual concept, we used a time-lagged design with two data-collection points to explain the effect of innovative orientation (IO), risk-taking orientation (RTO) and proactive orientation (PO) on the subjective success of entrepreneurs. Our results show that only one dimension of entrepreneurial orientation, proactive orientation, is associated with entrepreneurs’ satisfaction with their activity, life, organization and the growth of the company.

The Importance Of Business Research Skills In Entrepreneurial Orientation For Digital Transformation

In recent years area of entrepreneurship has gained significant attention nationally and internationally. It is one of the main skills priorities of national governments and EU council. Traditionally associated with commercial activity, entrepreneurship has gained traction as a key competence necessary to allow society as a whole to adapt to the changing economic climate. An important aspect particularly in the digital transformation is entrepreneurial orientation (EO) as the proactive nature of businesses of products and services in the market seeking for new innovations by even investing into it in spite of the high risk following it (Miller, 1993). It seems that organizations guided by a combination of market, technology, entrepreneurial learning (EL) and entrepreneurial orientation (EO) are well-positioned to take advantage of the opportunities presented by digital technologies.
 Small and medium sized companies (SMEs) greatly contribute to employment and wealth in Europe but there are limited studies into the specific skills needs required for SMEs into the future. Skills such as problem solving, critical thinking and entrepreneurship allow learners to adapt to changes, communication, digital skills and teamwork allow learners to collaborate and exploit technology in the changing workplace. Research is a key element of entrepreneurial success, but how these skills particularly workplace-oriented ones improve entrepreneurial orientation has not been widely explored in the literature. 
 This paper explores the importance of EO and entrepreneurship today, the skills required to allow our society to become more entrepreneurial and identifies the potential of workplace research skills to develop entrepreneurial capacity in all facets of work, particularly within SMEs.

A Pilot Study of Entrepreneurial Orientation towards Commercialization of University Research Products

Abstract Recently, commercialization of university research products sre getting attention from various sectors mostly from the Malaysian government to be as one of the key aspects that contribute to the economic growth. It is proven by developed countries that commercialization of university research products can generated income for the particular nation through the sale of R&D and innovations products. Therefore, this study attempts to investigate on the importance of entrepreneurial orientation (EO) towards the commercialization of university research products. It is believe that EO may help to improve the rate of commercialization of university research products in Malaysia. Comprehensive literature review discussed to argue the importance of EO towards the dependent variable. A questionnaire survey was conducted for this study and the questionnaire was distributed to the 30 respondents from five Research University in Malaysia. An early result shows that all constructs have good internal consistency reliability ready to be test in the next stage.

Entrepreneurial orientation, social capital, and the internationalization of SMES: Evidence from China

AbstractThis article combines arguments from entrepreneurship literature and social capital theory to examine the antecedents to the internationalization of small and medium‐sized enterprises (SMEs) from China. Our quantitative study of 117 Chinese SMEs demonstrates the overall importance of entrepreneurial orientation and social capital of entrepreneurs in facilitating their internationalization efforts, and also reveals that different dimensions of entrepreneurial orientation and different types of social capital exert different levels of independent influence on Chinese SMEs' internationalization. Complementary data from multiple case studies explains the variation between our quantitative findings and the findings of previous research. By highlighting the value of the entrepreneurial attributes of Chinese SMEs and the social capital embedded in their networks in the pursuit of their internationalization, the article adds to the scant literature on the internationalization behavior of the rapidly emerging Chinese SMEs. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.

Effects of entrepreneurial orientation on online retail performance

The importance of entrepreneurial orientation on performance is widely recognised, but little is known about the relationships between the individual dimensions of entrepreneurial orientation and firm performance. The present paper investigates how the dimensions (innovativeness, proactiveness and risk taking) of entrepreneurial orientation vary and how they impact online retail performance. Survey data from retail firms were analysed using structural equation modelling. The findings suggest that the dimensions of EO vary independently and that they have opposing effects on firm performance. Proactiveness was found to have a statistical significant positive impact on performance, while the effects of innovativeness and risk taking were negative. The findings have managerial implications for online retailing.

Higher education in tourism: An entrepreneurial approach

The intention of the article is to demonstrate the importance of entrepreneurial orientation within a higher education in tourism. A study of students' assessment of the tourism course at the Faculty of Economics and Business in Maribor will be discussed 1) to highlight the entrepreneurial orientation of the course, and 2) to gain some information on the introduction of entrepreneurial and managerial skills into the new curriculum. In particular the paper may help to identify some directions for further development in this challenging education field in order to provide necessary skills in the small business within the Slovene tourism industry.
