Introduction. The article provides an overview of international measurement systems for works and services on the example of Great Britain, the peculiarities of their application, the main advantages and disadvantages. Using the example of the Standard Method of Measurement in Civil Engineering (CESMM), the article discusses how such systems can contribute to accurate measurements, time and resource savings in road construction. The experience of applying CESMM4 on road facilities in Ukraine is also considered. Problem statement. In construction in general, the use of international measurement systems is crucial for optimizing processes and improving the quality of project implementation. According to the requirements of the modern construction sector, the ability to generate bill of quantities (BoQ) according to international standards defines a new stage in the planning and implementation of construction projects. The use of international measurement systems allows not only to standardize the scope of work and services but also ensures objectivity in the preparation of tender proposals. Obtaining information on the scope of work without prices according to international standards guarantees equality and objectivity in the evaluation and selection of a contractor. This approach also helps to unify communication between all participants in the construction process, which, in turn, increases the level of mutual understanding and promotes the implementation of modern technologies and best practices. However, today there is no clarity on the detailed measurement and description of construction works, as even within one country there are a number of systems for measuring works and services.

Material Planning Analysis with Material Requirement Planning Method in High-rise Building Projects

Planning material supplies well is very important in implementing construction projects to ensure smoothness and efficiency. Smoothness includes thorough planning, including ensuring materials are met as planned, while efficiency aims to reduce time and cost. In this study, material planning will be carried out using the Material Requirement planning (MRP) method, using three different lot measurement techniques, namely Lot for Lot (LFL), Economic Order Quantity (EOQ), and Period Order Quantity (POQ). The MRP method is carried out to accurately calculate the amount of material needed to avoid excessive material inventory levels. After the MRP method, the most optimal number of orders and the total cost required for each lot measurement technique are obtained. The results of this study show that the LFL technique produces the optimum number of orders for gelam wood, plywood, reinforcement, bendrat wire, and ready mix concrete. Meanwhile, for materials such as lubricating oil, meranti wood, randu wood, and nails, it is optimal to order using the POQ technique.

TECHNOLOGIES FOR ASSESSING THE OPERATIONAL QUALITY OF INDUSTRIAL BUILDINGS AS A CONSEQUENCE OF PARTIAL MILITARY DESTRUCTION

Purpose. Research conducted in the direction of operational quality proves that the life cycle of construction products can also be significantly increased due to the use of the latest technologies of a complex technical approach. The complex technical approach covers the principles of using the latest technologies, which compensate for the functional costs of the object at the stage of operation. As part of the latest technologies, the modern world requires the presence of developments that effectively save resources and at the same time ensure the required level of security in various crisis situations, including during a state of war. The main purpose of implementing this approach is to establish the reasons for the loss of reliability and resource when accounting for changes in the conditions of the external and internal environment. Methodology. Methods and techniques for diagnosing the reliability and operational quality of construction objects make it possible to implement assessment procedures at various stages of the life cycle, including during the current period, in previous design cycles (prototype search stages), as well as comparative and analytical comparison with analogues . The results of the implementation make it possible to identify the promising direction of normalization of construction projects, to substantiate and develop technologies for the formation of its operational quality. Findings. The situation of the physical state of the industrial building due to military destruction is analyzed, after which the search for optimization technologies in the formation of reliability and operational quality of construction objects, including for the effective implementation of investment and construction projects, is substantiated and proposed. Originality. Adaptation approaches of timely response in emergency conditions, in order to comply with the planned standards of operational quality, are substantiated, implemented on the practical example of the implementation of the technical report of the production and mechanical building No. 132, located in the city of Zaporizhzhia, SE "Ivchenko-Progress" 63T-1286-OB – TK after military destruction. Practical value. Adaptation approaches of timely response in emergency conditions, in order to comply with the planned standards of operational quality, are substantiated, implemented on the practical example of the implementation of the technical report of the production and mechanical building No. 132, located in the city of Zaporizhzhia, SE "Ivchenko-Progress" 63T-1286-OB – TK after military destruction. Conclusions. The results of scientific and practical research made it possible to reveal the actual principles of management technologies, evaluation and methods of improving operational quality at all stages of the life cycle of a construction object, taking into account risky and dangerous situations during military operations. This technical report was prepared on the basis of the performed visual and instrumental research of construction structures of the industrial building. The decision of the scientific group of experts established that the operation of the object under study should be stopped until its operational suitability is restored in accordance with the proposed recommendations in accordance with the project documentation. The scientific and practical significance of the study justifies the need for further application of the latest technologies of the complex technical approach in the formation of operational quality for the effective implementation of investment and construction projects.

Determining the stationary digital twins implementation barriers for sustainable construction projects

PurposePrevious research has demonstrated that Digital Twins (DT) are extensively employed to improve sustainable construction methods. Nonetheless, their uptake in numerous nations is still constrained. This study seeks to identify and examine the digital twin’s implementation barriers in construction building projects to augment operational performance and sustainability.Design/methodology/approachAn iterative two-stage approach was adopted to explore the phenomena under investigation. General DT Implementation Barriers were first identified from extant literature and subsequently explored using primary questionnaire survey data from Hong Kong building industry professionals.FindingsSurvey results illustrated that Lack of methodologies and tools, Difficulty in ensuring a high level of performance in real-time communication, Impossibility of directly measuring all data relevant to the DT, need to share the DT among multiple application systems involving multiple stakeholders and Uncertainties in the quality and reliability of data are the main barriers for adopting digital twins' technology. Moreover, Ginni’s mean difference measure of dispersion showed that the stationary digital twin’s barriers adoption is needed to share the DT among multiple application systems involving multiple stakeholders.Practical implicationsThe study’s findings offer valuable guidance to the construction industry. They help stakeholders adopt digital twins' technology, which, in turn, improves cost efficiency and sustainability. This adoption reduces project expenses and enhances environmental responsibility, providing companies a competitive edge in the industry.Originality/valueThis research rigorously explores barriers to Digital Twin (DT) implementation in the Hong Kong construction industry, employing a systematic approach that includes a comprehensive literature review, Ranking Analysis (RII) and Ginni’s coefficient of mean difference (GM). With a tailored focus on Hong Kong, the study aims to identify, analyze and provide novel insights into DT implementation challenges. Emphasizing practical relevance, the research bridges the gap between academic understanding and real-world application, offering actionable solutions for industry professionals, policymakers and researchers. This multifaceted contribution enhances the feasibility and success of DT implementation in construction projects within the Architecture, Engineering and Construction (AEC) sector.

Estimating the Duration of Construction Works Using Fuzzy Modeling to Assess the Impact of Risk Factors

One of the most pressing issues in the implementation of construction projects is the extension of planned deadlines, significantly impacting project costs. This situation often arises due to inaccurate estimation of construction durations, which rely on normative values without accounting for factors hindering construction progress. Consequently, this article aims to develop an innovative approach for assessing construction durations, considering specific risk factors and their influence on construction activities. Given the difficulty of determining risk factors and their effects during the design phase using classical probability theory, characterized by unknown probability distributions, it is highlighted that this scenario represents planning and implementation under conditions of non-statistical uncertainty. Therefore, the article proposes an approach utilizing elements of fuzzy set theory, particularly fuzzy rules and linguistic variables, to determine delays in individual construction tasks. The proposed approach involves estimating extensions of construction timelines based on a specified probability level of occurrence for risk events and their impact. Additionally, the article provides a theoretical description of the proposed approach and practical calculation examples, demonstrating that the authors’ approach significantly enhances the accuracy of construction timeline forecasts, providing more reliable data for project planning and management.

Analysis Study of Change Contract Order (CCO) Management on Construction Project Implementation Performance in Central Lombok Regency

In construction projects, both in the public and private sectors, the occurrence of risks, such as Contract Change Orders (CCOs), is common, posing challenges to project implementation. CCOs, reflecting uncertainties in project execution, can manifest at any stage of the project, from inception to completion. Within the construction projects undertaken by the Central Lombok PUPR Office, serving as the project owner, organizer, or government project stakeholder, CCOs frequently occur, indicating a significant area of concern. This study aims to identify the primary causal factors and influences of CCOs through the utilization of questionnaire surveys, bolstered by statistical analysis employing SPSS for Windows. Our findings reveal that the predominant causal factor contributing to CCOs is the 'increasing volume according to field needs,' representing 6.61% of the total factors identified. Furthermore, the influence of CCOs on project performance is notably impacted by 'increasing daily production,' accounting for 17.4% of the total influence observed. This research not only sheds light on the specific factors driving CCOs but also underscores their implications for the successful execution of construction projects in Central Lombok Regency. By understanding these dynamics, stakeholders can implement proactive measures to mitigate risks, enhance project management practices, and ultimately improve project outcomes.

Advancing the understanding of successful technology implementation factors within state DOTs: a maturity model perspective

In an effort to improve the security, dependability, and quality of infrastructure systems, the implementation of complex transportation construction and maintenance projects is essential. Building upon a previous study that identified six crucial factors for effectively implementing new and emerging technologies in the State Department of Transportations (DOTs), this research aims to comprehensively explore six critical factors using a maturity model perspective. DOTs have shown increasing interest in adopting emerging and wireless technologies, as evident in various Federal Highway Administration Every Day Counts initiative. This study employs a mixed-methods approach, using survey responses from DOT personnel to evaluate the relative significance of technology implementation factors and subfactors. The six factors for successful technology implementation explored in this study are Organization Structure, Information Technology Infrastructure, Data Security, Information Workflow, Personnel Training, and Stakeholder Engagement. The study also evaluates the relative importance of People, Process, and Technology for each of these six factors. The paper focuses on providing detailed insights into the different criteria of each technology implementation factor and subfactor to guide agencies in successful technology deployment. Understanding these factors is critical to deploying emerging technologies successfully, which, in turn, leads to much-needed efficiency and productivity in highway construction and asset management. The findings of this study can help DOTs prioritize their technology investments and ultimately contribute to the development of a more advanced and sustainable transportation infrastructure system.

Enhancing sustainability considerations in construction industry projects

AbstractIn today’s society, the construction sector significantly influences all three aspects of sustainability: economic, environmental, and social. Industry and academia have recognized sustainability in construction projects as a key concern. The New Zealand government also focuses on providing a sustainable construction sector centred on high performance, high productivity, enhanced innovation, and improving community well-being through a better-built environment. Project management and sustainability are two distinct areas of research. Previous empirical research on the effectiveness of construction project implementation lacked sustainability success components. This research aims to provide criteria for project sustainability success for future performance on construction projects. Based on the existing literature, many economic, environmental, and social sustainability indicators were compiled for consideration at various pipeline project life cycle phases. The information gathered from the Scopus database was analyzed using ATLAS.ti 9 software to create project sustainability success criteria. Pipeline construction projects and sustainability must focus on environmental challenges while managing economic and social advantages. The research investigated sustainable construction adoption, revealing weak awareness among organizations due to limited understanding among key actors like clients, regulatory bodies, and construction organizations. Lack of effective application of sustainability guidelines, inadequate legislation, and building codes were significant hurdles in implementing sustainable practices in the construction sector. The study highlights essential issues to promote sustainable practices in the industry. The study findings suggest that organizations and individual factors are strong predictors for achieving sustainable construction and are vital antecedents leading to greater sustainability adoption. Finally, the study points to construction project managers’ knowledge of how to set up criteria connected to sustainability and how it could affect the outcome of their projects.

Creation of a System of Cost Management Indicators for the Construction Investment Projects of the Green Healthcare Buildings

Introduction. Construction of the green healthcare buildings is a rather new and priority direction of construction in China. One of the key components of efficient implementation of the projects of green healthcare buildings is the cost management of a construction investment project. The projects of green buildings envisage the advanced technical content of a facility, a wide project scope and large number of participants. Therefore, the cost management requirements have to be more demanding, however, the traditional fragmented management fails to meet the requirements fostering the development of the green healthcare buildings. The present research investigates the issues of cost management of the green healthcare construction projects, analyses the necessity, feasibility, development trends and practical cost management problems thereof. The research strives to develop the cost management assessment indicators for all life cycle stages of the projects of green healthcare buildings.Materials and Methods. The research was conducted using such methods as the literature review and the expert interview methods. The expert interview method allows using the experience of experts from the related fields to assist in decisionmaking. Therefore, a questionnaire was developed as a part of the research.Results. Upon in-depth study of the various factors affecting the cost management of the green healthcare construction projects, the strategies and response measures have been developed based on the advantages and cost management features. By summarizing the cost management assessment indicators referring to implementation of the green healthcare construction projects and by combining the opinions of the experts and scientists from the related fields, the cost management assessment system for a project of green healthcare building has been created. The created assessment indicators make it possible to implement better control over the costs assigned to the green healthcare construction projects, elevate the level of project cost management, enhance the integrated benefits of the project and ensure the cost management and cost control for the similar projects.Discussion and Conclusion. The results of the research provide a theoretical basis for creating a cost management assessment system for the green healthcare construction projects aimed to solve the problems of cost management of the green healthcare buildings. The practical significance consists in providing a real practical approach to improving the cost management of the projects of green healthcare buildings.

A study on time schedules for construction projects in Hanoi, Vietnam

With its position as the capital, Hanoi is the political center as well as the second largest economic center of the country. Therefore, the city is always allocated a large budget in construction investment to create material facilities for political tasks and economic and social development. During the implementation of construction projects, a number of difficulties and limitations have appeared. In which, projects are delayed in construction and disbursement, reducing investment efficiency and not meeting the expectations of the government and people. From this fact, the authors have conducted a study to evaluate the causes affecting the time schedule of construction projects in Hanoi. The method F-APH (Fuzzy Analytic Hierarchy Process) was used to analyze data objectively and accurately about the causes affecting the time schedule. From there, these causes are classified into groups of subjective causes (from within the project) and groups of objective causes (from outside the project). The results show that subjective causes, originating from project participants, have a stronger influence than objective causes. A number of specific proposals to the actors involved in construction projects are made to eliminate or limit the impact of the causes of construction progress.

Implementation of Contractor Safety Management System (CSMS) PT. Waskita Karya on Rigid Pavement Subcontractor

Purpose: This study aims to evaluate the application of Contractor Safety Management System (CSMS) and its compatibility between the administrative stage and implementation in construction projects, particularly focusing on the Kutanegara region in Indonesia. Recognizing the prevalence of work accidents and delays attributed to discrepancies in CSMS, the research seeks to assess the alignment between CSMS policies and their execution in the field. Methods: The research adopts a descriptive qualitative approach to evaluate the application of CSMS. Data collection employs triangulation, combining observation, interviews, and documentation review. Key informants, including main and supporting stakeholders, are selected through purposive sampling techniques to provide insights into CSMS implementation and its effectiveness in ensuring workplace safety and compliance. Results and Discussion: The evaluation of CSMS application reveals inconsistencies between administrative policies and their implementation in the field. Specifically, discrepancies are identified in the installation of vision, mission, and policy statements (16%), K3 signs and smoking bans (42%), warning signs and evacuation directions (53%), and the management of electrical panels and Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO) procedures (37%). While these inconsistencies are categorized as minor, they highlight the need for continuous improvement and alignment between CSMS policies and practices to mitigate work accidents and delays effectively. Implications of the Research: The findings of this study have implications for construction project management and safety practices, emphasizing the importance of aligning CSMS policies with on-site implementation to enhance workplace safety and efficiency. By identifying discrepancies and areas for improvement in CSMS application, the research provides insights into strategies for enhancing safety protocols and reducing the risk of work accidents and delays in construction projects. Originality/Value: This study contributes to the existing literature by addressing the gap in research regarding the alignment between CSMS policies and their implementation in construction projects, particularly in the Indonesian context. By employing a qualitative approach and triangulating multiple data sources, the research offers valuable insights into the effectiveness of CSMS in ensuring workplace safety and compliance. The findings underscore the importance of continuous improvement and adherence to safety protocols in construction projects, ultimately enhancing the overall quality and efficiency of project delivery.

Importance and Performance Analysis of Construction Management Activities in Construction Projects in Pulang Pisau Regency Based on Contractor Perceptions

Construction is a system that always involves many parties from the planning, implementation (doing), until controlling which in the process can cause problems that will affect project performance. In the implementation of construction projects, problems often occur, including the extension of work execution time, delays, additional project costs and work results that are not in accordance with the planned quality. This study aims to identify and make instruments measuring the effect of management activities on the performance of construction projects in Pulang Pisau Regency. There are 120 variables used to measure project management performance from two viewpoints of the level of satisfaction/perception and interests/expectations. Then an evaluation using the Importance Performance Analysis (IPA) method is performed. From the results of the analysis by the Importance Performance Analysis (IPA) method it can be seen that project management activity variables are the top priority that need to be improved in order to improve construction project performance, including 12 variables which are divided into 4 variables each at the planning stage, 3 variables at the implementation stage, and 5 variables at the control stage.

EXAMINING THE FACTORS CONFRONTING THE EXECUTION OF GETFUND CONSTRUCTION PROJECTS IN THE UPPER WEST REGION, GHANA

GETFund's primary goal is to offer a specialized financial source to increase government budgetary allotments for the construction of educational infrastructure at all educational levels, from pre-tertiary to tertiary, as specified in the GETFund (2000). The aim of this study is to examine the managerial skills and issues that GETFund contractors employ. The aim of this study is to investigate the challenges faced by GETFund construction project managers, pinpoint the factors that affect GETFund project performance, and suggest practical solutions to improve GETFund project execution in the Upper West Region. For this study, a descriptive survey research design was chosen. One hundred and forty-eight construction firms, twenty-one consultancies, and sixty-five clients made up the sample for the study. A questionnaire was the main method used to collect data. A descriptive statistical analysis was performed on the data. The study's conclusions showed that political and financial issues are the main barriers to the effective execution of GETFund building projects. Moreover, scheduling, and financial issues pose the biggest obstacles to the region's successful implementation of GETFund construction projects. Furthermore, the survey found that the majority of contractors' agents carrying out GETFund projects lack the technical expertise, resources, and manpower required, which makes it challenging for them to comprehend and interpret the criteria and drawings that project consultants provide them. According to the report, in-service training should be offered by reputable regulatory organizations like the Building and Road Research Institute (BRRI) to improve employees' capacity to manage firms.

THE EFFECT OF PROJECT MANAGER COMPETENCE ON THE ACHIEVEMENT OF CONSTRUCTION PROJECT PERFORMANCE

The development of the construction services sector in Indonesia continues to experience rapid growth, encouraging construction industry players to have quality human resources. This research aims to identify project manager competency factors on construction projects in Banda Aceh City, analyse the relationship between these and project performance achievements, and evaluate their influence on construction project performance achievements in Banda Aceh City. The object of this research is the competency factors of project managers that influence construction project performance. This research was conducted at contractor companies domiciled in the Banda Aceh City area. The data sources used in this research are primary data and secondary data. The population of contractors at small, medium and large qualification levels is 71 contractors. The total sample was 42 contractors. The sampling technique used was purposive sampling. The variables used in this research include the independent variable (X) and the dependent variable (Y). The data analysis used in this research is descriptive, simple correlation analysis and multiple linear regression analysis. The research results show that knowledge, skills, and attitudes have a solid relationship. In contrast, management has a high relationship with project performance achievement. Overall, the project manager's competency factor significantly affects project performance, reaching 94.9%. Management is the most dominant competency factor influencing the achievement of project performance in Banda Aceh City. Thus, increasing the competence of project managers, especially in management, is expected to improve the quality of construction project implementation in the region.

Double inclined cracks overlapping effect on mixed stress intensity factors using XFEM object-oriented implementation

The object of research is the Mixed Mode Stress Intensity Factor (MMSIF) of a two-dimensional (2D) plate. With the emergence of modern technologies and advanced innovations which contribute to the development and improvement of the design, implementation and management of construction projects, it has become easier. However, it is very difficult to manufacture components free from unavoidable defects, such as cracks, which lead to material deterioration and ultimately shorten its service life. Based on the process of local enrichment region using partition of unity concept, the extended finite element method (XFEM) has overcome the limitations of the standard FEM method in terms of modeling and numerical simulation of discontinuities (cracks) while gaining its general advantages. This makes XFEM a powerful and widely used digital tool in recent years. One of the most frequently raised problems in the discontinuities field (cracks) is the phenomenon of juxtaposition of multiple cracks in a cracked isotropic plate, which must be studied to determine the extent of its effect on the crack stress intensity factor in order to obtain higher safety reliability. On this basis, an improved object-oriented programming (OOP) with extended finite elements was used because of its great importance and well-known benefits. In this paper, the MMSIF of a 2D plate is determined to show the effect of the out-of-phase orientation of the angle, as well as the effect of the juxtaposition of two inclined cracks. As a result of the research, it is shown that, the convergence between the results obtained in this study with those reported in the literature, and to theoretical values is remarkable, and their close agreement was noted. In the future, based on the object-oriented approach characteristics represented by flexibility, scalability, and modularity, which were explained in this research, this proposed approach can be enriched to include heterogeneous materials modeling, whether linear or nonlinear, crack propagation in dynamics, in addition to Complex 3D industrial problems.

Study Of Work Order Variation And Its Influence On Project Performance In Terms Of Cost And Implementation Time In The Tenjoresmi Area Arrangement Project

This research highlights the impact of Variation Orders in construction projects, especially in the Tenjoresmi Area Arrangement. The results of the field study showed that the Variation Order caused significant changes to the Cost Budget Plan (RAB) and the performance of the implementing contractor. Some of the work affected includes changing the brand of air conditioner, replacing the amphitheater with a jogging track, dismantling railings, sanitary dismantling, plumbing dismantling, air conditioning dismantling, removing demolition debris, glass window frames, reinstalling aluminum door and window frames, wall handrails, doors. iron, disposing of excavated gravel, and planting shrubs. RAB analysis revealed changes in cost proportions for various works, such as increases in demolition and architecture and decreases in structures. In October and November, there was a delay in implementing the work due to a contract addendum, which was only approved in mid-October. However, the implementing contractor did not experience financial problems, and even experienced an increase in profit of 0.79%. In conclusion, Variation Orders can affect project time and costs, but flexible contractors can manage them well, and even optimize profits. Effective management is needed to cope with change and ensure the smooth implementation of construction projects.

Public Procurement Crisis of Iraq and its Impact on Construction Projects

The public procurement crisis in Iraq plays a fundamental role in the delay in the implementation of construction projects at different stages of project bidding (pre, during, and after). The procurement system of any country plays an important role in economic growth and revival. The paper aims to use the fuzzy logic inference model to predict the impact of the public procurement crisis (relative importance index and Likert scale) was carried out at the beginning to determine the most important parameters that affect construction projects, the fuzzy analytical hierarchy process (FAHP) to set up, and finally, the fuzzy decision maker's (FDM) verification of the parameter for comparison with reality. Sixty-five construction projects in Iraq have been selected, and the most crucial crisis variables were used for calculating the weights and their importance, using the fuzzy logic inference model to verify the crisis parameters and the extent of their impact in preparation for predicting the mathematical model of public procurement parameters. After the algorithm had been completed, it was noted that the fast, messy genetic algorithm produced a little difference between training and testing (0.012% and 0.0057%), which is more reliable for predicting mean results from models. The paper’s major conclusion is that 18 crisis factors in public procurement through different stages affect construction projects in Iraq.

Analisis Manajemen Risiko Pada Proyek Konstruksi Jalan di Provinsi Jambi

In the implementation of road construction projects, there are often various obstacles that arise due to the risks that occur which result in not achieving the expected performance, quality and achievement of work results. The purpose of this study was to determine the risk factors that affect the implementation of work in the field and to determine the application of risk management in road construction projects. In this study, risk identification, risk analysis and risk response were carried out in the construction of road construction projects, especially road construction in Jambi Province. The research method used was by way of a survey distributing risk factor questionnaires and actions on risk factors to consultants. The assessment method uses a risk matrix assessment sourced from AS/NZS 4360: 2004. From the results of this study, it is found that the risk level for road construction work in Jambi Province is very high risk (very high) of 8%, high risk (High) of 7%, and a moderate risk of (Medium) of 16%.

Barriers to risk management in small construction projects in Sri Lanka

PurposeThis study explores the current status of risk management (RM) in Sri Lanka and the obstacles in implementing RM in Sri Lankan small construction projects.Design/methodology/approachThe current research study adopted a quantitative research method. Using a purposeful sampling strategy, 100 construction companies engaged in small construction projects in Sri Lanka were selected and a questionnaire was distributed among top managerial employees of these companies. Employees belonging to 47 companies responded to the survey which provided information relating to 812 construction projects. The collected data were analyzed using the RM implementation index (RMII) and other quantitative measures such as mean, median and percentages.FindingsThe research findings indicated that RM incorporation was at a lower degree in small construction projects in Sri Lanka. The findings further indicated that RM incorporation was relatively high in the public construction projects compared to the private construction projects. The main obstacles identified through the survey for RM implementation were: “lack of funding”, “lack of time”, “low profit margin”, “not economical” and “lack of knowledge”.Research limitations/implicationsThe study was limited to exploring RM implementation in small construction projects in Sri Lanka. The study was limited to the building construction companies under the 150-million-rupee (approx. below 450,000 USD) financial limit registered with the construction industry development authority in Sri Lanka.Originality/valueRM in small construction projects in developing countries is a relatively less explored domain. Sri Lankan construction industry is another relatively less explored domain in terms of new management technique implementation such as RM and value management. The quantitative approach used for the study revealed that RM implementation is at a lower degree in the small construction projects. Moreover, several obstacles pertaining to RM implementation were recognized through this study. These findings will be useful for the construction stakeholders to overcome the recognized barriers and effectively use RM in their respective construction projects.
