The purpose of this study is to analyze the effect of trust and identification with physical education teachers on empathy and personality of secondary school students. To this end, a survey was conducted on 479 secondary school students, and as a result, the following conclusions were obtained. First, in terms of gender, male students were higher than female students in the ‘intimacy’ factor of the physical education teacher trust and the ‘confidence’ factor of character. Also, in all factors of empathy, female students were higher than male students. By grade, middle school students were higher than high school students in terms of class composition and athletic ability factors among the PE teacher trust factors. Second, there was a high correlation between the physical education teacher trust and identification, and all factors of empathy and character. Third, trust in physical education teacher had a significant effect on empathy and character. In particular, among PE teacher trust, ‘fairness’ had a meaningful effect on all factors of empathy, and ‘intimacy’ had a meaningful effect on all factors of character. Therefore, in order to cultivate the empathy ability and correct character of secondary school students, it is necessary to play a role of a physical education teacher whom students can trust and admire.
