Complexation of Poly(ethylene glycol)-(ds)OligoDNA Conjugates with Ionic Liquids.

We report the complexation of poly(ethylene glycol) conjugated double-stranded oligoDNA (PEG-(ds)oligoDNA) with imidazolium-based ionic liquids (ILs) to form polyelectrolyte complex aggregates (PCAs). The PEG-(ds)oligoDNA conjugates are prepared following a solution-phase coupling reaction. The binding of PEG-(ds)oligoDNA with either 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium tetrafluoroborate ([BMIM][BF4]) or 1-hexyl-3-methylimidazolium tetrafluoroborate ([HMIM][BF4]) is confirmed by a fluorescence displacement assay. Both ILs show stronger binding affinity to PEG-(ds)oligoDNA than bare (ds)oligoDNA due to the PEG-assisted increase in IL cation concentration in the vicinity of (ds)oligoDNA. The complex morphology formed at various amine (N) to phosphate (P) ratios is also examined. At high N/P ratios above 4, nanosized PCAs are formed, driven by a counterion-mediated attraction among the IL-bound (ds)oligoDNA segments and stabilized by the conjugated PEG segments. The PCAs exhibit near-neutral surface charges and resistance to DNase degradation, suggesting their potential use in gene delivery applications.

Addition of Imidazolium-Based Ionic Liquid to Improve Methanol Production in Polyamine-Assisted CO2 Capture and Conversion Systems Using Pincer Catalysts.

Ionic liquids have been studied as CO2 capture agents. However, they are rarely used in combined CO2 capture and conversion processes. Utilizing imidazolium-based ionic liquids, the conversion of CO2 to methanol was greatly improved in polyamine assisted systems catalyzed by homogeneous pincer catalysts with Ru and Mn metal centers. Among the ionic liquids tested, [BMIM]OAc was found to perform the best under the given reaction conditions. Among the polyamine tested, pentaethylenehexamine (PEHA) led to the highest conversion rates. Ru-Macho and Ru-Macho-BH were the most active catalysts. Direct air capture utilizing PEHA as the capture material was also demonstrated and produced an 86 % conversion of the captured CO2 to methanol in the presence of [BMIM]OAc.

Atomistic molecular dynamics simulation and COSMO-SAC approach for enhanced 1,3-propanediol extraction with imidazolium-based ionic liquids.

1,3-Propanediol (1,3-PDO) is a key chemical in various industries, including pharmaceuticals and material sciences, and is projected to see significant market growth. However, the current challenges in its downstream processing, particularly in terms of cost and efficiency, highlight the need for innovative solutions. Our study delves into using ionic liquids (ILs) as a potential alternative, aiming to address these critical separation challenges more sustainably and efficiently. In this study, we utilized molecular dynamics (MD) simulations and the COSMO-SAC to examine 1,3-propanediol (1,3-PDO) extraction using four imidazolium-based ionic liquids with 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium [Bmim] cation and with different anions bis(pentafluoroethanesulfonyl)imide [NPF2]-, bis(trifluoromethylsulfonyl)imide [NTF2]-, thiocyanate [SCN]-, and trifluoromethanesulfonate [TFO]-. Molecular dynamics simulations, incorporating analysis of radial distribution functions (RDF) and spatial distribution functions (SDF), revealed that [Bmim][SCN] and [Bmim][TFO] exhibit enhanced interactions with 1,3-PDO. Notably, [Bmim][SCN] formed the most hydrogen bonds, averaging 1.639 per molecule, due to its coordinating [SCN]- anion. This was in contrast to the fewer hydrogen bonds formed by non-coordinating anions in [Bmim][NPF2] and [Bmim][NTF2]. In ternary systems, [Bmim][SCN] and [Bmim][TFO] demonstrated superior selectivity for 1,3-PDO extraction compared to the other ionic liquids, with selectivity values around 29. These findings, supported by COSMO-SAC predictive modeling, highlight the potential of [Bmim][SCN] as a promising candidate for 1,3-PDO extraction, emphasizing the importance of anion selection in optimizing ionic liquid properties for this application. In our study, we employed MD simulations, incorporating the OPLS-AA force field, and COSMO-SAC to investigate the extraction of 1,3-PDO using imidazolium-based ionic liquids: [Bmim][NTF2], [Bmim][NPF2], [Bmim][SCN], and [Bmim][TFO]. The MD simulations were conducted using LAMMPS software, focusing on elucidating the RDF, SDF, and hydrogen bonding. Analysis of the distribution coefficient (β) and selectivity (S) for the ternary mixture was also conducted. These aspects of the simulation were analyzed using TRAVIS and VMD software. Additionally, the COSMO-SAC model was employed to determine the activity coefficients of 1,3-PDO in the ionic liquids, with molecular optimization conducted using Gaussian16 and sigma profile calculations performed using COSMO-SAC.

Role of ionic liquids in ibuprofen-based eutectic systems: Aqueous solubility, permeability, human cytotoxicity, hemolytic activity and anti-inflammatory activity

Eutectic systems, as well as ionic liquids (ILs), offer a potential solution to the challenges associated with low solubility, polymorphism, and limited bioavailability of active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs). Herein, we prepared twelve pharmaceutically active eutectics based on ibuprofen (Ibu), a widely accessible without prescription non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID), and imidazolium-based ILs ([C2C1Im]Cl, [C2(OH)C1Im]Cl and [C2C1Im][C1CO2]) and cholinium salt ([N1112(OH)]Cl) at different molar ratio (2:1, 1:1, 1:2 and 1:5). All eutectic systems were characterized by DSC and NMR, and their polarity was assessed using the Kamlet-Taft approach to characterize the non-specific (polarity/polarizability) and specific (hydrogen bonding ability) interactions. An upgrade of the aqueous solubility (water and biological simulated fluids) for the Ibu-based eutectics relatively to ibuprofen was verified. Also, the assessment of ionicity (viscosity, conductivity, and density) was attained, confirming the formation of ion-pairs or clusters, that increase the potential of these liquids to be more membrane diffusive. The biocompatibility of the Ibu-based eutectics was evaluated up to 3 mM (well above the ibuprofen maximum plasma concentration) through a hemolytic activity assay and in vitro cytotoxicity as-says with two human cell lines (Caco-2 colon carcinoma cells and HepG2 hepatocellular carcinoma cells), without impairing their hemolytic and cytotoxic response. Additionally, the anti-inflammatory activity was evaluated by the inhibition of bovine serum albumin (BSA) denaturation and inhibition of cyclooxygenases (COX-1 and COX-2) enzymes, showing that the ibuprofen eutectic formulations maintain the anti-inflammatory response of ibuprofen with the opportunity to improve the selectivity towards COX-2, allowing the development of safer NSAIDs.

Beta-Irradiation of pure 1-alkyl-3-methylimidazolium-based ionic liquids

Abstract1-Alkyl-3-methylimidazolium ionic liquids are common cellulose solvents and biomass pretreatment agents, while beta-irradiation (“e-beaming”) is often used to decrease the recalcitrance of biomass towards hydrolysis or saccharification. Aiming at the general goal of elucidating the interaction between lignocellulosics, imidazolium-based ionic liquids, and beta-irradiation, we studied the effect of beta-irradiation on the pure ILs 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium and 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium, both as chloride and acetate. Contrary to the expectation of inertness, irradiation caused degradation of the ILs, which was proportional to irradiation dosage, i.e., to irradiation time and intensity. At a dosage of 2400 kGy, 0.2% (2000 ppm) of the IL were chemically altered. The main degradation pathway is the formation of imidazole and N-methylimidazole with concomitant dealkylation. The cleaved-off alkyl groups, apparently in cationic form, react with the anions present, accounting for the formation of alkyl chlorides and alkyl acetates from the chloride ILs and acetate ILs, respectively. A second, minor pathway comprises the degradation of the imidazole ring under conversion of the C2-unit from the former C4-C5 moiety into ethylenediamine and reaction of the C1-unit from the former C2 with the IL anions. Because of the non-neglible byproduct formation, the degradation of the ILs upon beta-irradiation and possible side reactions of the resulting byproducts need to be kept in mind for all setups that involve beta-irradiation and imidazolium ILs simultaneously. Incorporating porous carbon materials into ionic liquid for high efficiency extraction of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons

Ionic liquid is an ideal candidate in the extraction of aromatic compounds. The design and construction of ionic liquids with high extraction efficiency and selectivity towards to the specific aromatics remain crucial question. In this paper, with the aid of orthogonal array experiment, the imidazolium-based ionic liquids with long alkyl chain on the cations were determined to possess high aromatics extraction efficiency. Furthermore, the Lewis acid anion was introduced into the ionic liquid to form 1-dodecyl-3-methylimidazolium ferric chloride ([C12mim][FeCl4]) and performed 62 % and 100 % extractant efficiency of naphthalene (NAP) and anthracene (ANT), respectively. Then the porous carbon materials (P1-1000) derived from hyper-crosslinked porous polymers (HCP) which possessed high BET surface area (1186 m2/g) was dispersed in [C12mim][FeCl4] to form porous ionic liquid. The single extraction efficiency of NAP improved from 62 % to 77 %. The great single extraction efficiency was attributed to the high porosity, additional adsorption sites provided by the Lewis acid anions and the hydrophobic long alkyl chain on the cations. After three times extraction, the concentration of NAP dropped down to 0. The porous ionic liquids also showed good recycle performance. The construction of porous ionic liquids provided an efficient approach for extraction of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons from aliphatic hydrocarbon.

Aqueous zinc‐iodine (Zn‐I2) batteries are gaining significant attention due to their low‐cost, high safety and high theoretical capacity. Nevertheless, their long cycle and durability have been hampered due to the use of aqueous media that overtime lead to Zn dendrite formation, hydrogen evolution reaction, and polyiodide dissolution. Xiao et. al., recently reported the addition of an imidazolium‐based ionic liquid (IL), to an aqueous electrolyte, that plays a key role in modifying the solvation of Zn2+ ions in the bulk electrolyte and the inner Helmotlz plane, which eliminates free H2O molecules to be present on the Zn anode surface. UV/Vis and NMR spectroscopy also indicates a strong interaction between imidazolium cation [EMIM]+ and I3‐, thereby reducing polyiodide shuttling and enhancing the cycle life of the battery. Overall, a capacity decay rate of only 0.01 % per cycle after over 18,000 cycles at 4 Ag‐1, is observed making the use of IL additives in aqueous electrolytes highly promising candidates for Zn‐I2 batteries.

Studies on the Interaction of Imidazolium Ionic Liquids with Human Serum Albumin

Imidazolium-based ionic liquids have emerged as promising bio-compatible solvents for bio-molecules. The interaction of two imidazolium-based ionic liquids, namely 1-decyl-3-methyl-imidazolium tetrafluoroborate [Dmim][BF4] and 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium octylsulfate [Bmim][OS], with human serum albumin (HSA) have been investigated using UV-visible, fluorescence and fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. Stern-Volmer quenching constant (Ksv) and the binding affinity (Ka) value have been also calculated to reveals the molecular interactions between HSA and the imidazolium-based ILs. Additionally, we explored the thermodynamic feasibility of these interactions by calculating the Gibbs free energy (∆G), entropy (∆S), and enthalpy (∆H). Hydrophobic interactions have been identified as exerting a more significant influence than hydrogen bonding in the interactions between proteins and ionic liquids. This implies that the hydrophobic characteristics of the ionic liquids play a pivotal role in the denaturation of proteins. Consequently, we conclude that the hydrophobic nature of the ionic liquids is essential for inducing interactions with proteins and potentially contributing to protein structure denaturation.

Sensitively detection of ascorbic acid in orange samples with ionic liquid functionalized carbon dots and lanthanide complexes

In the food industry, ascorbic acid (AA) is widely used as an antioxidant. However, the concentration of AA is influenced by various factors, including temperature, time, and pH value during food preparation and storage, leading to its instability in content. This makes the accurate detection of AA content particularly important. Precise determination of AA content in food and pharmaceuticals is crucial for ensuring the adequate intake of essential vitamins and maintaining good health. Herein, we have developed a successful preparation method of an imidazole-based ionic liquid functionalized CDs hybrids APM-CDs. A novel photo functional hybrid probe Eu3+@APM-CDs was obtained via an ion-exchange reaction between APM-CDs and lanthanide complex Eu(DPA)3. The obtained hybrid probe was extensively characterized in detail. What's more, the results show that the fluorescent intensity of Eu3+@APM-CDs has a good linear response to AA concentrations in the range of 25–500 μM (R2 = 0.99), with a detection limit of 80 nM. The fluorescence probe demonstrates good selectivity and sensitivity toward AA and has the potential for significant application in AA detection by simplifying procedures and reducing interference from impurities.

Entangling imidazolium-based ionic liquids and melanins: A crossover study on chemical vs electronic properties and carrier transport mechanisms

Melanins (mel) are a class of pigments that are nearly ubiquitous and among the oldest compounds found in nature. However, their practical application has been limited due to their low solubility in water and in most organic solvents. Recent research on polydopamine has revealed that ionic liquids (ILs) not only enhance melanin’s dissolution but also fine-tune its redox properties through specific dipolar interactions. In this study, we expand upon previous investigations by customizing new suspensions on a broader range of melanins. Concerning ILs, we focus on imidazolium based ILs, tailoring their chemical properties (pKa) and structural characteristics (cation radius, anion radius).The melanins under consideration include synthetic polymers derived from the oxidative polymerization of 5,6-dihydroxyindole (DHI) and its 2-carboxylic acid counterpart (DHICA), as well as the natural pigment Sepiomelanin (Sepiomel), which is isolated from the ink sack of cuttlefish. Our comparative analysis between neat ILs and ILs-mel responses reveals several key findings: the increase in solubility, the tuning of the redox ability, the decrease of the ionic charge resistance (from MΩ τo kΩ); the partial removal of the electrical polarization effects and the delocalized ionic charge hopping mechanisms in conductivity; the increase of the free ionic diffusion mobility and Debye lengths. Notably, electrical transport is influenced by both the chemical features and the steric hindrance in the ILs as well as the specific type of melanin employed. These factors contribute to the high order correlation between free ionic charge densities and their corresponding Debye lengths. Consequently, our findings suggest that for these complex systems, an improved model extending beyond a simplified electrostatic interaction mechanism is required.

Effect of Mixture Composition on the Photophysics of Indoline Dyes in Imidazolium Ionic Liquid-Molecular Solvent Mixtures: A Femtosecond Transient Absorption Study.

We conducted a study on the photophysics of three indoline dyes, D102, D149, and D205, in binary mixtures of ionic liquids (IL) and polar aprotic molecular solvents (MS). Specifically, we examined the behavior of these dyes in IL-MS mixtures containing four different imidazolium-based ILs and three different polar aprotic MSs. Our investigation involved several techniques, including stationary absorption and emission measurements, as well as femtosecond transient absorption (TA) spectroscopy. Through our analysis, we discovered a peculiar behavior of several photophysical properties at low IL mole fractions (0 < XIL < 0.2). Indeed, in this range of mixture composition, the absorption maximum wavelength decreases noticeably, while the emission maximum wavelength and the Stokes shift, expressed in wavenumbers, reach a maximum. while a minimum occurs in the relative quantum yield and the excited state lifetime. These results indicate that the solvation of dye undergoes a large change in this range of mixture composition. We found that, at high ionic liquid content, the excited relaxation times are correlated with the high viscosity, while at low content, it is the polarity of the solvent that influences the behavior of the excited relaxation times. At a mixture composition of around 0.10, the behavior of the photophysical properties of the studied IL-MS mixtures indicates a crossover between situations where the solvation is dominated by that of ions and that dominated by the solvent.

Evolution of Surface Tension and Hansen Parameters of a Homologous Series of Imidazolium-Based Ionic Liquids.

In this study, we systematically analyze the surface tension and Hansen solubility parameters (HSPs) of imidazolium-based ionic liquids (ILs) with different anions ([NTf2]-, [PF6]-, [I]-, and [Br]-). These anions are combined with the classical 1-alkyl-3-methyl-substituted imidazolium cations ([CnC1Im]+) and a group of oligoether-functionalized imidazolium cations ([(mPEGn)2Im]+) based on methylated polyethylene glycol (mPEGn). In detail, the influences of the length of the alkyl- and the mPEGn-chain, the anion size, and the water content are investigated experimentally. For [CnC1Im]+-based ILs, the surface tension decreases with increasing alkyl chain length in all cases, but the magnitude of this decrease depends on the size of the anion ([NTf2]- < [PF6]- < [Br]- ≤ [I]-). Molecular dynamics (MD) simulations on [CnC1Im]+-based ILs indicate that these differences are caused by the interplay of charged and uncharged domains, in particular in the different anions, which affects the ability of the alkyl chains of the cation to orient toward the liquid-gas interface. An increase in the mPEGn-chain length of the [(mPEGn)2Im][A] ILs does not significantly influence the surface tension. These changes upon variation of the cation/anion combination do not correlate with the evolution of the HSPs for the two sets of ILs. Finally, our data suggest that significant water contents up to water mole fractions of x(H2O) = 0.25 do not significantly affect the surface tension of the studied binary IL-water mixtures.

Research on synthesis of imidazole-based ionic liquids as metal corrosion inhibitors

Ionic liquids (ILs) have gained significant attention in recent years as potential corrosion inhibitors to various applications. Traditional corrosion inhibitors, such as organic compounds and inorganic salts, have limitations in terms of toxicity, volatility, and environmental impact. However, ionic liquids offer a promising alternative. Ionic liquids are salts that exist in a liquid state at or below 100 degrees Celsius. They typically comprise an organic cation and an inorganic or organic anion. The unique combination of a liquid state and ionic nature gives them several advantageous properties, such as high thermal stability, low vapor pressure, and tunable physicochemical properties. Additionally, the charged nature of the ionic liquid allows for electrochemical interactions with the metal surface, further enhancing corrosion inhibition. In this paper, imidazole-based ionic liquids were synthesized by alkylation of imidazole derivatives using 1-bromohexadecane. The anti-corrosion properties of the material were evaluated using the weight method and potentiodynamic polarization method. Results showed that the synthesized ILs are good corrosion inhibitor for CT3 steel.

Nanodomain organization in ionic liquids: Implications of polarization effects in the alkyl side-chain association

The existence of domains at the nanometric scale has been observed in ionic liquids with long alkyl side chains. Experimental evidence and theoretical studies have suggested the existence of nanodomains with polar and non-polar characteristics. This evidence has been related to the capacity of ionic liquids to dissolve species within a broad range of chemical properties. Herein, we present a study of the structural features of the non-polar domain using classical molecular dynamics using a polarizable force field. The results suggest that the tail-to-tail association is stronger when a polarizable force field is used, owing to the better description of the dispersive forces between them. We propose using a polarizable force field in the simulations of ionic liquids based on classical molecular dynamics as the default method. To account for these differences, we compare the non-polarizable force field and its polarizable variant in describing the self-association of long-tailed imidazolium-based ionic liquids. Finally, a nanodomain analysis could rationalize the solute-solvent interactions brought about by ionic liquid since they strongly depend on the hydrogen-bond acidity and basicity, which are expected to operate in the polar domain.

Effect of Alkyl Chain Length on the Corrosion Inhibition Performance of Imidazolium-Based Ionic Liquids for Carbon Steel in 1 M HCl Solution: Experimental Evaluation and Theoretical Analysis.

In this study, five kinds of 1-alkyl-3-methylimidazolium bromide ([CXami]Br) ionic liquids with different alkyl chain lengths (8, 10, 12, 14, and 16) were selected as inhibitors. Then, their corrosion inhibition performances for Q235 steel in 1.0 mol L-1 HCl solution were investigated via a weight loss test, polarization curve method, and surface analysis techniques. The results show that these five imidazolium-based ionic liquids are all mixed-type inhibitors, and they can be spontaneously adsorbed onto the Q235 steel surface. The adsorption process follows the Langmuir model and involves mixed physical-chemical adsorption. Theoretical calculations confirm that the increase in alkyl chain length is conducive to the imidazolium-based ionic liquids exhibiting stronger chemical bonding abilities and forming denser adsorption films. The inhibition efficiency significantly increases below the critical micelle concentration (CMC) with an increase in alkyl chain length, and the highest inhibition efficiency is 95.17% for the [C16ami]Br inhibitor at the concentration of 0.005 mM. However, above the CMC, the inhibition efficiency is minimally affected by the alkyl chain length since all ionic liquid inhibitors have reached adsorption saturation on the steel surface.

Separation and purification of polyprenols from Ginkgo biloba leaves by silver ion anchored on imidazole-based ionic liquid functionalized mesoporous MCM-41 sorbent.

Polyprenols (PPs) are compounds with excellent biological activities and are applied in food, pharmaceutical, and cosmetic industries. However, its strong non-polar nature makes it difficult to separate with many saturated impurities (such as saturated fatty acids) extracted together. Complexation extraction is an effective method for separating saturated and polyunsaturated compounds. In this study, mesoporous silica MCM-41 was modified by imidazole-based ionic liquids (IL) followed by coating these MCM-41-supported IL compounds with silver salt to construct π-complexing adsorbent (AgBF4/IL•MCM-41) to enrich PPs from Ginkgo biloba leaves (GBL) extract. The mesoporous π-complexing sorbent was characterized by small-angle X-ray scattering (SAXS), FTIR, and nitrogen adsorption-desorption. The effect of the ratio of silver salt to IL•MCM-41 on the adsorption capacity of polyprenols from GBL was compared, and the dosage of AgBF4 was determined to be 1.5 mmol/g IL•MCM-41. Adsorption isotherms and kinetics indicate that the π-complexing adsorbent has excellent PPs adsorption performance (153 mg/g at 30 °C) and a fast adsorption rate (the time to reach adsorption equilibrium is 210 s). The PPs were separated using the fixed bed after treatment for only one cycle with AgBF4/IL•MCM-41, and the content of PPs in the product was increased from 38.54% to 70.2%, with a recovery rate of 86.6%. The π-complexing adsorbent showed excellent reusability for ≥3 adsorption-desorption cycles.

CuPd bimetallic nanoparticles supported magnetic ionic liquid-derived N-doped carbon as a highly efficient heterogeneous catalyst for the one-pot oxidative multicomponent reactions

BackgroundMulticomponent reactions often rely on aldehydes as the reactants, limiting their widespread use. To enhance the versatility and scope of these reactions, aldehydes can be replaced with alcohols. MethodsIn this study, nitrogen-doped magnetic carbon nanostructures modified with imidazolium-based ionic liquid (Fe3O4@NC-IL) were prepared. These nanostructures were synthesized by a one-pot hydrothermal carbonization method using ferric chloride in the presence of glucose, urea, epichlorohydrin and 1-methylimidazole as carbon source, nitrogen source, linker and ionic liquid, respectively. Then, CuPd bimetallic nanoparticles were immobilized on the synthesized nanostructures by a wet chemical reduction process. Significant findingsThe catalytic activity of the nanostructures was evaluated in the oxidation of alcohol under base-free conditions. The results indicate that the CuPd bimetallic catalyst exhibited better catalytic performance than both Cu and Pd monometallic catalysts, suggesting a synergistic effect between copper and palladium. Also, a non-ionic liquid-based catalyst was synthesized and used in the model reaction to study the effect of imidazolium ionic liquid species on the catalytic activity. The results showed that these species enhanced the catalytic activity. Finally, the catalytic activity of the synthesized structure was evaluated through a one-pot tandem oxidative synthesis of dihydropyrimidinones (Biginelli reaction) and dihydropyridines (Hantzsch reaction).

Multifunctional Interface Modification Enables Efficient and Stable HTL-Free Carbon-Electroded CsPbI2Br Perovskite Solar Cells.

In recent years, hole transport layer-free all-inorganic CsPbI2Br carbon-electroded perovskite solar cells (C-PSCs) have garnered significant attention due to a trade-off between stability and photovoltaic performance. However, there are inevitably many defects generated at the surfaces or grain boundaries of CsPbI2Br perovskite films, which will serve as carrier non-radiative recombination centers, and CsPbI2Br perovskite films are sensitive to water molecules to degrade, together with energy level mismatch between CsPbI2Br perovskite and carbon electrodes. Herein, 1-benzyl-3-methylimidazolium hexafluorophosphate (1-B-3-MIMPF6), an imidazolium-based ionic liquid simultaneously containing benzene ring and fluorine atoms, was introduced for the modification of the perovskite/carbon interface. The results showed that it could effectively reduce defects, enhance carrier transfer, mitigate carrier non-radiative recombination, facilitate energy alignment, and block moisture intrusion. Therefore, the photovoltaic performance of the modified PSCs with ITO/SnO2/CsPbI2Br/1-B-3-MIMPF6/carbon architecture has been boosted with a champion power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 13.47 %, open circuit voltage of 1.20 V, short circuit current density of 14.69 mA/cm2, and fill factor of 76 %. Moreover, the unencapsulated modified devices exhibited an improved stability and the PCE maintained 78 % of their initial PCE after 24 h storage at room temperature in a 30 %-35 % humidity environment, whereas that of the pristine devices dropped to almost zero.
