Comparison of Career Decision Difficulties: Reviewed Based On Gender and Its Affecting Aspects

This article reviews the results of a descriptive analytical study of the career decision making profile of guidance and counseling students at IKIP Siliwangi by applying the career decision difficulty questionnaire from Itamar Gati et al. The subjects in this study were 170 students. The results of this study are to examine the students’ difficulties in making career decisions related to: (1). lack of knowledge about the steps involved in the career decision making process; (2). lack of information about self (3). lack of information about the type of work; (4). lack of information about how to obtain additional information. The data obtained are tabulated and analyzed to get the results of the statistical description. The result of data analysis found that the level of students difficultues in making career decision categorized moderate. The statistical test on differences of difficulty of career decision making based on gender showed that male students are more difficult in making career decisions.

IMPROVING STUDENTS’ WRITING SKILL THROUGH ROUND TABLE TECHNIQUE

In Writing for General Communication course, students are expected to be able to write using several genres of text. In reality, most of the students in second semester at IKIP Siliwangi face some problems related to writing skill. To improve the students’ writing skill, the lecturers need to find out an appropriate technique for the students. This research used Classroom Action Research (CAR). The objectives of the study are: 1) finding out whether or not Round Table can improve the students’ writing skill 2) finding out classroom situation when Round Table implemented in writing for general communication course. The finding was supported by the result of students’ writing scores. The average score of pre test was 68.31. After the implementation of Round Table Technique in every cycle, the students’ speaking score were getting better. It can be seen from the result of students’ average score 75.15 in cycle 1 and 81.5 in cycle 2. It can be concluded that Round Table Technique can improve students’ speaking skill and improve speaking classroom into a better situation. Keywords : Writing Skill, Round Table Technique, CAR

Microsoft Excel VBA on mathematical resilience of primary school teacher education students

This research is motivated by the low student mathematical resilience. The purpose of this study is to look at the achievement of mathematical resilience of students who obtain learning using Microsoft Excel VBA with those using conventional learning. This study uses a quasi-experimental method with a non-equivalent pretest and posttest control group design. The subjects of this study were 70 second semester elementary school teacher candidates at IKIP Siliwangi. The instruments in this study used non-tests in the form of questionnaires and interviews. The results show that, 1) the achievement of mathematical resilience of students who get learning using Microsoft Excel VBA is better than those using conventional learning; 2) students who learn with Microsoft Excel VBA tend to be able to overcome difficulties if given difficult math problems, anxiety and fear in working on math problems are reduced, and more confident in expressing mathematical opinions/ideas; 3) mathematical resilience is not an instant thing to change so it needs environmental support so that students’ mathematical resilience becomes better.

As a result, the curriculum set into contemporary literacies: Data Literacy comprises the ability to read and analyze, Technology Literacy includes the ability to apply technology, and Human Literacy aims at creating humanists who can communicate well. This new education system requires professionals who create innovation based on research information. This notion calls for a new perspective converting challenges into opportunities. Thus, the Mathematics Education Department of IKIP Siliwangi and the Indonesian Mathematics Educator Society (I-MES) invite researchers, practitioners, and educators to participate in and contribute to The 2nd International Seminar on Applied Mathematics and Mathematics Education (ISAMME) 2020 under the theme “Issues and Challenges for Applied Mathematics and Mathematics Education in Digital Era.”This seminar has objectives to expand mathematics contribution to society, improve mathematics teaching, and solve mathematics problems. It was carried out online through the Zoom application with a capacity of 1000 people. The Zoom application is also equipped with a Zoom breakout feature to support the implementation of contribution and streaming sessions on Youtube.List of photos are available in the pdf.

The role of education, values, culture and character in online learning for learning mathematical outcomes of prospective teachers

The purpose of this research is to know the relationship between education, value, culture and the character of learning outcomes after online learning. The research methods used are correlational. The population taken is the entire student of the Mathematics Education Study Program IKIP Siliwangi 2018 which takes courses of Linear Program. Sample research was taken with the Purposive Sampling technique as many as 39 students. The instrument used is the test instrument of the study results of linear courses and non-test instruments to view the education response value, culture and character (EVCC) with a scale Likert as many as 30 statements. Stages of data analysis through test normality, correlation analysis, simple regression analysis and coefficient of determination. The results showed that education, value, culture and character significantly influenced the student mathematics achievement of the Linear Program, with its contribution of 13.6%, while the remaining student learning outcomes were influenced by other factors during online.

IKIP Siliwangi student’s perceptions of online teaching and learning process during COVID-19 pandemic?

Covid-19 pandemic in Indonesia has an impact on various fields of life, especially higher education. The online lecture system in higher education is an effective solution and has been applied in the lecture process. This study aims to determine student perceptions about online lectures, to find out the forms of an application used in online lectures and to find out the supporting factors and inhibiting factors in online lectures. This research was conducted with a descriptive survey research method, the sample in this study were students majoring in mathematics education, PGPAUD, and Counseling Guidance, PGSD, Community education and Indonesian with a total number of students 183. The data analysis technique used in this study is to calculate the percentage of data from each indicator, then interpret the score presentation of the data and analyze each indicator. The research instrument uses a question questionnaire sent via the google form application. The results obtained are students’ perceptions of online lectures that students prefer face-to-face lectures compared to online lectures, supporting factors for online lectures are students have free opportunities to learn and find sources of information, availability of data packages, cellphones, laptops and internet networks that support. An inhibiting factor in the online lecture process is the lack of data packages and the internet. This research is expected to be an evaluation of various parties in conducting online learning in tertiary institutions and as study material for other researchers in analyzing and developing students’ perceptions in online learning during emergencies in tertiary institutions.

Application of geogebra software to improve problem-solving skills in analytic geometry in prospective teachers students

This study aims to examine the improvement in thinking skills problem solving of prospective teacher students in learning analytic geometry using GeoGebra software. The population in this study were all students of IKIP Siliwangi, with a sample of class One class 2018 totalling 35 people. The instrument used in this study was a test in the form of a 5-item description question and a non-test in the form of a Likert scale. Based on the results of data processing, it can be concluded that the use of GeoGebra software is effective in improving problem-solving skills in analytic geometry learning. Overall, students’ responses to the use of GeoGebra software in learning analytic geometry courses are in a very strong category. The highest indicator of student attitudes towards the use of GeoGebra software is achieved on the indicator of interest in the media and the indicator that has the lowest percentage lies in the indicator of image use.

PENGGUNAAN MEDIA POSTER UNTUK MENINGKATKAN MINAT BACA DI KALANGAN MAHASISWA

This research is based on the lack of knowledge and the use of poster media in increasing reading interest among students. in connection with the development of print media. So, directly forcing to sharpen the observation of the information in circulation. This, causes that the progress of print media or science and technology affects the development of literacy. For this reason, poster media is a means of increasing the attractiveness of reading and providing significant changes for literacy advancement. Thus, poster media must provide different changes specifically for students to be more interested in reading interest. In addition, poster media provide encouragement and motivation as a driving force, a guide in a good direction. As for this study, the researcher wanted to know how much influence the poster media had to increase reading interest among students. This study uses a qualitative descriptive method that describes data and facts in the form of descriptions obtained through processing and collecting data through a questionnaire distributed via WhatsApp. The sample of this research was conducted on 10 students of IKIP Siliwangi in various departments. The results of this study of 9 people gave the answer that poster media made increased attractiveness in literacy and there were 7 people affected by poster media by giving answers, that posters were persuasive, which meant to attract attention by unifying images, writing colors, and words.

DIGITAL MEDIA BASED STAD +3R AS AN INNOVATIVE METHODS FOR WRITING EXPLANATION TEXT TEACHING LEARNING

Innovation in learning has to be done,  including IKIP Siliwangi students, learning innovation becomes the background in this research, the innovation in question is to develop existing learning models tailored to the needs of students and combine learning model with digital media. The purpose of find out the results of students' learning in writing expplanation text using innovative methods, and to know the implementation of STAD+ 3R methods based on digital media as innovative methods. The research used is quantitative descriptive in the form of Nonequivalent control groups. The population in this study was 300 grade VIII students. The sampling used purposive sampling and obtained grade VIII B as an experimental class of 30 students and grade VIII A as a control class of 30 students. The results showed the study increased the average score by 21.87 points from 56.13 to 78. Significant differences through statistical test with signification score of 2-tailed independent t test sample test is 0.003 < 0.05, it can be concluded there is a meaningful difference between the control and the experiment class, Implementation of STAD +3R method based on digital media goes very well with the results of students' work in the experiment class with digital products in the form of vlog, pptx and e-book. Â

Providing teaching resources for young learner classes: Best practices in efl context

The availability of teaching resources is one of important factors to create successful lessons in teaching English to young learners (TEYL). Teachers can use flashcards, toys, songs, rhymes, books, audio visual materials, digital recourses and others to support teaching and learning process. Ready-made materials are available in stores, however they are usually expensive. The aim of this article is to share one of the best practices in providing resources for young learners in learning English. In the academic year of 2018, 40 students of English Department of IKIP Siliwangi took English for Young Learners (EYL) course for two credit hours. This is the second subject which is related to teaching young learners after they learned TEYL subjects as the perquisite subject in the previous year. In this course, students re-learned the concept of TEYL and the concepts how to provide teaching materials and resources for TEYL classes. At the end of the course, they should show their projects and demonstrate how to use them in TEYL. The findings reveal that students’ are very creative in designing resources for TEYL classes. This ability is very crucial in order to create child-friendly pedagogy in EYL classrooms.

AN ACOUSTIC ANALYSIS OF VOICELESS ALVEOLAR PLOSIVE /t/ IN SUNDANESE, INDONESIAN, AND ENGLISH BY SUNDANESE SPEAKERS

A voiceless alveolar plosive /t/ is pronounced with many variations. In English, it is perceived to have an aspiration when it is in the initial segment of a word in a stressed syllable while Sundanese and Indonesian do not aspirate it. The study focuses on finding out Voice Onset Time (VOT) or duration of /t/ in Sundanese, Indonesian, and English produced by Sundanese speakers. The method used is quantitative and qualitative (mix method). The data are obtained from the voice recording of eighteen undergraduate students. They are all native Sundanese speakers who are learning English at IKIP Siliwangi Cimahi. The voice recordings are analyzed and measured by acoustic analysis by using PRAAT software. The result shows the average VOT or duration of /t/ in the initial segment of the word in Sundanese and Indonesian is identical, namely 20 ms. It indicates that they do not aspirate /t/ in Sundanese and Indonesian. Additionally, they transfer the way they produce /t/ in their two languages into English as their foreign language. It can be seen from the average VOT or duration of /t/ in the initial segment of the word in English that lasts 29 ms. This finding can be a reference to other researchers who want to know the necessary duration of /t/ in Sundanese and Indonesian produced by Sundanese speakers.

STUDENTS’ MOTIVATIONS IN ENGLISH LANGUAGE LEARNING OF EFL CLASSROOM: A CASE STUDY OF ENGLISH DEPARTMENT STUDENTS OF ACADEMIC YEAR 2018/2019 IKIP SILIWANGI BANDUNG

Some psychologists and educationalists have explained various models related to students’ motivation in learning English language. One of them is proposed by (Gardner, 1988) who explained about the socio-educational model. This study reports data from the interview conducted to the English Department students of IKIP Siliwangi of Academic Year 2018/2019 about their motivation in English language learning. In this research, there are three students of English Department as the participants. In addition to the researcher, the instrument of this study is Interview which is applied to the three students based on their language ability levels; namely, high, moderate and low. This study belongs to Qualitative research because there is no statistical data presented. Instead, the data were collected by using structured interview and then, they were transcribed, categorized and interpreted. The findings revealed that there are three factors for the students that makes the students of English Department becomes more motivated in English language learning; namely, the teacher himself, the teaching strategies and games. The Language Style of Prospective Counselors in Islamic Perspectives: Implications for Career Counseling

<p class="06IsiAbstrak"><span>Cultural diversity, especially language style becomes a color in everyday social life, this is important considering the exchange of knowledge (transfer of knowledge) and values (transfer of values) of each individual depends on the verbal ability of humans in explaining everything that is experienced. The main issue that has become an obstacle in the world of Guidance and Counseling to this day is the demand for Counselor performance which must be improved but not accompanied by the ability to use language properly and correctly. The purpose of this study is to determine the language style of prospective counselors in the IKIP Siliwangi environment, West Java</span><span lang="IN">. An ethnographic study was chosen as a research model that aims to describe the language style of counselors in the Islamic perspective and their implications in career counseling. The data analysis technique used is thematic ethnography to thoroughly describe the language style of prospective counselors in an Islamic perspective that influences their application in the career counseling process. Based on the results of observes conducted, the authors found several findings including research subjects preferring the use of socially-formed language and applying it in daily life including in the learning process rather than considering it in an Islamic perspective such as (1) <em>Tauqiify</em>, (2) <em>Ishtilah</em>, (3) <em>tauqiify</em> and <em>ishtilahy</em>.</span></p>

CHARACTER EDUCATION VALUE ANALYSIS IN COLLECTION OF STUDENTS

Education must be adapted to the development of the times so that the academics are required to innovate by utilizing the sophistication of technology as a source of learning, learning media, and teaching and learning process. The development of globalization has an impact on the character of children today who are considered alarming. This can be seen from the development of personality and social development that is not in accordance with religious norms, cultural norms, and social norms prevailing in society. Children tend to be so selfish that they don't like to work together, can't respect their parents or teachers, often they are trapped in the world of crime and drugs. Efforts to instill the values of character education in children in the millennial era can be done by integrating subjects through technology, for example in learning Indonesian language children are assigned to memca poems, short stories, or novels which contain elements of moral values contained in literary works on the Internet. The formulation of the problems in this study are as follows: a) What are the values of character education contained in the short stories of IKIP Siliwangi students? b) What character education values are most contained in the short stories of IKIP Siliwangi students? This research is a qualitative study using descriptive analytical methods. Judging on the basis of methods and objectives, this research includes research and development.

ANALYSIS OF WRITING PROBLEMS IKIP SILIWANGI STUDENTS

This research is research that focuses on analyzing the ability to write a paper by IKIP Siliwangi students. The purpose of this research problem is how to write scientific papers of IKIP Siliwangi students and what aspects are weaknesses in the scientific works of IKIP Siliwangi students. This research method is a descriptive qualitative method. The data sample consisted of 33 scientific papers of Indonesian Language Education Study Program students. The data analysis technique is by assessing papers using basic instruments, each student paper will get a maximum score of 100. The results of the research are then described to get a clear and correct description. The results showed that the average score of student papers was 53.9. This value is categorized as less. The weakness aspects of student papers lie in 1. Conventions of the paper relating to the consistency of paragraph typography; 2. Aspects of content meaningfulness related to the logical content of the paper and supported by information and data; 3. Scientific aspects related to effective sentences, quotations, and bibliography. The results of this study can be summed up in two points. First, the weakness of the writing of the Siliwangi IKIP student papers is the result of the students' inaccuracy in paying attention to new papers and the typing process; Second, students still lack knowledge of grammar, various standard languages, and Indonesian spelling.Keywords: writing skills analysis, writing papers

THE CORRELATION BETWEEN MOTIVATION BEHAVIOUR AND SPEAKING ABILITY

This researchis aboutthe correlation between motivation behaviour and spekaing abilityat English Students Association. Hence, this research is aimed to find out whether or not there is a significant correlation between motivation behaviour and speaking ability at English Students Association. This research used correlation research design and qualitative research. The instrument is motivation test using questionnaire and speaking test by story telling. The population of this research is English Students Association of IKIP Siliwangi and the sample is 30 students. The data o this research is analysed using pearson product moment correlation coefficient. The degree of correlation between two variables was low with a correlation coefficient of 0.045. the result showed that there was a weak correlation between motivation behaviour and speaking ability at English Students Association.

IMPROVING STUDENTS’ SPEAKING SKILL THROUGH ENGLISH MOVIE IN SCOPE OF SPEAKING FOR GENERAL COMMUNICATION

Speaking for general communication is compulsory subject that must be taken by students during second semester. In reality, most of the students at IKIP Siliwangi face some problems related to speaking skill. To improve the students’ speaking skill, the lecturers need to know what media is the most suitable for the students. This research used Collaborative Classroom Action Research (CAR). The objectives of the study are: 1) finding out whether or not English Movie can improve the students’ speaking skill 2) finding out classroom situation when English Movie implemented in speaking class. To collect data, the researcher used instruments of observations, tests and questionnaires. The finding showed that the use of English Movie was effective in improving the speaking abilities of the student in class. This can be seen from the improvements after each cycle. The average score of pre test was 70.5. After the implementation of English Movie in every cycle, the students’ speaking score were getting better. It can be seen from the result of students’ average score 76.5 in cycle 1 and 81 in cycle 2. Therefore, it can be concluded that English Movie can improve students’ speaking skill and improve speaking classroom into a better situation. Keywords : Improving, Speaking, English Movie

THE IMPLEMENTATION OF REWARD AND PUNISHMENT TOWARDS STUDENT PERCEPTION IN ENGLISH LEARNING AT IKIP SILIWANGI

This Research titled THE IMPLEMENTATION OF REWARD AND PUNISHMENT TOWARD STUDENTS’ PERCEPTION IN ENGLISH LEARNING AT IKIP SILIWANGI aimed to investigate the students’perception of reward and punishment and analyze the positive effect to student. This study imployes a qualitative reseach and the strategy used in this reseach is descriptive qualitatiave. This research took place at English Education Department Program IKIP SILIWANGI by involving interview college students at two classes randomly. The finding of this research is students’perception of reward and punishment. the students who proper to get a punishment when the students do not do the assignment, coming late etc. and the students who proper to get the reward when the students can answer the questions and also get additionl score. they can get B score for someone always present in every meetings, but it depend on the individu in order to do not repeat the mistake that they have done so obviously giving a reward can motived the student in learning activity because the students will to compete to get that reward

Development of innovative teaching and learning module in linear algebra course assisted by Maple

The aim of this study is to develop an innovative teaching and learning module in Linear Algebra assisted by Maple. This study used Research and Development (R&D) with 4D (Define, Design, Development and Dissemination) model as its methodology developed by Thiagarajan, but in this study, the methodology is limited up until Development stage only. Two instruments were used in this study: expert validation sheets and students response sheets. These instruments were used to determine the validity of this module. Validity analysis on three expert validator gave draft I as the result meanwhile validity analysis on the students response gave draft II as the result. In this study we used 4 months research on 2015 Mathematics Education Department students, IKIP Siliwangi. The result of this study show that expert validity learning module is said to be valid with the results of validation from three expert validators having a value of 4.1 on a scale of 5 with very high validity of 58.82%. Limited trial for students showed a value of 3.44 on a scale of 5 with moderate validity of 63.16%.
