Second sound in wave turbulence: A clue to the cause of anomalous plasma diffusivity.

A medium driven sufficiently far off equilibrium so that it is wave turbulent can support a propagating energy mode with similarities to second sound. Conditions for the transition from parabolic to hyperbolic energy transport as well as consequences for plasma confinement are discussed.

Non-Fickian mass transport through polymers: A viscoelastic theory

Abstract The non-Fickian mass transport behaviour observed in polymers is described based on a non linear viscoelastic constitutive equation for the diffusive flux, containing a single relaxation time. The resulting non linear hyperbolic mass transport problem is numerically solved and the influence of the diffusive Deborah number is analyzed. The proposed model has the ability to represent both Case I1 and anomalous diffusion, as well as the frequently observed overshoot and oscillations in the weight uptake around the final equilibrium value.

Control of certain transport processes

The author proposes an approximate analytic solution of the problem of bringing a system described by a hyperbolic transport equation as rapidly as possible from one given state to another. The results of an experimental verification of the solution are presented.
