Strategy of Energy Conservation and Emission Reduction in Residential Building Sector: A Case Study of Jiangsu Province, China

The building sector is the second-largest energy consumer in China. With the proposal to reach a carbon peak by 2030 and achieve carbon neutrality by 2060, China attaches more importance to the energy conservation and emission reduction of the residential sector. To study the connection between socioeconomic factors and residential energy consumption (REC), this paper collects the data of 13 prefecture-level cities in Jiangsu Province, China, from 2001 to 2019 to explore the REC impact factors by the STIRPAT model. The factors for modeling are identified from relevant studies and weighted by the independent weight coefficient method (IWCM). The regression result shows that the average number of persons per household, per capita housing construction area, urbanization rate, and cooling degree days have a significant positive impact on REC, while a negative correlation is found between per capita housing construction area, residential water consumption, and residential liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) consumption. Strategies of energy conservation and emission reduction in residential building sector are explored based on the demonstration of the future REC pattern evolution and the changes in its impact factors.

Urbanizational Trends and Impulses in The Housing Consruction of Ukraine

In recent decades, Ukraine has undergone large socio-political transformations, which have also been reflected in the urbanization processes. The war in the East of Ukraine caused equally important internal and external migration of the population. There was also a change of business locations from the eastern regions to the central (capital) and western (Lviv as a regional center). Economic fluctuations are causing stagnation and booms in the construction industry. With the growth of GDP, Ukrainians traditionally invest excess revenues in real estate. An analysis of the dynamics of housing construction in Ukraine has shown that the Kiev region ranks first place of the housing construction area that put into operation by 2016 (3398.8 thousand square meters), while the Lviv region ranks second with an index of 859.2 thousand sq.m. The main construction is concentrated in the cities-centers of the regions, which have a metropolitan character. There is also a rapid reactivation of the suburban segment, which is explained not only by the outcome from the recession, but also by the fact that demand in the primary housing market is still concentrated in low-cost and small-sized apartments. In the remaining regions, this indicator is much lower - in Odessa 575.9 thousand square meters and in Ivano-Frankivsk 480.8 thousand square meters, and further this indicator reaches only 10-20% relative to the leaders. In the unchanged boundaries conditions of the city, the basic concept is an “urban concentration”. For each city, the issue of new urban density is to find a balance between further concentration of the city’s development, and the preservation of unbuilt territories. The practice of building, for example, of acutely deficient in the housing market habitation during the last decade, shows rather a developer example of the intensification of the usage of territories. Today, 234 residential complexes are registered in Lviv, and there are 360 residential complexes in Kyiv with a separate allocated area, formed by a group of dwelling houses and adjoining territories, or a multi-sectional building and an adjoining site. In order to understand the magnitude of the density index, we note that for multi-apartment buildings of more than 9 floors the normative density indicator in Ukraine, which provides comfort of living and functional and communicative filling, is 142 people / ha. It should be noted that in a Vienna, which is one of the most comfortable cities for life according to the consulting organization MERCER, a similar average statistical indicator of density for 2016 is 176 people/ha. Thus, today in Ukraine one can observe the search for forms of development of a compact city, which takes place by modernizing and consolidating of the cities which are territorially outstreched and developed during the period of socialism.

A Multisource Remotely Sensed Data Oriented Method for “Ghost City” Phenomenon Identification

The rapid urbanization in China has corresponded with rapid economic development and beneficial transformations of society that have also exacerbated many sensitive urban problems. Several “ghost cities” have emerged due to the mismatch between the speed of expansion and the rationality of urban planning, especially when the extensive city construction goes far beyond the actual peoples’ demands. This paper presents a novel method for investigating “ghost city” phenomenon based on multisource remotely sensed data. Three components are included. First, coarse-to-fine built-up area extraction and multiscale integration based on nighttime light Defense Meteorological Satellite Program operational linescan system imagery, Chinese land cover/use datasets and maximum green vegetation fraction product. Second, improved “ghost city” index (IGCI) construction and discrimination of “ghost city” phenomenon comprising the rate of land urbanization, the rate of population urbanization, and the intensity of nighttime light. Third, comparison and validation of the IGCI with the traditional “ghost city” index with respect to spatio-temporal distribution and the landscape pattern of “ghost city.” The proposed method was validated using entire districts in Ordos, China. Experimental results demonstrated that the IGCI takes advantages of the spatio-temporal variations of cities and the characteristics of “ghost city” phenomenon. This is also validated by means of the per capita housing construction area and the landscape expansion index, and showed that the urban construction land grows much faster than the population of Ordos. With respect to the accuracy and distribution of spatial patterns, the obtained experimental results exhibit good consistency with results from previous statistical studies.

Analysis on the Climate Change Characteristics of Dianchi Lake Basin under the Background of Global Warming

Based on the data published by the State Statistical Bureau and the weather station data, the annual mean temperature, wind speed, humidity, light duration and precipitation of Dianchi Lake in 1990 ~ 2014 were analysed. Combined with the population The results show that the climatic changes in Dianchi Lake basin are related to the climatic change in the past 25 years, and the correlation between these factors and the main climatic factors are analysed by linear regression, Mann-Kendall test, cumulative anomaly, R/S and Morlet wavelet analysis. Population, housing construction area growth and other aspects of the correlation trends and changes in the process, revealing the population expansion and housing construction area growth on the climate of the main factors of the cycle tendency of significant impact.

The objective of this paper is to analyze the relationship between residential mobility and housing construction in metropolitan areas, coming from the hypothesis that the first one is the main factor to explain the drive for housing construction in these areas. To test such hypothesis, it has been carried out, at a municipal level, a statistical analysis of the relationships between residential mobility flows and housing construction in the metropolitan areas of Madrid and Seville. Results shows a setting in which each municipality bids up to attract increasing proportions of the residential mobility flows, with the subsequent oversized dwelling stock in these urban spaces

Grey system theory has been applied widely in the fields of industry and engineering such as property industry. In this paper, we study the influence factors on the housing price of property industry, and present an influence factor analysis method based on the grey correlation analysis. Then this method is used to analyze the multiple influence factors on property industry such as GDP, population, the total amount of real estate investment, commercial housing construction area, completed commercial housing area, commercial housing sales area and urban per capita disposable income, then we conclude that the commercial housing sales area and commercial housing construction area are two main influence factors on housing price.

Numerical Measurement and Data Processing of Air Pollution

Relational analysis method was a data process method used to sort out the correlation extent of effect factors in a system with uncertain information. Common mathematical methods were not applicable for describing the relationship. A new method, equivalent numerical relational degree (ENRD) model was developed to evaluate the effect of different factors on air pollution. The effects of different factors-the port throughput, amount of coal, industrial output, and motor vehicle ownership, investment in fixed assets, real estate development and construction of housing construction area on the quality of atmospheric environment were studied. The degrees of correlation were calculated according to ENRD and the values of the port throughput, amount of coal, industrial output, motor vehicle ownership, investment in fixed assets, real estate development and construction of housing construction area were 0.7947, 0.7943, 0.7289, 0.7238, 0.6702 and 0.6527, respectively. From these values, the relations of these factors to the quality of atmospheric environment could be described and evaluated, and the port throughput and amount of coal were relatively major.

The phenomenon of subsidence caused by the extraction of groundwater is a problem that occurs in different places around the world. Particularly in the Mexican Republic is a situation that affects several cities in at least eight states located in the central region. Given the particular nature of the subsoil that occurs in these regions affected, subsidence can generate cracks and fractures that are evident on the surface of the soil causing differential settlement affecting all types of construction causing considerable damage to the structural elements of the dwellings. The materials traditionally used for housing construction such as masonry and concrete among others, have stiffness characteristics that make them especially vulnerable to these effects. In contrast, steel is an excellent choice for use due to their structural characteristics, such as its high tensile strength, ductility, compressive good performance, high efficiency in weight — strength ratio, among other qualities. The cold formed thin-walled steel elements, are another type of very light profiles, although its use has been known for several decades, is in recent times that have extended their application, mainly in housing construction, and to a lesser scale commercial and industrial construction. The main advantage of this material is that it retains the mechanical properties of steel, but with a significant reduction in the weight of the items. The most common use of this type of profile is in the manufacture of structural frames as standard modules, the most common form it is assembly profile channel with rigid edge section and section profiles of single channel, with different dimensions and sizes. In full-scale testing and numerical simulation models, the system exhibits an excellent performance under differential displacements as those caused by subsidence, accepting considerable deformations without reaching the failure of structural elements. In the goodness of this behavior is observed thin-walled cold formed steel, first by its deformation without collapse and second for being a sustainable system that causes less harm to the environment compared to traditional buildings. Therefore exposure is considered that this system is an excellent choice for use in housing construction in areas with subsidence.

Study on the Influence Factors of Real Estate Price Based on Regression Model — The Case of Jilin City

Real estate price has been one of the hottest discussion topics, especially in recent years, it becomes the focus of attention. In this paper, we aim to study the impact of economic factors on real estate price. By multiple linear regression model and SPSS software, we analyze four economic indicators affecting the real estate price of Jilin city, and make some amendments and testings, the conclusions show the consumption level and housing construction area are important factors affecting the price trend. On this basis, we further to give the corresponding countermeasures and suggestions.

Analysis on the Structure of Forests in the Metropolitan Areas

This study analyzes the relationship between urbanization in the Tokyo metropolitan areas and the destruction of nearby forests. The factors contributing to urbanization and the destruction of forests are multi-dimensional, including the natural, economic, and social elements. A multivariate analysis was made on the structure of these factors, principal components were calculated, and the forces working to destroy forests in the respective areas were determined.In the metropolitan areas, farmland is appropriated as the first step in land use. Agricultural land lying adjacent to town areas are most readily urbanized, and flat ground can be developed easily. As a second step, following the use of farm land, forests are cut down for land use. The third step is large-scale appropriation and development of forests with a relatively low land cost, and the building of new town areas.Even with land cost rise, areas on a steep slope, forests on a steep slope or around temples and shrines are left untouched.Forests are the sole fort or defense line for preserving greenery in the metropolita areas. The avoidance of housing construction in areas with complex, irregular geographical features is aiding the conservation of forests. Purchasing forests with public funds in such areas is effective as well.It is appropriate to group forests (according to areas) and to consider measures and policies for preserving them in group units.Forests that still remain within urban areas ought to be purchased according to a specific plan, and must be secured as shelters or places for evacuation in times of disaster. Under present conditions, the Tokyo metropolitan area will become a district most vulnerable to the danger of various disasters.

Housing Construction in Areas of Mine Subsidence

Many areas in the United States are underlain by abandoned mines and many more areas will be undermined in the future. As mine cavities collapse they cause settlement and ground distortions on the surface which may damage or destroy buildings and utilities. Many of these subsidence-prone areas are presently used or will be used in the future for residential housing development. Three problems associated with the development of mine subsidence areas are addressed: Site exploration and evaluation; site development; and housing construction in mine subsidence areas. This paper is derived from a study sponsored by the Department of Housing and Urban Development.
