ABSTRACT A highly maneuverable, wide straddle vehicle was found technically feasible as a prime mover for multi-purpose operations in ornamental nurseries. Hydraulic cylinders incorporated as extensible tie rods enable orthogonal steering of the vehicle. A unique steering design accommodates true Ackerman steering in one orthogonal direction and skid or hybrid steering in the other direction. A specially designed hybrid steering feature provided 12.5 times greater steering deviation in 15.2 m travel than skid steering on the 3-m wheel base straddle vehicle.
