Objective of the article is to systematize and analyze the historical development of the theoretical framework of sustainable development in the wood processing industry, as well as to identify key research directions and contemporary trends in this field. The relevance of the topic is driven by an expanding understanding of the impact of innovations, environmental sustainability, social responsibility, and energy security on the development of the wood processing industry, particularly in the Ukrainian context. The article employs a methodology that involves analyzing historical sources and literature, allowing for the systematization of the stages of development in the theory of sustainable forestry and wood processing industry. Additionally, the analysis of scientific works by foreign scholars is utilized to identify five key prospective research directions in the modern wood processing industry. The research results delineate four stages in the development of the theory: the first stage (17th–19th centuries) is marked by the emergence and definition of principles of sustainable forest use; the second stage (early to mid-20th century) involves addressing ecological issues and rational resource utilization; the third stage (late 20th century) is characterized by the formulation of the sustainable development concept and its impact on the industry; the fourth stage (21st century to present) sees a growing interest in innovations, circular economy, and green energy. The obtained results identify five main development directions for the modern wood processing industry: environmental sustainability and bioeconomics, innovations and Industry 4.0 implementation, circular and green economy, social responsibility and employment, and energy and raw material security. These directions reflect key challenges and opportunities for the industry, emphasizing the importance of implementing innovations, environmental and social responsibility, as well as ensuring energy and raw material security. The practical significance of the article lies in providing a comprehensive overview of the development of the theory of sustainable development in the wood processing industry, serving as a foundation for the development of management strategies and the implementation of innovations, fostering sustainable development and enhancing the industry’s competitiveness. The research results can serve as a basis for the development of programs and strategies for sustainable development in the wood processing industry at both national and international levels.

Fostering Sustainable Community-Based Tourism in Marine and Coastal Regions: Examining the Influence of Destination Social Responsibility on Environmentally Responsible Behavior, Mediated by Destination Image

The study aims to explores the impact of Destination Social Responsibility (DSR) and Destination Image (DI) on Environmentally Responsible Behaviour (ERB)-based tourism. This study collected data using the convenience sampling method, specifically through a survey administered to residents in a community of marine parks. Initially, a total of 300 questionnaires were distributed, resulting in the return of 200 completed surveys. After removing incomplete surveys, a total of 195 usable questionnaires have been included in the analysis.Given that the study employed composite measures and focused on predictive as well as explanatory purposes, the researchers utilized Partial Least Squares-Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM 4) to test the developed model. Moreover, the findings suggest that DSR positively influenced both ERB and DI. However, DI did not significantly impact ERB and did not act as a mediator between DSR as well as ERB. The findings show the local population’s involvement entails mitigating detrimental environmental impacts in coastal and marine areas.The local community, as a key stakeholder in a tourism destination, plays a significant role in promoting sustainable tourism growth in the area.The study offers valuable insights for destination management organizations as well as stakeholders in formulating environmental policies to promote sustainable development in Redang’s community.

The impact of social responsibility on organizational legitimacy

As part of the strategies that companies implement to stay current and comply with international guidelines is social responsibility. The objective of this research is to analyze the factors of social responsibility that lead to the construction of the organizational legitimacy of companies in Ciudad Obregón. The importance of this research focuses on verifying to what extent the social responsibility activities carried out by companies lead to legitimization. As part of the intellectual merit and the contribution that this research intends to make to knowledge is the quantitative measurement of the organizational legitimacy variable, this variable has been measured in studies that come from European countries, so it is intended to analyze the variable in this country. The research is non-experimental quantitative, cross-sectional correlational, the hypotheses of this study will be verified through the structural equation model (SEM). Among the findings identified, it is found that legitimacy is explained by 45% by the dimensions of social responsibility of socially responsible companies in Ciudad Obregón, identifying that the social activities they promote are the key factor for the perception of the legitimacy of said companies.

A study on Corporate Social Responsibility Impact and Financial Performance of NTPC Ltd

Building relationships with society is referred to as corporate social responsibility, and these relationships can be referred to as social relationships. This research focuses on corporate social responsibility (CSR) and how it affects NTPC Ltd.'s profitability in India. One company has been studied by the researcher. The study concluded that CSR had an impact on the company's profitability metrics, including ROTA and ROCE. The analysis is based on secondary data, specifically the company's five-year financial statements from 2013–2014 to 2017–2018. The study demonstrated a substantial inverse association between CSR and profitability, as measured by ROTA and ROCE, based on correlation and regression. The impact of supply chain social responsibility on sustainable performance

To achieve sustainable development and cope with growing socioenvironmental pressure, manufacturing companies are becoming increasingly committed to fulfilling their social responsibilities along the entire supply chain. However, it is still unclear whether fulfilling supply chain social responsibility can improve sustainable performance. On the basis of stakeholder theory and using structural equation modeling (SEM) and fuzzy set qualitative comparative analysis (fsQCA), this study explores the complex relationship between supply chain social responsibility and sustainable performance using data collected from 209 Chinese manufacturing companies. The SEM findings show that supply chain social responsibility can improve sustainable performance, while the fsQCA results suggest that the impact of supply chain social responsibility on sustainable performance depends on fulfillment methods. In particular, three supply chain social responsibility patterns can help achieve highly sustainable performance. However, these patterns significantly impact economic, environmental, and social performance in different ways. Our empirical study provides theoretical and practical guidance for companies to fulfill their supply chain social responsibilities.

Operation decision of competitive mining supply chain based on social responsibility.

The development of the green economy has significantly impact the traditional mining industry. Mining enterprises must invest in green technology to reduce the environmental pollution caused by flying dust and soil erosion and are subject to increased scrutiny to be socially responsible when conducting their business. To address this issue, we consider a competitive mining supply chain system consisting of two excavators and two exclusive retailers. Among them, the excavators have a certain sense of corporate social responsibility (CSR), that is, in addition to pursuing economic profits, they also consciously pay attention to the interests of consumers. We establish three different game models that two excavators exhibit no CSR behaviour (NN), two excavators exhibit CSR behaviour (SS) and one excavator exhibits CSR behaviour (SN). We examine the optimal decision-making strategies and analyse the impact of social responsibility. Analytical results show that the optimal strategies of mining supply chain are different under different supply chain structures. The optimal decisions of the mining supply chain members are the same in each case under the NN and SS models. In the SN model, the optimal decision strategy value of mining supply chain members is always greater than non-socially responsible supply chain members. In SS model, when the intensity of social responsibility competition is low, two excavators reduce the wholesale price, and retailers reduce the sales price; when the intensity of social responsibility competition is strong, two excavators will increase the wholesale price, and retailers will increase the sales price. These help to promote product sales and increase the profits of the supply chain system. In SN model, with the increase of social responsibility competition intensity, the wholesale price of two excavators and the sales price of retailers first increased and then decreased. Finally, numerical examples illustrated to justify the proposed model.

The effect of destination social responsibility on tourists’ pro-environmental behavior

ABSTRACT Based on two experimental studies, this paper explores the effect of different types of destination social responsibility on tourists’ pro-environmental behavior. In our theoretical framework, we test the mediating effect of place identity and the moderating effect of nature empathy. The results show that: (1) active destination social responsibility exerts greater power to stimulate tourists’ pro-environmental behavior; (2) place identity plays a mediating role between destination social responsibility and pro-environmental behavior; (3) nature empathy positively moderates the impact of destination social responsibility on place identity, but does not moderate the impact of destination social responsibility on pro-environmental behavior.

ESG dimensions and bank performance: an empirical investigation in Italy

PurposeThis study aims to investigate the impact of environmental performance, social responsibility and corporate governance (ESG) on bank performance (BP) in the Italian banking sector. It analyzes the relationships between 10 dimensions of ESG pillars and BP indicators during the period 2016–2020.Design/methodology/approachThis study examines a sample of 105 Italian banks and develops three econometric models to verify the effect of ESG initiatives on BP indicators. The independent variables are the ESG dimensions collected from the Refinitiv database, whereas the explanatory variables are performance indicators measured through accounting and market variables.FindingsThe findings show that ESG policies negatively affect operational and market performance in the banking sector, suggesting that Italian banks have not fully embraced strong sustainability procedures. However, the relationships between ESG dimensions are mixed if measured individually. The results show a significant positive impact of emission and waste reductions on financial and operating performance, but regarding social aspects, it is proved that better product responsibility decreases accounting performance.Research limitations/implicationsThis study offers an in-depth examination of ESG practices in relation to current and future performance. In particular, the findings provide practitioners and academics with an actual set of predictors in the ESG area to improve BP.Originality/valueTo the best of the authors’ knowledge, this is the only study that has investigated the impact of ESG issues on BP in Italy. Few prior studies have used all dimensions of ESG policies at a disaggregated level to investigate their effect on various performance indicators.

What makes the corporate social responsibility impact on Customer–Company identification stronger? A meta-analysis

Customer–company identification (CCI) has been highlighted as an important mechanism that explains the relationship between corporate social responsibility (CSR) and customer outcomes such as customer loyalty and word-of-mouth (WOM). However, findings on when and how this mechanism works are mixed. To uncover the viability and strength of CSR’s indirect effect on customer outcomes through CCI, we conduct a meta-analysis testing a moderated mediated framework. This analysis incorporates 237independent effect sizes from58,766 individuals and 86 papers to examine the indirect effect of CSR on customer loyalty and WOM through CCI, while simultaneously testing a range of substantive and control moderators. The results reveal that 1) CSR has a main effect on CCI, 2) CCI mediates the effect of CSR on customer loyalty and WOM, and 3) there are significant theoretical moderators that amplify and reduce CSR’s relationship with CCI. The paper’s year of publication and industry controversy (versus non-controversy) mitigate the relationship between CSR and CCI, while collectivism and a holistic focus augment it.

No Place for Pointless Jobs: How Social Responsibility Impacts Job Performance

We address the question of how organizations’ practices of social responsibility impact their employees’ job performance. Independent studies have shown that job performance is influenced by how employees perceive the organization they work for and how they perceive the work they perform for the organization. Moreover, studies on the relationship between social responsibility and job performance have shown that employees’ perceptions of their organization mediate the relationship. What is thus far neglected, however, is whether and how their perceptions of work itself mediate the relationship as well. We derive a sequential mediation model according to which social responsibility improves job performance by contributing to a supportive and trustworthy work context (employees’ perceptions of the organization they work for), in turn promoting work meaningfulness and engagement (employees’ perceptions of work itself). We collect survey data and test the sequential mediation model against a series of alternative models, each of which challenges a specific assumption of the proposed model. Our model provides the best tradeoff between the accuracy and the parsimony with which it describes the data collected, and is, therefore, expected to generalize best to other data.

How can social responsibility enhance the green value of financial enterprises? Empirical research based on the qualitative comparative analysis method

Given the high revenues of financial enterprises, they should carry out their social responsibilities to contribute to sustainable social and economic development. The purpose of this study is to provide a more efficient strategy for China’s listed financial enterprises to improve their green value under the condition of realizing the optimal allocation of their resources in the future. To this end, the present study adopts the fuzzy set qualitative comparative analysis method on 26 domestic listed banks to examine the impact of social responsibility undertaking on the improvement of the green values of enterprises. The findings show that the promotion of green values of listed financial enterprises in China does not simply depend on a one-dimension social responsibility investment but requires a combination of multiple dimensions. Accordingly, policy recommendations are provided to help ensure the long-term development of financial enterprises while achieving sustainable economic development.

Shaping Liquidity: On the Causal Effects of ESG Disclosure

As a core element of the capital market, stock liquidity has always been valued by all stakeholders of enterprises. As the market mechanism becomes more complex and the degree of information asymmetry intensifies, information disclosure plays a vital role in various economic activities. From the perspective of investor confidence, this paper studies the internal mechanism and action paths of ESG information disclosure, investor confidence and stock liquidity. Through the sub-analysis of ESG rating scores, the impact of environment, social responsibility and corporate governance on corporate stock liquidity is studied. The results show that :(1) ESG information disclosure has a positive driving effect on corporate liquidity, and investor confidence partially mediates the relationship between ESG information disclosure and liquidity. (2) Through the sub-research of ESG information disclosure, it is found that the rating scores of environment (E) and social responsibility (S) have a significant impact on stock liquidity, while the information disclosure at the level of corporate governance (G) has no significant impact on liquidity. (3) Heterogeneity analysis shows that ESG disclosure has a more significant impact on stock liquidity for companies whose auditors are not from the Big Four accounting firms than for companies whose auditors are from the Big Four accounting firms.

Social Responsibility and Value in enterprises and companies

The purpose of this study is to discuss the impact of social responsibility on the company's value. Taking Xiaomi Company as a case, the research objects are decision-making level, management level and grass-roots employees by questionnaire survey. The sampling method is purposive sampling. 125 groups of samples (decision-making level and management level) and 623 groups of samples (grass-roots employees) are sampled. Hierarchical model (HLM) and hierarchical regression are used to analyze the positive impact of different levels of employees on social responsibility on the company's value and verify it.

The Role of Social Responsibility and Ethics in Employees' Wellbeing.

Social responsibility (SR) is a concept or practice by which organizations take into account the interest of society by taking responsibility for the impact of their activities on all stakeholders. The SR of organizations implies ethical behavior concerning all stakeholders and a company’s commitment to the sustainable economic development of society. Organizational ethics is a set of written and unwritten codes of principles and values that govern decisions and actions within an organization. Ethics has a rather internal perspective, while social responsibility has a rather external perspective. This study examines the impact of social responsibility and organizational ethics on employees’ wellbeing. To perform the empirical analysis, we conducted a survey among 423 employees from Romanian organizations. Using the structural equation modeling, we analyzed the relationships between social responsibility, organizational ethics, and employees’ wellbeing, emphasizing the positive impact of ethical and responsible behavior of the organization on the employees’ wellbeing. The organization’s employees play a dual role: firstly, they are all internal stakeholders, and secondly, they are constituents of an external stakeholder essential for the organization—the community. The results show a significant positive influence of social responsibility and organizational ethics on employees’ wellbeing as a result of a responsible and ethical behavior in relation to the organizational stakeholders.

Impact of Corporate Social Responsibility on Internally Displaced Persons in North-East, Nigeria

Corporate Social Responsibility and its proper implementation entail that organizations are not just driven by the quest for economic gain or a good reputation, but that they are deliberate with positively affecting the lives of the members of their host communities. The study investigated the Impact of Corporate Social Responsibility on Internally Displaced Persons in North-East, Nigeria. Also other objectives includes to examine the impact of social responsibility on Internally Displaced Children in North East, Nigeria, and to evaluate the impact of economic responsibility on internally displaced elderly persons in North East. The researcher adopted the cross sectional research design and structured questionnaire was used as instrument for data collection. The simple random sampling technique was adopted in the study. Data analysis was committed to descriptive statistics of mean and percentages as well as correlation and regression analysis. The results showed that Social responsibility does have positive impact on Internally Displaced Children in North East, Nigeria; Economic responsibility does have positive impact on internally displaced elderly persons in North East, Nigeria. The study concludes corporate social responsibility has emerged as a form of sustainability governance with advantages to the economic, environment and social progress of the Internally Displaced Person’s at 5% level of significance. It was recommended that corporate social responsibility of the companies should be more environmentally demanded rather than Marjory from angle of ethical consideration and philanthropic obligations.

The impact of social responsibility on corporate financial performance in the energy sector: Evidence from Lithuania

AbstractClimate change and sustainable development challenges have significant impact on business strategies. Corporate social responsibility (CSR) is becoming more and more integral to a business's strategy, its values, and its daily life cycle. Energy sector is under increasing pressure from society due to its huge environmental footprint and social importance. As environmental expectations increase, the energy sector must adapt to this, taking into account social‐environmental issues and finding new solutions, which will undoubtedly have an impact on its financial performance. There are limited number of studies dealing with the impact of CSR initiatives on financial performance of energy companies. The paper aims to examine the impact of CSR activities on companies' financial performance in the Lithuanian energy sector. The new method of CSR performance assessment of energy companies was developed and applied in this case study. The relevant financial performance indicators were selected to measure the impact of CSR on financial performance of energy companies. The results of the study, which examined nine Lithuanian energy companies, showed the dominating neutral relationship between CSR and financial performance during 2017–2020 period.

Research on the Impact of Social Responsibility of Foreign-funded Enterprises in China on Profitability

This article uses the “China Corporate Social Responsibility Research Report” issued by the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, and selects 36 Chinese foreign-funded enterprises that have been continuously selected as the top 100 Chinese foreign-funded enterprises during the ten years from 2009 to 2018. The impact of social responsibility on profitability. The research results show that under the condition of controlling the influence of enterprise scale, corporate social responsibility has a positive effect on profitability. Suggestions are made for this: enterprises should establish a sound information disclosure system, countries and regions should strengthen the construction of a socially responsible environment, and enterprises and governments should establish a good communication mechanism.

Corporate social responsibility and financial performance: The case in Vietnam

This study aims to examine the impact of corporate social responsibility (CSR) on the financial performance of Vietnamese listed companies from 2012 to 2017. The study uses Fixed effects model and System Generalized Method of Moments to estimate models. The study contributes by analyzing the impact of social responsibility under three perspectives, namely economic, environmental and social responsibility in a developing country’s setting. The results suggest that overall CSR disclosure has a negative impact on firm performance, but the perspectives provide a more complete view: environmental responsibility shows a clear negative influence, while social responsibility demonstrates a preferable but weak impact on financial performance. The economic aspect does not show a significant effect on firm performance. The most burdensome category of CSR is the environment-related one, which calls for more careful employment of this investment and governmental support to ensure that it is more efficient.
