A Taste of IEEE RWW 2011 [From the Guest Editor's Desk

The goal of this special supplement issue of IEEE Microwave Magazine is to provide a bird's-eye view of the upcoming 2011 IEEE Radio and Wireless Week (RWW 2011). The five-day long RWW technical, social, and exhibition events will be held in Glendale, Arizona, near Phoenix, on 16-20 January 2011. RWW is a leading multidisciplinary IEEE forum that presents the latest results on radio and wireless ecosystems and related technologies.

Re-Visioning Reviews [From the Editor's Desk

A cornerstone of the IEEE publication process is the anonymous peer review that every manuscript receives. All technical manuscripts submitted to any of the three Microwave Theory and Techniques Society (MTT-S) publications—IEEE Transactions on Microwave Theory and Techniques, IEEE Microwave and Wireless Components Letters, and IEEE Microwave Magazine—receive at least two reviews (the minimum required by the IEEE). With one or two exceptions, we have found at least three reviewers for every technical feature and Application Note published in the magazine since I have been the editor.

Where to Go [From the Editor's Desk

IEEE Microwave Magazine's Web site has recently been updated, and, if you haven't looked at it lately, I encourage you to do so. One of our goals with the revamped Web page is to make the operation of the magazine as transparent as possible. IEEE Microwave Magazine is a service for you, the members, and the Web site is intended to give an introduction to the magazine for those not familiar with it, as well as to provide guidance to those who wish to submit articles. The IMS 2009 "Bonus" Issue [From the Editor's Desk

This special issue of IEEE Microwave Magazine represents a new initiative of the IEEE Microwave Theory and Techniques Society (MTT-S) focused on the International Microwave Symposium (IMS) to be held in Boston, Massachusetts, 7-12 June 2009 (IMS 2009). In the pages that follow, you can read about the specific aspects of IMS 2009 and also the technical features that focus on the topics covered in the IMS 2009 panel, focus, and rump sessions. Our intention for this issue is to cover details of the IMS 2009, the Society's biggest meeting and one of the most anticipated events of the year for many microwave engineers, while still providing thought-provoking articles on state-of-the-art topics that will appeal to our readers who won't be attending the symposium.

When the phone call came asking me to consider taking the role of Editor-in-Chief for IEEE Microwave Magazine, my first thought was save yourself--decline! Like every other electronics engineer I know, I was already multitasking, juggling several projects at once. Most of us agree to take on (and take home) more work than we probably should.

MTT is GOLD! [From the Editors' Desk

Unlike previous special issues of IEEE Microwave Magazine, this one is not dedicated to a specific topic within the microwave arena. Rather, it is built under the umbrella of an idea; the idea behind Graduates of the Last Decade (GOLD). GOLD was instituted by the IEEE in 1996 with the charter of helping young professionals transition from being a student to entering the professional world.
