This article focuses on the extent to which the Stewart B. McKinney Homeless Assistance Act (P.L. 100-77) has affected homeless children and youths. The thesis of the article is that some excellent initiatives have been taken but others need to be taken to enhance educational opportunities for homeless students. The implications for school social work include advocating for housing policy, involving parents in the education of homeless children and youths, collaborating with others both within and outside the school setting, and conducting research evaluations that determine what works in providing educational opportunities to homeless students.
