1. Absolute adsorption isotherms have been obtained for n-butylamine and diethylamine vapor along with absorption from solutions in n-heptane on silica gel and aluminum oxide. 2. Either in the vapor form or from solutions in n-heptane, the amines are to a considerable extent irreversibly adsorbed on hydrated silica gel and aluminum oxide surfaces. 3. The amine molecules are more densely adsorbed from liquid solutions than from vapors, the area occupied by a molecule in the dense adsorbed layer being 20–25 A2 for adsorption from solutions, and 35–45 A2 for adsorption from vapors.
