Event Abstract Back to Event Morphological aspects of anchovy in the Atlantic Moroccan coast. Jihane J. El Idrissi El Awad1* and Hassan H. El Ouizgani1* 1 Université Ibn Zohr, fisheries biology, Morocco The purpose of this study is to determine if there is a morphological difference of the European anchovy, Engraulis encrasicoluscaught in the Moroccan Atlantic Coast and to verify if the individuals can be considered as a separate race, subpopulations or it’s the same population just it’s been influenced by the environment in which it’s located. The individuals were taken from the major ports in the Moroccan Atlantic ocean, with at least 250 km distance and an important climate and oceanographic change; these ports are Larach, Casablanca, Agadir and Laayoune. And also to check if there is already a local disparity, two nearby ports were chosen Larach and Assilah. A morphological and meristic analysis was carried out on 344 individuals, Twenty two morphometric characters are measured, and four meristic characters are counted for each individual. The data were processed by different statistical methods, the correlation test, PCA, ANCOVA and MANCOVA. The results of these tests allowed us to notice that there is a population opposition between Laayoune at the southern and Larach at the north, and despite that there is a proximity between Assilah and Larachit shows a disparity, not very important but a variability which makes that Assilah is closer to Agadir than Larach. According to the results we can remark that there is a gradient of variability from north to south through Casablanca, however we have an exception of Larach and Assilah. To confirm this difference a Kruskal-Wallis test has been applied to the meristic characters. The results of these tests and those of other researchers allowed us to link the morphometric variation of the species due to environmental changes.
