Improving the sustainability and quality of kidney health care through life cycle assessments, quality improvement, education and technical innovations: the KitNewCare approach.

The European Union (EU)-funded KitNewCare consortium aims to create and manage a comprehensive EU-wide programme focusing on sustainability in Kidney Care. Around 850million people have chronic kidney disease (CKD) worldwide and by 2030, 6million will need kidney replacement therapy, mainly haemodialysis. As the world population gets older, projections for the end of the century worsen. From a sustainability perspective, healthcare systems contribute around 5-11% of total carbon emissions. Kidney care is one of the most resource-intensive specialties. In addition to energy, haemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis require transportation of patients and personnel to and from facilities, use large volumes of water and generate significant plastic waste. Overall, current dialysis is not sustainable in the medium term. Primary prevention, early diagnosis and treatment of CKD and transplantation will decrease the need for dialysis, but this will take time and will not prevent the need for dialysis in millions of persons. There is a need to improve knowledge around the environmental and financial cost of kidney care and social and health outcomes of each patient pathway including using holistic tools such as life cycle assessment. This knowledge will allow workflow optimisations, organisational transformations and technological innovations across Europe, learning from different clinical sites. KitNewCare will build a European-wide knowledge base for sustainability in kidney care, develop and introduce a novel 4-factor database for comprehensive impact analysis, implement optimised processes and organisational transformations in four European clinical sites. It will also pilot innovations from small- and medium-sized high-tech enterprises with a focus on kidney care, and establish a network for continuous monitoring, benchmarking, and implementation of sustainable solutions across healthcare sectors. This paper presents the rationale behind selecting kidney disease as a focal point, summarises the current state of knowledge, and outlines the foundational statement underlying KitNewCare's operational framework.

Performance Shortfall, Top Management Team Faultlines, and R&D Investment: Evidence from China

With the increasing uncertainty of the world economic situation, enterprises are facing the pressure of downward performance, and R&D has been an important strategic choice to solve the performance fall problem of high-tech enterprises. The article tries to explore the changes in the R&D investment intensity of enterprises under different performance lag levels and investigate the influence of the combination of characteristics of top management team(TMT) members on the strategic decision-making process. It is found that the relationship between the degree of performance disparity and R&D investment intensity is inverted U-shaped; the strength of the fracture faultline of the top management team negatively regulates the relationship between the degree of performance disparity and R&D investment and makes the inverted U-shaped curve flat. A further study of specific characteristic fracture bands revealed that team fracture bands based on tenure characteristics had a significant negative moderating effect, while professional and functional background fracture bands had a significant positive moderating effect. This study not only theoretically expands the understanding of the performance shortall and TMT disconnection on the deep-seated motivation of enterprise R&D investment, but also provides practical references for solving the problem of performance gap, optimizing the allocation of TMT human resources, and rationally promoting enterprise R&D investment to achieve transformation.

Green finance policies, resource allocation, and corporate social responsibility

This paper utilizes data from Chinese A-share listed companies from 2010 to 2019, using the Green Finance Innovation Pilot Zone as a quasi-natural experiment to deeply explore the impact of this policy on corporate social responsibility, and analyzes the effects of the policy from the perspectives of financing scale and financing costs. The findings indicate that the establishment of Green Finance Innovation Pilot Zones significantly promotes corporate social responsibility and affects the allocation of financial resources through mechanisms such as increasing financing costs and reducing financing scales. Under the strict regulation of the external green finance environment, companies' willingness and ability to undertake social responsibilities have significantly improved; this effect is particularly notable among secondary industry firms and high-tech enterprises.

The impact of team psychological safety on employee innovative performance a study with communication behavior as a mediator variable.

This study aims to delve into the impact of team psychological safety on employee innovative performance and to analyze the mediating role of communication behavior in this process. Given the central role of innovation in the sustained competitiveness of enterprises, understanding how team psychological safety promotes employee innovation through communication behavior is of significant theoretical and practical importance. The study employs a structural equation model (SEM) to analyze survey data from 580 employees across various high-tech enterprises. The results indicate that the three dimensions of team psychological safety-team collaboration and understanding, team information sharing, and team give-and-take balance-have a significant positive impact on employee innovative performance. Moreover, communication behavior plays a significant mediating role between team psychological safety and employee innovative performance. This study reveals the positive influence of team psychological safety on employee innovative performance through communication behavior, emphasizing the importance of building a positive team psychological safety environment to stimulate employee innovation potential. It provides empirical evidence for enterprise managers to optimize team communication strategies and enhance employee innovative performance.

The Impact of Free Trade Zones on Corporate Sustainability Performance: An Empirical Examination from the Dual Perspectives of Financial and Environmental Performance

As a “testing ground” for a new round of institutional innovation, China’s pilot free trade zones (FTZs) have created favorable development conditions for listed companies and significantly influenced their sustainability performance. Utilizing data from Shanghai and Shenzhen A-share listed companies from 2010 to 2022, this study uses the establishment of FTZs as a “quasi-natural experiment” and measures corporate sustainability performance by combining financial and environmental performance. A PSM-DID model is constructed to explore the impact of FTZ construction on corporate sustainability performance. The findings are as follows: (1) The establishment of FTZs significantly enhances both the financial and environmental performance of companies. (2) FTZs promote corporate sustainability performance by reducing transaction costs and improving corporate innovation levels. (3) The establishment of FTZs has a significantly positive impact on the sustainability performance of companies in highly competitive industries, non-labor-intensive industries, high-tech enterprises, and large-scale companies. This study reveals the impact and transmission mechanisms of FTZs on corporate sustainability performance, providing new empirical evidence for the future direction of corporate sustainable development in China.

Epidemic, factor misallocation and efficiency of digital enterprises: heterogeneity study of labour and capital

ABSTRACT To improve the development quality of digital economy, the factor misallocation shall be reduced effectively in the post-epidemic era. This study discussed the impact mechanism of how the labour and capital misallocation affect heterogeneously the epidemic’s effect on the efficiency of digital enterprises. The epidemic outbreak was considered a quasi-natural experiment to set a PSM-DID model and an intermediary effect model. Empirical research was carried out using the data of 1752 digital and non-digital high-tech enterprises from the fourth quarter of 2017 to the first quarter of 2022. The results show that: (1) The epidemic improved digital enterprises’ efficiency, mainly from the positive effect on technological efficiency and scale efficiency. (2) The epidemic worsened the labour misallocation but improved capital allocation. (3) Through the factor misallocation, the epidemic improved the efficiency of digital enterprises, contributing to the worsening technical progress. Through the capital misallocation, the epidemic improved the TFP of the digital enterprises but there is no significant evidence of its source. While through the labour misallocation, the epidemic improved the digital enterprises’ TFP because of its positive effect on the technological efficiency and pure efficiency.

Enterprise digital transformation, managerial myopia and cost stickiness

Using Chinese-listed enterprise data from 2010 to 2021, we study the relationships among enterprise digital transformation, managerial myopia and cost stickiness. The results show that enterprise digital transformation inhibits cost stickiness, including operating cost stickiness as well as selling, general and administrative (SG&A) cost stickiness. This result holds after various robustness and endogeneity tests. Additionally, mechanism research indicates that enterprise digital transformation inhibits cost stickiness by reducing adjustment costs (ACs) and alleviating financing constraints (SAs). However, managerial myopia negatively affects the inhibition of enterprise digital transformation on cost stickiness by increasing ACs and aggravating SAs. Furthermore, the relationship between enterprise digital transformation and cost stickiness is stronger for mature, state-owned and high-tech enterprises than for those with better digital economy policy environments.

A Enhanced Process for Examining Resumes and Organizing Candidates Through Statistical Methods

Selecting suitable applicants is an important part of the screening process in a recruitment consulting firm. In general, traditional recruiting practices are used by the majority of businesses and consulting organizations. The primary strategy is employing resume-based screening techniques to attract exceptionally skilled researchers and developers for high-tech enterprises. Typically, the organization evaluates the individual's qualifications, professional history, employment experience, motivations, specialist abilities, and past creative projects as shown in their résumé in order to select the most suited candidate. The study sought to examine and mechanize efficient screening techniques utilized by consulting firms, emphasizing the need of ongoing research in comprehending evolving customer requirements and enhancing the screening process. Various techniques typically employ automated image analysis and heuristic methods to extract tabular bioinformatics data from resumes, with the aim of gathering pertinent information. This research employs optical character recognition (OCR) as it circumvents the inherent automotive engineering of the document and has been demonstrated to be a viable approach. Resumes in PDF format were gathered via convenience sampling and systematic random sampling, and data was then extracted from the resume documents by OCR. The pertinent data is subsequently analyzed using statistical techniques such as the Chi-square test, percentage studies, and the weighted average approach based on factors such as experience, technical/non-technical skills, employability, career advancement, salary expectations, and role/designation expectations. Innovative Service Model of Science and Technology Finance in China

This investigation analyses the financial dependence of the transformation of scientific and technological achievements, the effective connection between scientific and technological resources and financial resources, the development of emerging industries, the upgrade of technological levels and the optimization of industrial structures, and the financial support required for technological innovation and R&D of high-tech enterprises as well as small and medium-sized technological enterprises. It is pointed out that the improvement of financial products, the innovation of capital markets and the application of internet finance are the operational basis of the innovation service mode of science and technology finance. Correspondingly, the upper level design at the policy level provides the basis for the development of the appropriate service model of technological and financial innovation.

Overseas Returnee Executives and Digital Transformation of Enterprises: From the Perspective of Executive Compensation Gap and Executive Overconfidence

This article selects panel data of A-share listed companies in Shanghai and Shenzhen from 2013 to 2022, uses a fixed effects model to study the relationship between overseas returnee executives and digital transformation of enterprises, and analyzes the moderating effects of executive compensation gap and executive overconfidence. The research results indicate that overseas returnee executives can significantly promote the digital transformation of enterprises; The salary gap and overconfidence of executives play a negative moderating role in the positive relationship between overseas returnees executives and digital transformation of enterprises; Heterogeneity analysis shows that overseas returnee executives have a greater impact on high-tech enterprises, low marketization areas, and enterprises in the eastern region than on non-high-tech enterprises, high marketization areas, and enterprises in the central and western regions. To better solve the problems of "not being able to transform", "unwilling to do", and "afraid to transform" in the process of enterprise digital transformation, firstly, it is necessary to effectively utilize the high-quality human resources of overseas returnee executives and provide them with reasonable care and support to better play their role; The second is to optimize the executive compensation structure and strengthen the correlation between compensation and performance; The third is to pay attention to leadership training and psychological counseling for executives, and ensure objective analysis and sufficient discussion in the decision-making process of digital transformation.

Path of Co-control of Pollution and Carbon Emissions Reduction in Typical Parks of Pharmaceutical and Health Industry in Beijing

The agglomeration of carbon emissions from the pharmaceutical and health industry has been growing gradually in Beijing. Conducting research on the path of co-control of pollution and carbon emission reduction in industrial parks is essential to realize synergy between economic development, pollution reduction, and green low-carbon. Based on the production activity data in 2020 of two typical parks of manufacturing and R&D, we selected six measures for co-control of pollution and carbon emission reduction and set up a synergistic development scenario to explore the collaborative development path of different types of parks. The results showed that： ① The primary carbon emission source in the two parks was energy consumption, such as natural gas and electricity, whereas the major pollution source was from key polluting enterprises. The emissions in the R&D park were significantly lower than those in manufacturing parks, with atmospheric pollutant emissions accounting for 25% of the manufacturing park's emissions. ② Energy structure and intensity, along with pollutant emission reduction measures, contributed 62.6% and 37.4% to pollution and carbon emission reduction for the R&D park and 81.6% and 13.5% for manufacturing park, respectively. ③ Adjusting the energy structure of the park and prioritizing the management of key polluting enterprises could achieve synergistic emission reduction, with the rate of emission reduction primarily reflecting atmospheric pollutants. Reducing energy intensity could also facilitate synergistic emission reduction, with a rapid rate of carbon emission reduction. Optimizing the industrial structure could lead to different degrees of pollution and carbon emissions increasing synergistically or not synergistically, owing to the particularity of the industrial structure of the park. ④ Applying measures to adjust the energy structure and reduce energy intensity and pollutant emissions into the collaborative path should be a priority. The governance scope of key polluting enterprises should be appropriately expanded in manufacturing parks. The synergistic effect of public environmental protection facilities of R&D parks should be focused on, in addition to reducing corporate pollutant emissions. Measures to optimize industrial structure at the park level should be adjusted to local conditions and scientifically guide industrial transformation and the settlement of high-tech enterprises.

Patent value and the performance of high-tech enterprises: a configurational analysis of start-ups and mature firms by using fsQCA

ABSTRACT The study of patent value plays a significant role in technology planning and business strategy. However, the relations between patent value indicators and the performance of high-tech enterprises have not been fully explored in the literature, especially from the perspective of configuration thinking. To fill this gap, this study examines how various patent value indicators combine to affect the performance of high-tech enterprises. After considering the strategic, technological and protective dimensions of patenting, we conduct a comparative configurational analysis of high-tech start-ups and mature firms through a fuzzy-set qualitative comparative analysis (fsQCA) method. Result shows different pathways of high-tech start-ups and mature firms to obtain competitive advantage through patents, in which strategy-oriented patents lead to start-ups’ growth, whereas protection-oriented patents contribute to mature firms’ high performance. Further, we find five solutions of patent values through which high-tech start-ups can achieve high performance, yet only one for high-tech mature firms. This finding indicates that start-ups have more choices to promote firm performance by enhancing patent value. On the basis of this approach, we shed light on high-tech enterprises’ patent strategy formulating and technology planning.

The more valuable the knowledge, the more focused the enterprises: Intellectual property pledge financing and diversification in high-tech enterprises

This paper investigates the relationship between intellectual property pledge financing (IPPF) and enterprise diversification, utilizing data from a large sample of high-tech enterprises. The results demonstrate that IPPF reduces enterprise diversification, leading enterprises to be more focused on their core business. The potential mechanism through which IPPF reduces diversification involves alleviating financing constraints and enhancing firms’ capacity for risk-taking. Heterogeneity analysis reveals that in areas with a lower degree of marketization, IPPF exhibits a more pronounced effect in reducing corporate diversification. Similarly, for firms with lower technological innovation capabilities, the reduction in diversification is more pronounced.

The role of institutional innovation and artificial intelligence in the corporate eco-innovation - a case study of high-tech enterprises in Liaoning province of China

This research investigates the intricate interplay of institutional factors and technological adoption in the context of corporate ecological innovation. Grounded in the New Institutionalism Theory and the Technology-Organization-Environment (TOE) framework, the study explores how formal and informal institutional innovations shape the behavior and capabilities of companies engaged in ecological innovation in Liaoning Province, China. Furthermore, the research examines the role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in promoting ecological innovation. The study classifies AI into three categories: data analytics and predictive AI, automation and intelligent production AI, and customer service and user experience AI. These dimensions are investigated in terms of their influence on ecological innovation, revealing how each element contributes to enhancing companies' capabilities in addressing ecological challenges. The research proposes hypotheses regarding the positive influence of these AI dimensions on ecological innovation outcomes. The findings from this research contribute to the education of the intricate dynamics between institutional innovations, technological adoption, and corporate ecological innovation. The insights garnered are crucial for policymakers, businesses, and researchers striving to cultivate sustainable practices and innovation in ’the contemporary economic and environmental milieu.

Digital transformation and corporate green total factor productivity: Based on double/debiased machine learning robustness estimation

With the rapid development of the digital economy, China's digital technology and industry continue to integrate deeply into all areas of society. Digital transformation(DT) has become an important engine and key pedestal for economic and social transformations and upgrades. This paper takes 3525 listed companies from 2013 to 2021 as a sample to measure the green total factor productivity(GTFP) of listed enterprises based on the super-efficiency slacks-based measure with the Global Malmquist-Luenberger Index (SBM-GML) and the super-efficiency epsilon-based measure with the Global Malmquist-Luenberger Index (EBM-GML). It draws on the two existing DT indicators to explore the impact and mechanism of enterprise DT on GTFP. The results show that DT can significantly enhance GTFP, and this conclusion still holds after double/debiased machine learning and other robustness tests; the heterogeneity analysis shows that DT of high-tech enterprises, manufacturing industries and low-financialisation enterprises has a more obvious effect on the enhancement of GTFP; and the four-stage mediated impact mechanism suggests that the effect of DT on GTFP can be achieved by improving internal control ability and technological innovation ability. This paper will provide relevant policy insights on how to better drive enterprise DT and green low-carbon development under the “dual-carbon” goal.

Distinction of mental health between salesman and R&D in high-tech enterprise: a fNIRS study

Employees in enterprises face numerous challenges due to the severe employment situation and job pressure. Sales personnel and research and development (R&D) personnel in companies are particularly susceptible to mental health issues due to the unique nature and complexity of their work. This study aims to explore the psychological health issues among sales personnel and R&D personnel in high-tech enterprises. Twenty-four R&D personnel (23 males and 1 female) and twenty-six sales personnel (25 males and 1 female) were recruited. The participants’ psychological health conditions were assessed using the Symptom Checklist-90 (SCL-90) and verbal fluency tasks combined with functional near-infrared spectroscopy (VFT-fNIRS), while their work stress level was evaluated using the Personal Stress Questionnaire (PSQ) and Personal Resources Questionnaire (PRQ). The results indicated significantly higher brain activities in the right dorsolateral prefrontal cortex and bilateral Broca’s areas of the R&D group compared to the sales group. The R&D group had significantly lower scores in the total score and multiple dimensions of SCL-90, such as somatization, obsession-compulsion, depression, anxiety, hostility, and paranoia. In addition, the R&D group exhibited significantly lower psychological and physical tension reactions compared to the sales group in PSQ. Based on the PRQ, the R&D group obtained significantly higher scores in self-care compared to the sales group. In conclusion, the mental health status of the R&D group is better than that of the sales group, the difference in self-care may be the most important factor leading to the difference in work stress and mental health of the two groups, VFT-fNIRS might be used to assist in detecting the mental health status of employees.

Sustainable Entrepreneurship: Interval Analysis in Risk Management and Uncertain Economies

Sustainable management in high-tech enterprises is a key aspect of successfully operating modern companies, especially under conditions of risk and uncertainty. This study reviews the field of sustainable management and interval analysis and identifies the main trends and challenges facing high-tech enterprises in the modern world. This study emphasizes the importance of applying interval analysis in making strategic decisions and developing sustainable business models that can adapt to variable environments. This paper presents empirical data, illustrating the practical application of interval analysis tools in the management in high-tech enterprises. It analyzes the effectiveness and potential of this approach to increase the levels of sustainability and competitiveness of organizations in constantly changing business environments. In general, this article is a valuable contribution to the development of sustainable management theory and practice for high-tech enterprises, enriching the existing knowledge in this area and offering new perspectives for research and practical application. Our research has been validated and is presented in the results section. The purpose of this study is to present current developments in methodologies and tools for risk measurement within the probabilistic paradigm of uncertainty, which are supposed to be used in relation to the economic evaluation of real investment projects. The methodological directions or approaches to risk measurement formed in this context are (1) based on quantile measures, within which the quantitative aspect of risk is modeled using quantile quantiles of the distribution of a random variable describing the possible (predicted) results of economic activity; (2) the Monte Carlo method, which is a tool for evaluating the indicators of economic efficiency and risk in justifying real investments, taking into account different distribution laws and mutual relations for the financial and economic parameters of the investment project, as well as its computational and instrumental elaboration.

Intelligent Development, Knowledge Breadth, and High-Tech Enterprise Innovation: The Moderating Role of Knowledge Absorptive Capacity

Innovation serves as the cornerstone for high-quality development in high-tech enterprises, with intelligent development emerging as a central aspect of innovation efforts. However, how intelligent development promotes the innovative development of high-tech enterprises is still a topic of continuous debate and exploration. By integrating enterprise innovation theory and knowledge-based theory, this paper constructs a theoretical framework to examine the influence of intelligent development on high-tech enterprise innovation. Through an analysis of 694 listed high-tech enterprises on China’s manufacturing A-share market from 2013 to 2021, we empirically investigated the effects of mediating mechanisms and moderating effects of intelligent development on high-tech enterprise innovation. The results show that intelligent development significantly boosts high-tech enterprise innovation. Knowledge breadth plays a mediating role in the relationship between intelligent development and high-tech enterprise innovation, indicating that intelligent development promotes high-tech enterprise innovation by enhancing knowledge breadth. Additionally, knowledge absorptive capacity can strengthen the impact of knowledge breadth on high-tech enterprise innovation, that is, the stronger the knowledge absorptive capacity, the greater the impact of knowledge breadth on high-tech enterprise innovation. The conclusion of this paper provides a theoretical basis and practical guidance for high-tech enterprises regarding how to better use intelligent technology for innovation. Relevant enterprises can strengthen their knowledge management and mobility strategies and fully utilize the potential of intelligent technology to achieve more innovative and competitive development.
