Impact of Digital Storytelling on Improving Brand Image Among Consumers

Prior literature has shown that brands can use digital storytelling (DST) to reduce uncertainty among consumers and thus increase sales. As such, it is important to understand the elements of storytelling and its role in marketing a product. Extant studies have not explored the elements of DST in terms of the technological convenience of the consumer. This study, therefore, examines the mediating impact of DST elements through factors such as perceived efficiency, social interaction, effort expectancy, and facilitating conditions. The Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT) model was employed as a theoretical base for the study. A sample of 305 respondents who had made an online purchase were shown a digital story of a known brand. The results indicate that the elements of storytelling significantly impact the factors of the UTAUT model. Further, these factors mediate the relationship between DST and two dependent variables (behavioral intention and perceived brand image).

Impact of Digital Storytelling on Motivation in Middle School English Classrooms

Motivation is a key factor in the learning process, especially in language acquisition. This research examines the effects of using digital storytelling (DST) on motivation in English classrooms. The study, which used a mixed methods approach, involved 100 middle school students in Bengaluru selected through convenience sampling. Data collection methods included questionnaires and semi-structured interviews. Students were divided into experimental and control groups, with the former receiving DST-integrated instruction and the latter being taught using traditional methods. The results of the quantitative analysis showed a positive influence on motivation in the experimental group compared to the control group. Qualitative results showed that implementing DST increased students' motivation, engagement, and understanding of the English language more effectively than traditional teaching methods. Further research is encouraged to explore the full potential of DST to improve student language skills and motivation.

هدفت الدراسة إلى قياس أثر رواية القصة الرقمية على الدافعية والتحصيل الدراسي في تدريس المفاهيم العلمية لدى أطفال مرحلة ما قبل المدرسة، وتم الاعتماد على التصميم شبه التجريبي لتحقيق أهداف هذه الدراسة، وتكونت عينة البحث من (40) طفلاً من مرحلة ما قبل المدرسة، حيث تكونت كل مجموعة من (20) طفلًا، وتم اختيار العينة عشوائيًا، وتحديدًا (العينة العشوائية المنتظمة)، وقامت الباحثة بتصميم رواية القصة الرقمية في مرحلة المعالجة التجريبية، وذلك بعد أن قامت باختيار أحد المفاهيم العلمية من المنهج الوطني لمرحلة ما قبل المدرسة، وأسفرت النتائج عن وجود فرق في التحصيل الدراسي بين الاختبار القبلي والبعدي، لصالح المجموعة التجريبية، وهذا يدل على الأثر الفاعل لاستخدام رواية القصة الرقمية في تدريس المفاهيم العلمية لهذه المرحلة، كما تم تطبيق مقياس الدافعية لعينة البحث، والتي أسفرت نتائجها إلى ارتفاع مستوى الدافعية لتعلُّم المفاهيم العلمية بعد استخدام رواية القصص الرقمية لتقديم هذه المفاهيم العلمية، وهذا يدل على فاعلية هذه الطريقة في جذب انتباه الأطفال وزيادة تركيزهم ودافعيتهم، وإعطاء المعنى لهذه المفاهيم العلمية.

Native American youth finding self through digital story telling

AbstractThis holistic single‐case study aimed to understand the impact of digital story telling (DST) on the identity expressions of Native American youth. The question that guided the study asks, ‘How do Native American adolescents in a rural, tribal‐run after‐school programme for Indigenous youth explore and express who they are through digital story telling?’ Five Indigenous youth enrolled in a tribal‐run after‐school programme participated in the study and completed a digital story telling project that contained multiple components and interviews. Data sources included funds of knowledge maps, shields, story scripts, storyboards, interview transcripts, and digital videos. Thematic analysis was the overarching method used to identify themes. The researchers also conducted constant comparison, content analysis, and/or intertextual transcription to analyse specific data types. Findings indicate the youth enjoyed the DST process, explored and solidified their personal identities, and discovered personal strength. The findings also suggest that DST enabled the youth to draw upon cultural knowledges, literacies, and personal experiences to establish their identities and make sense of the world around them. Furthermore, findings reveal the continued presence of racism in society and schools and the need to transform schools into sites that embrace and support Indigenous knowledges, languages, literacies, and identity development of Indigenous students.

Digital online Learning by Using Digital Storytelling for Pre-Service Teacher Students

The purpose of this research discusses 1) to design a Digital storytelling in online learning, 2) to study the implementation of teaching English by using digital storytelling, and 3) to find out the practicality of digital storytelling for pre-service teacher students. This research is using design based research development model developed by Alessi and Trollip (2001) which consists of three stages, first stage is Planning, second stage is Design, and third is Development which focuses on designing digital storytelling to find more about the impact of digital storytelling as an online learning media process for English teaching material. The sample was 180 junior high students to get the need analysis data, 8 pre-service teacher students implemented the digital storytelling in the online classroom and two evaluators to access the appropriateness of digital storytelling to be used by pre-service teachers. As it is found in this research that designing digital storytelling showed practically on how a digital storytelling was designed, developed and applied in English class. The implementation of digital storytelling was successfully done by the pre-service students and the appropriateness was high which can be used in online teaching process.

DIGITAL STORYTELLING AS A TEACHING METHOD IN ADULT EDUCATION - THE CORRELATION BETWEEN ITS EFFECTIVENESS AND WORKING MEMORY

<p>In recent years, technology has been growing rapidly. The impact that Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and associated teaching tools have on the learning process is already significant, and this is expected to grow further in the future. Digital Storytelling (DST) is a combination of interaction and learning at the same time and it could prove to be an excellent teaching method at the disposal of the educator. The present study is an attempt to examine the impact of the method in adult education, providing that the learners are the creators of digital stories. In addition, the current research is an attempt to examine the relationship between learners’ Working Memory and the impact of DST on their learning performance. The research has been conducted in a public vocational training institute. The findings revealed that DST is an effective learning tool in adult education that can improve learners’ performance. The use of digital storytelling of patients\u2019 stories as an approach to translating knowledge: a scoping review

BackgroundA growing interest has centered on digital storytelling in health research, described as a multi-media presentation of a story using technology. The use of digital storytelling in knowledge translation (KT) is emerging as technology advances in healthcare to address the challenging tasks of disseminating and transferring knowledge to key stakeholders. We conducted a scoping review of the literature available on the use of patient digital storytelling as a tool in KT interventions.MethodsWe followed by Arksey and O’Malley (Int J Soc Res Methodol 8(1):19–32, 2005), and Levac et al. (Implement Sci 5(1):69, 2010) recommended steps for scoping reviews. Search strategies were conducted for electronic databases (Medline, CINAHL, Web of Science, ProQuest dissertations and theses global, Clinicaltrials.gov and Psychinfo). The Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses extension for scoping reviews (PRISMA-ScR) was used to report the review process.ResultsOf 4656 citations retrieved, 114 full texts were reviewed, and twenty-one articles included in the review. Included studies were from nine countries and focused on an array of physical and mental health conditions. A broad range of interpretations of digital storytelling and a variety of KT interventions were identified. Digital storytelling was predominately defined as a story in multi-media form, presented as a video, for selective or public viewing and used as educational material for healthcare professionals, patients and families.ConclusionUsing digital storytelling as a tool in KT interventions can contribute to shared decision-making in healthcare and increase awareness in patients’ health related experiences. Concerns centered on the accuracy and reliability of some of the information available online and the impact of digital storytelling on knowledge action and implementation.

The Effectiveness of Digital Storytelling on Self-Management of Diabetes Mellitus Patients: A Systematic Review

The global prevalence of diabetes in adults has increased over the last few decades. This study aimed to identify and analyze scientific evidence on the effectiveness of digital storytelling on the self-management of diabetes mellitus patients. Method: This systematic review is based on the PRISMA checklist. Literature search via PubMed, Google Scholar, DOAJ, ScienceDirect, Cochrane, and Wiley. Structured research questions used the PICO electronic method (patient, intervention, comparison, and outcome). There are three different models of digital storytelling intervention, namely, using videos, slide shows, and photovoice. From a total of 581 respondents who were studied, the most frequently used digital storytelling content was diabetes self-management such as drug management, glucose self-monitoring, physical activity, and nutrition. The effects of digital storytelling found were a description of the patient's experience after being given digital storytelling intervention. The impact of digital storytelling on cognitive, affective, patient skills related to their illness, the effect of digital storytelling on psychological aspects (self-efficacy, self-confidence, self-awareness, and motivation), to storytelling. An alternative educational strategy for patient groups who have low health literacy and older age groups. Conclusion: There are three models for implementing digital storytelling intervention, namely digital storytelling using video, digital storytelling using slide shows, and digital storytelling using the photovoice technique with Instagram modification. For this reason, Further research Needs to examine the digital storytelling intervention found in this review for self-management of DM patients.

"Abstract: In Romania, the curriculum for mother tongue education for grade three and four of primary school defines spoken and written text production in various communication situations as a general educational requirement and competence. (see the curriculum for competence-based teaching of the mother tongue approved by Ministerial Decree No. 5003 of 4 December 2014. Hungarian Language and Literature, grade three and four). This experimental study examines the impact of digital storytelling on children’s text production skills. Our aim was to design an interventionprogramme that develops primary school children’s selfexpression, text production skills, creativity but also their digital competencies. The goal is to use digital storytelling to develop children’s composition skills, including staying on the subject, creating the connection between title and content, spelling, text appearance, and reaching the desired length. In order to achieve our objective, we devised experiments involving two cohorts of children in year four of primary school who were given stories selected from Angi Máté’s book Volt egyszer egy… (Once upon a time there was a…). Using these stories as a starting point, the members of the both groups created their own stories, the experimental group applying digital storytelling, while the control group applied the technique of collage."

The Impact of Digital Storytelling on Social Agency: Early Experience at an Online University

ABSTRACT ‘Digital Storytelling’ is a term often used to refer to a number of different types of digital narrative including web-based stories, hypertexts, videoblogs and computer games. This emergent form of creative work has found an outlet in a wide variety of different domains ranging from community social history, to cookbooks, to the classroom. It is the latter domain that provides the focus for this paper, specifically the online classroom at the tertiary level. The first step in the experiment was to train faculty in the art of digital story creation. After sharing these stories with students as part of the standard “Introduce Yourself” discussion board activity, the next step was to encourage students to reciprocate by producing their own stories. The third and final step in the experiment was to use digital storytelling as the vehicle for the submission of team assignments. Early feedback from students suggests that listening to and telling ‘true stories’ was a compelling and emotionally-engaging experience, providing an opportunity for ‘transformative reflection’ (Lambert 2000). By including multimedia, learners were able to build upon the fundamentals, presenting content in an easy-to-absorb and compelling way. In terms of team assignments students learned to become more effective actors in collaborative work environments. The authors conclude that as—in the majority of societies from earliest recorded times —people are ‘hard wired’ both to tell and to listen to stories from a very young age and, significantly, to remember stories, the scope for deep learning using this particular pedagogical tool is considerable.

This paper presents a part of a study on the teaching of narrative writing by incorporating Digital Storytelling. Writing skill is an essential component in mastering English because it incorporates all elements in English. By integrating technology in the learning process, students would be able to improve their writing skill. In Malaysia, students’ performance in examination has declined in recent years since the marks are based mostly on students’ writing. This research aims to know the impact of Digital Storytelling towards Malaysian secondary school students by investigating its impact on content, grammar, vocabulary and overall performance. It also explores students' perception of Digital Storytelling. This quasi-experimental study involved 52 Form four students from a fully-residential school in Melaka who were chosen using convenient sampling as part of the controlled and experimental groups. Data were collected from pre-tests, post-tests and a semi-structured interview. The quantitative data were analyzed using mean analysis, Wilcoxon Signed Tank Test and Independent t-Test while qualitative data were analyzed using thematic analysis. Findings show that there is a significant difference in the score before and after the intervention but there is no significant difference between the score of the experimental group and the controlled group. Participants stated that DS motivates them to write and improves their writing. It is hoped that this study would provide an alternative to teaching narrative writing and adds to the current pool of literature. It is suggested for future researchers to conduct purposive sampling which could yield different results.

Digital storytelling in health professions education: a systematic review

BackgroundDigital stories are short videos that combine stand-alone and first-person narratives with multimedia. This systematic review examined the contexts and purposes for using digital storytelling in health professions education (HPE) as well as its impact on health professionals’ learning and behaviours.MethodsWe focused on the results of HPE studies gleaned from a larger systematic review that explored digital storytelling in healthcare and HPE. In December 2016, we searched MEDLINE, EMBASE, PsycINFO, CINAHL, and ERIC. We included all English-language studies on digital storytelling that reported at least one outcome from Levels 2 (learning) or 3 (behaviour) of The New World Kirkpatrick Model. Two reviewers independently screened articles for inclusion and extracted data.ResultsThe comprehensive search (i.e., digital storytelling in healthcare and HPE) resulted in 1486 unique titles/abstracts. Of these, 153 were eligible for full review and 42 pertained to HPE. Sixteen HPE articles were suitable for data extraction; 14 focused on health professionals’ learning and two investigated health professionals’ learning as well as their behaviour changes. Half represented the undergraduate nursing context. The purposes for using digital storytelling were eclectic. The co-creation of patients’ digital stories with health professionals as well as the creation and use of health professionals’ own digital stories enhanced learning. Patients’ digital stories alone had minimal impact on health professionals’ learning.ConclusionsThis review highlights the need for high-quality research on the impact of digital storytelling in HPE, especially on health professionals’ behaviours.PROSPERO registration numberCRD42016050271.

The effectiveness of digital storytelling in the classrooms: a comprehensive study

In recent years the use of new technologies in educational systems has increased worldwide as digital cameras, personal computers, scanners, and easy-to-use software have become available to educators to harness the digital world. The impact of new technologies in educational contexts has been mostly positive as new technologies have given educators the opportunity to enhance their knowledge, skills, and therefore enhance the standard of education. Researchers have found that student engagement, achievement and motivation are enhanced through integration of such technologies. However, education systems still face many challenges: one of these challenges is how to enhance student engagement to provide better educational outcomes. It has become increasingly important to use innovative pedagogical models to engage learners. Digital storytelling is one of the innovative pedagogical approaches that can engage students in deep and meaningful learning. This research project aimed to create a constructivist learning environment with digital storytelling. The research investigated the pedagogical aspects of digital storytelling and the impact of digital storytelling on student learning when teachers and students use digital stories. A multi-site case study was conducted in one Australian school at primary and secondary levels. In selected classrooms, students and teachers had the opportunity to engage in innovative learning experiences based on digital storytelling. In order to enhance the reliability and validity of the research, multiple methods of data collection and analysis were used. Data was collected with qualitative and quantitative methods. An evaluation rubric was used to collect quantitative data, while interviews and observation were used to collect qualitative data. Data collection was guided by a mixed methods research design in order to evaluate if and how digital storytelling enhances teaching and learning outcomes. The findings from this study suggest that digital storytelling is a powerful tool to integrate instructional messages with learning activities to create more engaging and exciting learning environments. It is a meaningful approach for creating a constructivist learning environment based on novel principles of teaching and learning. Thus, this approach has the potential to enhance student engagement and provide better educational outcomes for learners.

The impact of digital story-telling on trait Emotional Intelligence (EI) amongst adolescents in South Africa – a case study

Introduction High trait EI is positively correlated with leadership abilities, autonomy and with core experiences of feelings of collaboration, of community. Adolescents, who are constantly exposed to local and global peer pressure via their participation in Web 2.0 social networking activities seek approbation and advice from their peers rather than their parents yet still experience feelings of alienation and a lack of connection. Can teachers harness the same Web 2.0 to positively influence trait EI? This study aims to investigate the impact of self-developed versus other-person-developed digital stories on emotional intelligence in learners, Durban, South Africa. Methods Four classes each of Grade 9's and Grade 10's have been recruited into the study. Experimental groups were exposed to a specific digital story influence including constructing their own, watching peer-created and public digital stories. Non-experimental classes experienced no intervention. The SSEIT trait emotional intelligence test will be administered pre-test, midway, post-test and one school term after the completion of the intervention, allowing longitudinal tracking of emotional intelligence test results. Results This paper will report on the findings showing the impact of the creation of digital story- telling, watching of peer and public digital stories on trait EI. It will also show how qualitative data gives more immediate information than quantitative data from the SSEIS test. However, the actual writing of the test will be shown to be critical in pupils evaluations of their experiences. Conclusions This study will indicate whether teachers are able to effectively use Web 2.0 tools to foster trait EI in the classroom.
