The aim of this study is to clarify the structural relationships between college students' perceived disconnection and rejection schema, self-concept clarity, career belief, and career adaptability. In pursuit of this goal, a survey was conducted with 356 college students, and ultimately, data from 349 participants was analyzed. Firstly, the research findings indicate that the structural model fit of college students' perceived disconnection and rejection schema, self-concept clarity, career belief, and career adaptability is satisfactory, suggesting the model's suitability for predicting the structural relationships among variables. Secondly, in relation to college students' career adaptability, self-concept clarity had a negative impact, while career belief had a positive impact. Thirdly, a complete mediating effect of career belief was confirmed in the relationship between perceived disconnection and rejection schema and career adaptability. Additionally, a partial mediating effect of career belief was verified in the relationship between self-concept clarity and career adaptability. Based on these results, the significance of perceived disconnection and rejection schema, self-concept clarity, and career belief for college students' career adaptability was discussed, and future implications for career counseling and education were considered.

Objectives The purpose of this study is to verify the mediating role of job-seeking stress, especially in relationship between self-efficacy and career preparation behavior of senior undergraduates who consider employment, and to provide implications for career counseling based on the study.
 Methods The study is based on the survey participation of senior undergraduates(including the students who are in extra semesters and maintain scholarly) in Seoul, Gyeonggi-Incheon, and other regions. Demographic variables, general self-efficacy, career preparation behavior and job-seeking stress were studied among 250 respondents who answered that they were considering employment and the data was analyzed by using SPSS 29.0 and Process Macro to verify the research questions.
 Results The result revealed that there was a positive correlation between self-efficacy and career preparation behavior of the senior undergraduates, a negative correlation between self-efficacy and job-seeking stress, and job-seeking stress partially mediated the relationship between self-efficacy and career preparation behavior. The direct effect of self-efficacy on career preparation behavior was larger than the total effect, so job-seeking stress was found to be a suppressor variable.
 Conclusions For senior undergraduates who do not have experience in practical career behavior despite having high self-efficacy, the study suggests that it is required to intervene after evaluating their job-seeking stress level.

Objectives The purpose of this study is to study the work experience and career adjustment experience of single-parent women who experienced an unanticipated transition through narrative exploration, and to provide implications for career counseling for single-parent women.
 Methods Three single parent women who underwent an unexpected transition were selected as research participants and in-depth interviews were conducted using a narrative inquiry method. The data collection period was from July 2022 to December 2022, and preliminary interviews were conducted with two research participants, followed by three interviews and additional interviews with each research participant. According to Connelly's (2000) narrative inquiry procedure, the research participants' transition experience, work experience, and career adjustment were categorized into key themes and analyzed to reconstruct the narrative.
 Results As a single parent woman who underwent an unexpected turn, the narrative about work experience and career adjustment was a turning point through the story of overcoming ‘like a salmon going upside down in a river’, and the time of struggling ‘in search of lost time’ that had not yet been given meaning. It was a journey through which he became the main character and walked the ‘rugged road I made’.
 Conclusions The personal justification of the narrative about the work experience and career adaptation of single parent women who underwent an unanticipated transition is that they form a new identity and newly recognize the meaning of life through work, and the practical justification is that giving meaning to work and career adaptation are important, and through this to achieve inner or personal growth. The social justification is that it is necessary to raise awareness and take an institutional approach to improve the working and child-rearing environment of single-parent women.

Corporate social responsibility and performance in the workplace: a meta-analysis.

Despite stakeholders' desire for organizations to participate in corporate social responsibility (CSR) activities, some organizations do not invest in CSR due to uncertainty around the value it provides to performance. This research investigates the effect size of the relationship between CSR and performance via a meta-analysis of 17 articles. A series of performance-indicating groups emerged and effect sizes were calculated using the Comprehensive Meta-Analysis software. These groups include in-role performance, extra-role performance, employees' affective attitudes towards organizations, and organizational-level outputs. Results suggest that CSR has a large effect on performance across a range of contexts. Implications for career counseling are discussed.

Chance in Career Choice: A Rank-Ordering Study

This study attempts to investigate the position of chance among the factors affecting the career choices of university students according to gender and willingness. For this purpose, the present study based on rank-order judgments of participants was conducted. In present study, the participants (N = 417) ranked the given ten factors in terms of their perceived impact on university department choices. Further, the participants were asked to describe the chance events they experienced related to career choice. The results showed that 28% of the participants stated that chance plays a role in their career choice. Among the factors affecting career choices, chance ranked seventh in the total sample, sixth in females, eighth in males, eighth in those who chose the department willingly, and third in those chose the department unwillingly by the degree of perceived influence. Overall, these results indicate that chance events were prioritized over others such as family demands, friend opinions and media effect. The findings were discussed and implications for career counselling were presented.

The hegemonic psychological discourse and its implications for career counselling and psychological intervention

ABSTRACT We examine a focus group with eight Portuguese psychologists (four career counsellors) on two quantitative studies' results focused on the psychosocial consequences of unemployment/precarity/uncertainty, exploring how do they: give meaning to the results, perceive their professional role, and think that socio-political issues influence their practice. Data were analysed through thematic social-constructionist and critical discourse analyses. Two themes (the construction of the “employable individual” and the limits of psychology), and two discourses (the hegemonic psychological discourse reflecting neoliberal discourses and adaptation to the labour market and “the social context is an aggressor” highlighting socio-political/economic roots of psychological ailments) were identified. We aim to foster a reflection on socially-just practices within career counselling, and to promote people’s agency/conscientisation/emancipation and career development.

The Relationship between Soft Skills, Self-Efficacy, and Career Development among Malaysian Generation Z

Generation Z is the new generation that is entering the workforce in Malaysia. This generation will be the new major working people in Malaysia, which makes their career development an important topic. From the literature review, it was shown through many studies that Generation Z is aware of soft skills but lacks the practice of the said skills. However, they have remarkably high self-efficacy. Both soft skills and self-efficacy might influence Generation Z’s career development. This leads to the aim of this study on identifying the relationship between soft skills, self-efficacy, and career development among Generation Z in Shah Alam, Selangor, Malaysia. This study involved a total of 384 Generation Z in Shah Alam. This research employed a quantitative correlational and descriptive research design. Soft Skill Questionnaire was used to identify the respondents’ equipped soft skills and which soft skills they deemed important. Meanwhile, the self-efficacy variable was measured by using the General Self-Efficacy Scale. Lastly, career development was assessed using Career Development Assessment. Correlation analysis was used to test the relationship of variables involved. The results of the study showed that there was a relationship between soft skills, self-efficacy, and career development among Generation Z in Shah Alam. This study has implications for career counselling, counsellors, and Generation Z. Both soft skills and self-efficacy have influence on Generation Z’s career development massively.

\u201cIf I won the lottery\u2026\u201d: work orientations of low-qualified young adults in Albania and Switzerland

A qualitative study was carried out to portray the work orientations of 30 low-qualified working young adults in two contrasted economies: Albania and Switzerland. The analysis of their answers to the “lottery question” showed that most participants would continue to work, either to be busy, feed a passion, feel useful, or grow. In contrast to participants from Switzerland, Albanian participants would more easily modify some aspects of their work. Globally, findings reveal that participants’ current situations tend to differ from what they expect from work, which impacts the quality of their work integration and has critical implications for career counseling.

Career adaptability, future time perspective, and career anxiety among undergraduate students: A cross-national comparison

Career adaptability is a crucial psychosocial resource for students, especially in unpredictable times that require heightened flexibility in the face of challenges and changes. More generally, students need adaptability resources to overcome negative career-related emotions that contribute to career indecision. This study examines career adaptability and its relationship to career anxiety and future time perspective (FTP). Using responses from undergraduate students at universities in China and the United States, this study empirically demonstrates that career adaptability is partially related to career anxiety, while FTP is negatively related to career anxiety. FTP also partially mediates the relationship between career adaptability and career anxiety. Additionally, this study found these significant relationships were more noticeable with the American student group than the Chinese student group, implying that cultural differences affect the relationships among the studied variables. Contributions and implications for career counselors are discussed.

Comparison of social representations of NEETs in active young French adults and NEETs themselves

ABSTRACT Although diverse European policy initiatives have been developed to integrate young NEETs – “Not in Employment, Education or Training”, it is particularly relevant to question how NEETs are perceived by their counterparts who are actively engaged in society. For this reason, we aimed to examine the Social Representations (SRs) of NEETs in France, using the classic free evocation technique. French NEETs (n = 71) and matched controls (n = 66; people employed, in education or in training) were interviewed. Results showed the scope of SRs for the semantic field of the term NEET and its associated terms. The need to develop effective communication to talk about work, education, and training with NEETs and implications for career counselling are discussed.

\u2018My family\u2019s goals are also my goals\u2019: the relationship between collectivism, distal utility value, and learning and career goals of international university students in Germany

The utility value of an academic task can affect university students’ learning behavior and career choices. For collectivistic-oriented students, learning and career goals also matter to their families. Following expectancy-value theory, we assumed that families’ achievement-related expectations would affect collectivistic-oriented students’ utility value. We conducted a survey study with 154 international university students in Germany. We found a significant mediation effect of students’ distal utility value of their university coursework on the relationship between students’ collectivism, learning goal orientation, and motivation to follow family-oriented distal career goals, respectively. Practical implications for career counselors and university teachers are discussed.

Effects of Self‐Compassion and Social Support on Lesbian, Gay, and Bisexual College Students' Positive Identity and Career Decision‐Making

The purpose of this study was to explore the serial mediating effects of self‐compassion and social support on the relationship between positive identity and career decision‐making self‐efficacy (CDMSE) among lesbian, gay, and bisexual (LGB) college students. A total of 222 LGB (109 bisexual, 113 lesbian/gay) students participated in the study. Results supported the mediating roles of self‐compassion and social support. Specifically, self‐compassion and social support sequentially mediated the relationship between positive identity and CDMSE, and the patterns of the sequence of the mediators were different between the bisexual and lesbian/gay groups. Implications for career counselors and future research are discussed.

Empathy as related to gender, age, race and ethnicity, academic background and career interest: A nationwide study of osteopathic medical students in the United States.

ContextResearch on associations between medical student empathy and demographics, academic background and career interest is limited, lacks representative samples and suffers from single institutional features. This study was designed to fill the gap by examining associations between empathy in patient care, and gender, age, race and ethnicity, academic background and career interest in nationwide, multi‐institutional samples of medical students in the United States and to provide more definitive answers regarding the aforementioned associations, with more confidence in the internal and external validity of the findings.MethodsFour nationwide samples participated in this study (n = 10 751). Samples 1, 2, 3 and 4 included 3616 first‐year, 2764 second‐year, 2413 third‐year and 1958 fourth‐year students who completed a web‐based survey at the end of the 2017‐2018 academic year. The survey included questions on demographics, academic background and career interest, the Jefferson Scale of Empathy, and the Infrequency Scale of the Zuckerman‐Kuhlman Personality Questionnaire to control for the effect of ‘good impression’ response bias.ResultsStatistically significant and practically important associations were found between empathy scores and gender (in favour of women), race and ethnicity (in favour of African‐American and Hispanic/Latino/Spanish), academic background (in favour of ‘Social and Behavioural Sciences’ and ‘Arts and Humanities’ in Samples 1 and 2) and career interest (in favour of ‘People‐Oriented’ and ‘Psychiatry’ specialties).ConclusionsSpecial features of this study (eg, nationwide representative samples, use of a validated instrument for measuring empathy in patient care, statistical control for the effect of ‘good impression’ response bias, and consistency of findings in different samples from multiple institutions) provide more definitive answers to the issue of correlates of empathy in medical students and increase our confidence in the validity, reliability and generalisability of the results. Findings have implications for career counselling and targeting students who need more guidance to enhance their empathic orientation.

The Language Style of Prospective Counselors in Islamic Perspectives: Implications for Career Counseling

<p class="06IsiAbstrak"><span>Cultural diversity, especially language style becomes a color in everyday social life, this is important considering the exchange of knowledge (transfer of knowledge) and values (transfer of values) of each individual depends on the verbal ability of humans in explaining everything that is experienced. The main issue that has become an obstacle in the world of Guidance and Counseling to this day is the demand for Counselor performance which must be improved but not accompanied by the ability to use language properly and correctly. The purpose of this study is to determine the language style of prospective counselors in the IKIP Siliwangi environment, West Java</span><span lang="IN">. An ethnographic study was chosen as a research model that aims to describe the language style of counselors in the Islamic perspective and their implications in career counseling. The data analysis technique used is thematic ethnography to thoroughly describe the language style of prospective counselors in an Islamic perspective that influences their application in the career counseling process. Based on the results of observes conducted, the authors found several findings including research subjects preferring the use of socially-formed language and applying it in daily life including in the learning process rather than considering it in an Islamic perspective such as (1) <em>Tauqiify</em>, (2) <em>Ishtilah</em>, (3) <em>tauqiify</em> and <em>ishtilahy</em>.</span></p>

Students’ Perceptions of Careers in Ghana’s Hospitality and Tourism Industry

ABSTRACTThe study aimed to explore students’ perception of careers in the hospitality and tourism industry and their intention to pursue careers in Ghana’s hospitality and tourism industry. This study used a sample of 441 students studying hospitality and tourism management at University of Cape Coast. The results indicated that, overall, the perceptions of students toward careers in the hospitality and tourism industry were unfavorable. It was also observed that: opportunity to care for others, establish own jobs, gain transferable skills, further training and education are important factors students consider in their choices of careers but they believe the hospitality and tourism industry offers something else. The study, therefore, has some implications for career counseling, guidance, and reorientation of students toward careers in the industry.

Parental attachment bonds, dysfunctional career thoughts and career exploration as predictors of career decision-making self-efficacy of Grade 11 students

ABSTRACT This study investigates the relationship between career decision-making self-efficacy (CDMSE) and parental attachment, dysfunctional career thoughts, and career exploration in a sample of 170 Lebanese Grade 11 students drawn from 10 private schools that provide career guidance services. The following tools were used to assess the variables: Career Decision-Making Self-Efficacy Scale – short form (CDMSE-SF), the Parent and Peer Attachment Bonds (IPPA), the Career Thoughts Inventory (CTI), and the Career Exploration survey (CES). Data were analysed using Pearson correlation and stepwise multiple regression. Regression results showed a significant association between parental attachment, dysfunctional career thoughts, career exploration and CDMSE. Career exploration accounted for the largest variance in CDMSE, followed by dysfunctional career thoughts and parental attachment. Theoretical and practical implications for career counselling are discussed.

Interpersonal stress in ministry: The lived experiences of female clergy cancer survivors

Ministry is a unique vocation that often requires self-sacrifice to meet the needs of others. Navigating interpersonal relationships can be a difficult aspect of ministry, and this challenge is even more pronounced if the clergy is female and battling cancer. This article reports a sub-set of findings from a qualitative study that utilized interpretative phenomenological analysis to uncover the lived experiences of six female clergy cancer survivors. The findings revealed that congregants, and participants’ relationships with congregants, influenced participants’ cancer experience in three key ways. First, participants experienced stress and loneliness based on their own and others’ unrealistic expectations associated with a career in ministry. Second, participants learned to don a figurative mask and to selectively reveal and guard their emotions about cancer and cancer treatment from those they were called to serve. Third, participants’ experience of cancer and their commitment to their calling required both reliance on God and self-care. Implications for career counseling and coaching with clergy in adverse situations are offered.
