The Role of Effective Project Management in Strengthening Competitiveness

Objective: The complexity, or complexity of our world is not only due to the increasing number of changes in our lives. We are faced with more and more difficult and complex tasks and goals every day, and it is very difficult to perform better and better in the face of these tasks and challenges. Project management is precisely about helping to turn complex tasks into well-executed processes that always end with a result. Project management is more than a set of methodologies: it is a dynamic discipline that organises complex tasks, mitigates risks and directs efforts towards a common goal. Its relevance can be demonstrated in many areas. We can measure the success of our project management system on a number of points, from efficiency to the quality of teamwork and management satisfaction. Defining criteria for success is also an important challenge for researchers today. This paper addresses similar issues, thus trying to shed light on the importance of project management, while also trying to highlight the barriers and obstacles. Project management can be a major competitive advantage for companies in the 21st century, but only if it is carried out professionally and well, i.e. if it is given the right framework and support. Method: After a secondary literature review, this paper presents the results of a primary research study covering two countries. The research instrument was a questionnaire that assessed the project perception of Hungarian and Slovakian enterprises and the transformation of this perception in a complex way, based on the perceptions of enterprises in both countries. In addition to classical basic statistical methods, the study drew conclusions with the help of analysis of variance. Results and conclusion: In this study, we set out to assess the project perceptions of Hungarian and Slovakian businesses based on the opinions of SMEs. The sample clearly shows that Slovak enterprises attach more importance to the project approach, as indicated by the mean scores for each statement. The results also show that there is a high heterogeneity in the perception of enterprises on project management and project approach, especially when grouped along different size categories. All these results also show significant differences by country and segment, which are presented in detail in the research part of the study. Research implications: Our research results provide a good basis for businesses and educational institutions on how to look at their projects and their management. The study aims to strengthen the ability to think in terms of projects and to think in terms of projects, drawing attention to the most important directions and paths. Originality/value: The main focus of the study is on how such knowledge is perceived by the stakeholders interviewed and whether the answers can be used to draw conclusions that are of interest and informative for the wider society.

The Road Ahead and Challenges of Revenue Cycle Management in Saudi Governmental Hospitals.

Healthcare providers use revenue cycle management (RCM) to track patient billing and revenue. The revenue cycle collects data from various systems and compiles it into a single RCM system connected to payers. Effective system integration improves revenue and financial stability. The aim is to assess RCM feasibility in Saudi Arabia's governmental hospitals, examine financial management, and recommend practical implementation. In this study, healthcare leaders were interviewed face-to-face and via audio recording to collect qualitative data in response to semi-structured questions. Key informants from seven main hospitals were interviewed. Respondents understood RCM and identified internal and external challenges in hospital financial management. Government hospitals face accountability obstacles. Two of the seven surveyed hospitals operate business clinics using a fee-for-service model. The billing system is not integrated with the information system. The RCM system faces challenges such as unclear vision, lack of accountability, staff resistance, process redesign, and importance of project management. Despite these challenges, respondents still value RCM and recognize its importance in improving hospital revenue management. Effective implementation of RCM requires significant transformational processes, including vision, governance, accountability, proper training, and effective monitoring and evaluation processes. Communication should also be emphasized, and the patient's perspective must be brought into focus. Involving all stakeholders can create direct and holistic patient benefits; therefore, bringing them on board is crucial. New approaches are required to enhance healthcare in Saudi Arabia, addressing gaps in revenue optimization and RCM. Future research should evaluate the move from government-funded to self-operated hospitals, providing a better understanding of the challenges and opportunities.

Discussion on Methods and Measures of Road and Bridge Construction Project Management

In the process of domestic economic construction, various road and bridge engineering projects have started construction, which is of great significance for the development of the domestic economy and is also the key to the national economy and people's livelihood. Therefore, it is necessary to pay attention to the construction and management of bridge projects. This article discusses the significance and importance of project management in road and bridge engineering construction, and explores its project management strategies. In recent years, the construction scope of road and bridge projects in many regions of China has expanded, putting forward more and higher requirements for road and bridge project management. This article explores the management methods and strategies for road and bridge construction projects, aiming to enhance project management efforts and strengthen project construction quality. This article combines its own construction experience and determines the importance of road and bridge project construction management based on reference method and case analysis method. From construction practice, it can be concluded that in the new era of road and bridge construction, it is necessary to focus on implementing the project manager responsibility system and strengthening the construction of project management teams. Properly manage materials and labor, reasonably apply mechanical equipment, formulate a comprehensive personnel reward and punishment system, summarize construction management experience, improve various project management systems, select targeted management methods, and improve the effectiveness of project construction.

The importance of project management in the modern world was analyzed. The problem of using softwaretools in project management was substantiated. A review of scientific works on the subject of the study was carried out.Four features that describe the need in project management tools were analyzed. A list of 10 alternative tools to MicrosoftProject was described. SWOT analysis of Microsoft Project was conducted too. Creation steps of the new softwareproduct “Daily ProM Software” were described. All buttons and their functions were justified. SWOT analysis of thedeveloped product was conducted too. The advantages of the program were described in the research.DAILY ProM is a process mining software tool that is used to analyze, visualize and improve business processes. It isan open-source software developed at Eindhoven University of Technology, and is available for free download from theProM website.With DAILY ProM, users can import event logs from various sources, such as ERP systems, workflow managementsystems, and databases. The software then uses process mining techniques to extract useful insights from the event logs,such as process flow, performance metrics, bottlenecks, and compliance issues.DAILY ProM supports a wide range of process mining techniques, including process discovery, conformancechecking, performance analysis, and social network analysis. The human-side of project management is a topic that has been explored in project management, but not to the extent that it should be. Health and safety is of paramount importance in project management, particularly construction project management. What is often overlooked is the mental health side of health and safety and how anomalistic psychological experiences can have an adverse impact on project success. This paper proposes using ‘k-scores’ to measure psi-hit and psi-miss, or in other words the extent to which a person thinks they have had an anomalistic experience or that they have not. The measure of k-scores are derived from combining the ecological cognition framework with a parametric user model. The benefit of this is that it allows the collection of data online, such as through Microsoft Teams, Skype or Zoom.

Subject. This article discusses the importance of project management in the activities of public authorities. Objectives. The article aims to determine the current level of development of project management techniques and trends in their progress with the public authorities of the Russian Federation. Methods. For the study, I used general scientific and special research methods. Results. The article describes the advantages of the project management methodology, which can contribute to saving from 20 to 30% of time and from 15 to 20% of the funds spent. Conclusions. The development of a fair system of motivation for project stakeholders, helping ensure a higher level of responsibility, is an important step in the development of project management in the public sector.

The article focuses on the importance of project management in the IT companies’ activity, which is determined by the specifics of enterprises offering digital products and business models, as well as the peculiarities of relationships between enterprises as participants of distribution channels. The study describes the main types of IT companies, in particular, identifies the advantages and disadvantages of each type of companies. Significant differences in the activities of product and outsourcing IT companies have been identified, the main conditions for successful positioning of product IT companies have been outlined, which are: participants in project activities, phases of the digital product life cycle and the chosen business model. The specifics of the enterprises' activity – manufacturers of products and the involvement of product IT companies in this activity have been determined to be promising from the point of view of income maximizing for the participants of vertical sales channels. The example of GMDH Streamline describes the activities of a product IT company that offers effective IT solutions, in particular for forecasting supply and demand, as well as inventory planning. The article describes the proposed GMDH Streamline software solution, namely the improvement of the ERP system, and the Agile approach used in the project management process. The proposed study can be a source of information for further research on the search for mechanisms to maximize the income of enterprises – manufacturers using modern software solutions to optimize stocks, as well as forecasting the demand and supply. Theoretical provisions highlighted in the article on the possibilities of building effective sales chains in terms of planning the costs of operating activities, in particular for manufacturers can have significant practical value for company management.

Prospective Environmental and Economic Assessment of a Sensor Network

Sustainability is becoming of vital importance in project management, and a life cycle assessment (LCA) can ensure a body of knowledge to bear in mind the environmental burdens the project involves. In this study, two different ways of supplying energy to a sensor network are analyzed. Firstly, we analyze the environmental impact of the devices connected to the public grid. Secondly, we analyze the completely full off-grid system, with the sensor connected to a photovoltaic (PV) panel. Our findings show that the off-grid option has a greater number of benefits than the grid-connected option in terms of environmental impacts, although it is less economically advantageous. In a detailed analysis of the off-grid scenario, it can be observed that the battery is the component with the highest impact, so actions to try to reduce consumption, and, therefore, the battery size and its negative impact are taken. After reducing the battery size, the break-even point was reached, providing a net economic benefit of EUR 0.23 sensor/year. However, this analysis refers to a single sensor, and although the environmental and economic benefits seem low, in an economy of scale, this could result in large savings if these types of sensors are massively installed.

Complexity, Maturity and Competency in the Project Risk Management Environment: A Relational Framework involving the Triple Helix Role Players

The growth in project activity and rise in project failures emphasises the importance of project management as a discipline in which employee perceptions, knowledge, decision-making and communication play a central role. This is even more apparent when projects affect not only one facet of society, but have far reaching consequences for government, industry and training providers. This paper aims to ascertain whether there is a relationship between complexity, maturity and competence with respect to projects. A multi-method research approach was employed, whereby interviews and a web-based survey were used to collect data from Eskom management and project risk management practitioners. The data and information were used to develop a sense-making framework and propose recommendations to enhance project risk management, where-after, the organization (Eskom) developed a competency framework for project managers.

This article discusses the importance and prospects of the project management process as a component of the science of financial engineering. Project management includes creating a work schedule, appointing a project manager, selecting a project team, project implementation and monitoring. The purpose of this article is to financially substantiate the essence and importance of project management in the activities of Ukrainian organizations and provide recommendations for optimizing the develop- ment of the project management process, in particular startups in the context of digitalization and financial development 4.0. An important role today is played by startup projects, which require in-depth study and development of measures to overcome obstacles to their implementation, as discussed in the article. The list of perspective directions (branches) of economy on creation of startups in Ukraine from the point of view of authors of article is also offered. The main features of project management – is the focus on results, regular interaction with stakeholders, the ability to assess project implementation. Modern approaches to project management are flexible, focused on getting quick results, and resilience to change, but they do not include a group of project marketing management processes. Although world experience shows that end-user loyalty to the brand and to the company's products increases, if the user feels the value of his opinion, realizes that he is involved in the process of developing new products and services, and also create a product that is interesting specifically for him. It is to solve such problems that it is important to include and use the group of marketing management processes not only at the stage of initiation and planning of the project, but also to use the services of marketing specialists at the stage of project development. Based on this, we can conclude that one of the main conditions for successful project management is professionally competent planning. The article emphasizes the lack of professional staff in the field of development and implementation of projects as an independent part of financial engineering. The problem of developing effective financial products also needs further study, especially in the context of digitalization, globalization processes, blockchain development, crowdfunding projects, and including startup projects.

Project management when not planned correctly can lead to serious future problems, since it is responsible for control within the organization. Companies that provide this type of service, should pay attention to the way in which their work is developed, always analyzing all the details to see if they are of excellent qualities and if they are effective for management at the moment.

Analyzing Project Management Methods in Organizing Sports Events

The purpose of this study was to investigate the use and importance of project management (PM) methods in organizing sports events (SEs). Furthermore, the study analyzed differences in usage and importance of PM methods in relation to the type of SE. Finally, reasons for and obstacles to the implementation of PM methods in organizing SEs were identified. To assess the research questions, a quantitative survey ( n = 78) and a focus group discussion ( n = 5) were carried out. The results showed that PM methods were employed for SEs with higher usage and importance rates in large compared with small SEs. Requirements by event stakeholders, knowledge transfer, confidence building, progress control, and justification as well as opportunities to save money by introducing an improved planning process were identified as the main reasons for using PM in the organization of SEs. This study is the first work to provide an overview of the usage of specific PM methods in organizing SEs.

In the current dynamic environment, the importance of project management keeps increasing in relation to continuous changes. The organizations that do not adapt to the evolving environment and do not innovate do not have a chance to stay on the market for a long time. Project approach to problem solving is becoming increasingly popular. The reason is that it is not possible to solve every change in the same way, so it is necessary to create innovative projects that respond flexibly to the requirements of both the current state and the target state. The aim of the paper is to compare the approaches of the enterprises with and without project management in the manufacturing industry to investments in innovation and access to the factors that limit their further development. About 70% of the surveyed enterprises (164) are project-driven. These organizations innovate much more. The lack of skilled employees is the most limiting factor of the development.

AbstractSuppliers to the oil and gas industry are experiencing an increased pressure from customers to deliver products at a lower cost and shorter schedule. One of the most costly single activity in packaging a Complex System is the process of system integration testing, verification and validation (test phase). In the researched Company this process has also proven to be a bottleneck. Symptoms are accumulated units ready for test, projects that are not put through, and delayed completion of projects.This paper analyzes the testing process. The initial objective was to identify what impacts the testing schedule. We analyzed the testing process using root cause analysis methods. Our research identified that several issues occurred, both prior to and in the test phase. However, only a few of the issues have a significant impact on the test schedule. This project shows how crucial project management is for complex systems. It also gives an insight to how the company can successfully manage the system integration, verification and validation phase.

Owner’s Risk Allocation and Contractor’s Role Behavior in a Project: A Parallel-mediation Model

Risk allocation decisions are of critical importance in project management. The present study proposes an explanation for how risk allocation in a contract motivates a contractor to cooperate with a project owner. Theories of risk allocation and trust were used to motivate the research. Using a survey methodology, we collected data concerning 124 construction projects in China. We found that risk allocation influenced the contractor’s role behavior through the contractor’s feeling of being trusted but not the contractor’s trust in the owner. Feeling of being trusted partially mediated the effect of risk allocation on the contractor’s in-role (i.e., contractual) behavior and fully mediated the effect on extra-role behavior. The study introduces a social and psychological view of the impacts of risk allocation to the project and engineering management literature. We contribute to theory by arguing and demonstrating the mediating effect of trust on the relationship between risk allocation and contractor behavior. From a practical standpoint, we conclude that contractual risk allocation has a significant impact on building a trusting relationship between owners and contractors and that contractors who feel trusted perform both contractually mandated actions and actions external to the contract more diligently, resulting in the likelihood of improved outcomes for both parties.
