ИННОВАЦИИ КАК ФАКТОР, ОПРЕДЕЛЯЮЩИЙ РЫНОЧНУЮ СТОИМОСТЬ ПУБЛИЧНЫХ КОМПАНИЙ

The article examines the impact of innova-tions carried out by companies on the price of their shares. Both large and small devel-oping companies represented on the stock market. The impact of innovation activity on their development will vary depending on the commercial potential of new developments and the feasibility of their introduction into circulation. The value is also affected by the capitalization of the company, the volume of the stock market on which it is represented and the risks for the company in the event of failure to develop an innovation. The price of shares of small companies with no revenue reacts significantly more to both positive and negative news regarding the success of in-novative activities. While large companies, through the diversification of innovative pro-jects, achieve price stability and the impact of innovation on their cost is significant only in some cases.

THE INNOVATION PARADOX IN THE SERBIAN ECONOMY: THE GRANGER CAUSALITY APPROACH

Innovations, as the applications of new ideas, solutions and technological practices that improve goods, services and business processes, are the most important driver of economic progress. They lead to greater productivity and efficiency, and therefore to better economic results. The purpose of this article is to examine the state, interrelation and the impact of innovative activities on the economic growth of Serbia. The paper first uses standard multiple regression and concludes that in the period from 2004 to 2020, the number of registered patents did not contribute, while the gross expenditures for research and development (GERD) contributed positively and significantly to the growth of the Serbian GDP. Therefore, it can be said that Serbia is facing a kind of innovation paradox, since the growth of allocations coexists with a dramatic decrease in the number of registered patents. Its second part is based on the construction of the corresponding Vector autoregressive VAR(1) model that traces the causal relationship between GERD and the economic growth of Serbia in the period from 1997 to 2020. It follows that while GERD does not cause GDP in the Granger sense, the GDP causes GERD allocations for innovative activities in Serbia. The scientific research work in Serbia is not efficient and effective enough because it draws funds from the GDP, but does not meet expectations and does not produce tangible results, especially in the expected number of registered patents. Therefore, it is necessary to build an appropriate incentive environment that would stimulate more adequately and value new innovative ventures.

Esta investigación buscó demostrar la validez del uso de la herramienta de aprendizaje automático LASSO considerando nueve actividades de innovación y datos de la encuesta del Ministerio de la Producción del Perú, de modo que se pueda explicar el desempeño empresarial de las empresas peruanas localizadas en el área urbana de Lima y Callao. Se aplicó LASSO e identificó las variables más importantes, luego se realizaron regresiones de tipo Logit seleccionando aquellas que tuvieran respaldo en la teoría; finalmente, se comprobó que las variables que incrementan la probabilidad de mejora en las ventas son tres: (a) actividades de innovación en bienes de capital, (b) marketing, y (c) activos intangibles.

Impact of innovative activity on the economic security of the enterprise

The article deals with issues related to the assessment of the economic security level taking into account the innovative activity of the enterprise. The relevance of the problem of increasing the degree of economic entities protection in modern conditions with high competition is reflected. The main components that form the economic security of the organization are listed, and their brief characteristics are given. Besides, the article presents the author's step-by-step procedure for assessing the economic security level. Special attention is paid to the impact of effective innovation on the economic security level of the enterprise. The mathematical calculation for determining the economic security level is shown in more detail on the example of the technical and technological direction of the enterprise, which involves active innovation. The resulting calculations prove the high impact of successful innovations on the economic security of an economic entity due to the priority of this area of activity, as well as the possibility of extracting a significant share of profit. Thus, the article proves the statement about the feasibility of evaluating the innovative potential of the enterprise, as well as analyzing the level of its compliance with the requirements of external and internal environments.

Innovation and productivity: the case of Nordic countries

Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, and Sweden form a group of the Nordic countries, considered welfare states and the global leaders in innovative development. The link between the growth rate of total factor productivity and innovative development, controlling such factors as trade openness and prices volatility in commodity markets, is examined. The econometric analysis results show that the relationship between the level of innovative development and the rate of productivity growth is more robust for the Nordic countries than for the EU countries on average. Features of the national innovation systems and financing of RD in the Nordic countries and factors contributing to the impact of innovation activity on productivity are highlighted.

The innovative component of the agricultural sector also plays an important role in solving the country’s food security. The article considers the basics of the development of innovative activity of agro-industrial enterprises and the impact of innovative activity in the agro-industrial complex on the country food security. Obstacles are analyzed and priority directions of innovative development of agro-industrial enterprises are reflected.

This article analyzes the impact of innovation activity of countries (Great Britain, China and Russia). Accurate calculations are carried out with regard to the indicators of the rating positioning of these countries. It is expected to give a clear interpretation of the results obtained, to compare the trends in the indicators of Russia with the countries of Great Britain and China. The entry of national economies into the phase of globalization is characterized, in particular, by increased market activity and increased competition between all subjects of market relations. The basis of the latter is, first, leadership in innovation and the use of scientific, technical and technological developments to maintain a leading position.

Impact of innovative activity of organizations on the development of pharmaceutical industry: a case study

Тhe article proposes a new methodological approach to the study and evaluation of external factors affecting innovation activity. External factors were estimated, a correlation model was built, and key factors affecting innovation activity and susceptibility to innovation of Russian companies were identified. A regression model reflecting the dependence of the level of innovation activity of Russian companies on changes in environmental factors in the dynamics from 2006 to 2016 was constructed. The study was conducted on the basis of statistical data on the development of the pharmaceutical industry as one of the high-tech industries of the Russian industry. The study confirmed and measured the relationship between the macro factors of development of the Russian pharmaceutical industry and the volume of its production. This study is an occasion to discuss and further study the development of sound recommendations to change or improve the state industrial policy. Directions of further researches are connected with a deeper study of the causes of interrelation of volume of output and macroeconomic factors, as well as with the assessment of the temporal distribution of the macroeconomic consequences of purposeful influence on the magnitude of the factors considered.

Innovation and Firm-level Labour Productivity: A Comparison of Chinese and Indian Manufacturing Based on Enterprise Surveys

This article examines the impact of innovation on labour productivity by using latest World Bank Enterprise Surveys data and compares the results between Chinese and Indian manufacturing sector. The article uses cross-section data based on two surveys that were conducted by the World Bank in 2012 and 2014 for China and India, respectively. By employing simple ordinary least squares (OLS) regression technique, we find that innovation affects the labour productivity positively for Chinese as well as Indian manufacturing firms, but its impact on firm productivity is relatively weak in case of India as compared to China. Second, other factors such as average wage of the workers, education of production workers and training do significantly boost the labour productivity of Chinese manufacturing firms as well as for Indian firms. Third, our results based on firm size also indicate that the impact of innovation activities on labour productivity is higher in case of large firms as compared to medium firms. However, innovation does not affect the labour productivity of small manufacturing firms for both China and India. In terms of policy, it is important for both Chinese and Indian manufacturing firms to keep pursuing innovation activities, in order to spur productivity, which would strengthen firms’ growth.

The concept of enterprise innovativeness is complex and multifaceted. This necessitates the use of a multi-indicator approach to assessing the level of innovativeness of firms. The assessment indicators of innovativeness of enterprises was systematized. The indicators characterizing the impact of innovative activity of enterprises on economic performance of its functionality was proposed.

Assessing the Impact of Innovation Activity on Mining Industry Results

The role of the mining industry in the world economy is enormous, since its branches are the most important source of industrial raw materials, without which the intensive growth of modern industry would be completely impossible. However, the technologies used in it are not always innovative. Despite the fact that the mining industry occupies a fairly small percentage in the structure of the world economy and does not exceed 10%, it is an important source of income for many states, including Russia. However, the changes that are now observed in the global economy require new approaches to organizing activities. Despite its profitability, this industry is quite difficult to manage. The way from the extraction of raw materials to their end user is very complicated and depends on many conditions. For the successful integration of the Russian mining industry into new economic realities, it is necessary to intensify innovative processes by investing financial resources in new equipment and high technology. At the same time, acceleration of the development of the mining industry can be achieved in the chain “mining industry - processing industry” through the introduction and use of nanotechnology, which can significantly improve the quality of raw materials.

How Does Innovation Activity Affect Firm Export Behavior? Evidence from China

ABSTRACTInnovation activity largely determines how efficiently products of a firm match the preference of foreign consumers, and in turn significantly affects firm export behavior. This article sheds light on how innovation activity affects firm export behavior from the perspective of the dual export margins. The results from the theoretical analyses show that firm innovation activity promotes the expansion of an extensive export margin while having an ambiguous impact on the expansion of intensive export margin. Using micro-level data from Chinese manufacturing firms, we conclude that our empirical results are roughly in line with the theoretical propositions. In addition, the impact of innovation activity on the intensive export margin is significantly negative for China’s manufacturing firms. Furthermore, the effects of innovation activity on the dual export margins are significantly different among firms with differentiated characteristics, on which we also present some explanations to generate insights of the empirical results. The findings are robust to the alterative indicator for innovation or different estimation models.

Atividades inovativas em parques tecnológicos: Um estudo comparativo no Nordeste brasileiro

Innovation is crucial for organizations to ensure their survival and development. Technology parks are environments that promote the culture of innovation and the increase of entrepreneurial capacity, based on the transfer of knowledge and technology. This article aims to characterize the technology parks in the Northeast region of Brazil, to describe the main products developed and to do a comparative investigation of the impact of the innovative activities developed by these institutions. To operate the research, which has a descriptive nature, it was used as a data collection instrument the semi-structured questionnaire, applied to the representatives of each technology park approached. The results showed that the majority are in search of structural conformation, implanting the necessary elements to the activities inherent to the technological parks. As for the impact of innovative activities, most of the items covered were considered of high and medium relevance by the largest number of parks.

Exploration/exploitation innovation and firm performance: the mediation of entrepreneurial orientation and moderation of competitive intensity

PurposeAlthough many scholars have found that exploration and exploitation innovation have significantly positive effects on firm performance, it remains to be resolved whether the relationship between the two is still established at different stages of enterprise development and in different competitive contexts. This paper aims to clarify the effect of exploration/exploitation innovation on firm performance in start-ups, and in particular, the mediation role of entrepreneurial orientation (EO) and the moderation role of competitive intensity are tested to explore their disturbing effects on above relationship.Design/methodology/approachThe authors construct a theoretical framework to analyze and verify the relationship between innovation, EO and firm performance. The hypotheses of this paper are put forward by theoretical inference. In addition to test the hypotheses, 143 questionnaires are collected from technology-oriented start-ups in Hefei National University Science Park.FindingsThe empirical results show that consistent with previous findings, exploration innovation and exploitation innovation both have positive impact on firm performance; meanwhile, the EO partially mediates the relationship between both innovations and firm performance. What cannot be ignored is that the competition intensity plays a moderation role between EO and firm performance.Originality/valueThe findings reveal that the impact of innovation activities on corporate performance has been disrupted by EO and competition intensity in start-ups. The work of this paper deepens the understanding of the relationship between innovation, EO, external environment and firm performance, which is of guiding significance to the entrepreneurship management of emerging economies.

Understanding the heterogeneity of innovation modes: Performance effects, barriers, and demand for state support

This study explores the potential of the innovation modes, a firm-level taxonomy of innovation behavior, to provide a reasonable treatment for the growing complexity and multidimensionality of company strategies, incentives, and demands. The data on the Russian manufacturing enterprises from two complementary surveys are used to estimate broader features of the firms pursuing particular innovation modes, including the intensity, efficiency, and impact of innovation activities, the importance of factors, hampering the performance and the heterogeneity of demand for the policy support measures. Resulting composition of the firm-level patterns and characteristics brings new facilities for the diagnosis-based policy-making in the field of innovation.

Innovations as a Necessary Factor of Resource Potential of Social and Economic Systems Development

The article reviews an impact of innovation activity of the territories on the basis of the available resource potential by the introduction of resource-saving technologies. A correlation analysis of the relationship between gross domestic product and energy consumption has been carried out. A practice of a some countries on energy intensity reduction has been analyzed. A cluster analysis of the energy sector in a some countries was been completed.

The effects of innovation on firm performance of supporting industries in Hanoi, Vietnam

Purpose: Innovation, including product, process, marketing, and organizational innovation within a firm, is considered as one of essential component for surviving and growing. These innovation activities create value and competitive advantages for successful organizations; therefore, understanding the organization’s overall innovation is the first and foremost to understand the role of innovation on firm performance. The objective of this research is to explore two parts: the impacts of innovation on the different aspect of innovation performance, then their effects to firm performance (production, market, and financial performance).Design/methodology/approach: This study uses primary data from questionnaire survey. The questionnaire involves 4 parts including general information, innovation activities; innovative performance, and firm performance. This research focuses on firms in supporting industries of mechanics, electronics, motorbike and automobile. These firms are in a list of companies (known as The Excellent Vietnamese Companies in Northern and Central Vietnam) established by JETRO and VCCI. There are 150 firms in this list. The questionnaire survey was administered to directors, CEO of those firms during April and May, 2014. Out of the 150 questionnaires sent out, 118 were valid, accounting for 78.7% of the true response rate. Analysis methodologies of reliability, factor analysis and regression are utilized in this paper.Findings: The result demonstrated there are positive effects of process, marketing, and organizational innovations on firm performance in supporting firms. More specifically, the higher the level of innovation activities is, the greater the innovative performance is, which means the larger level of Process, organization and marketing innovation activities are, the higher level of innovative performance are likely to be. Secondly, the higher level of Process, organization and marketing innovative performance, the better level of firm performances is likely to be. To sum up, in order to improve the innovative and firm performance, those firms in supporting industry should highly concentrate on process, marketing, and organizational innovation activities, rather than product innovation activities.Originality/value: Initially, this study applies successfully the model which supposing innovation is a process, then clarifying innovation definition through the impact of innovation activities on innovative performances. Secondly, this research confirmed the positive impact of innovative performances on firm performances. It provided one more empirical evidence of the relationship between innovation and firm performance. For practitioners, organizational innovation and process innovation are more important factors affecting innovative performance and firm performance than product and marketing innovation. Therefore, enterprises should focus and mobilize resources to create improvement in organizational structure and manufacturing processes.

INNOVATION AND GROWTH IN THE CITY REGION: MICROECONOMIC EVIDENCE OF ASYMMETRIES

Using a micro-economic perspective, this study explores the type, scale and impact of innovation activities that small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) undertake with focus on the sub-national level. Based on a representative sample of 250 independent SMEs, based in the Leeds City Region (LCR) and using quantitative methods, this study provides evidence of the types of innovation that are most likely to result in achieving policy aims associated with for example the development of international markets or growth of employment opportunities. The findings show that there is a need for aligning business support for innovation with human capital (education/training) interventions. Furthermore, the findings provide a strong evidence base, at the local level, to inform the development of innovation policy and illustrate the connections between different types of innovation SMEs’ growth at regional level.
